Nov 19 09:50:47 I saw Japan Center in one of the shots :) Nov 19 09:51:05 I'll have to rewatch those parts cosciously Nov 19 09:51:22 couscously? Nov 19 09:51:31 +n Nov 19 09:52:00 although now that you say it. that railway bridge did look quite familiar in one scene... Nov 19 10:06:02 happy freakin' monday morning Nov 19 10:06:23 _roger_: good morning! Nov 19 10:08:51 * KotH throws a bomb belt at panto Nov 19 10:08:56 happy monday morning to you too! And the speach codec negotiation is easier around there too (unless you hit LANG=de-by) Nov 19 10:15:42 dm8tbr: we're swiss. we understand almost all germans Nov 19 10:15:55 dm8tbr: though, i must say i've a little trouble with platt Nov 19 10:16:24 around here most people speak finncrypt and finglish ;) Nov 19 10:17:31 dm8tbr: if you hire us, i'd give learning finnish a try :-) Nov 19 10:17:45 shouldnt be too difficult to someone knowing two altai languages already ;-) Nov 19 10:18:13 finnish is not particularly altaic Nov 19 10:18:57 and even then, it's like saying russian is easy because you know a couple of indo-european languages (english and german, say) Nov 19 10:20:02 actually, russian is easy Nov 19 10:20:07 even my mother spoke it fluently Nov 19 11:13:00 Crofton, Crofton|work, ping Nov 19 11:25:14 ifconfig has hanged! what should I do? I just installed wifi dongle rtl8192cu, and dmesg says it recognize it after i installed firmware from opkg, but when i run ifconfig it says 'hung_task_timeout_secs' in dmesg Nov 19 11:39:22 we based our previous board on beagle c3, and have begun thinking about the next gen. are the recent news a reason not to choose omap this time? the future seems a bit uncertain.. Nov 19 11:41:23 tasslehoff: depending on what you are doing, omaps might still be a good choice. but note that from omap4, the distribution model has significantly changed, e.g. only large volume customers can get the bare socs. Nov 19 11:43:16 tasslehoff: it depends :) Nov 19 11:43:45 av500: IT depends or it DEPENDS? Nov 19 11:44:18 an omap4 SoM might be a good option Nov 19 11:44:35 meh, omap5 is all the rage now Nov 19 11:44:41 or that, sure Nov 19 11:44:50 * av500 checks his omap6 slides Nov 19 11:44:59 av500: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rage_(band) Nov 19 11:45:08 \o/ metal! Nov 19 11:45:57 /o\ Nov 19 11:46:06 /o/ Nov 19 11:46:08 quick, take the pills Nov 19 11:46:18 |-o-| Nov 19 11:46:36 hrhrhr Nov 19 11:46:54 >o< Nov 19 11:48:07 * axMountain loves wifi on linux Nov 19 11:56:07 LetoThe2nd: that is our problem. we're a small volume customer :) Nov 19 11:58:28 ask ti for some OMAP4428 Nov 19 11:58:48 small volume and small company, so beagle + openembedded (+ #beagle) has really been important :) Nov 19 11:58:50 what's that? downclocked 4430? Nov 19 11:58:59 tasslehoff: then omap4/5 is probably not an option, except as a SoM Nov 19 12:01:22 tasslehoff: call phytec *cough* :) Nov 19 12:02:26 connmand hungs after i run 'systemctl restart connman.service', does anyone know what is wrong? Nov 19 12:04:10 :) Nov 19 12:04:27 axMountain: I am sure the binary syslogd output will tell you the exact error Nov 19 12:05:12 av500: thank you, I'll check Nov 19 12:06:02 tasslehoff: another option is variscite, which is a bit cheaper, but does not provide the same level in longterm support and physical testing, at least AFAIK. Nov 19 12:07:21 av500, ouch Nov 19 12:16:51 av500: is it possible to read the binary syslogd? Nov 19 12:18:08 * mru suggests printing it in hex, rolling it up, and shoving down lennart's throat Nov 19 12:18:40 * panto just spend 1h+ trying to find out where reboot hangs with systemd Nov 19 12:18:55 but it's better!!!! Nov 19 12:19:00 why... do...you... use... systemd? Nov 19 12:19:02 and modern!!! Nov 19 12:19:08 the fuck it is Nov 19 12:20:17 * axMountain think's he's getting the point Nov 19 12:20:45 axMountain, panto: but seriously, why do you use systemd? Nov 19 12:21:03 they want to be cool like lennart Nov 19 12:21:37 KotH: caus it was shipped with the beaglebone, i'll change to ubuntu right away Nov 19 12:21:45 KotH, not my call Nov 19 12:21:58 somehow I don't think ubuntu is that much better Nov 19 12:22:07 hehe Nov 19 12:22:14 what is then? Nov 19 12:22:23 axMountain: go the av500 way and use buildroot :) Nov 19 12:24:18 KotH: we even have systemd in buildroot these days :P Nov 19 12:24:30 /o\ Nov 19 12:24:38 good that i'm on a 5year old relase Nov 19 12:25:00 av500: we didn't have releases 5 years ago. I guess you are referring to a random svn snapshot Nov 19 12:25:05 why x86 sucks, #34857235: http://mainisusuallyafunction.blogspot.gr/2012/11/attacking-hardened-linux-systems-with.html Nov 19 12:25:07 Jacmet: WHY? WHY? In the name of all what is holy and trollish, WHY? Nov 19 12:25:09 KotH: "Can handle everything in your embedded system" sound promising Nov 19 12:25:17 Jacmet: ack Nov 19 12:25:38 KotH: because somebody contributed it. Don't take it as a recommendation Nov 19 12:25:54 Jacmet: is his head on a stake? if not, why? Nov 19 12:26:10 KotH: I released 2012.11-rc1 Saturday, time to upgrade ;) Nov 19 12:26:54 Jacmet: but you didnt had to accept the patch! Nov 19 12:27:17 think of the children! Nov 19 12:27:37 * KotH thinks of av500s children and himself Nov 19 12:28:04 haha Nov 19 12:28:36 KotH: no cross-channel chatting! Nov 19 12:28:47 lunch Nov 19 12:28:53 kids and their xcc attacks... Nov 19 12:28:58 panto: ack Nov 19 12:29:25 * av500 does not understand how people can bring children into this world of lennart these days Nov 19 12:31:34 btw: https://plus.google.com/106265217227408958782/posts/XZM2Ljbj2TF Nov 19 12:31:36 av500: how old is your youngest? Nov 19 12:31:48 KotH: I am guilty Nov 19 12:32:35 av500: you're a troll, being guilty is what you are Nov 19 12:33:32 KotH: well, actually, #3 was forked pre-systemd Nov 19 12:33:46 I'm innocent Nov 19 12:33:56 I forgot the 9 months debug phase Nov 19 12:46:17 panto, after you invest the ramp-up time, you'll mostly forget about the painful introductory period with systemd Nov 19 12:46:47 unless you have jcm circled like me ;) Nov 19 12:49:01 its like chest pains, hurt your knee to distract you from it.... Nov 19 12:52:57 its a gathering Nov 19 12:54:17 av500: yes, but avahi already existed! Nov 19 12:55:13 KotH: I dont need that to boot a system Nov 19 12:56:29 panto, you rang? Nov 19 12:56:44 he went for lunch Nov 19 12:56:51 I see Nov 19 12:57:00 back Nov 19 12:57:11 hi mdp Nov 19 12:57:12 quick Nov 19 12:57:25 Crofton|work, hey Nov 19 12:57:53 av500, I have something like a personal chef in the building (my mother-in-law) Nov 19 12:58:05 that's the perk, but comes with my father-in-law as a bundle Nov 19 12:58:11 panto: and she let you leave the table that fast? Nov 19 12:58:36 I had her trained Nov 19 12:58:40 oh Nov 19 12:58:55 Crofton|work, so I have a friends that's into SDR Nov 19 12:58:58 *fried Nov 19 12:59:02 *friend even Nov 19 12:59:02 damn Nov 19 12:59:09 fired fried friends Nov 19 12:59:15 delicious Nov 19 12:59:43 deep* ? Nov 19 12:59:57 twice Nov 19 13:00:07 like twinkies Nov 19 13:00:24 zwieback? Nov 19 13:00:33 er.. zwiefry? Nov 19 13:00:34 and? Nov 19 13:00:48 he's a ham buff, and he's looking into making a cape for that Nov 19 13:01:07 a bacon cape Nov 19 13:01:08 so I was wondering maybe you could work together Nov 19 13:01:24 I am very busy with other projects :( Nov 19 13:01:39 I see :/ Nov 19 13:01:51 alot of ham stuff is narrowban rf fed into the audio adc Nov 19 13:02:04 yes, that's exactly his idea Nov 19 13:02:13 he has a good idea then :) Nov 19 13:02:15 he already has something