Nov 07 10:04:13 facts are overrated Nov 07 10:04:16 heh where did that meme come from? Nov 07 10:04:30 The "linux" term has become a term for describing the GNU/POSIX/X11 stuff it's weird Nov 07 10:04:31 <_av500_> exact facts? Nov 07 10:04:45 <_av500_> send me the factz please Nov 07 10:05:05 fake, the real ones say "plz" Nov 07 10:05:26 r u sure plz? Nov 07 10:05:28 but it might be interresting to have a non GNU kernel running Android Nov 07 10:05:37 <_av500_> no, pls for steps, !!! for codez Nov 07 10:05:45 keesj: nobody runs gnu kernels Nov 07 10:05:58 mranostay, in which session are you? Nov 07 10:06:01 <_av500_> anobody taking notes for this session? Nov 07 10:06:07 <_av500_> panto: v4l2 Nov 07 10:06:14 duh Nov 07 10:06:15 Linux is GNU GPL code Nov 07 10:06:16 yeah you are behind me Nov 07 10:06:33 keesj: linux is not a gnu project Nov 07 10:06:36 mranostay, i just gave him the "duh" look Nov 07 10:06:53 linux is gnuseless Nov 07 10:06:53 mru: you a right. I is still GPL Nov 07 10:07:08 so? Nov 07 10:07:22 canz i haz exact license, pls Nov 07 10:08:04 so it limits what users are allowed to do with it. Nov 07 10:08:13 no Nov 07 10:09:25 are you trolling me? Nov 07 10:09:40 never Nov 07 10:09:52 the gpl does not restrict use Nov 07 10:10:16 mru: well minus the v3 Nov 07 10:10:24 linux is gplv2 Nov 07 10:10:33 mru: yes yes Nov 07 10:10:37 if favors freedom of code over freedom of the users of that code Nov 07 10:11:06 the gpl does not limit what you can run on the linux kernel Nov 07 10:12:10 unless it's a binary blob interacting with the kernel and as long as you follow the GPL rules your a fine Nov 07 10:12:26 binary blobs are just fine Nov 07 10:12:57 they can be annoying, but that's another matter Nov 07 10:13:01 as long as they don't use "export_gpl" functions of the kernel Nov 07 10:13:01 they attack sometimes i'm told Nov 07 10:13:19 is restricts the people using Linux as kernel Nov 07 10:13:34 there are no restrictions on userspace Nov 07 10:15:01 these charts need more cowb^H^H^H^Hanimations Nov 07 10:15:06 that's right but not the point. ME as developer can not just do anything with the Linux kernel I am restricted in what I can do with it Nov 07 10:15:48 yes you can do anything Nov 07 10:16:02 wrong. you can do whatever you want, you just are obliged to grant others the same right. Nov 07 10:16:14 I can not make a product using Linux without releasing the code. I can not write and release binary only kernel modules that use these export gpl only symbols Nov 07 10:16:33 keesj, don't do that then Nov 07 10:16:35 keesj: you can do that, you have to grant others the same rights afterwars. Nov 07 10:16:45 keesj: you can do stuff in userland Nov 07 10:16:46 for what you do inside your basement, nobody cares. Nov 07 10:16:55 e.g. you can do anything. Nov 07 10:16:58 I can pretty much guarantee that your 'secret' sauce is not that much interesting to anyone other than yourself Nov 07 10:17:08 LetoThe2nd: indeed it does affect MY freedom Nov 07 10:17:11 LetoThe2nd: that's true on so many levels. Nov 07 10:17:12 besides, it can always be reverse engineered Nov 07 10:18:00 * LetoThe2nd is out again, license trolling people who either do not understand opensource or are stuck in an "i want to use everything but give nothing back"-mindset is just futile. Nov 07 10:18:17 whoever feels adressed is adressed. Nov 07 10:18:42 mdp: indeed. Nov 07 10:19:29 I am closer to the "take and not give back" but again that's not the point. it favors freedom of code over freedom of the users of that code and I think that's bad. Nov 07 10:19:45 *plomk* Nov 07 10:20:14 Nobody cares about bad code and people should give back because they want so or becasue they want to reduces maintenance. Nov 07 10:20:58 ignorance Nov 07 10:21:24 mdp: ... is bliss. Nov 07 11:03:35 * mranostay hides from panto Nov 07 11:07:26 * panto kicks mr Nov 07 11:07:29 * panto kicks mranostay Nov 07 11:07:41 damn, 167 people at #beagle? Nov 07 11:09:11 20 active at most Nov 07 11:13:47 <_av500_> 21 now Nov 07 11:14:10 * dm8tbr yawns Nov 07 11:29:05 panto, the numbers are indicative of the consumer culture Nov 07 11:29:51 pinctrl-consumer ? Nov 07 11:39:43 panto, pinhead consumers Nov 07 11:40:23 hi all Nov 07 11:40:54 hi CareBear\ , welcome to Thunderdome Nov 07 11:41:38 thanks! Nov 07 11:41:54 who'll be fighting the new guy? Nov 07 13:20:36 CareBear\: you have to handle the next OE build question Nov 07 13:29:43 yay! Nov 07 13:43:30 CareBear\: and remember, exact steps are required Nov 07 14:01:48 and downloadable codez Nov 07 14:27:08 Hello Nov 07 14:28:39 I have a beagleboard xM and I have Angstrom 2012.05 on it. I am not able to find resolv.conf in /etc due to which I am not able to configure internet. What can be done? Nov 07 14:30:41 Also the file /var/volatile/run/resolv.conf does not exist (which is I think link to /etc/resolv.conf) Nov 07 14:31:31 are there any alternatives to using /etc/resolv.conf for setting up nameserver? Nov 07 14:53:21 help-seeker : so that is a question for the glibc community Nov 07 14:53:36 help-seeker : but how about you just create resolv.conf on your own? Nov 07 14:53:46 i tried it Nov 07 14:53:51 why didn't you say so? Nov 07 14:53:52 but does not work Nov 07 14:54:19 I tried it after posting here Nov 07 14:54:53 and you of course used the correct syntax for the fil? Nov 07 14:54:54 file Nov 07 14:55:07 yes Nov 07 14:55:24 actually /etc/resolvconf is also absent Nov 07 14:55:29 I'd suggest starting out with something easier - using a DHCP client Nov 07 14:56:04 maybe you have a cost efficient wireless router nearby Nov 07 14:56:15 which can give internetz to your beagle, via DHCP Nov 07 14:56:51 The router is in a room next door which is locked right now Nov 07 14:57:01 i cannnot access it Nov 07 14:57:09 then your development is blocked Nov 07 14:57:19 yes :) Nov 07 14:57:26 I suggest to work on creating a functional development environment, before trying to do any development Nov 07 14:57:41 ok Nov 07 14:58:00 I am going to try rebuilding the code with bitbake resolvconf Nov 07 14:58:01 if you have a laptop and know some iptables you can trivially create your own router of course Nov 07 14:58:20 let me check if that resolves it Nov 07 14:58:37 yes that is also a possiblilty Nov 07 14:58:58 I will check out what can be done with iptables Nov 07 14:59:03 do you think it is likely that the distribution that has been prepared for you and for the rest of the world by what are fairly experienced experts was indeed compiled and set up to actually *exclude* a DNS resolver? Nov 07 14:59:25 iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.0.0/16 -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE && sysctl net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 Nov 07 15:00:55 Actually I did not find /etc/resolvconf which in turn creates /etc/resolv.conf...so may be I thought trying to bitbake it specifically might work Nov 07 15:01:55 I recommend studying glibc instead Nov 07 15:02:46 that would fairly quickly pay off, because you can work with knowledge, rather than having to guess :\ Nov 07 15:03:01 yes I agree with you Nov 07 15:03:26 I shall spend some time studying glibc Nov 07 15:03:41 thanks! Nov 07 15:03:43 I would recommend using a normal PC for that Nov 07 15:03:49 yes :) Nov 07 15:04:16 instead of the beagle, because the beagle is a bit more special Nov 07 15:04:32 the DNS resolver is part of glibc Nov 07 15:04:57 I guess maybe Linux From Scratch is a good way to get into the system components Nov 07 15:05:52 or any other way to build your own distribution is good Nov 07 15:06:53 ok Nov 07 15:07:05 it all depends on what you want to accomplish Nov 07 15:07:40 if you just want to output a system without understanding how it all works, of course it's a huge time investment which you may not want to make Nov 07 15:08:13 then it is probably just as good to continue guessing at solutions and trying things from random blob posts on the internet Nov 07 15:08:32 maybe you'll get lucky and find the correct solution somewhere without spending much time Nov 07 15:09:43 maybe you won't, and instead you'll spend far longer on clicking links on the interwebz to pages filled with photos of cute cats Nov 07 16:05:23 everbody loves cute cats though....ahhhhhh Nov 07 16:07:56 to eat Nov 07 16:07:58 yes Nov 07 16:08:30 that is implied, yes. tastes like chicken Nov 07 17:38:44 Hi. Im using the BeagleBoard C4 to run a simple opencv program which involves following a colored line. I have two motors and I want to make either one of them vibrate depending on the angle of the line. I want the motor to turn on for a specified time (example 0.5s) and then turn off while the main loop still runs. it does not need to be PWM. I used to do this sort of thing on micro controllers using interrupts. How would it be done on Nov 07 17:46:03 Its a C++ program but i don't want to wait for 0.5s in the main loop to turn the motor off. so i want to send a logic high output to a motor and start a timer and turn it off after a set time with an interrupt or something. Do i need a micro? Nov 07 21:07:09 av500: i can hear your phone! ;) Nov 07 21:10:17 ^creepy Nov 07 21:16:51 av500: where the hell are you? Nov 07 21:34:54 lol Nov 07 21:40:47 prpplague: first conf room on the right Nov 07 21:41:02 hmm... if i were to be to make a cape for a beaglebone, who would i need to bribe to get one.. and how much chocolate would that be? :) Nov 07 21:41:35 mru: heading down in a few Nov 07 21:41:42 * KotH would like to troll a few people who are using a fruity board to make ntp servers Nov 07 21:41:53 (ntp servers from GPSDOs) Nov 07 22:12:32 prpplague: we're still at the bar... Nov 07 22:16:21 which bar? Nov 07 22:19:36 hotel Nov 07 22:22:51 good night Nov 07 22:22:57 gn woglinde Nov 07 23:34:06 Hey all, anyone have any idea why my Ubuntu netinstall fails when it tries to install the bootloader? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu Nov 08 03:00:01 2012
