**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Nov 01 02:59:59 2013 Nov 01 03:00:12 is it possible to restore the beaglebone to the default image by booting from SD (in ubuntu) and just xz -cd https://s3.amazonaws.com/angstrom/demo/beaglebone/BBB-eMMC-flasher-2013.06.20.img.xz > /dev/xxx, where xxx is the eMMC ? Nov 01 03:00:57 docs say to xz -cd the image to the SD, and then it will automatically flash it when you reboot from the SD to the eMMC.. Nov 01 05:04:52 good morning!!! Nov 01 05:04:59 I was wondering if any could help me here. Nov 01 05:05:22 I'm new to the beagleboard sceen Nov 01 05:05:33 and I have trying to install socket.io on my board Nov 01 05:05:38 with no luck Nov 01 05:05:51 I keep getting the following error Nov 01 05:06:08 info it worked if ends with ok verbose cli [ 'user/bin/node', '/usr/bin/npm', 'install', 'socket.io' ] info using npm@1.2.14 info using node@v0.8.22 verbose read json /var/lib/cloud9/package.json verbose read json /var/lib/cloud9/package.json verbose cache add [ 'socket.io', null ] verbose cache add name=undefined spec="socket.io" args=["socket.io",null] verbose parsed url { pathname: 'socket.io', path: 'socket.io', href: 'socket.i Nov 01 05:06:33 could anyone tell me how I would resolve this issue??? Nov 01 07:23:27 installation of usb driver on windows 64-bit fail Nov 01 07:23:34 any hoep? Nov 01 07:23:40 help? Nov 01 07:24:23 hello Nov 01 07:24:32 this has been covered on the mailing list and the website AFAIU Nov 01 07:24:47 you're a very patient person aren't you? Nov 01 07:24:53 yes Nov 01 07:25:31 my installation on windows 7 success but in windows 8 not Nov 01 07:25:54 how can I go to AFIU? Nov 01 07:26:03 AFAIU? Nov 01 07:28:08 http://bit.ly/1aYhD5v Nov 01 07:29:19 hi Nov 01 07:29:21 THANKS YOU Nov 01 07:29:37 I'm going there Nov 01 07:55:34 just ordered my Beagl Board Black with 6 accessories, I'm so excited! Did overnight delivery lol Nov 01 07:56:28 :> yay for new toyzzzz! Nov 01 07:57:19 Agreed! yay! Nov 01 08:01:10 I love how it even has a motor driver Nov 01 08:01:33 (as part of an accessory) Nov 01 08:58:31 hi, how to use serial port in beagle board? Nov 01 08:59:54 Hi Quinto , what do you mean? and what device do you have? Nov 01 09:02:27 hi Nov 01 09:02:31 I have beagle black Nov 01 09:02:37 and i want use serial port Nov 01 09:02:40 but where is? Nov 01 09:03:08 have to buy a 3.3v serial adapter Nov 01 09:03:45 or use USB interface if only connecting the Beagle Black to your PC Nov 01 09:04:16 speaking of is there a software of firmware setting that would cause the USB-tty to stop working? Nov 01 09:04:56 beagle black doesn't have usb tty Nov 01 09:05:42 ok then i but the exapansion board Nov 01 09:06:16 I had it working along with the gimic device with the included documentation Nov 01 09:06:25 another question: How to customize my kernel? i used freescale imx53qsb and i had LTIB that is a simple menu for to customize my kernel and select/unselect driver and packets Nov 01 09:08:08 make menuconfig Nov 01 09:08:14 like on any other Linux Nov 01 09:08:19 except freescale :) Nov 01 09:08:27 hehe Nov 01 09:08:38 who in his right mind would use LTIB anyways? Nov 01 09:08:48 some people Nov 01 09:08:53 masochists? Nov 01 09:09:35 KotH: we dont judge people here Nov 01 09:09:58 ok Nov 01 09:10:13 but there is a kernel uImage that is preconfigurated Nov 01 09:10:23 Quinto: in a lot of ways, there is nothing special about beaglebone, compared to other linux systems Nov 01 09:10:25 with GPIO, serial port, ethernet, Nov 01 09:10:28 including your desktop PC Nov 01 09:10:40 av500: that's no judgment, just stating facts Nov 01 09:10:44 so all the general Linux knowledge applies Nov 01 09:10:57 which is vast Nov 01 09:11:38 