that works Nov 19 13:02:33 but it's a hacked up solution Nov 19 13:02:37 hmm, DRM receiver cape Nov 19 13:02:49 yeah Nov 19 13:02:54 usb -> uC -> audio codec -> rf Nov 19 13:03:15 for a cape, you should be able to avoid usb/uc? Nov 19 13:03:21 yeah Nov 19 13:03:44 perhaps even tack on an FPGA, like the FPGA cape and do higher performance stuff Nov 19 13:04:09 there is not a low of fpga skill available Nov 19 13:04:17 for ham stuff I would avoid that Nov 19 13:04:59 I think he knows that Nov 19 13:05:08 good Nov 19 13:05:17 but there are other guys that can hack FPGAs around Nov 19 13:05:30 we need a way to grow more open source oriented fpga people Nov 19 13:05:37 right Nov 19 13:05:44 actually most of the SDR development is done on the USRP and similar boards these days, which all contain an fpga Nov 19 13:05:48 so I think I have the people that can do that around here Nov 19 13:05:58 but they kinda lack focus Nov 19 13:06:20 Crofton|work: how do you want to do that? C is already very difficult for most people, how do you want to teach the VHDL or even worse Verilog? Nov 19 13:06:34 so I was wondering Nov 19 13:06:45 the problem is the development environment Nov 19 13:06:57 that too Nov 19 13:07:20 it is very h/w targeted (i.e. need an JTAG connection, develop on a windoze pc, etc) Nov 19 13:07:24 though for the smaller fpgas you get free synthesiszers Nov 19 13:07:42 KotH, yes Nov 19 13:07:55 whats the problem with jtag? Nov 19 13:08:01 it's just another adapter Nov 19 13:08:31 KotH: btw, Crofton|work *is* Mr. USRP here :) Nov 19 13:08:35 KotH, yes, but it's another thing to configure, and needs another PC Nov 19 13:08:55 jtag from the bone Nov 19 13:08:58 av500, Crofton|work is a usurper? Nov 19 13:09:05 av500, yes, that's an idea Nov 19 13:09:07 mdp: the worst kind Nov 19 13:09:13 av500: oh... Nov 19 13:09:20 mdp, he's the illegitimate heir to throne Nov 19 13:09:23 * mdp shuns Crofton|work Nov 19 13:09:32 we did bitbang jtag for some CPLD in the past from the uC Nov 19 13:09:53 back Nov 19 13:10:12 sounds like an interesting discussion...that's what I was planning to do for the 6502 cape's CPLD..just program it from the bone Nov 19 13:10:15 so, what would be the ideal, low-cost cape design Nov 19 13:10:26 there was a program called usrper back nit eh day :) Nov 19 13:10:37 I know the low-end stuff can be handled by the audio codec Nov 19 13:10:40 panto: the AirCape(tm) Nov 19 13:10:45 no capes! Nov 19 13:10:49 its like an air guitar Nov 19 13:10:54 how about pants Nov 19 13:11:07 Crofton|work: nah, not for home workers Nov 19 13:11:11 a small fpga would give poeple something to try out Nov 19 13:11:27 av500, clearly an AAPL trademark problem there Nov 19 13:11:30 KotH, the usrp is verilog centric :) Nov 19 13:11:40 "learn to hate VHDL for only $39" - that will sell that cape Nov 19 13:11:41 right, and forgive my utter ignorance on the subject, what kind of applications a small fpga could target? Nov 19 13:12:09 I guess I owuld ike at cost Nov 19 13:12:09 panto: well..with most fpgas you can load them from a system processor Nov 19 13:12:11 perhaps nothing very high speed like wifi Nov 19 13:12:18 no wifi is hard Nov 19 13:12:28 bitbang wifi? Nov 19 13:12:34 KotH, I know, I've done that too :) Nov 19 13:12:45 not sure, narrow abnd ham stuff should be doable in processor Nov 19 13:12:55 Crofton|work, RFID? Nov 19 13:12:58 panto: why are we talking then, if you know everyhing already? ;-) Nov 19 13:13:00 there is a 1ghz with neon after all Nov 19 13:13:01 or NFC? Nov 19 13:13:07 KotH, I know nothing :) Nov 19 13:13:27 I just bitbanged the FPGA loader, I know nothing about FPGA programming :) Nov 19 13:13:37 +1 Nov 19 13:13:53 you are getting into a class of application you would want a usrp for Nov 19 13:14:06 hams are notoriously