Mar 15 17:33:19 Happy to hear any opinions... Would SQUID proxy solve it? I think there are router level work arounds, but public wifi would need something on the phone/tablet Mar 15 17:33:45 5.3. LG's webOS Open Source Edition http://forum.webosose.org/ Mar 15 17:35:58 The last release announcement was in January. Mar 15 17:36:20 nizovn: How is the porting to A1 going? Mar 15 17:36:49 still need to setup environment from scratch after hdd failure Mar 15 17:37:11 Ah, right. Mar 15 17:37:27 5.4. Possible LuneOS "radar". Mar 15 17:38:05 I haven't checked the logs recently, but I don't get the impression another release is due anytime soon. Mar 15 17:39:56 I should remove the word possible from that item. Mar 15 17:40:09 6. Priority Project Selection. Mar 15 17:40:26 I see no reason to change anything. Does anyone disagree? Mar 15 17:40:54 i agree Mar 15 17:43:08 7. Any other business. Mar 15 17:44:33 i'm preparing new qtwebbrowser version with downloading support Mar 15 17:44:47 if tests went good, will release in hour Mar 15 17:45:45 Oh, a last minute surprise! Mar 15 17:45:59 :) Mar 15 17:46:40 nizovn: Shall I put Qt browser back on the agenda? Mar 15 17:47:21 not sure, i will update it only from time to time Mar 15 17:48:21 OK. I'll make a note in some way. Good to hear this new functionality is available. Mar 15 17:49:18 ok Mar 15 17:49:22 I'm still using a dumb phone! I'll have to recondition the Pre2 and hope I can revive the Pre3. Mar 15 17:49:47 That leads me to the little speech... Mar 15 17:50:12 I think from the above log, we can see that not much is happening. Once again, a month has passed and I haven't got anything done and I'm confident no one else has (Nizovn is as ever, the noble exception!). Mar 15 17:50:45 HOWEVER! There seems to be a little virus going around... Mar 15 17:51:54 I was hoping bughi1980 might be here to give us a report from Italy, but a lot of us may soon find our selves either working from home or just stuck there with not much to do. Mar 15 17:53:00 This could be a good time to suggest that everyone sorts out their machines and either develop their skill or actually work on webOS / LuneOS projects. Mar 15 17:53:29 Personally, I'm expecting to be a lot less busy very soon. Mar 15 17:53:45 good side of virus... Mar 15 17:54:28 Yes, it's nasty, but the could be an upside if everyone catche up on all thise projects that keep getting pushed down the to do list. Mar 15 17:54:35 hello Mar 15 17:54:49 sorry i'm late, but i've no real update to offer Mar 15 17:54:55 bughi1980: Hi! Are you stuck at home? ;-) Mar 15 17:55:07 yep, that I am Mar 15 17:55:18 I'm near milan, so in the center of the mess Mar 15 17:55:39 I've 6 positives in my town ( 3500 people ) and 3 victims Mar 15 17:56:10 Sorry to hear that. Mar 15 17:56:19 try to play safe, this thing kills young people too... we had a 47yo paramedic dying, and he had no health issues Mar 15 17:56:54 bughi1980: We are trying to find an upside. I was just saying we will probably all be like that soon and it might be a good chance to push things that can be done at home. Mar 15 17:57:17 Like webOS / LuneOS projects. Mar 15 17:59:01 I know a lot of IT people are remote workers anyway, but coding or learning new skills might be one way to avoid the boredom. Mar 15 18:00:10 I was going to start publicising projects on pivotCE anyway and there might be a few more offers of help now. Mar 15 18:02:06 That's all I've got. Happy to hear any suggestions. Mar 15 18:04:40 yep, all true Mar 15 18:05:00 anyway my suggestion is to self seclude sooner than later Mar 15 18:05:19 I'm playing safe since 3 weeks before the lockdown here Mar 15 18:05:44 bughi1980: OK. I've just been discussing that this afternoon. Thanks for the advice. Mar 15 18:08:03 What I will do is move on to: 8. Date of next meeting. Then we have covered everything, but I'm happy to continue chatting of anyone wants to. Mar 15 18:08:40 Sundays in April are: 5, 12, 19, 26 Mar 15 18:09:52 