**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Nov 11 02:59:57 2012 Nov 11 03:12:52 o/ Nov 11 03:38:38 Hello everyone, I using BB-xM with Angstrom and an webcam logitech hd525. When I plug the cam in, it no videoX in /dev/. Do I need install another packet? Nov 11 03:38:46 Thank you so much Nov 11 07:07:49 what is the difference between INSTALL_IMAGE and DEPENDS ? Nov 11 07:08:04 DEPENDS adds compile flags for other packages? Nov 11 07:08:23 oh wait Nov 11 07:08:26 wrong channel Nov 11 09:37:28 meh, the documentation for the FRI2 giveaway seems inacurate... Nov 11 09:39:31 oh crap, this thing is getting HOT! oh well... intel... Nov 11 09:48:30 dm8btr what is it exactly Nov 11 09:59:12 woglinde_: it's some sort of intel embedded board. they gave away beaglebones and those during yocto dev day in BCN Nov 11 11:09:11 note to self: use output 2 on the FRI... contradicts documentation but oh well Nov 11 12:03:04 Intel is trolling us Nov 11 12:09:59 it's a neat little system. I like it for the 802.15.4 support. Also nice that it shipped with a yocto image (actually 3 of them on one card) Nov 11 12:20:24 :) Nov 11 12:20:27 I have one also Nov 11 12:20:35 I need to figure out what to use it for Nov 11 15:29:12 laser amn was posting on the panda list, I considered asking him if he needed "the exact steps" Nov 11 19:02:45 anybody home? Nov 11 19:33:25 <_av500_> no Nov 11 19:41:44 on an omap3530 board I keep seeing this: <6>Clocking rate (Crystal/Core/MPU): 26.0/332/500 MHz Nov 11 19:41:51 Reprogramming SDRC clock to 332000000 Hz Nov 11 19:42:00 487.36 BogoMIPS Nov 11 19:42:26 this is supposed to be a 720M part, somehow the kernel just ignored my mpurate setting as 600 or 720 Nov 11 20:15:08 how's the governor configured? Nov 11 20:15:23 ok, i think omap3530 is by default set to 500Mhz cpu Nov 11 20:15:27 unless you mw in u-boot Nov 11 20:15:42 what's the point to pay extra to get 720M parts, hmm Nov 11 20:18:34 quick question regarding angstrom: how can I execute "iwconfig wlan0 power off" automatically when the wlan0 interface comes up? Nov 11 20:18:46 Hi. I installed Debian using these instructions and tried the kernel from both and . I’m powering my BeagleBone via USB. I consistently get an “USB disconnect” message in the host computer’s log and the immediate shutdown of the Nov 11 20:18:48 Bone when generating some CPU load on the Bone (e.g. gzip /dev/null). When reconnecting it to the USB port it boots again without immediate problems. Any ideas? Using the powersave governor doesn’t help (in case it tries to draw too much current from the USB). Nov 11 20:20:44 The default distro had no such problems. Nov 11 20:28:52 * ion tries with https://github.com/koenkooi/linux/tree/linux-ti33x-psp-3.2.30-r17g+gitr720e07b4c1f687b61b147b31c698cb6816d72f01 Nov 11 20:32:20 powering over USB, never a really good option with power hungry parts... Nov 11 20:33:17 usb, never really a good option Nov 11 20:33:40 dm8tbr: simplified it for you Nov 11 20:33:52 thanks! Nov 11 20:44:49 btw: in that kontron thingy it seems like one of the lower antenna ports is connected to a second port on the WiFi card Nov 11 21:04:01 Hi all Nov 11 21:04:25 Anyone here know where to find the physical dimensions of the BeagleBone including screw holes and expansion headers? Nov 11 21:04:38 I'd guess in the SRM Nov 11 21:04:45 I am trying to create a PCB where it is possible to mount hte BeagleBone Nov 11 21:05:34 dm8tbr: I didnt see it in the reference manual. Mayby I did not look enought, will check it again Nov 11 21:05:37 also board design files for both bone and capes are available Nov 11 21:06:40 I saw that, however I am using some app on OSX called OsmondCocoa and it does not like loading the design files unfortunately Nov 11 21:06:44 http://beagleboard.org/static/beaglebone/latest/README.htm in the hardware section, plenty of files Nov 11 21:07:24 They are just for OrCad right ? Nov 11 21:09:01 It seem like I can import PDF and DXF files Nov 11 21:29:49 KotH: your chocolate was met with approval of my SO, thanks again. :) Nov 11 21:32:50 are you sure it wasn't the other way around? Nov 11 21:49:38 hello everyone Nov 11 21:52:15 Can someone tell me how to run connman or have step by step instructions? Nov 11 21:52:56 * dm8tbr cringes Nov 11 21:53:03 on which distro? Nov 11 21:54:31 angrstrom Nov 11 21:54:43 brb.. lemme get the version Nov 11 21:56:08 I recently used the image for the ULCD7 Lite (for BeagleBoard-xM) Angstrom 01-11-12 located: http://beagleboardtoys.com/wiki/index.php?title=ULCD7_Lite Nov 11 21:56:58 angstrom has reasonably good documentation IIRC Nov 11 21:57:13 just install connman following those? Nov 11 21:57:26 my goal is to get wifi adapter working on that image. Nov 11 21:58:16 I also spoke to Jason Kridner and he mentioned that I purchase the wifi adapter from here: http://www.adafruit.com/products/814 Nov 11 21:59:03 He mentioned that I need to run connman first. Nov 11 21:59:30 I'm