**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sat Jan 18 02:59:59 2014 Jan 18 03:00:34 So, based on my experience, anything with a RealTek RTL8291CU chipset just doesn't work. I cannot get the adapter to associate to any network, using either the 3.8.13 kernel drivers, or the 4.0.2_9000 drivers from RealTek. It works to the extent that you can scan the available APs and such, but it simply will NOT be coerced into associating. Jan 18 03:02:26 jcw_: I dunno what all you have tried, but in my experience the beaglebone would not associated with a wifi network while I had it plugged in via ethernet Jan 18 03:03:19 but, the setting up wifi really sucked even when I got it working, and I was using a pre-3.8(I think? pre dev tree) kernel Jan 18 03:03:41 I have had an ethernet cable connected when testing, but while it may not route, it SHOULD associate. That's not to guarantee it will, though. Jan 18 03:04:38 I don't know if this is still the case, but the conman stuff would someone just shut the wifi down as long as the ethernet was plugged in Jan 18 03:04:46 conman was terrible Jan 18 03:06:02 But let's say that's the case... I originally played with the PC USB port when I had Angstrom loaded. I've converted these BBBs to Debian, and plugging them into the Windoze box, it doesn't find a driver (which I think was on the Angstrom build). What do I need on Windoze to connect serially via the USB port (damn, but I miss good old fashioned RS232 serial ports) Jan 18 05:42:38 anyone dere? Jan 18 07:45:52 Hi.. Im using BBB with ubuntu 13.04 saucy running.. my USB is not getting detected.. tried booting with the USB device plugged in..then also it din reflect Jan 18 07:46:00 can someone help on this Jan 18 07:50:03 beagle13: how are you powering the board? Jan 18 11:53:19 yesyes, more patience Jan 18 11:56:29 that kernel should be recent enough Jan 18 11:56:40 no idea what goes wrong there Jan 18 12:00:56 i can share ssh of bbb and source code of driver which i try to load.. Jan 18 13:26:44 question: in job interview will i likely be asked to explain details about past projects at school? e.g.. image processing scripts but i can't seem to recall the equations and stuff but i know the concepts used: spline/bicubic interpolation Jan 18 13:57:51 hi, is there any java gpio lib out there which i can use on the beaglebone black? Jan 18 15:28:50 this is on ubuntu Jan 18 15:28:51 yeah I think it will come up Jan 18 15:28:51 it also fails to recognize when I unplug it Jan 18 15:28:51 so it does not remove the route Jan 18 15:29:21 Ok, well that looks as strange to me as it probably does to you, my only advice would be to try another cable? Jan 18 15:30:11 but there's no cable and it still tries dhcpclient Jan 18 15:30:29 also Jan 18 15:30:30 I removed usb0 from /etc/network/interfaces Jan 18 15:30:30 Um Jan 18 15:30:30 but it is still there Jan 18 15:30:33 Oh Jan 18 15:30:35 and even configured Jan 18 15:30:39 where does it get the ip from Jan 18 15:31:16 Then I'm out of tips -_- sorry Jan 18 15:31:26 BBB? Jan 18 15:32:51 bb white Jan 18 15:32:51 another thing Jan 18 15:32:55 I added my dtbo to /boot/uBoot/uEnv.txt Jan 18 15:33:05 and it shows in dmesg and syslog tryiong to load but fails Jan 18 15:33:32 but if I do echo mydtbo > /sys/devices/bone_capemgr.8/slots it works Jan 18 15:33:54 after it booted Jan 18 15:33:56 this used to work on angstrom but fails on ubuntu Jan 18 15:34:04 That may require a forum post to get all of the bugs together for someone to look over, idk Jan 18 15:34:17 also, on ubuntu I can't recompile my dts because it is missing the -@ option Jan 18 15:47:09 What is the best battery power option if I want 12 hours of battery life Jan 18 16:27:23 hi Jan 18 16:27:24 anyone can help me about how to boot from mmc ubuntu saucy Jan 18 16:27:24 pls Jan 18 16:27:24 i am hard noob about beagle black :))) Jan 18 16:27:25 anyone :) Jan 18 16:27:25 you following the wiki guide? Jan 18 16:52:29 I would like something that is both a battery pack and usb hub that works with the beagle bone black Jan 18 16:52:54 so you have battery to run the beagle off of, and a powered usb hub built in Jan 18 17:05:58 how to read the AIN pins from java? is there a library i can use? Jan 18 17:44:34 anyone? Jan 18 17:47:46 Well, sysfs exists. Jan 18 17:47:50 And Java knows how to talk with files. Jan 18 17:47:51 i've tried doing it via the filesystem, but that is a) very unstable, sometimes it throws an IO error, b) very slow and c) doesn't give me the raw data, but some base10 string of a milliVolts value, discarding all the 4096 resolution of the ADC Jan 18 17:47:53 Pretty sure you are looking at the wrong file then. Jan 18 17:47:53 One of the files in sysfs has the raw ADC reading. Jan 18 17:48:03 that the only one i could find: /sys/devices/ocp.2/helper.13/AIN4 Jan 18 17:48:30 /sys/devices/platform/tsc/ain? should be what you want. Jan 18 17:49:11 Er, /sys/devices/platform/omap/tsc/ain?, if you are on 3.2.14 or higher. Jan 18 17:49:12 let me check Jan 18 17:49:49 well, there is no /sys/devices/platform/omap folder to begin with :( Jan 18 17:50:20 im using the newest angstom release Jan 18 17:50:36 Linux beaglebone 3.8.13 #1 SMP Wed Sep 4 09:09:32 CEST 2013 armv7l GNU/Linux Jan 18 17:50:38 Right, OK, so which board are you using? Jan 18 17:50:53 beaglebone black, A5V Jan 18 17:50:54 *A5C Jan 18 17:50:58 Ah,. see, there is the problem. Jan 18 17:51:14 The beaglebone black uses Device Tree instead of sysfs. Jan 18 17:51:48 so what do i need to do? Jan 18 17:52:10 Ask someone who has worked with the beaglebone black and device tree. Jan 18 17:52:33 That someone is not me--all my work has been on the stack of white beaglebones I have. Jan 18 17:52:49 dont know one, need to wait until someone speaks up here :) Jan 18 17:52:54 Yup. Jan 18 17:52:58 Best of luck. Jan 18 17:53:30 thanks Jan 18 18:50:00 agmlego, i found another location: /sys/devices/ocp.2/44e0d000.tscadc/tiadc/iio:device0/in_voltage0_raw this is giving me (still base10 encoded) the full 12bit resolution of inputs Jan 18 18:51:26 but i have another problem. while reading, i create a FileInputStream each time and read 5 bytes, then close it. this takes much time, so i'd like to reuse the FileInputStream, but on subsequent reads, it only outputs 0-bytes Jan 18 18:52:28 Right, because you go to the end of the file. Jan 18 18:52:29 also it doesnt seem like it's possible to rewind the file, since it's no file in the classical sense Jan 18 18:52:32 *got to Jan 18 18:52:47 Yeah, the Internet says that is how you have to do it. Jan 18 18:53:16 is FileInputStream the wrong approach? Jan 18 18:53:31 No idea. I am not a java programmer. Jan 18 18:53:40 oh i see Jan 18 18:54:27 I can help in general cases, but getting into specifics like that? It has been too many years since I did anything with Java. Jan 18 18:54:41 My interests and ability these days lies in C and Python. Jan 18 18:55:39 ok, thanks anyway. ill figure it out somehow Jan 18 18:56:18 Again, best of luck. Jan 18 18:56:23 What are you trying to do, anyway? Jan 18 18:57:52 im building a datalogger for a custom built seismometer Jan 18 18:58:13 Did you check thatt he ADC itself was fast enough for your purposes? IIRC, they are pretty slow since they are on the chip for resistive touchscreens. Jan 18 18:59:03 yes it is. i read on another site, they did some testing and found it to be a few nanoseconds per scan Jan 18 18:59:17 im currently aiming for 1000 samples per second Jan 18 19:00:12 YOu may have to investiagte other interfaces then. Jan 18 19:00:12 thats the page i mentioned: http://beaglebone.cameon.net/home/reading-the-analog-inputs-adc Jan 18 19:00:57 no it's fine. 1ms sampletime is feasable with my (much overhead) java soution Jan 18 19:01:17 Oh, so you are currently able to do what you want? Jan 18 19:01:31 kinda, yes Jan 18 19:02:23 Ah. Jan 18 20:01:59 Jan 18 20:32:51 Hello All Jan 18 20:56:42 hi Jan 18 21:13:36 Hi everyone Jan 18 21:13:37 I've recently bought a beaglebone for a project called OpenROV Jan 18 21:13:37 During my tests, I've experienced an issue with my beaglebone Jan 18 21:13:37 When I connect the beablbone to the computer the power led light on, but not the users led Jan 18 21:13:38 the users leds stay off Jan 18 21:13:38 do you have any idea what I've done wrong ? Jan 18 21:14:19 maybe the eMMC corrupted Jan 18 21:14:28 or you messed with the sysboot pins Jan 18 21:16:52 Hi tbr Jan 18 21:16:52 Is there a way to fix that ? Jan 18 21:16:53 you could reflash the eMMC Jan 18 21:16:53 or boot from microsd Jan 18 21:17:23 I think I've already tried to reflash the eMMC, but it didn't work Jan 18 21:18:22 Do you have a tutorial on how to do that ? I could try again just to be sure Jan 18 21:18:38 no, I'm sure there is one though Jan 18 21:18:38 it's just download image, uncompress, write to sdcard Jan 18 21:22:50 A last question, what do you thing is a best image to take ? http://downloads.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beaglebone/ Jan 18 21:23:10 Is the BBB-eMMC-flasher-2013.09.12.img.xz good ? Jan 18 23:17:00 hi Jan 18 23:17:10 how can i unload the "5: ff:P-O-L Bone-Black-HDMI,00A0,Texas Instrument,BB-BONELT-HDMI" overlay? Jan 18 23:17:31 echo -5 > /sys/devices/bone_capemgr.8/slots crashes the kernel Jan 18 23:17:46 may custom overlay needs pins which are currently claimed by the hdmi overlay Jan 18 23:18:01 s/may/my Jan 18 23:20:05 if unloading does not work, how can i blacklist it? Jan 18 23:29:09 Hi, I understand BBB are produced around the clock. Nonetheless delivery dates in Germany are continously slipping - before christmas, 15th of January, 7th of February... Jan 18 23:29:18 looks like https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/beagleboard/1dluTWZ5AEA/Ddzm6aWCPF8J is what i need Jan 18 23:30:37 This makes me fear, that after February dtes will slip to march . wich is actually indicated already on one page. Jan 18 23:32:14 Ho reliable are Circuitco delivery statements in the end? Jan 18 23:47:43 hey everyone - I have a question about some odd boot behavior re: USB on ubuntu Jan 18 23:47:49 for BBB Jan 18 23:48:30 works fine when powered by the DC jack but dies during boot when powered by USB? Jan 18 23:48:44 If I have a device plugged in when I boot my BBB then it doesn't recognize the port at all Jan 18 23:49:04 but if I wait to plug in the device until it has fully booted then it recognizes it fine Jan 18 23:49:26 and if I do have it plugged in when BBB boots up and then unplug and replug later it still never finds it Jan 18 23:49:30 oh, not what Iwas thinking at all. Jan 18 23:49:32 as if the port doesn't exist Jan 18 23:49:49 no idea.. heh. lurk a while until someone with a clue wanders in :) Jan 18 23:50:09 haha ok - thanks for trying! Jan 18 23:54:40 I will have to try booting it first, as I as well have had trouble getting the USB interface to with with my Ununtu workstation Jan 19 00:18:36 Hi all. Are the images on http://beagleboard.org/latest-images really the latest? I thought I saw some more recent but cannot find them anymore... Jan 19 00:21:36 For example: I can see BBB-eMMC-flasher-2013.09.12.img.xz at the following: http://downloads.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beaglebone/ Jan 19 00:22:29 However the "latest-images" on the official sites has a BBB eMMC flasher of 2013.09.04... Jan 19 00:26:11 There is also BBB-eMMC-flasher-v2013.06-2013.11.20.img.xz ... Jan 19 01:17:23 Anyone in the UK got a working BBB they want to sell? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sun Jan 19 02:59:59 2014
