**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Mar 09 02:59:58 2012 Mar 09 03:36:19 So does anyone have any positive experience using the network port from u-boot on the beagle bone? I have tried TFTP, NFS, and ping with no success. I need to decide whether I'm just doing it wrong or whether I'm barking up the wrong tree and it's just not supported yet. Mar 09 03:37:24 maybe try the beagle google group? Mar 09 03:38:02 Yeah, that's the next step if I can't find any answers here Mar 09 03:38:17 i think the beagle uses a usb ethernet adapter right? Mar 09 03:38:23 not the bone Mar 09 03:38:31 ah Mar 09 03:38:44 The network works great in Linux (so far) Mar 09 03:38:55 you'll probably get a better response on the group Mar 09 04:54:05 hi Mar 09 04:54:26 just made a new web site at jesusradioshow.com, .ogg .mp3 sharing site Mar 09 04:54:39 yes we saw.. yesterday.. Mar 09 04:55:05 got 4 registrations from .ru Mar 09 04:55:41 awesome-o! Mar 09 04:56:33 i have my new internet now Mar 09 04:56:40 the novatel 2200 mifi Mar 09 04:56:53 my satellite is on till the 27th or until i send it back Mar 09 04:57:06 only have to send the radio eye and the modem not the dish Mar 09 04:58:07 I packed my beagle system up and took it with me to my girlfriends house Mar 09 04:58:16 we got engaged over the weekend visit lol Mar 09 05:11:52 im trying to install the omap3 sgx drivers on ubuntu 12.04, here is the output http://paste.ubuntu.com/875606/ Mar 09 05:25:42 smp4488: you try #ubuntu? Mar 09 05:25:58 mranostay: yea no luck Mar 09 05:26:10 im running apt-get upgrade atm Mar 09 09:30:27 koen: there, more toy languages hacked: https://gist.github.com/2001456 Mar 09 09:39:26 hi, is it possible to get analog output from beaglebone? Mar 09 09:39:58 can you be more specific? Mar 09 09:40:04 in the end everything is analog :) Mar 09 09:40:34 in the end was silence... Mar 09 09:40:35 even 5.0000000000V? Mar 09 09:41:40 I just wonder if all communication interface of beaglebone are digital interface Mar 09 09:41:48 output: no proper DACs, but there are PWMs Mar 09 09:42:02 what output is PWM? Mar 09 09:42:14 what I need was PWM actually Mar 09 09:42:14 pulse width modulated output Mar 09 09:42:25 from what output can I get PWM? Mar 09 09:42:36 they manual say Mar 09 09:42:37 they manual says Mar 09 09:42:42 add some R-C, and there's your analog output ;) Mar 09 09:43:39 output: there are 3: the ehrpwm pins, the eCAP pins and the PMIC pins Mar 09 09:44:42 do you know from which output can I get PWM signal? Mar 09 09:45:17 not from memory, you'd have to look that up in the manual Mar 09 09:46:43 has anyone get his beaglebone from digikey? I wonder if video cable and power unit inside the package when beaglebone is ordered from digikey.com? Mar 09 09:47:15 koen: noticed a typo in http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/building-angstrom. the repo ends with .gitt. Mar 09 09:47:15 output: it comes with a tin box and a micros sd card. nothing more. Mar 09 09:47:40 output: BTW, where would you want to plug a "video cable" into the bone? ;) Mar 09 09:47:42 what cables do you recommend me to buy with it? Mar 09 09:47:44 LetoThe2nd: and te tinbox was only for the first 5k units Mar 09 09:47:55 koen: of course there's a goto two lines above, so people should never get there Mar 09 09:47:57 output: ok, forget the tin box. Mar 09 09:48:00 koen: I have 2 empty altoid tins to sell to you Mar 09 09:48:27 ok thank you Mar 09 09:48:35 tasslehoff: thanks, fixed! Mar 09 09:48:38 what cables and units do you recommend me to buy it? Mar 09 09:48:46 with it Mar 09 09:48:57 mini-usb Mar 09 09:49:06 you can start only with that Mar 09 09:49:15 it powers and gives serial Mar 09 09:49:29 ethernet if you have something to plug it into Mar 09 09:49:50 output: a power supply 5V/2A DC, a mini usb cable, a network cable, a network switch, (network refers to 100BaseTX here), a computer running linux, having a free usb socket.... Mar 09 09:50:17 LetoThe2nd: order a nucular power plant to power the computer? Mar 09 09:51:06 output: some kind of power plant that can power your computer, network switch and bone power supply - the choice is yours. Mar 09 09:51:14 av500: thanks for the hint,. Mar 09 09:52:19 I wonder if I can plug usb wireless stick to beaglebone to it has wireless ability? Mar 09 09:52:28 will it work in this way? Mar 09 09:52:47 output: anything is possible, but don't rely on things to fall into place automagically. Mar 09 09:52:50 yes, assuming the stick is supported in linux Mar 09 09:53:39 is there any special program developing platform for beaglebone or writing a program in C would be fine? Mar 09 09:54:13 C is fine Mar 09 09:54:20 use whatever alnguage you desire, as long as it has a compiler/runtime for linux, or one for compiling for bare metal.