**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Nov 29 03:01:03 2015 Nov 29 03:18:19 set_ no i just use it to run an OS and simple services Nov 29 03:27:05 Okay. Nov 29 03:27:12 Thank you for making me understand. Nov 29 05:20:48 Is this the right channel for BeagleBone Black? If it is, why did the change the default distro from Angstrom to Ubuntu? Nov 29 05:22:38 Hmmm...I can guess. Nov 29 05:23:06 I guess that it is b/c Ang. had a lot of extra parts to their file tree. Nov 29 05:23:32 I am not the creator. I really can only guess. Nov 29 05:25:44 too bad I cannot find an explanation of why the decision by googling Nov 29 05:25:57 Shoot...what do you need? Nov 29 05:26:18 just wanted to know the reason of the switch that is all Nov 29 05:26:22 Oh...you need to know. Nov 29 05:26:52 Okay. Maybe contacting one of those people with the "@" before their name will help. Nov 29 05:26:58 more than a want than a need Nov 29 05:27:14 I understand. I wanted to know too. I just let it go. Nov 29 05:27:29 Ang. can be built from the ground up if that is what you desire. Nov 29 05:27:43 I see probably when they wake up they will read my mesage Nov 29 05:28:00 Ha...yea. Most likely. Nov 29 05:28:10 They have logs, too. Nov 29 05:28:21 cool Nov 29 05:28:34 Newbie, how do you use your BBB? Nov 29 05:28:57 I haven't used it much yet Nov 29 05:29:11 I am planning to though Nov 29 05:29:26 Oh...they all sorts of stuff online about the BBB, i.e. beagleboard.org, github.com, and wikis. Nov 29 05:29:41 oh yeah that is for sure Nov 29 05:29:48 I got me a huge book about it Nov 29 05:29:52 I keep finding more and more. Nov 29 05:29:52 on amazon Nov 29 05:30:33 I found some too. I have that "Make" book. Nov 29 05:30:50 It was $10.00. Hard to beat that! Nov 29 05:30:58 for sure Nov 29 05:31:15 Newbie, have you attempted any items out of your book? Nov 29 05:31:59 I got stuck on a couple of items because of the date of things. Nov 29 05:32:24 Some start-up companies started to charge instead of having free services. Nov 29 05:32:42 ... Nov 29 05:32:44 I am cheap. Nov 29 05:34:55 I haven't done much at all Nov 29 05:35:19 just bought the book and a serial cable Nov 29 05:35:25 oh I got me a JTAG Nov 29 05:35:32 Me neither. I got some stuff done. I lit a light, got my code to send e-mails, and built a bot. Nov 29 05:35:34 JTAG? Nov 29 05:35:43 and soldered the JTAG adapter to it too Nov 29 05:35:52 Newbie, you are my hero! Nov 29 05:35:59 How many pins? Nov 29 05:36:13 hmm... don't remember like 12 I think Nov 29 05:36:18 Damn! Nov 29 05:36:19 or less Nov 29 05:36:37 I am looking for a JTAG with 12-pin, two-row. Nov 29 05:37:00 All of the second row needs to GND, though. Nov 29 05:37:29 i.e. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12. Nov 29 05:37:45 oh it was 20 pins Nov 29 05:37:49 Damn. Nov 29 05:37:54 So close! Nov 29 05:37:56 10 pins per row Nov 29 05:38:09 Oh. What type of JTAG do you use? Nov 29 05:38:24 BlackHawk? They have good prices. Nov 29 05:38:33 I don Nov 29 05:38:40 I don't have it with me right now Nov 29 05:38:47 Oh. Okay. Nov 29 05:38:48 it is one made by TI Nov 29 05:39:33 I think TI.com sells specific models. I did not know they made JTAG for the BBW. Nov 29 05:39:33 TI USB100v2 Nov 29 05:40:32 That is cool. You will be able to connect mostly anything, I guess. Nov 29 05:41:16 yup this device lets you use TI's Code Composer Studio for free Nov 29 05:41:21 DSP, ARM, and etc... Nov 29 05:41:23 with it Nov 29 05:41:51 Oh. Yea. I think I saw that one. It supports CCS 4.0 and promised to support their future CCS titles. Nov 29 05:41:58 not that I will be doing much bare metal stuff but wanted to play with it Nov 29 05:42:06 for debugging the linux kernel Nov 29 05:42:16 Yep. Nov 29 05:43:08 I also got me the hdmi mini to regular size hdmi adapter cable Nov 29 05:43:32 Oh. Can you port sound out of that? Nov 29 05:44:06 I need to get a new sound adaptor for my BBB. Nov 29 05:44:07 connected the beaglebone black to my 65" Samsung TV and got a resolution of 1920 x 1080 @24Hz don't remember if is 1080i or 1080p Nov 29 05:44:48 I do not know the difference but that is cool. I am still "e-learning" the file