a newbie so, I'm not sure where to start. Nov 11 22:01:12 I've not connected via ethernet yet. So, I'm not sure what are the first steps to install connman (or is it already installed?) Nov 11 22:05:19 I wouldn't know as I'm not familiar with that image Nov 11 22:05:58 you could just connect over serial console and then poke around Nov 11 22:12:36 * mru just uses wpa_supplicant Nov 11 22:12:41 no need for con men around here Nov 11 22:14:32 Ok, still the same problem with koen’s kernel. Nov 11 22:26:37 so does anyone know how to help me? Nov 11 22:58:04 <_av500_> connman should be in the default image Nov 11 23:00:40 I downloaded the kernel from . It doesn’t have the problem. I suppose i’ll have to get its sources and build from that. Nov 11 23:29:15 I'll ask some of the same questions I asked earlier Nov 11 23:29:53 Can someone tell me how to run connman or have step by step instructions (Angstrom)? Nov 11 23:34:46 doesn't conman start automatically as a service? Nov 11 23:39:16 I'm trying to figure out how to build a custom kernel module. I saw a post on Google Groups where koen suggested writing a bitbake recipe and came across (http://www.kunen.org/uC/beagle/oe_kmod.html) as an example. I'm trying to figure out where to put my bitbake recipe and how to invoke it though... Nov 11 23:40:08 e.g., if I'm just developing in ~/src/foo can I build the module there or do I need to have it in setup-scripts/build/tmp-blahblah/.../git/ etc Nov 11 23:40:38 (I've already built the kernel for my beaglebone using setup-scripts) Nov 11 23:42:21 df___: you can build it out-of-tree Nov 11 23:44:26 df___: Try something like this http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/build-linux-kernel-module-against-installed-kernel-source-tree.html Nov 11 23:44:27 alan_o: Ok. So source / headers in e.g., ~/src/foo/ write Makefile and foo.bb file then MACHINE=beaglebone oebb bitbake foo ? Nov 11 23:44:30 except, Nov 11 23:44:38 don't do the uname -r stuff Nov 11 23:44:50 instead, just put the path to your kernel tree Nov 11 23:44:57 alan_o: Ah ok, I'll give that a read. Nov 11 23:45:03 koen: What’s the best place to get the sources for the same kernel version and set of kernel patches that the default Beagle Bone distro uses? The binary build from works with Debian, but i’d need to enable CONFIG_PPS and CONFIG_PPS_CLIENT_GPIO. All of , Nov 11 23:45:05 and exhibit the same problem: when powered over USB, CPU load causes the host computer to cut power to the Bone. Nov 11 23:45:10 df___: don't worry about bitbake Nov 11 23:45:18 df___: you can add that part later. Nov 11 23:45:48 alan_o: Ah ok Nov 12 00:12:21 where is the newest omap3530/beagleboard/C4 u-boot/xloader code these days? Nov 12 00:14:20 http://downloads.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/ trying this here Nov 12 00:45:45 xxiao: I don't think there's any source in those demo folders if that';s what you're looking for Nov 12 00:46:22 http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/building-angstrom this is how the demo folder is built Nov 12 00:53:44 yeah i had issues with old u-boot/omap3530 with a new board, wondering if old code dislikes newer chips Nov 12 00:54:20 128M works fine, if i use the full 256M then lock-up, crash, hang all start to occur Nov 12 00:54:48 have you run memtest? Nov 12 00:55:01 on an old board(only the chip is newer) everything works fine, i'm suspecting the new roll of chips are bad Nov 12 00:55:06 thurbad: yeah Nov 12 00:55:30 if i limit it to 128MB everything works fine, memtester is happy too Nov 12 00:55:51 on the only board i can run something with 256M, memtester will report "solid bit errors--illegal instruction" Nov 12 00:56:06 500 boards are made for this shit Nov 12 00:57:04 interesting Nov 12 00:59:24 do you have mlo/uboot code of any sort at the moment? Nov 12 00:59:41 i'm actually using the angstrom one above Nov 12 00:59:48 same result with my 2009 old binaries Nov 12 01:00:09 you can limit the memory per chip if you have the sources Nov 12 01:00:33 it's PoP, NAND+DDR+CPU Nov 12 01:00:44 LPDDR Nov 12 01:03:47 what's the difference between u-boot.img, u-boot-beagleboard.img u-boot-beagleboard-2011.12-r4.img ? Nov 12 01:03:57 does BB and BB-xM share the same MLO/u-boot.img? Nov 12 01:04:44 yes, they check the version GPIO pins for code that is specific to one board or another Nov 12 01:05:24 my customized BB board is reported as BB-xM RevA , DRAM 512M while I only have 256M Nov 12 01:05:29 need get the source now Nov 12 01:05:42 yes... Nov 12 02:03:32 what do i need to do to get spidev2 working? Nov 12 02:03:59 i think i'm missing a step somewhere Nov 12 02:04:19 anyone around? Nov 12 02:04:34 there's peeps around Nov 12 02:04:44 mostly lurking though Nov 12 02:04:54 ever do anything with spi? Nov 12 02:05:58 probably .. but I brain dumped that stuff about a year ago Nov 12 02:15:43 ah **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Nov 12 02:59:58 2012