# Mar 09 09:54:27 C is divine .. even Mar 09 09:54:34 thank you Mar 09 09:55:17 andoma: working on a client for the bone? Mar 09 09:55:37 av500: huh? Mar 09 09:55:53 that music thing Mar 09 09:56:22 yeah, but what's the 'bone'? Mar 09 09:56:29 beagle bone Mar 09 09:56:35 ah :) Mar 09 09:56:35 bing it :) Mar 09 09:56:54 does anybody know what is the product life of beaglebone? what is its expected operation year? Mar 09 09:57:26 well.. there's always my sparetime project (http://www.lonelycoder.com/showtime) which now and then runs on beagle and panda Mar 09 09:57:31 and it has spotifty integration Mar 09 09:57:38 and spotify ships libspotify for ARM Mar 09 09:57:41 so ... yeah.. it should work Mar 09 09:58:34 nice Mar 09 09:58:39 what do you use for upnp? Mar 09 10:02:54 andoma: you have hw codec support on beagle and panda? Mar 09 10:07:54 nope Mar 09 10:38:44 does anybody knows operational temperature of beagle bone? Mar 09 10:39:59 mine works fine at room temperature Mar 09 10:40:25 I am planning to use it for an outdoor application Mar 09 10:40:59 did you read the manual? Mar 09 10:41:00 I wonder if it can stands -30C Mar 09 10:41:16 I guess the board can Mar 09 10:41:49 it is not written on the manual Mar 09 10:41:52 but you have to worry about moisture and condensation and such stuff Mar 09 10:42:07 I dont think the electrons will freeze Mar 09 10:43:07 yeah, overtemperature is certainly more critical to the electronics. when coming to lower temps, the physics is way more importatn. Mar 09 10:43:54 do you know what kind of chassis is used for outdoor applications to protect the hardware? Mar 09 10:44:14 a sealed box? Mar 09 10:44:17 plastic or metal box? Mar 09 10:44:32 * LetoThe2nd once had fun with a HMI thing frosted down to -60 deg C until the ice covering it broke electronics. Mar 09 10:44:33 do you know any brand that I can search for Mar 09 10:44:58 rittal certainly has something. Mar 09 10:45:21 LetoThe2nd: you bring out the big guns Mar 09 10:45:29 sa_: buy a peli case Mar 09 10:45:56 av500: why toy with the small things when you can have fun with the big toys? ;) Mar 09 10:45:59 drill some holes for the cables and seal them afterwards Mar 09 10:46:12 or google for IP 67 Mar 09 10:46:17 or whatever level you need Mar 09 10:46:43 .. and put in a big pack or silica gel or whatever before closing it ;) Mar 09 10:46:57 thank you Mar 09 10:53:08 koen: :)))) Mar 09 10:54:11 what did I do now? Mar 09 10:54:18 koen: g+ Mar 09 10:54:40 ah, that one :) Mar 09 11:10:13 av500: are there known wifi issues with ics? I had turn it off and on a couple of times. wl127x message in http://pastie.org/3554977 might related Mar 09 11:20:22 hmmm bones flier reads : >700-MHz superscalar ARM Cortex™-A8 ... is it not able to go to 1Ghz? or am I missing something? Mar 09 11:21:12 the current build is speed binned at 720MHz Mar 09 11:21:25 is there a reason for that? Mar 09 11:21:37 you might get lucky and run it reliably at 1GHz, but it's currently out of spec Mar 09 11:21:43 aha Mar 09 11:22:12 1GHz support for the AM335x SoC is being worked on, but no firm dates or firm plans to use it in the beaglebone yet Mar 09 11:22:16 koen: but then it wont be faster than the r-pi!!!?!?!1! Mar 09 11:22:45 yes that was the next point i was going to make av500 Mar 09 11:23:07 a freind sent me a question asking for a beaglebone vs beagle xm vs pi Mar 09 11:23:33 there is an epic thread on the mailing list Mar 09 11:24:31 did they get to a point where everyone had chairs in their hands or not? Mar 09 11:24:59 in short, 700MHz arm11 != 700MHz cortex A8 Mar 09 11:25:22 because of? Mar 09 11:26:35 armv6 vs armv7, no NEON vs NEON Mar 09 11:27:44 oh!.... Mar 09 11:28:01 any links to that thread do would be worth a read Mar 09 