**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sat Aug 25 03:00:05 2012 Aug 25 03:37:32 hello, where can I download the latest kernel for beagleboard xm, I have the mt9t111 sensor I though the latest kernel would have support for it Aug 25 10:52:44 hello Aug 25 10:52:48 i have problem with curl Aug 25 10:52:53 i cant open any https site Aug 25 10:53:12 it throws error: curl: (77) Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?) Aug 25 11:06:11 <_av500_> try #curl Aug 25 11:11:09 so if we view the interwebs as a vector field and apply maxwell's equations... Aug 25 11:31:22 I have a cpld I want to wire up to the GPMC on a beaglebone.. I've noticed before that wiring stuff up to the a0 and pins nearby that it can stuff the beaglebone booting.. so I'll wired up a 144 pin CPLD and now the beaglebone won't boot :/ Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Aug 25 11:31:36 s/can stuff/can stop/ Aug 25 11:31:56 s/I'll wired/I've wired/ :p Aug 25 11:32:37 whatever stops it booting is what you're doing wrong :) Aug 25 11:33:07 does the rom try to boot from it? Aug 25 11:37:07 <_av500_> check the boot order Aug 25 11:37:15 <_av500_> via the sysboot pins Aug 25 11:37:27 <_av500_> its in the TRM Aug 25 11:37:44 <_av500_> of course it could be a simple shortcut Aug 25 11:41:26 mru: well, the CCCCC that comes out when the SD card isn't plugged in doesnt even happen Aug 25 11:41:50 _av500_: it doesn't seem to be a short circuit.. but I'll check the TRM Aug 25 11:42:30 I tried to wire up a transitor to a0 of the GPMC before. Pin 45 on P8 I think and that also stopped it booting Aug 25 11:52:13 Hello. Anyone ever succeded booting Angstom on the BBxM? I've been trying for couple of days buy I cant get the neither USB nor Ethernet working. Aug 25 11:52:46 I think koen managed to boot it once Aug 25 11:58:23 where are you getting your kernel? Aug 25 11:58:59 ohad: it shouldn't be this hard Aug 25 11:59:10 from here: http://www.circuitco.com/support/index.php?title=Circuitco_Support_Wiki#BEAGLEBOARD-xM_IMAGE_FILES Aug 25 12:00:03 thurbad: my card has a sticker on it beta 3-30, and this is the version I mounted like the instructions Aug 25 12:01:34 which link did you follow there? Aug 25 12:02:48 thurbad: I've mounted as instructed and used this image (http://circuitco.com/support/files/BeagleboardxM/XMC_3_30.zip). Aug 25 12:02:59 regardless... try the one at http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/ Aug 25 12:03:21 it's a much more recent kernel Aug 25 12:03:27 thurbad: Ive tried the all(really, ALL). Aug 25 12:03:38 *them Aug 25 12:04:32 *i've followed mounting the instruction in ( http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/), or as in Trey's blog, all yielded same results: GUI, but no internet and no USB. Aug 25 12:04:44 download uImage-beagleboard.bin rename it simply uImage and drop it in your boot folder Aug 25 12:05:26 ohad: you are contradicting yourself. first you claim it never boots, then you say you get UI but /some/ parts don't work Aug 25 12:05:55 cantido is the one not booting Aug 25 12:06:01 ah, sorry, misread Aug 25 12:07:08 thurbad: I've tried all thee options of uImage, and all 3 options of MLO. I've been trying to get the BB started for 3 days :) still optimistic Aug 25 12:07:38 just try as I said once more... humor me Aug 25 12:08:41 thurbad: ok...which image,MLO, and uImage combination would you like me to try? Aug 25 12:08:57 just the uImage.beagleboard.bin Aug 25 12:09:16 uImage-beagleboard.bin rather Aug 25 12:09:28 rename it uImage with no extension Aug 25 12:09:55 and place it in your boot folder on your second partition Aug 25 12:10:40 just it? with no image? and what to put in the first partition? Aug 25 12:10:43 well, it boots if I connect the power to my custom cape after the board is into uboot :/ Aug 25 12:11:00 first partition should already have MLO and uboot Aug 25 12:14:37 not sure which pins are exposed to the cape on the bone... butit sounds like either the boot order pins or the version gpio pins are getting a spurious signal Aug 25 12:17:28 ohad I presume you already have a rootfs on the second partition Aug 25 12:17:54 hurbad: yes, Done what you purposed... Aug 25 12:18:58 thurbad: still, no response from ethernet Aug 25 12:19:09 anything on usb? Aug 25 12:19:24 I've plugged a keyboard but no lights Aug 25 12:19:59 does the keyboard work though? Aug 25 12:20:51 thurbad: very good question but the answer is Yes, I've plugged it to my laptop Aug 25 12:21:13 I meant on the beagleboard :) Aug 25 12:22:15 if not, can you post a full bootlog on pastebin? Aug 25 12:24:05 also is the usb_pwr led enabled? Aug 25 12:26:26 thurbad: do you know which pins those are? (boot order and/or