Mar 19 09:28:40 can i just extract it the files and then chroot? Mar 19 09:28:56 decompress, extract and get the files, i meant Mar 19 09:30:28 and does yocto linux include strongswan/ssh? Mar 19 09:34:17 and a whit unrelated question, how do i get the wind river version of yocto? Mar 19 09:39:55 hei.. do i need to enable networking for yocto images to get eth0 interface up? Mar 19 09:42:37 mjkr: yes, that will be an image Mar 19 09:42:59 bluelightning: good to know ;) Mar 19 09:43:15 bluelightning: but then, does include ipsec or ssh? Mar 19 09:43:21 mjkr: Wind River Linux is a commercial product, you'd have to purchase it from them if you want to get it AFAIK Mar 19 09:44:12 ok. their site's a good resource venue though to browse for latest boards Mar 19 09:44:46 mjkr: openssh and dropbear are available in the core out of the box; there is a recipe for strongswan in meta-networking Mar 19 09:45:06 a recipe, so strongswan's not included in the bsp? Mar 19 09:45:17 mjkr: to find recipes and machine support you may find this site useful: http://layers.openembedded.org/layerindex/branch/master/layers/ Mar 19 09:46:55 bluelightning: so i will have to cross-build it then? Mar 19 09:48:11 mjkr: yes, but the recipe provides the instructions to the build system enabling it to be cross-built Mar 19 09:49:32 all right. maybe later. guess i will just try debian's mips debootstrap then. Mar 19 09:49:36 thanks anyway, bluelightning Mar 19 09:49:58 ok Mar 19 09:50:04 you're welcome Mar 19 10:31:54 otavio: FYI latest patches to meta-fsl-arm-extra broke u-boot build in dizzy Mar 19 10:38:41 hello everyone Mar 19 10:39:00 please, anyone used https://github.com/Freescale/meta-fsl-ivi before ? i have some troubles bulding it Mar 19 10:57:11 hallo, I was wondering: what is the correct way to change owner of some files installed by a BitBake recipe? Mar 19 10:58:27 klaus_: chown within do_install (or do_install_append if you are relying on the default implementation of do_install provided by a class your recipe inherits) Mar 19 10:59:17 bluelightning: thanks, then do_install runs as root? I though it had unprivileged access by default Mar 19 10:59:35 klaus_: if you want to make the owner/group one that is not part of the default set of users/groups then your recipe should inherit useradd and create the user/group Mar 19 10:59:51 bluelightning: super, thanks Mar 19 11:00:12 klaus_: no, it uses pseudo to pretend to things running inside the function that it is root Mar 19 11:00:34 klaus_: http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/current/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#ref-classes-useradd Mar 19 11:01:47 bluelightning: thanks a lot! Mar 19 11:22:57 hi folks, I would like to keep my bbb up to date with some ntp sort of service Mar 19 11:23:11 does yocto already provide some ntp functionalities or should I just bring ntp in? Mar 19 11:26:05 LocutusOfBorg1: there is an ntp recipe in meta-networking; alternatively if you are using systemd it has built-in support for that Mar 19 11:26:17 yes, I'm using systemd Mar 19 11:26:23 how to check the latter? Mar 19 11:26:43 ok, then you just need to enable the appropriate configuration for systemd-timedated (IIRC) Mar 19 11:26:46 check the systemd docs Mar 19 11:27:09 timesyncd? Mar 19 11:27:43 yes that's probably it Mar 19 11:28:17 thanks! Mar 19 14:26:56 bluelightning, hi :) Mar 19 14:27:06 nighty-_: hello Mar 19 14:27:07 bluelightning, why is bitbake better than Make ? Mar 19 14:27:23 what is the advantage ? Mar 19 14:27:37 nighty-_: well, it's quite different from make... it's task-based for one Mar 19 14:28:11 nighty-_: you might find some useful background in the early part of the manual: http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/current/bitbake-user-manual/bitbake-user-manual.html Mar 19 14:29:52 ok I see Mar 19 14:30:01 it is GPL or BSD licenced ? Mar 19 14:30:32 nighty-_: predominantly GPLv2 Mar 19 14:30:55 metadata to be used with it tends to be MIT licensed though in general Mar 19 14:32:00 bluelightning, I know to little of these logfiles to understand: http://pastebin.com/hYfBdiQZ Mar 19 14:32:33 this does not look good: qemu: uncaught target signal 11 (Segmentation fault) - core dumped Mar 19 14:32:33 Segmentation fault (core dumped) Mar 19 14:32:59 ah, there's the problem Mar 19 14:33:57 some of the postinstalls demand to be run on the target architecture so we have little choice but to run them under qemu if we don't want them to run on first boot Mar 19 14:34:14 but it looks like that went pretty wrong there for some reason Mar 19 14:45:24 and can I check what this reason is? Mar 19 14:45:28 or how can I check? Mar 19 14:50:10 would it be a problem that my compiling pc is a 32bit machine and I'm compiling for a x64 target? Mar 19 14:52:50 If I would lie to find the compiler that yocto's generating at build time, where would I search ? Mar 19 14:52:57 like* Mar 19 14:54:54 don't do that. Mar 19 14:56:14 why not ? Mar 19 14:57:35 the toolchain and sysroot in tmp is not intended for use outside of bitbake tasks. if you want a standalone sdk, use yocto's sdk creation tools Mar 19 14:59:10 Hi ! I have a very dumb question, but can't find the answer... I want to fetch this URI : http://git.linaro.org/people/bernie.ogden/cortex-strings.git Mar 19 14:59:28 but if I put this in SRC_URI, it fails. git clone of the url is ok Mar 19 15:00:14 bitbake uses the url scheme to determine what bitbake fetcher to use, and hence, what underlying tool to use. an http:// url will be fetched with wget Mar 19 15:00:33 use git://git.linaro.org/people/bernie.ogden/cortex-strings.git;protocol=http instead Mar 19 15:02:22 uh, that was the protocol which was missing... thx kergoth Mar 19 15:02:33 np Mar 19 15:05:08 kergoth: the protocol= is not specified in the SRC_URI section in dev manual, so didn't thought about it : http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.7.1/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#var-SRC_URI Mar 19 15:10:12 jmleo: protocol= is specific to the git fetcher, not generic to all urls supported Mar 19 15:10:30 of course it should still be documented, no idea where Mar 19 15:25:14 wow, that is a pretty big omission :/ Mar 19 15:25:35 at least, one I was not aware of Mar 19 15:28:22 otavio: yes the error was about that 6x_bootscript-yocto.txt stuff Mar 19 15:28:46 mckoan: yes so this is the last commit Mar 19 15:29:00 mckoan: please send this to the mailing list so Ian can look at it Mar 19 15:40:21 otavio: mail sent Mar 19 15:55:32 shouldn't bitbake -c populate_sdk my-image add the natvie sdk to the generated archive ? Mar 19 15:55:55 I get qmake in the target sysroot but nothing I can run on the host Mar 19 15:57:08 populate_sdk puts the contents of the image in the sdk, along with a specific list of things. it doesn't pull from the sysroot, but from the image Mar 19 15:57:54 you can add specific nativesdk packages to TOOLCHAIN_HOST_TASK Mar 19 15:58:12 be sure to use _append if you do that from a .conf Mar 19 15:59:32 hum, ok Mar 19 15:59:57 so if I want to have a complete sdk, I have to bitbake meta-toolchain-qt5 then bitbake -c populate_sdk my-image Mar 19 16:00:17 then extract both in the same place? Mar 19 16:02:17 no, use populate_sdk or meta-toolchain*, not both Mar 19 16:23:47 in YP dizzy the resulting meta-toolchain is no longer relocatable Mar 19 16:24:11 if you install it in a dir different than /opt/poky/1.7.1 it fails Mar 19 