11:29:52 nonsense Mar 09 11:30:01 only megahertzes count Mar 09 11:30:10 and megapixels Mar 09 11:30:17 a pentium4 4GHz is faster than an i7 at 3.4GHz Mar 09 11:31:49 rpi8 > * Mar 09 11:34:08 I've asked before, but is ext3 a sane choice for uSD-cards? we're seeing some spurious latencies of 3-4 seconds that we try to figure out how to get rid of. seems like (based on a vague feeling) it gets worse after the cards have been used for a while. Mar 09 11:34:21 that is the card itself Mar 09 11:34:30 I would assume Mar 09 11:35:10 tried any other filesystem? Mar 09 11:35:13 even FAT32 Mar 09 11:36:59 well, ext3 has many optimization knobs you can turn Mar 09 11:37:02 av500: we had rootfs on ext2 and /data (storage of media files and such) on fat32 > 1yr ago, but I can't remember if it was good :) Mar 09 11:37:18 ext4 even more Mar 09 11:37:34 tasslehoff: you get these latencies when you read? or write? Mar 09 11:37:41 and there are kernel options that can speed up a lot (i.e. adjusting cache pressure etc) Mar 09 11:37:56 ogra_: I dont think he is swapping to the sdcard :) Mar 09 11:38:06 I assume he writes some log data or so Mar 09 11:38:12 I have noticed problems with ext3...well all filesystems for that fact a collegue pulled out the sd card whilst the board was running..... it corrupts the filesystem..... Is this a known problem? Mar 09 11:38:43 av500: on write. Mar 09 11:38:53 I would surprised if the card was not corrupted Mar 09 11:39:03 I doubt a write to sd is atomic Mar 09 11:39:16 the card could still hold the data in some buffer before really writing to NAND Mar 09 11:39:16 but ext3 and ext4 should recover fine if you didnt disable the journal at least Mar 09 11:39:27 ogra_: even journal might not help Mar 09 11:39:37 how do you make sure the card has flushed the data to nand? Mar 09 11:39:43 i havent seen a totally broken FS in years Mar 09 11:39:52 you have no controll over what the flash controller does Mar 09 11:40:12 and there are industrial sd card that actually garantee to finish pending writes on power loss Mar 09 11:40:22 so I guess the comsumer stuff does not Mar 09 11:40:56 you can mount with discard option (TRIM support) that should at least make the journal bits write directly if the controller supports TRIM Mar 09 11:41:10 does sd support TRIM? Mar 09 11:41:30 and again, that does not garantee flushing buffers to nand Mar 09 11:42:24 short summary from the guy really investigating this (not on irc, so I'm his frontend now): high latency peaks, up to 4s even for small (5k) writes to the file system. Mar 09 11:42:38 tasslehoff: ic Mar 09 11:42:52 I guess thats the flash controller reshuffling stuff Mar 09 11:42:54 well, eMMC does support TRIM Mar 09 11:43:03 so i would expect some SDs too Mar 09 11:44:51 av500: hence no way to fix it, other than writing the application so it can cope with it? Mar 09 11:47:27 tasslehoff: or a better card Mar 09 11:47:40 or more debug Mar 09 11:47:59 make sure its really the low level sd card write that blocks for so long Mar 09 11:49:39 in other words, earn your keep :) Mar 09 11:53:40 av500: :) Mar 09 11:57:17 we're working with the 16gb version of http://www.sandisk.com/products/mobile1-memory-products/ultra-microsdhc-memory-card Mar 09 11:59:04 wow, "ultra" Mar 09 11:59:36 thats not "hyper" though Mar 09 11:59:58 maybe we need an sd card name generator as well Mar 09 12:00:15 that prefixes with superlatives ? yeah ! Mar 09 12:00:19 just add "S2" Mar 09 12:02:51 are there better sd cards out there than the consumer ones (bought the mentioned one from a consumer webshop). are "industrial grade" cards better? Mar 09 12:03:23 ogra_: question is, will the card ever be updated to ext4.0, or is it stranded on ext2 or 3 due to manufacturer..... Mar 09 12:05:46 somebody put the r-pi into a mobile phone: http://www.mobiflip.de/simvalley-mobile-spt-800-dual-sim-outdoor-smartphone-mit-android/ Mar 09 12:06:56 lol Mar 09 12:29:30 anybody using a WDTV live? Mar 09 12:46:58 av500: I think a friend of mine does have one Mar 09 12:49:19 well, at the price I will just buy one Mar 09 12:53:28 i got one for free Mar 09 12:53:29 never used it Mar 09 12:54:08 want my shipping address? Mar 09 12:58:58 andoma: or mine? :) Mar 09 14:56:00 GrueMaster: saw your post asking for help