version?), I only have the address lines wired up so far, but thats 20 pins Aug 25 12:27:34 cantido: not offhand, I'm not even sure that they are exposed, have you checked the srm/trm? Aug 25 12:28:57 I will now,.. thing is all of the pins connected to the beaglebone are inputs, so they shouldn't be doing much to the signals that are already there :/ Aug 25 12:33:35 cantido: looks at page 74 of the srm Aug 25 12:35:21 The only things I see there are connector spec and some current ratings for the supply rails Aug 25 12:36:01 section 7.2.1 Aug 25 12:36:35 or search for boot pins Aug 25 12:38:21 7.2.1 is a block diagram of the SoC for me .. I have BeagleBone_SRM_A5_0_0 Aug 25 12:39:05 http://beagleboard.org/static/beaglebone/latest/Docs/Hardware/BONE_SRM.pdf Aug 25 12:39:33 that should be the A6 rev Aug 25 12:40:51 Well that explains things.. Aug 25 12:41:59 yeah if any of those even drain it could affect booting Aug 25 12:42:41 I guess the CPLD is doing that.. I had an SRAM wired up and that was ok, but a transitor's base wired up to a0 stopped it booting Aug 25 12:43:03 thurbad: sorry for the delay, I was away. full boot log here: http://pastebin.com/k0qwrJEK Aug 25 12:43:05 * cantido wishes I had downloaded the newer SRM earlier.. Aug 25 12:44:30 thurbad: not sure which one is the usb power led, if D14 than no Aug 25 12:44:35 ohad, that's still the 2.6.32 kernel Aug 25 12:44:45 maybe I should use one of these 3.3v relays I have kicking around to connect the power to the cpld after booting Aug 25 12:45:14 * cantido probably has too much load on the 3.3v rail too Aug 25 12:46:20 that kernel will only power usb on properly with a pre rev C xM Aug 25 12:50:55 if your uboot is that old it's probably looking on the first partition for uImage Aug 25 12:51:36 hmm, no looks like your uboot is newer Aug 25 12:52:43 or at least new enough to look in the boot folder on the second partition Aug 25 13:41:55 thurbad: so what to do...? Aug 25 14:20:15 thurbad: my bb boots up now :) thanks for the tip Aug 25 16:28:06 Hello, anyone have a good idea where to find info for communicating with beagleboard-xm over crossover ethernet (i.e. no router)? Aug 25 16:32:25 google Aug 25 16:36:11 thanks, hadn't thought of that one yet. seriously though, has anyone here attempted it? I'm just trying to figure out a way to cross compile with eclipse and GDB without dragging a router around Aug 25 17:01:41 koen, after updating yesterday task-native-sdk now fails on the configure of gcc 4.5 http://pastebin.com/bEyBUQSn, I restarted from scratch, but this still seems to be the case. Aug 25 17:03:02 Pointers to how to debug/ isolate the issue would be appreciated. Aug 25 17:15:10 spacecolonyone: fix the config.log and look for 'unsafe', that should point to the lib it's trying to link to Aug 25 17:16:30 I'm sorry, fix the config log? do you mean look for unsafe in the log file in mentions? Aug 25 17:22:16 koen: no mention of 'unsafe' in the log: http://pastebin.com/Y05kfFk0 Aug 25 19:04:06 I'm having problems enabling the Ethernet and USB on my BB, someone has any idea what can I do? Aug 25 19:08:57 did you put the uImage in the boot folder on your second partition yet? Aug 25 19:15:24 thurbad:yes, I've sent you the pastetbin Aug 25 19:15:55 the pastebin showed it was still 2.6.32 Aug 25 19:17:39 thurbad: well, I'll try again. I'll mount the beta3-30, and copy uImage-beagleboard.bin to the 2nd partition. Aug 25 19:18:04 you have to rename it uImage first Aug 25 19:19:41 thurbad: ok, one moment... Aug 25 20:03:47 thurbad: rename it to uImage or uImage.bin? Aug 25 20:04:00 just uImage Aug 25 20:19:55 thurbad: http://pastebin.com/CLJSwQHr Aug 25 20:20:36 does the usb work now? Aug 25 20:21:33 no usb or ethernet Aug 25 20:22:28 if I do ifconfig -a I can see the usb0, but ifup eth0 gives me "ifconfig: SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device" Aug 25 20:23:09 usb0 is the one you want on the xM Aug 25 20:23:42 it's on the USB hub Aug 25 20:24:18 thurbad: ok, ifup usb0 is not outputing anyerror, but no ethernet Aug 25 20:24:43 *Doest led D14 should be on? because it's not. Aug 25 20:24:47 can you pastebin your lsmod results Aug 25 20:26:02 thurbad: http://pastebin.com/CqRxGtF7 Aug 25 20:26:50 hmm, can you pastebin the results of dmesg? Aug 25 20:27:43 thurbad: http://pastebin.com/ZiqHYcCg Aug 25 20:31:50 why do you have g_ether installed? Aug 25 20:33:30 thurbad: just used one of the kernels from the angstrom demo files... Aug 25 20:39:34 what do you have plugged in to the the usb ports? Aug 25 20:40:46 thurbad: keyboard Aug 25 20:43:04 thurbad: and a mouse, both not responding Aug 25 20:43:17 does mount show / as ro ? Aug 25 20:43:42 thurbad: how can I tel? Aug 25 