or often not so vast Nov 01 09:16:31 general linux ... the next avenger :) Nov 01 09:17:04 (he knows it aaal...) Nov 01 10:00:10 Dang, I cannot wait to receive my Beagle Black Nov 01 10:01:41 sleep Nov 01 10:01:44 it makes the time pass faster Nov 01 10:01:55 poor man's time travel Nov 01 10:14:08 lmao! Nov 01 10:14:13 So true av500 Nov 01 10:16:08 I got 6 accessories with my order for overnight hah... But I feel I want to get more Nov 01 11:53:08 hi Nov 01 11:53:30 can i make some questions? about buing a beagleboard? Nov 01 11:54:19 you seem to be capable of asking general questions, so i guess you should be able to ask questions about buying too Nov 01 11:55:08 basically Is there any european distributor except farnell that does not have 60$ shippment? i am in Greece Nov 01 11:56:44 mouser ships to europe as well Nov 01 11:56:55 and afaik there are a few Nov 01 11:57:10 just go trough the list and choose the one that has lowest shipping to your place Nov 01 11:57:52 but mouser needs to have 65$ package in order not to place 20$ shippment and also mouser shipps with UPS that means over 130euros in custom clearance Nov 01 11:58:17 this why i asked for a european distributor Nov 01 11:58:48 go trough the list on www.beagleborad.org Nov 01 11:58:57 i dont know all of them Nov 01 12:14:54 digikey? Nov 01 12:17:41 for digikey there is Ship Rate: $30 Nov 01 12:17:57 plus custom clearance 140$ Nov 01 12:18:10 the board will cost over 200$ Nov 01 12:18:24 wait what? Nov 01 12:18:30 you pay more customs than the board is worth? Nov 01 12:18:55 * XorA is mildly boggled by that Nov 01 12:19:33 customs apply to any importer Nov 01 12:19:39 digikey or local distri the same Nov 01 12:20:45 ebay? Nov 01 12:35:10 has anybody tried powering the BBB with a Power over ethernet adapter? Nov 01 12:36:30 Should work no problem Nov 01 12:37:00 Do I need at adapter on both ends, or just a power injector Nov 01 12:45:13 both Nov 01 12:45:18 BBB has not POE Nov 01 12:48:45 those 100M limited injectors are cheap Nov 01 12:51:42 or you use the spare lines of a 100M connection.... Nov 01 13:00:32 what about the smart voltage selector? Nov 01 13:01:24 ? Nov 01 13:02:05 Comercial PoE has the ability to tell the power supply what it wants be it 48V,24V, or 12V Nov 01 13:02:44 yes Nov 01 13:02:48 I meant Cheapo Nov 01 13:02:51 I meant Cheapoe Nov 01 13:03:31 What about an extraction device that will take whatever and provide the 5V power the BBB wants? Nov 01 13:03:47 not Cheapoe Nov 01 13:04:38 without checking the specs again, is it not just some resistors, and then maybe a switch mode bucking regulator? Nov 01 13:05:48 no idea Nov 01 13:07:47 the thing I don't like about cheap PoE is what happens when some ignorant asshat plugs in your device to a power injector with no safeguards? Nov 01 13:08:01 * N2TOH doesn't like magic blue smoke Nov 01 13:08:08 if you have a 12V injector, you can use the regulator from one of those car USB power adapters Nov 01 13:08:14 cheap, and mostly-built Nov 01 13:08:48 I like to option of 48 Volt power for long cable runs Nov 01 13:20:46 N2TOH, which PoE will do various voltages? Nov 01 13:21:03 802.3af, afaik is 48V only Nov 01 13:21:42 Hey. Nov 01 13:22:52 bradfa, I'm not 100% I only recall a PoE card access system I worked on years ago that needed to be switched from 12V to 24V so their was enough power getting to the MAG locks Nov 01 13:23:16 N2TOH, oh, ok Nov 01 13:23:26 N2TOH: you get both ends of POE - you get POE injectors and power supplies. You need bothinthis case. Nov 01 13:24:08 all I remember was there were dip switches on the ethernet connected door controller Nov 01 13:24:13 