testing beagle. Where do you post the kernel and filesystem images? Mar 09 15:02:51 cehh, cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-preinstalled Mar 09 15:03:05 and wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/OMAP Mar 09 15:03:05 hi Mar 09 15:03:36 just installed a ubuntu-11.10-r6-minimal-armel image but usb network does not seem to come up Mar 09 15:04:16 what do I have to do to get usb networking Mar 09 15:04:23 heeen, which board? Mar 09 15:04:35 it says C4 Mar 09 15:04:50 when I plug a monitor in all I get is a penguin, no text at all Mar 09 15:04:57 do you have a powered usb hub connected? to power your usb ehci... Mar 09 15:05:11 uhm Mar 09 15:05:22 I just connected the otp port to my workstation Mar 09 15:05:56 ah, so usb networking over otg.. Mar 09 15:06:22 what were you referring to? usb ethernet adaptor? Mar 09 15:06:39 anyways I don't see anything in var/log/messages Mar 09 15:07:37 that's normally what i use.. ;) anywho, it's not setup by default to work in that case out of the box.. there is a usb0 device, you'd need to set it's ip on both sides of the usb connection.. Mar 09 15:07:58 ogra_: thanks for the links Mar 09 15:08:31 but the monitor should work out of the box... care to log the serial bootup log from power on to idle and post it on pastebin.com so i can take look at it? Mar 09 15:08:38 http://pastebin.com/kVpxMuxA Mar 09 15:08:56 oh Mar 09 15:09:17 I'll have to see if I have a serial cable that works Mar 09 15:11:08 I don't have one right now Mar 09 15:13:11 okay, well hopefully the c4's using the uEnv.txt correctly.. "dmesg > log" then copy to pc and upload that to pastebin.com might help see the video issue.. Mar 09 15:17:51 but how do I get on the thing in the first place :( Mar 09 15:18:24 ah.. duh.. no caffeen moment... you previously said no serial port.. Mar 09 15:20:01 humm, so with no working monitor, no serial port to debug, and the otg ethernet not setup to connect by default in my images... Mar 09 15:21:36 rcn-ee: do you know why the omap3 sgx packages on 12.04 are missing? Im getting a missing or obsolete while trying to install them Mar 09 15:21:38 the monitor shows a penguin! that hast to be worth something Mar 09 15:21:38 sorry, that's just not a usage case i thought about when setting up when uploading my images.. Mar 09 15:22:26 heeen, it should have shown the kernel bootlog, and provided a login prompt.. so it sounds like it's not getting the correct boot parameters.. Mar 09 15:22:50 smplman, are those the ones ubuntu provides in their archive? Mar 09 15:22:56 rcn-ee: yes Mar 09 15:23:42 it also blinks in a blip-blip ... blip-blip pattern Mar 09 15:23:44 i thought rsalveti has pushed those out for the 12.04, but they maybe only omap4 bits... Mar 09 15:23:48 maybe a kernel error? Mar 09 15:24:03 blip-blip blip-blip is the heartbeat Mar 09 15:24:51 rcn-ee: i searched the package base and they are there, when i try to apt-get install it tells me missing or obsolete, referenced by another package Mar 09 15:24:58 am i missing some sources? Mar 09 15:26:42 rcn-ee: anything I can hack while writing the image? Mar 09 15:26:46 change some parameters Mar 09 15:27:55 heeen, you can edit /etc/networking/interfaces and enable the usb0... then you might be able to get in over the network to see the other issues.. But really the serial cable would be the quickest easiest to debug.. Mar 09 15:29:21 smplman, what was the base package callled.. (i've always just brought in my own sgx bits, and never used ubuntu's package) Mar 09 15:30:19 smplman, ask in #linaro, they maintain the SGX packages in the ubuntu archive ... i lbelive though that we are waiting for armhf binaires Mar 09 15:30:46 rcn-ee: libegl1-sgx-omap3 libgles1-sgx-omap3 libgles2-sgx-omap3 Mar 09 15:30:47 (since arfmel is gone in ubuntu) Mar 09 15:30:52 *armel Mar 09 15:31:00 yea buddy Mar 09 15:31:30 smplman, those might be armel only still, ping rsalveti he's usually the one in charge of that package.. i know there's armhf omap4 bits, but the omap3 stuff might not be ready.. Mar 09 15:31:47 rcn-ee: gotcha, thx Mar 09 15:32:05 yeah, iirc he wanted to talk to koen at ELC about getting hf binaries ready Mar 09 15:32:15 rsalveti: i have a question about some omap3 sgx packages in ubuntu Mar 09 15:33:04 rcn-ee: when i try to run run-SGX.sh i get an error about missing /usr/bin/pvrmgr something, i cant remember for sure Mar 09 15:34:06 yeap, that's binary that loads/starts the graphics thingy.. it comes from the ti sgx package.. Mar 09 15:34:54 * ogra_ doesnt think that was ever used in any ubuntu package Mar 09 15:35:53 i think he meant: /usr/bin/pvrsrvinit Mar 09 15:36:13 yes i did, sry Mar 09 15:36:21 which is called by the init script, on bootup.. Mar 09 15:36:30 yes, same error on boot Mar 09 15:37:13 as a workaround, you could use the multi-arch feature and install a whole bunch of armel libs's. .;) Mar 09 15:37:46 would sgx run very well under those circumstances? Mar 09 15:38:38 it should run exactly like it did in oneiric... (i'm not really expecting an increase in speed from sgx, just from the armel->armhf transistion)... Mar 09 15:42:47 wishful thinking Mar 09 15:43:41 it's always wishful with the blobs.. now if they were open. ;) Mar 09 15:47:19 * mranostay yawns Mar 09 15:53:52 * smplman understands Mar 09 15:55:33 for beagle XM ... uboot does not recognize ip=xxx.xxx.xxx ? Mar 09 15:56:09 in uEnv.txt ofcourse... Mar 09 16:00:00 people still use sourceforge? wow Mar 09 16:17:16 with the beaglesXM default image on sdcard for uboot how do you set network info? Mar 09 16:20:21 koen: yea right, lets do some "image enhancement" Mar 09 16:37:44 Trying to get UART1 running on the Beagleboard-xM (rev C). UART1 pins are on expansion connector P9 which is the 2x14 header. I have gotten the TXD RXD and CTS signals of UART1 to all work correctly, but the RTS signal will not function at all. RTS is an output and should be either at 0V or 1.8V. The docs say UART1 RTS appears on P9 pin 10, and it is mux mode 0. I am building the 3.1.4 RCN-EE kernel from source, so I hav Mar 09 16:37:44 e added the appropriate OMAP3_MUX macro calls to the "omap_board_mux board_mux" array, so that the muxing of the processor pins is set. UART1 RTS is mux mode 0 anyways so it should just work by default. I have spent a fair amount of time on this and my conclusion is there is a bug in the kernel driver for the UART RTS handling code, or the documentation on the Beagleboard xM is inaccurate and RTS is not really on P9 pin 10 Mar 09 16:37:44 (mux mode 0). Can anyone assist, or point me to the right place to get assistance with this? You can also email me at epj -at- newpointtech (dot) com. Thank you. Mar 09 16:43:59 deltamind106, i'd really ping the beagleboard group list, with that.. It'll get more eye's on the question.. sorry, i can't answer it directly, i also need to really look more into using the pinmux stuff.. Mar 09 16:54:22 mdp: Any luck testing the beaglexm with ubuntu precise? Mar 09 16:56:52 GrueMaster: do you know why the sgx packages are giving me an error, missing or obsolete when trying to install Mar 09 16:57:29 Not a clue. I'll try it here. Is this with precise armhf? Mar 09 16:57:34 yes Mar 09 16:57:57 it says its referenced by another packed but it cant seem to find a source for it Mar 09 16:58:06 Ok, give me a few (need to reflash an SD and start). Mar 09 16:58:22 GrueMaster: no rush, im not around my hw atm Mar 09 16:58:42 i did try to boot the daily image in qemu and it faild Mar 09 17:06:03 Thanks rcn-ee, I've done just that. I am using Ubuntu Lucid and have not tried precise. Mar 09 17:06:57 ok well this might sound something easy but ipaddr= or ip= dont seem to work with uEnv.txt it doesnt seem to retain that ip address? Mar 09 17:07:21 smplman: Hmm. I would guess that it isn't ported to armhf yet. And I don't think you can easily intermix those armel drivers with armhf systems. Mar 09 17:07:43 GrueMaster: yea thats what rcn-ee was saying Mar 09 17:07:47 deltamind106, the os really shouldn't matter for that, it's probally either something else is already using that pin/etc. Mar 09 17:08:07 i might try the multi-arch stuff Mar 09 17:10:11 we'll probably not have a new armhf build from ti in time for omap3 Mar 09 17:10:41 smplman: I pinged rsalvetti in #linaro, and he plans on looking into it real soon. So hopefully we'll have armhf sgx support before Beta 2. Mar 09 17:10:58 Oh, you're here. :P Mar 09 17:11:36 setting this information say in " Profile" using ifconfig usb0 ip doesnt work either.... it resets it