20:43:46 *tell? Aug 25 20:43:52 type mount Aug 25 20:44:38 rootfs on / type rootfs (rw) Aug 25 20:45:12 'k was just curious Aug 25 20:49:05 thurbad: any idea? Aug 25 20:52:26 trying to get a look at my own dmesg, but it'scluttered with ipv6messages atthe moment Aug 25 21:04:49 do you know how to modify your boot arguments? Aug 25 21:06:32 if so change the ro in you boot arguments to rw Aug 25 21:06:54 thurbad: how do I do that? Aug 25 21:08:06 or grab a newer uboot.bin from the same place you grabbed the uImage Aug 25 21:08:52 thurbad: no u-boot.bin, only .img Aug 25 21:09:52 download that Aug 25 21:10:14 rename to u-boot.bin and place on your first partition Aug 25 21:16:45 thurbad: wont load... Aug 25 21:17:57 probably need a newer MLO too then Aug 25 21:18:20 reformat your first partition on your SD Aug 25 21:18:35 place MLO on it first, then u-boot.bin Aug 25 21:32:10 thurbad: still the same, no usb, no ethernet Aug 25 21:32:58 can you pastebin the new dmesg results Aug 25 21:33:12 thurbad: i'm preaty sure this isn't the problem: I had version beta3-30 before this whole mess and I have it again now. I think it is just a plain command to get things going... Aug 25 21:34:24 thurbad: or can you see what's wrong? Aug 25 21:35:17 not sure,it looks like the smsc95xx driver isn't coming on for some reason Aug 25 21:46:26 thurbad: Sorry, I'm working with multiple SD card and I got confused. replacing the MLO file doesnt work ( system wont boot) Aug 25 21:46:57 did you reformat that partition? Aug 25 21:47:12 yes Aug 25 21:47:23 and put MLO on first? Aug 25 21:48:37 yes, I used mkCard.txt and than mounted MLO, with the beta3-30. If I'll use the Angstrom.TI-GNOME.... it will work Aug 25 21:51:10 all you should have done was formatted the first SD partition the put MLO on it then u-boot.bin Aug 25 22:05:28 I've done it again, it didnt work. I've reformatted the drive and copy the MLO from the site and only the power led was on. But if I copy the MLO, uImage and u-boot from beta3-30, it works (well loads anyway) Aug 25 22:08:47 I think that's it for me. I'll try it tomorrow to see if I can get my hands on another BB, to see maybe it is a hardware problem Aug 25 22:11:57 thurbad - I appreciate you trying to help. Thank you. If I'll find the problem I'll look for you and let you know. Aug 25 23:00:10 hey guys. I am working on a project that requires 5v DC to switch a relay. I have read the reference manual and If I am understanding correctly, there is usable 5v on pins 5-8 on the beaglebones P9 header but my testing with my multimeter only shows approximately 3.5v. I am quite possibly doing something wrong as I am a total noob. Does anyone have any suggestions on why I can't seem to find 5v on this thing? Even with AUX power connect Aug 25 23:07:02 defecta: if you check the srm I think 5-6 are 3.3v and 7-8 are 5v Aug 25 23:07:37 I am wrong Aug 25 23:07:52 yeah I'm looking at page 59. Aug 25 23:07:53 3-4 are 3.3 I guess Aug 25 23:10:41 I'm pretty sure I'm not getting my pins confused, but the readings are so close to 3.3v it has me wondering what i am doing wrong Aug 25 23:11:55 i have tested with pins 1-2 on the P9 header as ground. Aug 25 23:13:49 take makes sense, if you are mixing up the pins, the srm says 3.3 is the signal for all the pins unless otehrwise noted Aug 25 23:15:59 yeah i saw that too so tested pin 9 Aug 25 23:16:17 couldn't get 5v still Aug 25 23:20:57 on the table on page 17 on the row labelled expansion headers it mentions "Power 5v" but goes on to say "3.3v I/O on all pins". Should I not be able to get 5v off this without an additional 5v supply? Aug 25 23:32:13 to clarify, have i read the specs wrong? Is there no 5v supply on the beaglebone? Aug 26 00:53:20 Okay, so I Aug 26 00:53:32 I'm getting Buffer I/O errors on my bone and the system won't boot. Aug 26 00:54:02 I suspect some type of corruption but this is the third time this has happened and I would really like to know if a solution is available. Aug 26 00:54:39 I have a beaglebone A5. Aug 26 00:55:23 running Debian that was installed using this tutorial: http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardDebian Aug 26 01:05:25 :( Aug 26 01:59:14 I'm getting Buffer I/O errors on my bone and the system won't boot. Aug 26 01:59:19 I suspect some type of corruption but this is the third time this has happened and I would really like to know if a solution is available. Aug 26 01:59:23 Can anyone advise? Aug 26 02:00:44 Hello, Does anyone here know anything about installing X11, GNOME, and running a VNC server on the beagle bone? Aug 26 02:21:18 :( Aug 26 02:33:32 well I suppose I get an E for effort? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sun Aug 26 03:00:00 2012