16:24:16 doh! Mar 19 16:25:19 that's odd. not being able to move it after install i can see, but not being able to install to other paths would be bad Mar 19 16:26:59 kergoth: is possible to install wherever you want but the env-setup script fails Mar 19 16:32:57 kergoth: actually the problem is something different, installing in another dir worked Mar 19 16:33:16 huh Mar 19 16:36:38 kergoth: if I install in /opt/poky/1.7.1-cortexa9hf, the env setup doesn't work properly Mar 19 16:36:51 if I install in /opt/poky/xxx it works Mar 19 16:38:46 the PATH became /opt/poky/1.7.1-cortexa9hf-cortexa9hf/... twice ! Mar 19 16:43:36 awesome, http://www.geekwire.com/2015/seattle-women-launch-kickstarter-for-buddingstem-science-inspired-clothes-for-girls/ Mar 19 16:48:10 mckoan: I pinged Boundary Devices about the issue Mar 19 16:58:41 otavio: ;-) Mar 19 17:08:28 abelloni: there is a bug open to infer the addition of things in the host part (i.e. tools, the specific example being Qt tools) from stuff in the target part Mar 19 17:08:51 https://bugzilla.yoctoproject.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5429 Mar 19 17:08:52 Bug 5429: enhancement, Medium, Future, otavio, NEW , Add ability for SDK-from-image to pick up additional host/target tools automatically Mar 19 17:11:29 kergoth: the question being, why not making genderless clothes then Mar 19 17:18:17 abelloni: no Mar 19 17:18:29 abelloni: populatesdk gives you a complete toolset Mar 19 17:18:44 abelloni: you may need to add other stuff in the tasks though Mar 19 17:19:11 bluelightning, I made an image for some board but it is not producing extfs rootfs Mar 19 17:19:19 only rootfs.tar.gz Mar 19 17:19:28 must be some settings somewhere Mar 19 17:19:49 do you have an idea ? Mar 19 17:21:34 nighty-_: check what you are setting IMAGE_FSTYPES to, that variable controls which types of image are produced Mar 19 17:21:49 that is in local.conf Mar 19 17:21:52 ok I am going to check Mar 19 17:22:53 uhmm I do not have that defined anywhere in poky/build/conf Mar 19 17:24:12 ok, so it'll be something set through the machine or distro configs then Mar 19 17:24:32 uhmmm Mar 19 17:24:32 bitbake -e | less and then search for IMAGE_FSTYPES and you'll be able to see the full history of how it got set Mar 19 17:24:42 ok Mar 19 17:24:43 (search with / ) Mar 19 17:37:15 grrr Mar 19 17:37:25 libv4l-dev doesn't ship any headers Mar 19 17:39:46 they get shipped in v4l-utils-dev... Mar 19 17:42:59 that's probably a bug Mar 19 17:44:40 yeah, I'm fixing it Mar 19 17:45:15 does anyone know what is the following warn: "linux-yocto_3.19.bb.do_compile is tainted from a forced run" ? Mar 19 17:50:01 realBigfoot: you used -c -f (or -C) Mar 19 17:50:23 bluelightning, indeed used... is there anyway to "fix" it? Mar 19 17:50:40 realBigfoot: it means, the result of the build is not necessarily what you would have got if you just did a build from scratch Mar 19 17:50:41 i have run : bitbake linux-yocto -c menuconfig Mar 19 17:50:59 why is the repo called poky.git ? Mar 19 17:51:11 should it not be called yocto.git ? Mar 19 17:51:27 realBigfoot: assuming you want the config you've generated (I guess you would), take that config and add it back into the recipe Mar 19 17:51:35 and then -b dizzy or -b poky Mar 19 17:51:42 or did I not understand something Mar 19 17:51:50 realBigfoot: then, bitbake -c clean on the kernel recipe Mar 19 17:52:11 bluelightning, alright :) thanks Mar 19 17:52:42 nighty-_: poky is the name of the combined repository containing OE-Core, bitbake, meta-yocto, docs, etc. (and also the name of the the reference distro) Mar 19 17:58:07 it is really beginning to be tiring to explain that yocto project is an organization rather than a project