Shall we say the 19th? Mar 15 18:11:06 ok for me Mar 15 18:11:14 Herrie: Hello! Mar 15 18:13:29 It's the 19th if there are no objections Mar 15 18:14:29 Next meeting: 19th April 2020 1700GMT. Mar 15 18:15:05 Thanks everyone. I'll leave the channel open for a while if anyone wants to chat. Mar 15 18:15:55 are random reboots of a Pre2 more likely a hardware problem than a software problem? Mar 15 18:16:07 For late comers: The only real news is that nizovn will be releasing and update to Qt browser: downloading support. Mar 15 18:16:20 not too random probably, I think it happens while actually using it Mar 15 18:16:21 pcworld: Mar 15 18:16:41 pcworld: Hard to say with out more data. Mar 15 18:17:06 could be hardware switches, but could be a bug. Mar 15 18:17:27 Have you installed anything new lately? Mar 15 18:17:30 no Mar 15 18:17:41 this thing has been setup for 6+ years probably Mar 15 18:18:08 well will change back to the Pre3 once/if I find time and motivation to set it up again Mar 15 18:18:11 Are there any circumstances? Time since boot or operating the slider? Mar 15 18:18:15 it reboots while in use, o while sitting ? Mar 15 18:19:16 I think sometimes even when it's sitting somewhere Mar 15 18:19:44 but most of the time it happens when I use it, e.g. shortly after unlocking or so Mar 15 18:19:55 Proper shutdown or black out? Mar 15 18:20:16 immediate reboot Mar 15 18:20:26 though thinking about it I'm not sure if it's just a Luna restart Mar 15 18:20:46 Luna restart is when the logo begins flashing shortly after right? Mar 15 18:20:52 Yes. Mar 15 18:21:06 Standard kernel? Mar 15 18:21:18 I noticed more stabilty with uberkernel Mar 15 18:21:25 though the slider connection (not sure if it's just one?) may be a bit broken as well, because the speaker on the back sometimes doesn't work Mar 15 18:22:00 standard kernel it seems Mar 15 18:22:00 Wear of the ribbon cable is a known issue. Mar 15 18:22:52 I'm not sure how easy it is to find a replacement. Maybe it's a standard item, maybe not Mar 15 18:23:58 If hardware: https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Palm_Pre_2 Mar 15 18:24:32 pre2 parts should not be impossible to find Mar 15 18:24:45 but the slider issue was more pre3 related, if I remember right Mar 15 18:25:34 ok. I suppose I'll go back to the Pre 3. Only switched to the Pre2 because the Pre3 reset itself and didn't want to set up everything again Mar 15 18:27:56 and thanks for the suggestions, I'll try to pay more attention to when the reboots occur Mar 15 18:33:13 pcworld: I think the standard advice is to uninstall patches etc until the problem is resolved, but if it's been stable for 6 years, then it would seem to indicate that it is either a 'flipped bit' type problem or wear and tear on the HW. The most likely wear is in the slider and the ribbon cable wearing or becoming brittle. If it's SW, you can try to reinstall everything, though there is also the possibility that the memory issue is also HW. However, Mar 15 18:33:14 if you are having a 'normal' reboot or luna restart, then it could be a 'fizzy' input from the HW. Inspect, clean, replace any worn parts, etc... Mar 15 18:34:58 was wondering how a broken slider connection would cause reboots, but "fizzy input" seems plausible Mar 15 18:35:26 is the back speaker even connected via the slider connection? Mar 15 18:36:06 The more vague the explanation... the more likely it is true! That's science! (NOT) Mar 15 18:36:34 pcworld: I don't know how the speaker is connected. Mar 15 18:36:36 to be honest I don't know how the Pres look from the inside. I suppose the motherboard is in the front (screen) part? Mar 15 18:36:48 https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Palm+Pre+2+Motherboard+Replacement/103266 Mar 15 18:37:58 ok then I was already wrong... Mar 15 19:18:31 mmmm Mar 15 20:35:09 Signing off for now. Stay healthy everybody! Good night. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Mar 16 02:59:58 2020