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/24V-48V-Ethernet-Input-5V-Output-DC-DC-Converter-Power-over-Ethernet-POE-/271240962414?pt=UK_Computing_Other_Computing_Networking&hash=item3f2738a16e Nov 01 13:24:40 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/48V-Power-over-Ethernet-POE-injector-Mains-Power-Supply-European-Plug-Lead-/271240875904?pt=UK_Computing_Other_Computing_Networking&hash=item3f27374f80 Nov 01 13:24:57 the system was usually used with "motorized door latches" where we were using maglocks Nov 01 13:25:34 sweet Nov 01 13:25:46 are there any US sellers? Nov 01 13:30:21 N2TOH: I have no idea Nov 01 13:30:31 I just searched 'POE 5V' and 'POE injector' Nov 01 13:31:39 anything technical on ebay is either a scam or not worth buying Nov 01 13:32:49 * KotH bought 3 atomic clocks and they were totally worth it Nov 01 13:33:06 KotH, used soviet equipment is exempt from the rule Nov 01 13:33:32 bradfa: i think that was used us equipment :) Nov 01 13:33:49 bradfa: probably fall out from old base stations Nov 01 13:34:20 * bradfa dreams of chocolate atomic clocks Nov 01 13:34:37 * KotH is about to build one Nov 01 13:35:10 should have super sweet stability :) Nov 01 13:38:23 what type of atomic clock, and how old or noisy is the source? Nov 01 13:39:11 bradfa, what the used soviet stuff is not junk or it is? Nov 01 13:39:12 bradfa: you're an idiot. Nov 01 13:39:35 SpeedEvil, thank you :) Nov 01 13:39:42 N2TOH, it depends Nov 01 13:41:06 if I'm adding no value I'm adding my full value Nov 01 13:41:37 I would not mind a nice atomic clock, but not some 20+ year old pile of radio active junk Nov 01 13:42:03 Atomic clocks are not radioactive. Nov 01 13:42:38 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-MHz-sinewave-FE-5680A-Rubidium-Oscillator-Std-50ohm-/180518264100?pt=US_Ham_Radio_Receivers&hash=item2a07ba1d24 Nov 01 13:45:28 I've bought >300 technical things from ebay, that were in general great value. Nov 01 13:45:44 SpeedEvil, you spend too much time on ebay Nov 01 13:45:52 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281183835132?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 - recently, for example Nov 01 13:46:05 I've been on ebay for ~15y Nov 01 13:46:14 tin foil hat much? Nov 01 13:46:39 Or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151109084161?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Nov 01 13:46:52 SpeedEvil: actually, Cs beam clocks use radio active Cs Nov 01 13:47:27 av500, lead hat Nov 01 13:47:41 SpeedEvil: funny, we just bought the very same last week Nov 01 13:47:45 KotH: No, they don't. Nov 01 13:47:53 though undamaged Nov 01 13:47:57 KotH: They use Cs133 - which is not radioactive Nov 01 13:48:10 av500: the plastic over the display is cracked - I need to replace it in principle. Nov 01 13:48:24 SpeedEvil: bullocks Nov 01 13:48:28 SpeedEvil: Cs-137 Nov 01 13:49:56 KotH: Most sources I find say 133. Why Nov 01 13:52:38 SpeedEvil: meh.. Nov 01 13:52:42 SpeedEvil: you're right 133 Nov 01 13:53:04 * SpeedEvil has succeeded. KotH now knows more stuff! Nov 01 13:53:42 * KotH blames pauli Nov 01 13:53:43 * av500 orders KotH to pay in chocolate! Nov 01 13:55:22 av500: I need to work out how to program it. Nov 01 13:55:37 av500: And connect it to my computer. To do battery testing and other stuff Nov 01 14:00:49 prpogramming is simple Nov 01 14:00:53 guys here do that Nov 01 14:01:15 he just left Nov 01 14:01:24 ping me monday, I might have a code snippet Nov 01 14:47:55 well, that's strange... i got a delock ftdi-based usb/rs232 converter... if i attach it to a usb port directly on the laptop, i get a lot of transmission errors (it seems to insert bytes '0', at least the other station receives them)... if i plug it into a usb port of the dockingstation, it is working fine... there