automatically... Mar 09 17:12:03 GrueMaster: rcn-ee: smplman: something to try: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/beagleboard/TKRhGE6VoMU Mar 09 17:12:38 that would probably be the easier way for now Mar 09 17:12:46 not done properly, but already something Mar 09 17:12:49 i hate allegro so much Mar 09 17:13:02 now for a real armhf driver, we'd need to wait feedback from TI Mar 09 17:13:08 rsalveti: thanks, will work on it Mar 09 17:13:13 and koen was the one looking at that Mar 09 17:13:20 but don't know if he's in touch with that anymore Mar 09 17:13:28 the forms seem pretty active Mar 09 17:13:45 forums* Mar 09 17:22:28 I'm still waiting for membership approval. sigh. Mar 09 17:23:57 GrueMaster, for the beagleboard group? Mar 09 17:24:06 yes. Mar 09 17:24:34 https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/beagleboard Mar 09 17:26:02 GrueMaster, i know it gets a lot of spam, so jkridner and the other guys usualy have a big backlog every day.. As long as your a register it should go thru.. Mar 09 17:27:02 Yea, I'm waiting patiently. I have a post that is pending as well, a call for testers. Mar 09 17:27:54 zsync is running here.. ;) just a really slow connection.. Mar 09 17:30:29 koen: i've been making some validation microsd cards for the rest of the teams Mar 09 17:30:42 koen: i purchased a bunch of 2gb microsd cards Mar 09 17:31:23 koen: so someone comes to me to get a validation image, they hand me a 8gb mircosd card, then i give them a 2gb microsd with the validation image Mar 09 17:31:33 koen: so now i have all 8gb cards...... Mar 09 17:31:47 koen: cost of 2's left with 8's Mar 09 17:32:14 profit! that's nice business venture. .;) Mar 09 17:32:46 2G cards are useless for ubuntu anyways. 8G are better. :D Mar 09 17:32:55 prpplague == ferengi? Mar 09 17:33:21 prpplague: what the prp mean in your nick? Mar 09 17:37:09 smplman: http://elinux.org/User:Prpplague Mar 09 17:38:00 prpplague: ahh, there is an area of town where i live called prp, thought you might be around Mar 09 17:38:36 hrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Mar 09 17:43:04 LetoThe2nd: i do have big ears Mar 09 17:44:47 oO( do ferengi speak with texan accent? ) Mar 09 17:45:14 Texan, Ferengi. How can you tell the difference? Mar 09 17:45:52 GrueMaster: yes, I discovered that all of my uSD cards are 2GB :( Mar 09 17:46:07 oops. Mar 09 17:46:11 except for the one in use in my handset/tablet Mar 09 17:46:38 Ask prpplague for an 8G. I hear he has a good supply coming in now. :P Mar 09 17:47:06 have to order my own…he and I are too far away :) Mar 09 17:47:14 but I like his scheme Mar 09 17:48:06 Actually, for this test, a 2G should be enough. YOu should know if networking and audio works without even going through the full oem-config routine. Mar 09 17:48:38 but better teeth (or at least a better dentist) Mar 09 17:48:49 The network link is visual. On mine, I don't have link leds lit up on the ethernet port. Mar 09 17:49:41 For audio, you can click on the speaker icon on the top panel, and see what output hardware it is using (mine shows as dummy output). Mar 09 17:52:07 GrueMaster: your image is larger than these 2GB parts Mar 09 17:52:37 *ahem* 1967MB Mar 09 17:53:05 Oh. heh. Never noticed, but then all my SD cards are 4G or bigger. Mar 09 17:53:21 * GrueMaster feels sheepish. Mar 09 17:54:43 You could try the http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily-preinstalled/current/ubuntu-12.04-beta1-preinstalled-server-armhf+omap.img.gz image. It is 1.6G uncompressed. Mar 09 17:55:03 That will at least test networking. Mar 09 17:56:48 Or, just boot our netboot image from http://ports/ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/precise/main/installer-armhf/current/images/omap/netboot/boot.img-serial.gz Mar 09 17:57:32 To me, network support is critical. Audio is a high priority, but not entirely necessary. Mar 09 18:02:12 GrueMaster: ok, fetching Mar 09 18:02:34 at least I have an excuse for some larger uSD cards now Mar 09 18:02:37 demand driven! Mar 09 18:06:35 GrueMaster: I have piles and piles of 1/2GB full size SDs..at least my expensive EVMs use those Mar 09 18:06:56 I'm thinking about making a decorative tree with the rest Mar 09 18:13:50 heh. I use a few small ones mainly for netboot