**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Jun 05 02:59:58 2012 Jun 05 03:13:17 Hmmmm Jun 05 04:04:10 I need some help thinking up a good name for my beaglebone projects page. Jun 05 04:04:11 lol Jun 05 04:52:12 Anyone still awake? Jun 05 04:55:36 yo Jun 05 05:01:23 hello stateful Jun 05 05:01:33 Howdy Jun 05 05:05:04 no i'm sleeping Jun 05 05:13:03 lol mranostay Jun 05 05:13:26 I'm excited. I finally got around to setting up a blog to document all my little projects that I do. Jun 05 05:13:50 Need a better tagline though. Jun 05 05:14:03 KeatonT: blog runs on a beagle I hope :P Jun 05 05:14:12 fiola I thought about it. Jun 05 05:14:19 but I figured it needed a little more power Jun 05 05:14:22 :P Jun 05 05:14:26 geekweekly.net Jun 05 05:15:25 It's even all SSL'y Jun 05 05:15:26 You'd better set up a weekly cron job to post something. That tagline will be a slave master :P Jun 05 05:15:56 I registered the domain long ago. Jun 05 05:16:05 I'm always doing something. Jun 05 05:16:13 So I don't think it will be hard to have something to write about. Jun 05 05:16:17 I'll just need to make myself do it. Jun 05 05:18:41 Quite tempting to make a website out of clustered beaglebones. Need more power, just slot in another. Jun 05 05:19:39 yea that would be kinda cool. Jun 05 05:20:05 I just realized that I'm never going to get rid of all those youtube videos I made 3 years ago Jun 05 05:20:49 They're permanently fixed to the internet. Jun 05 06:43:10 Hello! Are these packages right to try lxde on BeagleBoard B4 - apt-get install lxdm lxde lxlauncher lubuntu-desktop - ? I know the board is ancient, but would like to try Jun 05 06:43:49 (Ubuntu installation) Jun 05 06:44:22 orated: lubuntu-desktop should suffice for giving you the lubuntu-flavoured lxde desktop. Jun 05 06:44:43 if you want the pure blend, the package lxde should be enough. Jun 05 06:45:12 No, I would like to try minimum version since the B4 got only 128MB RAM Jun 05 06:45:28 orated: thats not related in any way to the age of the board, only to the ubuntu release in use. Jun 05 06:46:11 orated: shuold be lxde then. see http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/lxde for more information on what it brings. Jun 05 06:46:53 Thanks, I'll try Jun 05 06:55:38 ehci is still broken in 3.4.1 Jun 05 06:57:03 3.7 from av500 might have been a good aproximation Jun 05 06:58:05 I said 3.6, but might need to revise that Jun 05 06:58:52 av500: so you're a revisor? Jun 05 06:59:01 someone have a problem to build libgles-omap3-4.05.00.03-r31? Jun 05 07:04:47 3.6 should be around christmas/omap5, could be ;) Jun 05 07:07:38 at least 3.2 got longterm support from debian/ubuntu Jun 05 07:08:59 so if the ti-devs don't start to Cc: stable@ 3.2 is safe ;) Jun 05 07:16:34 hmm, lenovo gone omap4 Jun 05 07:38:29 ERROR: Function failed: omap3-sgx-modules: LIC_FILES_CHKSUM points to an Jun 05 07:38:29 > invalid file Jun 05 07:38:36 any idea? Jun 05 07:40:13 maybe i just search Jun 05 07:41:15 I assumed you have searched already before you asked here Jun 05 07:42:21 i see Jun 05 08:04:07 Hi beagle pros. I'm trying to connect to Cloud9 via Ethernet using the address http://10.12.5.19:3000 (root to BB + ifconfig gave me the address), but there is nothing there. Also port 80 just shows a green directory listing.. Any ideas? Jun 05 08:10:45 Hi, a bit of a newbie question. Is it possible to boot a linux 3+ kernel on a craneboard without providing a device tree? (Im trying without it but it misses a lot of peripherals.) Jun 05 08:11:44 sure Jun 05 08:11:55 if you have a board config for the crane Jun 05 08:15:44 av500, i took the one from https://github.com/craneboard/craneboard-kernel and made an oldconfig but it misses out on a lot of stuff. Ethernet, i2c etc. But then it might just that i have to go over the config once more. Jun 05 08:16:05 Is there any more up2date sources for craneboard than the once at github? Jun 05 08:16:48 no idea Jun 05 08:17:01 nobody here uses a crane Jun 05 08:17:12 Ok :) Jun 05 08:17:22 and guess why we don't use them Jun 05 08:17:36 bad support? Jun 05 08:17:38 it's named after a bird Jun 05 08:17:52 oh, i occasionally use a crane, but one that doesn't come in pcb format. Jun 05 08:20:14 not sure what to do with my beagleboard xm :/ Jun 05 08:20:18 it's such a nice thin Jun 05 08:20:21 thing* Jun 05 08:20:27 i want to do something with it :D Jun 05 08:20:36 burn it. *suggestion* Jun 05 08:20:47 -.