are no other usb devices plugged into the laptop, keyboard/mouse are plugged into the docking station... has anyone heard of t Nov 01 14:47:55 hings like this? Nov 01 14:51:18 could be that your laptop doesnt provide enough power Nov 01 14:52:06 laptops are more strict with how they handle usb power, while desktops and such don't mind if a device violates the usb power specs Nov 01 14:55:01 KotH: thought of this, too... maxpower is set to 90mA... Nov 01 14:55:20 webcams claiming 500mA are working on the same ports, too Nov 01 14:55:40 yes, but does the usb2serial report the power it's actually needing? Nov 01 14:56:05 think "cheap chinese stuff" :) Nov 01 14:56:11 maybe... Nov 01 14:57:34 how much would it need? Nov 01 14:58:26 inrush current can be easily 200mA Nov 01 14:58:33 it's just a ftdi ft232rl, i guess... one of these cheap adapters... maybe the transmitter soldered in there by the nsa draws too much power.... Nov 01 14:58:45 and if that is not provided, then the device might end up in some semi initialized state Nov 01 14:59:03 nothing in dmesg... Nov 01 14:59:59 if it wouldn't be a big thing of rubber, i would open it to see if they left out the capacitors at vcc Nov 01 15:01:39 rubber can be cut Nov 01 15:03:37 unless it to keep things in, instead of keeping you out Nov 01 15:04:48 cuts both ways Nov 01 15:06:25 i'll try a self powered hub Nov 01 15:11:09 same problems with self powered hub Nov 01 15:12:35 * KotH is out of guesses Nov 01 15:14:24 i'm using a null modem cable... ground problems? but everything should have the same ground Nov 01 15:15:24 remove the null modem Nov 01 15:15:26 and do a loopback Nov 01 15:15:29 for a test Nov 01 15:15:55 do you power the bbb from usb or somewhere else? Nov 01 15:15:55 try unlpuggin the laptops power supply Nov 01 15:19:43 ah, sorry, no bbb Nov 01 15:19:59 aaa? Nov 01 15:20:01 ccc? Nov 01 15:20:14 just the laptop Nov 01 15:21:21 i'd say the usb ports are broken Nov 01 15:22:38 so, it's not a beagle problem? Nov 01 15:22:44 nope Nov 01 15:23:08 my fault, wrong channel... but i thought you guys know best of hardware and all this stuff Nov 01 15:23:09 * KotH puts Rotti on the list of people who do ask unrelated questions Nov 01 15:23:15 ;) Nov 01 15:23:37 Rotti: people like av500 know a lot of stuff, i dont ;) Nov 01 15:24:29 bs Nov 01 15:28:12 i just don't like these computers... Nov 01 15:28:57 KotH: let's say, i found this behaviour while playing with the BBB -> question is related again ;) Nov 01 15:30:46 bbl Nov 01 15:31:06 Rotti: that's a poor excuse ;) Nov 01 15:32:06 stop bitching about the learning curve Nov 01 15:33:46 which learning curve? Nov 01 15:34:37 its a straight line Nov 01 15:34:54 a new computing device that people are not already framillure with so the complain about their own ignorance of said device. Nov 01 15:34:59 not so much Nov 01 15:36:06 so what? Nov 01 15:36:09 i do the same Nov 01 15:36:10 often Nov 01 15:36:18 and quite loudly Nov 01 15:36:58 ask poor av500! he has to deal with my bitching every day! Nov 01 15:37:24 my eyes just glaze over Nov 01 15:38:27 see? he even became apathic! Nov 01 15:46:55 wonderland again i see Nov 01 16:00:47 Hi Nov 01 16:07:18 I can connect beagleboard to internet ? Nov 01 16:07:26 With wireless? Nov 01 16:08:57 Yes. Nov 01 16:09:03 Using a USB wireless stick. Nov 01 16:09:45 Ah it dont have wireless module onboard? Nov 01 16:09:52 Correct. Nov 01 16:10:07 And with ethernet? Nov 01 16:10:17 I can connect it to internet? Nov 01 16:12:17 yes. Nov 01 16:12:39 Ok Nov 01 16:13:12 But with linux minimal on site there is already ethernet drive? Nov 01 16:13:37 There is a linux ethernet driver for the onboard ethernet yes. Nov 01 16:14:00 Where is this driver? Nov 