cheap :) Nov 19 13:14:07 Crofton|work: URSP cape then Nov 19 13:14:27 panto: if you know ADA, you can write VHDL Nov 19 13:14:28 Crofton|work, I don't know, I'm just asking Nov 19 13:14:46 panto: if you know C, you realize that verilog is a beaten up version of C that you dont want to use ;) Nov 19 13:15:02 heh Nov 19 13:15:03 ah, like C++ Nov 19 13:15:05 which is why people use verilog, because we can imagine what i ahppening Nov 19 13:15:09 av500, +1 Nov 19 13:15:12 av500: way worse than c++ Nov 19 13:15:26 Crofton|work: actually, europe is mostly vhdl Nov 19 13:15:39 Crofton|work: related note, hopefully, isn't Papilio an attempt to grow more FOSS friendly fpga folks? Nov 19 13:15:45 apparently so is us east coast Nov 19 13:15:51 us west coast is verilog Nov 19 13:16:11 fight a war over it Nov 19 13:16:13 my uni taught VHDL because it's a "true standard" ;) Nov 19 13:16:24 *cough*pascal*couch* Nov 19 13:16:27 mdp: wtf? Nov 19 13:16:43 mdp: afaik verilog has been an ieee standard for nearly as long as vhdl Nov 19 13:16:57 mdp: though, i must admit that the design of verilog is inexistend Nov 19 13:17:10 KotH: yeah, I was confused by that even back then Nov 19 13:17:11 panto: pascal (at least its modern variants) are cool! Nov 19 13:17:21 * panto blinks Nov 19 13:17:28 no they're not Nov 19 13:17:33 * panto dons holly warrior suit Nov 19 13:18:26 KotH: I think people justify whatever they like..I'm sure the department head believed VHDL was going to kill Verilog Nov 19 13:18:31 * KotH dons unholly warrior suit and bomb belt Nov 19 13:18:44 mdp: sadly it didnt Nov 19 13:18:56 certainly not ;) Nov 19 13:19:46 it's now 18ish years later after that class for me and I find I need to parse both to sift through various FOSS h/w projects. Nov 19 13:20:05 just say no to open hardware Nov 19 13:20:09 so, for something like this: http://ebrombaugh.studionebula.com/embedded/bfpga2/index.html Nov 19 13:20:13 KotH: tbh, I don't see the big deal, we all need to parse numerous languages Nov 19 13:20:40 mdp: i learned verliog when dealing with ogp, but imho this is just a mambojambo language Nov 19 13:20:50 would that handle something like ham + am/fm radio? Nov 19 13:20:59 mdp: very confusing and you can do errors by missing a single character at some crucial point Nov 19 13:21:11 mdp: not exactly something i'd like to use for hw development Nov 19 13:21:17 KotH, very true to C's tradition :) Nov 19 13:21:22 I haven't actively worked in it, myself..good to know Nov 19 13:21:25 mdp: vhdl on the other hand has a very clear structure, but is overly verbose Nov 19 13:21:43 panto: no, it's even worse Nov 19 13:21:50 C++ then? Nov 19 13:22:06 panto: with c you can let your software crash. with verilog you can fry your hardware without even knowing why Nov 19 13:22:17 KotH: reminds me of stories from a bearded (much senior) CS grad student who told me of JCL nightmares with a missed character causing thousands of pages of printed errors from his timeshared job ;) Nov 19 13:22:25 its more like an unholy marriage between c and forth Nov 19 13:22:38 mdp: *g* Nov 19 13:23:32 anyone ever did systemc? Nov 19 13:23:51 mdp: it reminds me of the prof at uni that printed a job that turned out into raw postscript - he kept feeding the papers ~1000pages to make it stop Nov 19 13:23:58 that's mostly like how verilog should have been done... but it's even more verbose than vhdl Nov 19 13:24:10 the printer* Nov 19 13:24:16 av500, nice ;) Nov 19 13:24:55 for the other prof we had to keep a 2400 dialin so he could log in from home and check his email Nov 19 13:25:09 never change a running system Nov 19 13:25:48 av500: the lugs is afaik still providing uucp to its members :) Nov 19 13:26:14 KotH: panto: wtf is a holly warrior? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holly Nov 19 13:26:58 reminds me of the Holly Bush pub in Hampstead Nov 19 13:27:30 it's a holy warrior that's very bad at spelling Nov 19 13:30:31 or one that is wearing a holly branch :) Nov 19 13:31:07 only Nov 19 13:31:17 hrm, very cool, didn't realize emeb's designs were PMOD compatible..nice since I have a digilent board as well Nov 19 13:32:10 Hi, could I ask for help? I have BeagleBoard xM rev C with Angstrom distribution installed. But I can not run the S-video. What package I need to switch S-video on? Nov 19 13:32:27 you need the right kernel command line Nov 19 13:33:06 http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu#Process_for_setting_up_S-Video Nov 19 13:33:32 hmm, that mentions boot.scr, but I guess you need to edit uEnv.txt these daays Nov 19 13:33:56 http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardAngstrom#Configuring_uEnv.txt_to_set_s-video_as_the_default_display_on_BeagleBoard-xM Nov 19 13:34:08 ah, first one was ubuntu, my bad Nov 19 13:44:38 Thank you very much av500! I was reading this web page yesterday in the evening and I coul not to solve the problem. If I edit the uEnv.txt the file did not changed. But I have just tried to edit it, then I logged of and then I restart BB. And now it is running! Nov 19 14:00:00 have a nice day! Good bye Nov 19 14:36:17 Anybody want to see my Xbee Christmas light controller? https://plus.google.com/108380917869049424169/posts Nov 19 14:41:31 SilicaGel: nice, and fun that you are posting the different design steps. Is the other side a beagle? Nov 19 14:41:52 No, but the controller that synchronizes all of this is Nov 19 14:42:09 it's a beaglebone running linux Nov 19 14:42:14 and another xbee Nov 19 14:44:31 i ahve to figure out those stupid press-in tabs though, they really don't fit into the round hole Nov 19 14:44:37 perhaps because they are square :-O Nov 19 14:50:33 SilicaGel: added you on g+, expect embedded posts :) Nov 19 14:50:41 haha i'll try Nov 19 14:51:16 and weird arty stuff too Nov 19 14:51:27 we're not to comment on those, apparently Nov 19 14:54:38 really? hmm taht's odd Nov 19 14:55:16 arty stuff? from av500? or his kids? Nov 19 15:00:43 SilicaGel: yeah, ignore 90% of my posts Nov 19 15:00:59 the embedded ones go to circles, not public Nov 19 15:01:16 man, this udev story is epic Nov 19 15:01:29 lp is fanning the flames Nov 19 15:01:38 no surprise there Nov 19 15:02:15 systemd is THE WAY, anyone who says otherwise is an infidel Nov 19 15:05:55 hrhrhr Nov 19 15:07:49 av500: what does he write now? Nov 19 15:08:02 mru: "JIHAD!"? Nov 19 16:52:17 yes Nov 19 16:52:30 because a blurry underexposed 12MP looks just blurry and underexposed Nov 19 16:52:50 alan_o, #retroallthethings Nov 19 16:52:55 alan_o: phones don't take great pictures Nov 19 16:52:57 to get 12MP, they do not add pixels, they slice up the existing ones Nov 19 16:53:00 right.. add "old" effect to it, and now it's "art" Nov 19 16:53:27 I wonder if I can drill these .140" holes to .210" without destroying the boards. Nov 19 16:53:58 alan_o, taking Polaroids now is the ultimate art form. Nov 19 16:54:12 my phone has a crappy camera. I don't know anything about phone cameras really. Nov 19 16:54:18 I do know that my wife's phone takes better pictures than my digital camera from 2003 that I'm still using. Nov 19 16:54:32 mdp: and looking at them on your C64? Nov 19 16:54:40 alan_o, you need to quit living in the past, man! Nov 19 16:54:46 alan_o: do you know what polaroid is Nov 19 16:54:58 * alan_o shakes his polaroid to make it expose faster. Nov 19 16:55:09 alan_o, I had a kid exclaim last night how awesome a Polaroid camera was while watching an 80s movie..hehe Nov 19 16:55:19 unexplicably somehow today's phones can sometimes take very good pictures Nov 19 16:55:27 well