- Jun 05 08:21:30 hug it Jun 05 08:21:41 dress it up and walk it around the block Jun 05 08:24:33 did friday come early this week? Jun 05 08:24:59 yeah, for me it's' tomorrow Jun 05 08:25:15 mru: you know, the amount of fridays per week varies heavily in #beagle. Jun 05 08:25:39 but it's always at least one? Jun 05 08:26:00 i think so, but i lack proof. Jun 05 08:26:29 confirmed reports vary in the range [1:9] :-) Jun 05 08:29:05 mru: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Week#Nine-day Jun 05 08:29:30 though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pawukon sounds super funny, too. Jun 05 08:37:13 Hi Guys, i try to compile angstrom for beagleboard. I haev built the console-image.tgz and extracted on the second partition of the sdcard. The beagleboard xM hangs however at "Uncompressing Linux done, booting the kernel." With the original rootfs I can boot propery. Any pointers? Jun 05 11:13:24 and I can't find a way to manually trigger the DHCP request on connmand Jun 05 11:13:34 (servicectl restart connmand does not work...) I followed the instruction here that you gave before http://ladyada.net/products/beaglebone/wifi.html and used some other instructions, but bone does not connect to the access point. I wonder if you can suggest any document, instruction or something else Jun 05 13:12:13 I am using 3.2.18 angstroms dist. Jun 05 13:13:34 start with a better description of your problem, e.g. what iw dev scan says Jun 05 13:16:03 iw dev scan > http://paste.ubuntu.com/1024996/ Jun 05 13:16:46 iwconfig, lsusb, connman/settings & wifi.config >> http://paste.ubuntu.com/1025000/ Jun 05 13:16:49 try adding wlan0 or whatever your device is named Jun 05 13:17:30 see line 32 Jun 05 13:19:02 iw wlan0 scan >> http://paste.ubuntu.com/1025003/ Jun 05 13:20:01 and is your ap shown? If I setup spi_board_info in the kernel and specify a driver that doesn't exist and then insmod the driver as a module will it work? Or do I have to include the driver in the kernel? Jun 05 14:21:26 recompiling every time I make a change is getting old Jun 05 14:22:50 you can give make arguments, e.g. make path/to/foo.ko Jun 05 14:25:59 those ng-level-shifters (with firmware) must be an intriguing idea for managers ;) Jun 05 14:28:01 so if I compile the driver as a module, when I make changes I can just replace the .ko? Jun 05 14:29:53 depends on the changes. Jun 05 14:31:59 awesome, thanks a lot Jun 05 14:47:48 Hello! What is "display 0" in "Server is already active for display 0". Jun 05 15:19:48 +10 Jun 05 15:20:16 emeb: a new trend is to use old pages and just update them with "this information is obsolete" in a small font Jun 05 15:20:25 lol Jun 05 15:21:49 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCbfMkh940Q Jun 05 15:23:06 emeb: sure, but keep a copy Jun 05 16:10:07 Hello! Jun 05 16:49:59 question: (not that im intending to do this, it was a question I was asked) if I wanted to build a BB with 16 ethernet ports, what would be the best way to supply that much power? my idea would be to have a power supply larger than 5V (say 9V) that supplies the BB as well as the extra ethernet hardware... any opinions? Jun 05 16:50:39 though, im thinking something more along the lines of 15V would be required Jun 05 16:53:33 quick question: I downloaded one of the angstrom image files in the angstrom beaglebaord demo folder ( the one with cloud 9) for my beagle board... and actually managed to image an sd card correctly so it boots Jun 05 16:53:44 it even ran cloud9 Jun 05 16:53:46 :) Jun 05 16:54:10 just not sure how to translate cloud9 for beagle board... it seems to be aimed at beagle bone... Jun 05 18:28:22 * ogra_ though that wouldnt happen Jun 05 18:28:24 jkridner__: see, wikis are bad Jun 05 18:28:36 jkridner__: or did wmat send the pizza thru the intertubes? Jun 