01 16:14:16 On kernel? Nov 01 16:16:38 depends on the kernel, but yes just connect it to a router with an available Ethernet port Nov 01 16:17:04 Yes but where i can download this kernel Nov 01 16:17:05 ? Nov 01 16:17:22 enaud: What is your actual question? Nov 01 16:17:30 it should already be installed by default Nov 01 16:17:32 What are you trying to do. Nov 01 16:18:00 Uimage and uboot.bin? Nov 01 16:18:00 Ah ok... Nov 01 16:18:00 I dont have this boatd again Nov 01 16:18:05 I would buy it? Nov 01 16:19:02 I would like buy it Nov 01 16:19:12 But i want some information Nov 01 16:19:27 About it :D Nov 01 16:20:54 It's basically like any other linux system with ethernet. Nov 01 16:21:11 Ok well Nov 01 16:21:45 But it is with a preinstalled ubuntu onboard? Nov 01 16:22:50 No. Nov 01 16:23:40 http://beagleboard.org/Getting%20Started Nov 01 16:26:30 What is the address of the interrupt table on the beaglebone black when running bare metal? Nov 01 16:27:57 Ok i have read it Nov 01 16:28:00 Thanks Nov 01 16:29:07 But angstrom is a linux distro? Nov 01 16:29:49 With graphics desktop? Nov 01 16:33:15 diltsman: TRM is your friend Nov 01 16:35:32 enaud: I believe there is graphical desktop available, but I don't know about the status of accelerated drivers in Angstrom/OpenEmbedded Nov 01 16:35:56 No i want only console, no graphics... Nov 01 16:36:18 On beagle Nov 01 16:37:34 What i must download? Nov 01 16:38:38 enaud: when you buy the board you can download whatever you want to put on it Nov 01 16:38:46 graphics Nov 01 16:38:49 console Nov 01 16:38:50 networking Nov 01 16:38:52 Ahh Nov 01 16:38:57 Welll Nov 01 16:38:59 whatever you wish Nov 01 16:39:33 Then now i buy it Nov 01 16:39:43 which are you looking at buying? Nov 01 16:39:53 beagleboard, beaglebone white, beaglebone black, beagleboard xM? Nov 01 16:44:03 @av500: I have been looking at it for 2 days. It looks like it should be at either 0x00000000 or 0xffff0000 or maybe even 0x00020000. The JTAG adapter and CCS 5.5 along with the .gel file won't let me write to those addresses. Nov 01 16:46:24 av500: I have even modified the .gel file and the .cmd file and nothing works. Nov 01 16:52:34 diltsman the vector table you mean? Nov 01 16:52:55 jackmitchell: beagle back i buy Nov 01 16:53:13 What is difference? Nov 01 16:54:04 anyway look at vbar http://infocenter.arm.com/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.arm.doc.ddi0433b/CIHHDAIH.html Nov 01 16:55:15 diltsman: sorry no idea, the last time I looked at IRQ tables was on an ARM9 Nov 01 17:01:50 enaud: beaglebone black will do what you want Nov 01 17:02:06 it can do network, gui and console Nov 01 17:06:34 I want only console with all driver for internet ethernet gpio serial port Nov 01 17:06:37 Usb port Nov 01 17:06:54 I can? Nov 01 17:07:54 you can Nov 01 17:07:56 its just SW Nov 01 17:09:29 Ok Nov 01 17:09:32 keesj: I want to handle SWI. It looks like I should put the address of my handler at 0x4030ce28 (I just found that after 2 days of searching). But that doesn't take in to account for different SWIs. Nov 01 17:18:09 well it depends on the content of VBAR (the base address) where your interrupts will be handleled. 