polaroid makes digital polaroid cameras Nov 19 16:55:39 ant_work: in good light Nov 19 16:55:47 :) Nov 19 16:55:49 digital cameras steal your soul! Nov 19 16:55:52 well, jacekowski, you know what I mean ;) Nov 19 16:55:55 ant_work: as soon as you have less than ideal light, shit happens Nov 19 16:56:11 mdp: i mean it Nov 19 16:56:21 mdp: camera with printer built in Nov 19 16:56:39 http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/06/27/Poloroid-creates-Z2300-instant-digital-camera Nov 19 16:56:42 jacekowski: yes, many people I knew had polaroids. It wasn't that long ago really. I always thought they were stupid. You get one picture that's too small that you have to carry around with you in fragile exposed form. Nov 19 16:56:44 yeah, but you don't have to shake it when it comes out...ruins the whole deal Nov 19 16:57:08 I have vague remembering about optical but for sure there is a reason for the 35mm/Reflex Nov 19 16:58:02 ant_work: optical? That's old school. All you need is MP Nov 19 16:58:29 optics are for has-beens. digital zoom is where it's at. Nov 19 16:58:49 alan_o: you need lens that has enough resolving power to use those megapixels Nov 19 16:58:55 heh, oh..sorry..I thought that you need a distance between two lenses to have some range ;) Nov 19 16:59:09 (I'm trolling) :) Nov 19 16:59:10 for range finders, yes :) Nov 19 17:00:05 I'd actually like to get a nice digital camera, but can't ever find anyone in a store who knows anything. Nov 19 17:00:10 * mdp sees many facts here and becomes confused. Nov 19 17:00:18 mdp: factcheck? Nov 19 17:00:21 alan_o: nice and shiny? Nov 19 17:00:28 go for a silver one with gold trim Nov 19 17:00:35 with gofast stripes? Nov 19 17:00:50 typical lens in a phone has maybe 1/4th resolving power of the sensor Nov 19 17:00:57 That's the problem... I ask people, "where's the depth of field preview?" and they look at me blank. Nov 19 17:01:07 as in, you could have 4x megapixels less and photo would still come out the same Nov 19 17:01:08 alan_o: get a DSLR Nov 19 17:01:13 alan_o: they have that Nov 19 17:01:29 not all of them Nov 19 17:01:33 av500: not that I've been able to find, at least not the ones in best buy. Nov 19 17:01:35 ask them where you connect your flahs cubes :) Nov 19 17:01:49 flash cubes are obsolete Nov 19 17:01:55 hitlin37: hows uni? Nov 19 17:01:56 av500: yeah, the looks I get, I might as well have asked that question. Nov 19 17:01:59 av500, I learned that if I were to have a nice camera...there's nowhere to hang it safely while having a beer in Barcelona Nov 19 17:02:01 that would be cool Nov 19 17:02:02 true story Nov 19 17:02:08 have flash cube adapter for SLR Nov 19 17:02:13 from standard SLR Nov 19 17:02:18 hi panto Nov 19 17:02:35 rockstar in the house! Nov 19 17:03:09 av500: actually, now that I think about it, one guy in a photo store did tell me that depth of field preview was a function of the lens. I guess that's the problem, they don't want to sell the old school lenses anymore Nov 19 17:03:16 * mdp stands near jkridner. Nov 19 20:43:54 al gore made the channel Nov 19 20:43:57 <_av500_> out of kids tears, yes Nov 19 20:44:03 <_av500_> mdp: +1 Nov 19 20:44:05 mdp: i bet that freaked you out Nov 19 20:44:35 mranostay, it's one of those great demos of why you follow the handling rules..all the time ;) Nov 19 20:44:50 mdp: i know that the sig 550 starts firing itself when you've been shooting for too long.. but what kind of mechanism is that that doesnt stop? Nov 19 20:45:31 there's some milling problem with the way they made the semi-auto only sear mechanism that they put in them for the .us market Nov 19 20:46:00 and it doesn't catch the bolt reliably on rare occasion Nov 19 20:46:08 but..that's what you get with cheap crap Nov 19 20:46:18 mranostay, AR15++ ;) Nov 