and when root is on either USB or the network. Mar 09 18:16:00 2GB is enormous for the typical console only angstrom rootfs I use for testing kernel stuff Mar 09 18:16:08 Texan, Ferengi. How can you tell the difference? Mar 09 18:16:11 GrueMaster: good point Mar 09 18:16:23 Heh. "where does XYZ (relative i haven't seen in years) own property at?" :) Mar 09 23:31:50 mranostay: your bank must be using the powers of google ;) Mar 09 23:32:30 mranostay, property ownership is public record... Mar 09 23:32:37 djlewis: i agree, don't like it much either but other than being online, it's pretty damn good. and real easy to get started with Mar 09 23:33:11 I usually use pwgen to answer security questions Mar 09 23:33:15 nemik: even the stm32 Discovery at $11 is a good start and you can use linux or windoze Mar 09 23:33:25 what is your favorite food: ahDahj4A Mar 09 23:33:55 Russ: yeah, sure, i'm gonna remember those after a slept since then moment. Mar 09 23:34:04 djlewis, but them in your password store Mar 09 23:34:15 under my keyboard ? Mar 09 23:34:50 just kidding, but i have found so many written right on peoples keyboards Mar 09 23:35:20 lemein! Mar 09 23:35:51 if I'm lazy and it lets me make a security question, sometimes I'll do, 'what is your password?' Mar 09 23:38:24 Russ: yes i usually do 'Good luck guessing' Mar 09 23:38:33 well, i'm gonna head to my home on the mountain :) Mar 09 23:42:57 bah getting OTG going when i based my board file on board-omap3evm wasn't exactly trivial Mar 09 23:43:06 now im only stuck in b_idle when in HOST mode Mar 09 23:44:17 and aparently doing an echo "" into that musb driver doesnt do jack shit in 2.6.34 Mar 09 23:46:05 i guess b_idle > a_idle xD Mar 09 23:47:35 that is awesome! NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_LED Mar 09 23:47:41 blinken lights for all! Mar 09 23:50:46 simple question on usb otg.. should the device be defined as OTG or HOST in the board file. (if you want it to be a host) Mar 09 23:51:05 lets asume we are on a beagle.. roughly the same arch anyways Mar 09 23:51:13 whatever is consistant with the hardware. Mar 09 23:51:43 ds2: was that to me ? Mar 09 23:54:09 i speak to the ethernet Mar 09 23:54:15 hehe Mar 09 23:54:34 well fact of the matter is that otg on beagle can operate in 3 states Mar 09 23:54:44 gadget otg and host Mar 09 23:55:14 (independant of hw iirc) Mar 09 23:55:19 no Mar 09 23:55:37 well what you connect externally on the otg desides that Mar 09 23:55:55 no always Mar 09 23:55:57 not Mar 09 23:56:23 ds2: you can solder pin5 to gnd and that should give you host mode right ? Mar 09 23:56:35 err ping 4-5 together.. Mar 09 23:56:46 possibly Mar 09 23:56:58 but soldering is a _HW_ issue Mar 09 23:59:04 anyhow lets asume i have the musb driver (from 2.6.34) and my vbus is a nc (controlled in a separate gpio that supplies 5V) and my id is grounded Mar 10 00:00:07 the home made vbus also has a irq trigger sensor on "drain" Mar 10 00:00:44 based on that i think i can operate in host mode.. Mar 10 00:10:00 ds2: what about solving the sw issues.. Mar 10 00:10:11 like how to actually change mode.. Mar 10 00:10:15 what triggers it Mar 10 00:10:22 is it ID only ? Mar 10 00:13:21 ds2: someone in the channel told me to ask you about connecting this lcd to beagleboard and that you may have done something similar? http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8335 Mar 10 00:16:43 funkster: hehe... yes, I have that LCD working Mar 10 00:16:49 and no, I would not do it again :D Mar 10 00:17:05 oh you made a board, basically? Mar 10 00:17:06 got a much better display, same size but better Mar 10 00:17:17 ds2: i think from the looks of things in the driver configuring with OTG on and then asuming the id takes care of things.. but do you actually need the vbus wakeup ? Mar 10 00:17:22 oh - ok what can you suggest I look into then ds2 Mar 10 00:17:32 yeah... I got a generations of boards that can support it...it'll be dropped soon Mar 10 00:17:47 funkster: Ob disclosure - I sell LCD boards for the Beagle and compatibles. Mar 10 00:17:59 unsolo: which beagle is this again? Mar 10 00:18:08 oh okay, when will i be able to purchase from you? Mar 10 00:18:16 ds2: well on the xm Mar 10 00:18:39 unsolol: hmmmm for host, no. for device, yes. Mar 