0x4030ce28 might be the address that u-boot configured (or something else like Code compose studio) Nov 01 17:20:55 I have a small hobyu project currently around doing bare bones programming "away with abtractions". where I try to build up a working system in small steps Nov 01 17:21:00 keesj: I got that from section 26.1.3.2 (RAM Exception Vectors) in the TI manual for the micro. Nov 01 17:21:07 at each step I try to only modify one single thing Nov 01 17:22:18 diltsman: you want to look at the ARM TRM for that info . that address you are using is probably just a handy place where it can be put before the memory is initialized Nov 01 17:22:53 I don't know about your project but if you plan on enabling the MMU later you probably will want to change that address anyway Nov 01 17:25:20 I am sometimes adding steps before (or after) and right now writing a minimal "assembler". Nov 01 17:26:18 The ARM manual puts it at either 0x00000000 or 0xffff0000 depending on SCTLR.V. But CCS won't let me write to either of those locations. Nov 01 17:27:11 I started the work based on http://www.bravegnu.org/gnu-eprog Nov 01 17:29:52 diltsman: you can tweak the css linker script to allow you to write in the low vector Nov 01 17:30:26 If you don't want to change CCS set the vector base address to somewhere where your program gets loaded Nov 01 17:30:58 https://github.com/keesj/A13-OlinuXino-playground/blob/master/bare/06_vector_swi/uart.S#L26 does that (do 0 but this can be anything) Nov 01 17:39:43 keesj: When I do I get "CortxA8: Loader: One or more sections of your program falls into a memory region that is not writable. These regions will not actually be written to the target. Check your linker configuration and/or memory map." from the .gel file. Nov 01 17:41:59 keesj: When I modify the .gel file to allow that memory location, I get "CortxA8: Trouble Writing Memory Block at 0x40300cd0 on Page 0 of Length 0x24: (Error -2130 @ 0x40300CD0) Unable to access device memory. Verify that the memory address is in valid memory. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK). (Emulation package 5.1.232.0) " Nov 01 17:42:32 check the AMsomething in the root directory of you project it contains linker script. Nov 01 17:42:59 AM3359.cmd? Nov 01 17:43:27 I don't have a setup here Nov 01 17:44:14 In SECTIONS I have " .intvecs > 0x00000000" In MEMORY I have " INTS: o = 0x00000000 l = 0x00000080". Nov 01 17:44:39 .intvecs is the section where I have my interrupt table. Nov 01 17:46:06 hmm The first 1MB of address space 0x0-0xFFFFFEx/R/W – Execute/Read/Write. Nov 01 17:46:53 is inaccessibleexternis inaccessibleexternally. Nov 01 17:47:07 sorry folks. Nov 01 17:47:39 this is from the AM335 TRM memory map Nov 01 17:48:58 I don't know what that means. I would suggest chaning VBAR (as I said like a few times now) Nov 01 17:49:15 also if you really want help on CCS related topics this is probably not the channel Nov 01 17:49:52 Thanks. Nov 01 17:52:59 http://e2e.ti.com/support/arm/sitara_arm/f/791/t/158347.aspx gives some answers to your questions Nov 01 19:19:06 hello. i'm interested in making a shield. is there a blank schematics / layout template I can use to get started? Nov 01 19:19:42 it'd be uber convenient to have the pins laid out and their connections already mapped Nov 01 19:19:48 rektide: there are number of capes available under creative commons license, as well as a number of eagle libraries available to start with Nov 01 19:20:19 hi prpplague Nov 01 19:20:26 hi indeed prpplague Nov 01 19:22:47 greetings Nov 01 19:37:44 anyone have suggestions for unpopulated protoboard sources? Nov 01 19:47:24 adafruit's $10 proto cape looks about right for me- http://www.adafruit.com/products/572 Nov 01 19:47:53 rektide: there are a number of them from adafruit, seeedstudio, logic supply and boardzoo.com Nov 01 20:09:51 rektide: usually I just make my own using perfboard and pin headers (in general, haven't done one for BBB) Nov 01 23:08:34 rektide: Ada also has eagle files for a blank cape on her github Nov 01 23:10:21 just use the SRM to get teh locations Nov 01 23:21:00 has anyone here used the beaglebone black as a home router/firewall. The only issue would be the usb to cat5 connected to the hub - would that slow it down at all? Nov 01 23:21:40 