19 20:46:18 <_av500_> its a kind of population control Nov 19 20:46:48 it's like buying a resistive touchscreen tablet from a year ago ;) Nov 19 20:56:26 cya tomorrow Nov 19 20:56:29 bye Nov 19 20:58:07 * mdp waves at challinan Nov 19 20:58:31 oh uh challinan Nov 19 20:59:15 * challinan waves at matt(squared) Nov 19 20:59:23 has anyone here tried qt on angstrom ? Something pre-built? Nov 19 21:38:09 the HA is just software Nov 19 21:38:14 "just" Nov 19 21:38:39 I mean, I suppose if you bought some hardware that came with a stack that supported HA.... Nov 19 21:39:00 but not sure where to get a cheap/free stack other than FreakZ, and I don't know if he's still working on that. Nov 19 21:39:06 or what profiles he supports Nov 19 21:40:26 * alan_o is way too amused by the xeyes on his panel.... Nov 19 21:43:48 alan_o, you need weyes on wayland Nov 19 21:44:12 is there a procedure to install linux on B-Bone Nov 19 21:44:28 thinkg: there are exact steps on the website Nov 19 21:44:36 thinkg: google for "beaglebone getting started" Nov 19 21:44:47 ok, thanks Nov 19 21:45:13 _av500_, what type of connection for the HA stuff? Nov 19 21:51:55 <_av500_> ds2: ? zigbee Nov 19 21:52:30 <_av500_> alan_o: yes, looking for prebuilt Nov 19 21:52:37 <_av500_> as in, lets see if it interoperates Nov 19 21:54:19 now that I have hw that is capable of 802.15.4 it would be nice to play with it. Nov 19 21:55:08 * dm8tbr would be also interested in some small modules to talk to. Nov 19 21:55:20 dm8tbr: if only you had some exact steps Nov 19 21:55:24 6lopan sounds nice because IPV6 ;) Nov 19 21:55:48 mdp: yes if only exact steps to a shop :) Nov 19 21:56:57 1) call utility to install smart meter and smart thermostat 2) watch install 3) enjoy magic 802.15.4 waves dancing through the air .... 6) profit! Nov 19 21:57:01 <_av500_> the only HA stuff I can find costs > $100 for as simple as a switch Nov 19 21:57:25 <_av500_> and there are very few Nov 19 21:57:33 <_av500_> it must be next year tech(tm) Nov 19 21:58:54 surely it's <$5 in a pouch from Shenzhen to you Nov 19 21:59:03 _av500_: no interest in legacy connects? Nov 19 21:59:21 which bands is Zigbee allowed in the EU? Nov 19 21:59:32 (assuming that has been harmonized) Nov 19 21:59:37 koen: so are FRI2s actually getting shipped? :) Nov 19 22:00:01 <_av500_> ds2: 2.4 i guess Nov 19 22:00:24 Yikes... that makes for a crowded 2.4G Nov 19 22:00:35 imagine the problems at apt complexes Nov 19 22:00:50 I think there is Zigbee on 900MHz too. Nov 19 22:01:04 And Zigbee does not interfere with 802.11 Nov 19 22:01:17 Since the bands are much smaller and in different places/. Nov 19 22:01:22 define does not interfere Nov 19 22:01:36 Um...does not cause interference? Nov 19 22:01:43 if you put out energy, I don't see how it cannot not interfere Nov 19 22:01:47 I am honestly not sure how to make that statement simpler. Nov 19 22:02:03 well... it could mean 2 things off hand - Nov 19 22:02:14 ds2: Hoave you ever looked at how 802.11, or 802.15.4 for that matter, actually work at a protocol level? Nov 19 22:02:16 1. It is completely absolutely transparent to 802.11 Nov 19 22:02:36 2. It does not cause corruption and packet loss in 802.11 as somehow 802.11 will reduce its usage or work around it Nov 19 22:02:42 I suspect you mean (2) Nov 19 22:02:48 Mostly the latter. Nov 19 22:03:00 then if you ahve enough, it will still degrade 802.11 Nov 19 22:03:10 But there are bands on 802.15.4 that do not in any way affect the 802.11 bands. Nov 19 22:03:15 esp. considering you also have BT, analog 2.4GHz crap, and microwaves in that band Nov 19 22:03:29 yes, in the US you can get zigbee on 433, 900, and 2.4 Nov 19 22:03:30 And, therre is the entire 900MHz ISB section that 802.15.4 can run it. Nov 19 22:03:36 but donno if that is