05 18:28:48 jkridner__, edit on your mba, that should be reliable Jun 05 18:28:50 seems like Jun 05 18:29:02 I was editing from my mac pro. Jun 05 18:29:15 time for a new one then Jun 05 18:30:05 part of some evil anti-pru conspiracy. Jun 05 18:31:16 got a virus in that mac even though they tell you it cant happen ;) Jun 05 18:31:38 it is x86. of course it can happen. ;-) Jun 05 18:31:54 I think it's the wrong endianess that does it Jun 05 18:33:15 I need to have an ad hoc wlan with beaglebones, connman does not support ad hoc mode. Is there any documentation, instruction how to create ad hoc wlan with beaglebones? Jun 05 18:34:49 anybody know what upstream tree the pruss uio driver was submitted to? Jun 05 18:35:05 I see a GKH sign-off in the arago hosted tree... Jun 05 18:35:11 so I'm thinking it was accepted somewhere... Jun 05 18:35:16 but, I don't see it in mainline. Jun 05 18:35:21 * jkridner__ looks in linux-omap Jun 05 18:35:30 jkridner__, it was in staging for about 5 minutes Jun 05 18:35:50 and greg dumped it due to non-response from next Jun 05 18:35:52 is it not in staging anymore!?? Jun 05 18:35:57 no Jun 05 18:36:01 not for a long time Jun 05 18:36:03 no maintainer Jun 05 18:36:24 you have to have somebody actively working on something to get it out of staging to be in there Jun 05 18:36:27 that's just silly. Jun 05 18:36:30 no Jun 05 18:36:39 I mean that no one is working on it... Jun 05 18:36:40 not the rule. Jun 05 18:36:56 that was a long time ago you know Jun 05 18:37:30 that's because it was subbed out to a company that couldn't retain the developer Jun 05 18:37:35 you'd think I'd be able to at least find commit/revert pairs in the trees. Jun 05 18:38:02 on git.kernel.org searches, pruss turns up empty. Jun 05 18:38:41 you know what..it might not have even made it in due to non-response…there's a thread where gregkh just says he's not going to mother-hen any orphaned patches Jun 05 18:38:58 another TI dump and run :) Jun 05 18:39:34 :( Jun 05 18:39:51 I see it went through 10 revisions... Jun 05 18:39:58 jkridner__, https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/5/31/46 Jun 05 18:39:58 doesn't seem like a dump and run to me. Jun 05 18:41:00 sure, we have lots of stuff like that…btw, it was at v5 Jun 05 18:41:01 mdp: hey, stop cursing your employer's name! the beating will continue until morale improves! :) Jun 05 18:41:42 * mranostay pops on some KMFDM Jun 05 18:41:45 odd that http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-arm-kernel/2011-March/044758.html shows v10. ah, it is for am1808. Jun 05 18:42:34 denix, no cursing :) Jun 05 18:44:15 jkridner__, needs a complete refactor into a resource management mfd driver anyway Jun 05 18:44:25 yeah. Jun 05 18:44:39 as discussed to death before Jun 05 18:44:40 mfd uses remoteproc? Jun 05 18:45:17 not inherently, but you can combine lots of different existing tools in a driver :) Jun 05 18:45:45 pruss is simple too flexible to chain it do just being used with uio as an api in userspace Jun 05 18:46:19 remoteproc is just a tool to boot and then use the other related tools Jun 05 18:48:00 jkridner__, good to hear that somebody is picking up with the pruss effort Jun 05 18:50:39 hi jkridner Jun 05 18:51:12 hi Dhiraj Jun 05 18:51:28 hello this, someone could help me with a BeagleBoard, I configured the kernel to support angstrom LI-5M03 camera, the operating system works, but both the mouse and keyboard do not work and both are plug & play, I can do to fix this Jun 05 18:51:36 i am working in Djabbari, Ali Jun 05 18:51:44 team Jun 05 18:51:51 for the university project Jun 05 18:52:18 as we have discussed about the GPMC driver Jun 05 18:52:22 gerardo: which beagle and which usb port are you using? Jun 05 18:52:31 Dhiraj: I don't think you need to say a lot about your project, just what you are trying to do and what you think should work and what is actually happening. Jun 05 18:52:42 ok Jun 05 18:52:50 the topic of the room mentions: Please read http://beagleboard.org/chat for a guide on how to ask questions | don't ask to ask | be patient Jun 05 18:53:39 i am compiling the new