Mar 19 17:59:02 abelloni: a little bird told me there will be some form of organised discussion about that at ELC this year Mar 19 17:59:18 ah :) Mar 19 17:59:18 (well, actually at YP Dev Day) Mar 19 17:59:22 oh Mar 19 17:59:49 that's too bad because I booked my flight way before YP Dev Day was announced Mar 19 18:00:00 ah, that's a shame Mar 19 18:00:26 well we can still talk about it at ELC Mar 19 18:00:51 * bluelightning gets the feeling this is going to be a busy conference Mar 19 18:02:42 * is really bummed about missing ELC this year * Mar 19 18:04:51 sdcard is an image type ? Mar 19 18:05:10 http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.7.1/mega-manual/mega-manual.html#var-IMAGE_TYPES Mar 19 18:05:17 I see only this in the doc Mar 19 18:07:09 abelloni: they are, at least that kickstarter has unisex tshirts and onesies.. Mar 19 18:16:30 nighty-_: layers can add their own through additional classes Mar 19 18:16:52 I see Mar 19 19:27:41 I'm trying to get bitbake to update the init scripts in rc*.d. I've followed the recipe that I found in numerous packages, but it doesn't seem to be working. Here's what I've got in my recipe: Mar 19 19:27:52 inherit update-rc.d Mar 19 19:27:52 INITSCRIPT_PACKAGES = "${PN}" Mar 19 19:27:52 INITSCRIPT_NAME = "vcss-base" Mar 19 19:27:52 INITSCRIPT_PARAMS = "start 92 3 4 5 . stop 20 0 1 6 ." Mar 19 19:28:21 vcss-base is getting installed in /etc/init.d on the image Mar 19 19:28:51 It's just silently failing, and I'm getting no error messages Mar 19 20:51:45 I’m trying to switch a large project we’ve been working on for years from TinyCore to yocto. I want to keep the yocto SDK that we distribute to our development team as lean as possible so that we don’t have to send out ~100MB install scripts every week, so I’d like to use a package manager to install most of the dependencies to the SDK sysroot. Yocto sets the default package output type to RPM, but the package management example in the ADT Mar 19 20:51:45 manual uses OPKG. So I switched the package output to ipk, but OPKG doesn’t allow capital letters in the package names. I’ve put together about 40 some recipes for our libraries and tools, many of which have capital letters. I tried getting the yum repo generated by bitbake to install on my workstation, but yum isn’t very cooperative when it comes to installing mulitarch packages. Mar 19 20:52:29 before I start renaming my recipes to use all lowercase, do you guys have any suggestions for getting RPMs to work? Mar 19 21:04:54 ebolton: replying to your email was on my todo list Mar 19 21:05:30 ebolton: as it happens we are looking at this kind of thing at the moment, although the mechanism we're planning to use doesn't involve the package manager Mar 19 21:06:12 having said that you should be able to use rpm together with smart (rather than yum) to install additional packages into the SDK sysroot Mar 19 21:06:33 (although it's not something we test, I'm fairly sure it has been done) Mar 19 21:09:08 how do you tell smart to install to a different root dir....there isn't really much documentation on it :) Mar 19 21:19:54 ebolton: right, there's some "magic" in there, though if you look at how it gets called when we run it as part of image generation it should hopefully make sense Mar 19 21:20:26 ok, will check out the logs...thanks Paul :) Mar 19 21:52:54 hey Mar 19 21:57:28 I'm having a really hard time with update-rc.d in one of my recipes. It's silently failing. Mar 19 23:35:10 otavio: http://errors.yoctoproject.org/Errors/Details/9457/ shows you have a kernel race in your qt bbappend still Mar 19 23:35:41 (missing dep on the right kernel piece) Mar 19 23:35:47 * rburton -> bed **** ENDING LOGGING AT Fri Mar 20 02:59:59 2015