allowed in the EU Nov 19 22:03:54 Ah, I missed that you were asking about the EU. Nov 19 22:04:08 * agmlego has exactly zero knowledge of EU bandplans. Nov 19 22:04:10 :) Nov 19 22:04:26 and worse yet, donno if there is a "EU" answer or is it up to member countries Nov 19 22:04:35 agmlego: are you planning on getting caught? Nov 19 22:04:39 if not, it does not matter Nov 19 22:04:55 mru: how's the 1KW sparkgap xmitter going? ;) Nov 19 22:05:14 mru: Why are you asking me? Nov 19 22:05:42 there is a nice spark gap site in sweden that operates still from time to time Nov 19 22:05:59 <_av500_> ds2: we have stuff at 866 here Nov 19 22:06:17 dm8tbr: There is no such thing as a "nice" sparkgap. Nov 19 22:06:30 <_av500_> it can have nice sparks Nov 19 22:06:38 agmlego: sorry, misread who was asking what Nov 19 22:07:28 heheh Nov 19 22:08:27 on a different note Nov 19 22:08:57 during a dump, is there any reason why (LR % 4) == 2 if I do not have thumb code? Nov 19 22:10:53 ds2: lr is a general-purpose register Nov 19 22:11:04 it is only slightly special Nov 19 22:11:49 bl(x) puts the return address there, and 'bx lr' pops the return stack on cores with such branch prediction Nov 19 22:11:56 other than that you can use it as you please Nov 19 22:12:21 so arbitrary values are to be expected Nov 19 22:14:35 mru: in this case it is being used as a return address Nov 19 22:14:51 mru: just find it odd to be merely even and not 4byte aligned Nov 19 22:15:13 that's invalid Nov 19 22:15:23 a thumb return address would have the lsb set Nov 19 22:15:26 to indicate thumb Nov 19 22:16:02 okay, another mystery to chase down Nov 19 22:16:17 thanks confirming it is invalid Nov 19 22:40:45 hello I have a beagleboard rev b5 and I have a problem with the TPS2141, after pluging it on usb(only usb) the chip was smoking. Is it possible to buy this chip from beagleboard.org or somewhere else? Nov 19 22:48:42 ds2: You mean like this: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/TPS2141IPWP/296-12565-5-ND/441101 Nov 19 22:49:03 Er, deny ^^ Nov 19 22:50:03 deny: you should ask on the beagle google mail list. Nov 19 22:50:36 the mighty board makers are there Nov 19 22:51:26 <_av500_> that smite the boards with their heathen hammers Nov 19 22:51:35 Also, you should probably figure out what was wrong with the boarfd before you put a new chip in... ;-P Nov 19 22:52:40 and the great board makers can help you there too. Nov 19 22:52:51 bring a chicken along Nov 19 22:53:21 are you sure a chicken is enough? for a diode or two it would probably suffice Nov 19 22:53:34 an entire IC, and smoking at that, may well require a goat Nov 19 22:54:05 Whoa! costs have gone up all around I see . Nov 19 23:00:01 latter. . . Nov 19 23:00:25 rinse, repeat Nov 19 23:00:45 :) Nov 19 23:50:58 Hey Guys, I am currently having an issue with my Rev A5A beaglebone. Iv had it working perfectly for days, i just got an LCD 3 cape and plugged it into my bone. I powered up using a 5V 2.5A adapter and the LCD loaded the Angstrom login screen, however after a short period the bone rebooted. Now whenever i power up the bone via power adapter or USB it just constantly reboots, even with the LCD cape removed. Anyone had similar issued or kno Nov 19 23:54:31 SamB: you might want to post this to the Beagle ML Nov 19 23:56:32 Sorry im very new to the beagle development, what is the beagle ML? Nov 19 23:56:41 mailing list Nov 19 23:57:07 ahh right thank you Nov 20 02:15:21 I have a rev A6 board and phy 0:00 is not found for some reason. It was working before, then I tried to use the TPS65217 backlight and now it no longer works. Nov 20 02:15:38 I've reverted back to the card that came with the bone new, and it doesn't work either. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue Nov 20 02:59:57 2012