directories and commands. Nov 29 05:45:01 I did not play any video or sound though. I just did this like 2 hours ago Nov 29 05:45:26 Cool...I like me some bandwidth. Nov 29 05:45:30 Ha! Nov 29 05:45:49 yeah, I know what you mean Nov 29 05:46:16 Okay. All jokes aside, I still need to find a 12-pin, two-row header (board to wire). Nov 29 05:46:27 0.05" and all... Nov 29 05:46:40 Do you know where I may find one? Nov 29 05:53:46 12-pin? sorry I don't Nov 29 05:54:49 I think I may have a lead but I am not sure yet. Nov 29 05:54:59 I have to wait on a reply. Dang replies. Nov 29 05:57:02 well, time to go to bed for me Nov 29 05:57:11 1:00am here Nov 29 05:57:39 Okay...have fun. Nov 29 05:57:47 u2 Nov 29 05:57:52 gnight Nov 29 05:57:54 Thank you, sir. Nov 29 05:58:31 BBB! Nov 29 11:22:41 0.05 headers man...Do they or do they not? Nov 29 11:22:42 Heh? Nov 29 11:22:44 Sheesh! Nov 29 11:25:02 Do not worry. I will keep looking. Nov 29 11:43:26 Does the BBB have any JP2 power jumpers? Nov 29 11:55:17 For you professionals out there, yes you, I need some help. Forget everything I have typed in the past. This is what matters... Nov 29 11:55:44 What does G, R, T, V, and JP1/JP2 mean with MCUs? Nov 29 11:56:01 Serious. Nov 29 11:58:43 I mean...probably G = GND and V = VIN but the rest. What in the hell? Nov 29 12:05:10 Okay... Nov 29 12:05:15 Just R and T? Nov 29 12:29:29 no context, no answer Nov 29 12:30:56 tbr! Nov 29 12:31:10 Okay...I need a real man. Nov 29 12:31:15 One with knowledge! Nov 29 12:31:19 ask on craigslist Nov 29 12:31:19 It is you...okay. Nov 29 12:31:22 Damn. Nov 29 12:31:40 I am the only person in trendnet and no one is showing up. Nov 29 12:31:54 I have a MCU (microcontroller unit). Nov 29 12:32:17 Secondly, there are six through-holes. Nov 29 12:33:01 One = G, Two = R, Three = T, Four = V, and then two both marked JP2. Nov 29 12:33:33 I think G could stand for grid or GND. Nov 29 12:33:34 provide more information about the MCU Nov 29 12:33:40 and about the board that it's on Nov 29 12:33:52 Okay. Nov 29 12:34:15 I have Ethernet, 5v power supply, and a 3.5mm jack. Nov 29 12:34:31 I have a big SoC called Grain. Nov 29 12:35:06 There are actually two boards that fit together but I am mainly concerned with this board. It is the "mother ship." Nov 29 12:35:24 you're being still much too vague Nov 29 12:35:28 ...It was a cloud camera. Nov 29 12:35:45 I could watch my house on the web from wherever. Nov 29 12:36:02 post pictures of those boards, both top and botom side Nov 29 12:36:10 Okay. Pastebin? Nov 29 12:36:19 imgur? Nov 29 12:36:24 imgur! Nov 29 12:36:26 Okay. Nov 29 12:41:25 It is taking a while. Please hold. Nov 29 12:44:48 tbr: http://imgur.com/a/ipNL0 Nov 29 12:50:03 no idea what this is Nov 29 12:51:26 It is a board. Nov 29 12:51:48 It is not a BBB but it is similar, i.e. just with less GPIO. Nov 29 12:51:56 It has six GPIO. Nov 29 12:52:47 tbr: It is not time to quit. Help a brother and a pat on the back is in store. Nov 29 12:53:15 no, it's a custom board, with an ASIC and some unknown circuitry, also the PCB is damaged Nov 29 12:53:37 tbr: The PCB is damaged but it is in good shape. Nov 29 12:53:43 I ripped off the screw. Nov 29 12:53:48 Sort of... Nov 29 12:54:19 It is opensource. Nov 29 12:54:22 can you read the markings on the IC marked G-Rain? I need all of them Nov 29 12:54:26 what is open source? Nov 29 12:54:33 Okay. Yea... Nov 29 12:54:39 It is an opensource board. Nov 29 12:54:40 Now! Nov 29 12:54:55 please point to its documentation and schematics then Nov 29 12:54:55 It is from trendnet and this model is now opensource. Nov 29 12:55:00 Okay. Nov 29 12:55:21 Actually, I checked. They only have the software in a .tar file. Nov 29 12:55:45 There is not an actual schematic on it. Nov 29 12:55:52 At least, I cannot get it now. Nov 29 12:56:41 link to the tar-ball? Nov 29 12:58:38 Grain: GMB125TF QCKQS1C-000 CS1418 Nov 29 12:58:49 Okay...I will get the .tar file. Nov 29 13:00:04 TV-IP762IC @ http://www.trendnet.com/support/gpl.asp Nov 29 13:05:29 Two of the chips are too small to make out what is stated. There is one more chip that I think I can make out. Nov 29 13:05:43 Nope...too small. Nov 29 