I've google around and a lot of people have done it on the rpi, not much talk of doing it on the beaglebone however Nov 01 23:28:32 lugub: I think I have a friend who's done that, and he said it worked way better than it did on the RPi--the ethernet bus on the RPi is on top of USB, but he said that on the BBB it's a separate bus Nov 01 23:28:39 so it's not pegging the CPU as much Nov 01 23:29:56 jpfau: thanks, ah that sounds great. something to look into further Nov 01 23:31:22 did he have any issues with the cat5 to usb cable having to go through a usb hub as well? Nov 01 23:31:30 (if that's what he did) Nov 01 23:31:47 I'm not sure what a cat5 to usb cable would be useful for in this case? Nov 01 23:32:10 he was using it for routing, not switching, so he didn't need a second ethernet interface, if that's what you're talking about Nov 01 23:32:17 I'm not sure how he handled NATing though Nov 01 23:35:49 yeah I mean a second ethernet interface. What I'd like to do is go modem > beaglebone (firewall, router etc) > wireless router. but don't use the wireless router as an actual router, just use it as a wireless accesspoint Nov 01 23:36:24 I dunno then. That might be a bit intensive Nov 01 23:36:28 ah ok Nov 01 23:36:56 I've read of people doing that on the rpi, thought it would work alright/similar Nov 01 23:36:56 Might want to stick around and see if anyone else has advice though Nov 01 23:37:18 if it works on the RPi, I'd imagine it should work fine on the BBB Nov 01 23:38:15 ok cheers Nov 01 23:38:57 yeah, thats what I thought. the only difference is the rpi has 2 usb ports, whereas the bbb as 1, so if you were using a usb hub the ethernet adapter would have to go through the hub as well Nov 02 00:04:30 * georgem_home (possibly through influence of craft beer) feels an urge to cause trouble Nov 02 00:59:14 helloo Nov 02 01:00:34 hi Nov 02 01:01:43 ho Nov 02 01:07:38 heyo Nov 02 01:27:01 Dang, I thought I'd be getting my BBB tomorrow (Saturday) along with the accessories I've purchased, turns out Priority Overnight excludes Saturday. So I have to wait until Monday. Bummer. Nov 02 02:13:57 yarr! I have acquired a BB black, and I'm having trouble running finding the webserver. Does the BBB expect to be mounted to a specific place on my filesystem? I typically mount things to a subdirectory in /home//mnt - maybe it doesn't like this? Nov 02 02:14:43 (I am running linux) Nov 02 02:24:04 what does mounting it have to do with webserver? Nov 02 02:33:25 i have zero ideas. That's the only reason I can think of that I can't access the 192.168.7.2 thingy Nov 02 02:33:43 (I did update the udev rules) Nov 02 02:39:43 Hello I am trying to create an Internet Share on the beaglebone black but iptables doesn’t work on angstrom linux, it errors out with “iptables v1.4.15: can't initialize iptables table nat” when trying to create a nat Nov 02 02:39:55 Is there a way around this? Nov 02 02:40:56 I am also fine with installing Ubuntu or Debian on the beaglebone black but I want to know for sure that iptables works before switching Nov 02 02:46:02 Also is there a way to see what version of angstrom I have installed, I may not being using the latest version. Can't remember when I updated it. Nov 02 02:58:20 Need help. I have a Beaglebone Black and I want to control 8 digital servo motors independently. Can I use the PWM pins to do that? There are 8 PWM pins but I could get only 4 working. Someone suggested to use Adafruit's 16 channel Servo Driver. But it may be used only to drive analog servos. Is there any way I can drive the digital servos using the driver? Better, can I use just BBB directly? Thanks whoever can help. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Nov 02 02:59:57 2013