10 00:18:53 but the driver is buggy... you need to find the fix dejour Mar 10 00:19:16 funkster: it has been purchaseable for over 2 years! Mar 10 00:19:22 ds2: so there is a "host" fix for 2.6.34.. Mar 10 00:19:24 or are you telling me my website is broken? :D Mar 10 00:19:24 ohh send me a link plss =D Mar 10 00:19:40 funkster: http://www.hy-research.com/, goto the estore Mar 10 00:20:00 I sell a 4.3" display that is physically about the same size as the spark fun Mar 10 00:20:27 funkster: it is by default configured for the Beagle classic. If you needed it for another board, please send a mail to the contact address Mar 10 00:21:21 unsolo: there are all sorts of fixes Mar 10 00:21:50 for the xM, you can also implement proper phy support and have host forcing in SW Mar 10 00:22:28 hmm Mar 10 00:22:59 think i will stick to just making it work right now. Mar 10 00:23:37 from what i read on the subject usb stop change mode usb start does the trick i belive.. Mar 10 00:24:31 and the mode change code exists it's just that the functions don't Mar 10 00:27:03 ds2; oh touchscreen as well huh - i think i like that! - so the pre beagleboard XM can plug the sparkfun lc right in? Mar 10 00:30:38 ds2: i noticed on the beagleboard-xm that the vbus on the tps65950 is connected to a pullup .. guess our grounded vbus may cause some unforseen issues Mar 10 00:31:47 funkster: what do you mean? Mar 10 00:31:57 thanks for the info ill "study" some more and hopefully we can strap uo the board so i can get it working as a host. Mar 10 00:32:37 " funkster: it is by default configured for the Beagle classic." i misread that, sorry Mar 10 00:32:57 'k Mar 10 00:33:04 those boards include the screen Mar 10 00:33:09 no sparkfun stuff Mar 10 00:33:37 awesome! Mar 10 00:33:51 funkster: are you doing a one off or a prduct? Mar 10 00:33:53 product Mar 10 00:34:26 ds2: well it will start off as about 4-5 to test, if all good i will need a ton. Mar 10 00:35:22 funkster: customizing is an option Mar 10 00:35:23 so id ike to go th route where i can easily order more parts without a lot of manual work/soldering/etc Mar 10 00:35:52 the hw just works Mar 10 00:39:24 i need to figure out power consumption as well, i may build the device mobile, but im still up in the are about that Mar 10 00:48:25 mru: yeah my friend said his r-pi expected "Ship Date" is 4/3 Mar 10 00:49:17 i ordered mine today, they told me july'ish =\ Mar 10 00:50:11 think ill get a http://www.fxitech.com/products/ instead of a r-pi Mar 10 00:51:53 unsolo: when does that get released? Mar 10 00:52:15 funkster: it was my understanding they have opened for orders. Mar 10 00:52:52 at least thats what i read in norwegian newspapers Mar 10 00:53:15 pre order $199 Mar 10 00:53:41 i seeeee - niiice Mar 10 00:53:55 norway huh... did you see the show lillyhammer? Mar 10 00:54:28 gonna se the rest soon i think Mar 10 00:54:33 it has its issues but overall was pretty entertaining Mar 10 00:55:10 jay6981: there's been a few good norwegian movies too lately.. HeadHunter TrollHunter to mention a few Mar 10 00:55:26 oh, i saw trollhunter is available here too. i will check it out Mar 10 00:55:28 but imho its mostly crap. Mar 10 00:57:48 the two above are not crappy at all tho. Mar 10 00:58:14 at least they arent "sequals" Mar 10 01:38:25 d Mar 10 01:38:35 e Mar 10 01:38:40 f Mar 10 01:38:43 * SilicaGel12 slaps jay6981 about a bit with a large trout Mar 10 01:40:33 it's beer thirty Mar 10 01:41:02 bbiab Mar 10 01:41:03 it's birdy bedtime here Mar 10 01:43:28 was it the trout? Mar 10 01:46:39 ds2: both times i have had it, it seemed a little chewy Mar 10 01:46:47 ds2: much prefer long horn Mar 10 01:46:51 ds2: aged Mar 10 01:46:55 ds2: for about 30 days Mar 10 01:47:03 hmmm never had steak that has been aged Mar 10 01:47:26 ds2: medium well done, severed by a hot blonde in a bikini Mar 10 01:47:38 (beer is assumed) Mar 10 01:47:41 mmmmmm Mar 10 01:48:38 honestly it was too lean, the moose Mar 10 01:48:54 i should have gone with my original plan, and also gotten some squirrel. I was going to make a rocky and bullwinkle sandwich. Mar 10 01:49:36 SilicaGel12: generally if you are going to fix some really lean stuff, just mix in a little fatback Mar 10 01:49:46 yeah Mar 10 01:49:51 I should have known.