version of kernel and checked for a support package for GPMC Jun 05 18:53:46 heh Jun 05 18:54:04 but i was not able to find any support patch Jun 05 18:54:55 djlewis is the beagleboard xM Jun 05 18:55:11 does the new version of kernel that is 3.2.18 support gpmc device drivers Jun 05 18:55:25 and the ports its usb Jun 05 18:56:33 * jkridner__ looks at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_PSP_User%27s_Guide to see if GPMC configuration is mentioned. Jun 05 18:57:00 in none of the four ports works Jun 05 18:58:56 OK, my python-numpy patch was submitted with all the requested changes. Once that's accepted I'll move on to submitting my new python-matplotlib recipe Jun 05 18:59:27 Dhiraj: you can look at the other examples of gpmc support in the kernel. Specifically, the nand support on the am335xevm which is in that kernel and is a valid example for one type of device configured for the gpmc on Bone. Jun 05 18:59:30 ...and if that works out OK I'll probably have an ipython recipe and maybe some more Python recipes :) Jun 05 18:59:31 Dhiraj: It may be that the only docs for using the GPMC are around accessing NAND devices, such as http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_NAND_Driver's_Guide Jun 05 19:00:08 I recommend the source code example on top of that though, it's known to work. Jun 05 19:00:22 as opposed to a wiki Jun 05 19:00:41 thank you mdp and jkridner Jun 05 19:00:46 well, that wiki page doesn't actually give any APIs for configuring the GPMC. Jun 05 19:02:24 Dhiraj: there's a couple people floating around the channel that have interfaced devices successfully on Bone via GPMC…when you get to some specific question they may chime in Jun 05 19:04:25 hello this, someone could help me with a BeagleBoard, I configured the kernel to support angstrom LI-5M03 camera, the operating system works, but both the mouse and keyboard do not work and both are plug & play, I can do to fix this Jun 05 19:04:30 * jkridner__ welcomes feedback on http://elinux.org/Ti_AM33XX_PRUSSv2 Jun 05 19:04:38 mdp: sure, thank you for the information. it seem like the http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_PSP_User%27s_Guide has information for gpmc NAND devices Jun 05 19:04:52 gerardo: this is an xM or BeagleBoard? Jun 05 19:05:18 if BeagleBoard, are you using a high-speed powered hub? Jun 05 19:05:33 jkridner__: is xM Jun 05 19:06:49 k, so it is likely you didn't enable something when building your kernel. have you compared your .config to the /proc/config.gz of an image that works? I'd download a demo image and try that with your mouse and keyboard to verify the hardware. Jun 05 19:07:13 also, I believe the LI-5M03 is supported in Angstrom demo images. Jun 05 19:07:17 mmm Jun 05 19:07:49 no , i have not Jun 05 19:08:27 Hi Jason :) how goes it? Jun 05 19:08:30 ok thanks Jun 05 19:08:40 thenks jkridner__: Jun 05 19:09:08 quick question :) is cloud9 for use with beagle bone only? or will it work with beagle board as well? Jun 05 19:10:19 waltermixxx: cloud9 will work with BeagleBoard and xM. Jun 05 19:10:52 I haven't put Bonescript on them yet, but I plan to do so. Jun 05 19:12:55 I cant attach gdb to openocd, when debugging -xM, because, while stepping, cpu jumps to 0x8010000c, instead of next instruction. Is it a known problem? Jun 05 19:12:57 Dhiraj, you won't find anything useful for your GPMC configuration in that users guide. You'll want to look at the source arch/arm/mach-omap2/gpmc* for the gpmc helper functions and then look at how that's used in the nand initialization path in board-am335xevm.c. That should give you an idea of what to add for whatever you are interfacing. However, note that there's a lot of nand-specific stuff in that path that maybe you don't care about. Jun 05 19:13:05 cool will you update your blog when you do? :) I'm reading through your blog post now :) Jun 05 19:14:03 I will, but it'll probably be Aug/Sept unless I am prodded to do it sooner. Jun 05 19:14:17 if there is something I can enable by doing it, I can be talked into working on it sooner. Jun 05 19:14:24 I just have a long list of things to work on.