13:06:24 <<< investing in a Magnified Glass. Nov 29 13:06:41 so why did you destroy the camera? Nov 29 13:07:07 I took it apart because their instruction did not work the millionth time. Nov 29 13:07:29 I decided to take it apart and it Bang, Splash, Pow. Nov 29 13:07:47 That chip on the board is just a screw hole. Nov 29 13:08:29 at least one top trace was destroyed, no telling what happened to the middle layers around that area Nov 29 13:08:39 Oh...dang. Nov 29 13:09:27 I think I have a couple of ideas on what those letters mean. Nov 29 13:10:32 my guess as to the connector outline next to JP2 is: it's a UART port Nov 29 13:10:48 which needs at minimum: Ground, Rx, Tx Nov 29 13:11:13 and in this case might include a reference voltage pin Nov 29 13:11:17 G = power/grid, R = resistance/received, T = tesla, V = volt/electrical potential, and the JP2 = power jumpers. Nov 29 13:11:24 Oh. Nov 29 13:13:08 no, really, just no. Nov 29 13:13:32 Just no? Okay. Nov 29 13:14:00 I just looked up abbreviations on the net and that is what came up under electrical def. abb. Nov 29 13:14:29 You might want to get yourself some books and start to learn about basic electronics and such Nov 29 13:14:51 I am learning slowly. I have a couple. Nov 29 13:15:15 It could be GND and VIN for the G and V. Nov 29 13:15:47 Oh well...I am sorry to bother you with all that stuff. Nov 29 13:16:07 Can someone say, "Pet Project?" Ha! Nov 29 13:16:11 Hahahhahaha. Nov 29 13:16:51 tbr: all jokes aside, I am shutting this mother down. Nov 29 13:16:53 Have fun! Nov 29 13:56:39 join Nov 29 13:57:15 how to load Indigo ROS on BeagleboneBlack Nov 29 13:58:28 vkganeshk: have you tried their website? they might even provide #exactsteps Nov 29 13:59:25 yes, i tried the steps from wiki.ros.org/indigo/installation/debian Nov 29 14:01:24 $ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://pool.sks-keyservers.net --recv-key 0xB01FA116 Nov 29 14:03:50 when i enter it in debian@beaglebone:~$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://pool.sks-keyservers.net --recv-key 0xB01FA116 Nov 29 14:05:02 i receive the message as "gpg: requesting key B01FA116 from hkp server pool.sks-keyservers.net ?: pool.sks-keyservers.net: Host not found gpgkeys: HTTP fetch error 7: couldn't connect: No such file or directory gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found." Nov 29 14:05:35 how to resolve this gpg error to proceed further Nov 29 15:01:01 has anyone tried booting armmp kernels from stock debian on a bbb? i'm seeing am335x stuff amongst the package's files Nov 29 16:03:42 zq: should work, make sure you use a DT that matches the kernel Nov 29 16:20:32 tbr: dt as in dtb? Nov 29 16:20:51 yes Nov 29 16:21:22 tbr: i've actually tried it. wrote it to the rootfs partition of the latest wheezy image from debian. couldn't get it to boot. Nov 29 16:21:54 any messages after u-boot? Nov 29 16:22:28 how could i find these messages? Nov 29 16:24:36 over the serial console? Nov 29 16:24:36 yes Nov 29 16:24:36 let me check Nov 29 19:18:16 hi **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Nov 29 22:09:09 2015 Nov 30 02:41:45 Hi all. New to the chat. I've got a BBB that won't boot. I used to have debian on it with a little server, but it's been sitting on my desk unpowered for over a year. The power LED comes on, but none of the user LEDs light up. I've tried booting from Flash, but no luck. Any recommendations? Nov 30 02:46:46 Yea man...start from scratch. Nov 30 02:48:05 Get your new image and stick the SD card into the board and let it do its thing. Nov 30 02:48:22 Ah, yeah, I tried that too, but no dice Nov 30 02:49:11 Okay. Just wait. I am sure there will be other around soon. Nov 30 02:49:26 Ok, thanks Nov 30 02:52:42 I was thinking about it. Nov 30 02:53:17 Did you go the beagleboard.org and go to the Debian image site wiki? Nov 30 02:55:11 I am asking because I have had this issue. I had to connect Ethernet, power over USB, and have the SD card in to allow for the board to shut down. Nov 30 02:55:48 Once it shutdown, the image was final. I did not hold down the boot button either. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Nov 30 03:00:50 2015
