Aug 07 17:09:03 <rpcme> in the case anyone is about to query about my build issues, I found the problem.  for whatever reason qmake in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/bin was symlinked to /usr/bin/qmake so all I did was uninstall/install the qt4-qmake deb package and all worked fine.
