**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sat Sep 30 03:00:02 2017 Sep 30 03:18:54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjNX_3jJt-E Sep 30 03:25:34 I got a new pocketbeagle, put bone-debian-9.1-iot-armhf-2017-09-26-4gb.img on an sdcard and plugged it into a usb port on my pc. usr0 and usr1 led lights turn on which I guess is a good thing? the board does not show up on the pc usb port as a device or anything. I tried plugging a usb-serial pins 2-3 in us0 tx/rx and pin 5 to a ground pin, tried a terminal at 115200 and get a bunch of noise. Sep 30 03:26:02 Are the levels on the serial wrong? did I fry it by trying a raw rs232? where is the terminal? why aren't there any instructions anywhere? Sep 30 03:27:10 BTW bbb.io/boot and bbb.io/start from the topic are blank pages, and bbb.io/latest, contrary to the card that comes with the pocketbeagle, has absolutely no links to get to download images. Only way I even found an image was from a completely tangential forum post by some random person Sep 30 03:28:11 Open Source and Free Software come at a heavy price. Be patient. Serious. It took a while for me to do stuff too. Sep 30 03:30:01 patience implies something is forthcoming, I don't even see any sign of that Sep 30 03:30:16 Okay. Sep 30 03:30:24 Hold please, let me check the site. Sep 30 03:31:14 https://beagleboard.org/ may have just been updated. Sep 30 03:32:04 I see the site now has that device you were discussing. Sep 30 03:32:56 other than a picture, a link where to buy it, and a link to the wiki on github, there is exactly zilch. Sep 30 03:33:13 Oh? Let me check again. Sep 30 03:33:13 the wiki on github has an faq with like 5 questions Sep 30 03:33:20 and that's it Sep 30 03:33:26 I think it is new. Sep 30 03:33:28 there isn't even a forum topic for it Sep 30 03:33:34 hence why I'm on IRC Sep 30 03:33:39 Start here and be patient. Sep 30 03:33:54 I am nobody. I just keep up the learning side. Sep 30 03:36:49 Did you try google groups? Here: https://groups.google.com/forum/embed/?place=forum%2Fbeagleboard&showsearch=true&showpopout=true&showtabs=false&hideforumtitle=true&parenturl=https%3A%2F%2Fbeagleboard.org%2Fdiscuss&afterlogin=#!forum/beagleboard/categories Sep 30 03:37:01 ... Sep 30 03:37:05 Sorry for the long link. Sep 30 03:40:52 like I said, there is no forum for the pocketbeagle yet Sep 30 03:41:02 Oh...new stuff! Sep 30 03:41:11 New stuff takes a while to get online. Sep 30 03:41:15 I consider it kind of rude to offer suggestions without checking them yourself first Sep 30 03:41:39 Sorry...I got a feeling. Sep 30 03:42:06 Guts! Sep 30 03:42:48 Back to the BBB! how long have you owned your current bone? Sep 30 03:44:04 I got a BBB years ago but never did anything with it, have no idea where it is, but it is vastly different from the pocketbeagle Sep 30 03:44:55 I understand. I can research the pocketbeagle more before I discuss it with you. Sep 30 03:45:21 ...be back in a shake of BBB. I know. Sep 30 03:46:53 https://github.com/beagleboard/pocketbeagle/wiki/FAQ Sep 30 03:47:07 I found this FAQ. Sounds like a like to digest. Sep 30 03:47:11 Please hold. Sep 30 03:49:20 That site has all sort of info. You may need that tiny USB if you are going to power it. Let me read more. Sep 30 03:51:07 If you are going to tether your bone, use the Adafruit MicroUSB. Sep 30 04:04:55 It's powering up I just need to find out how to access the serial console Sep 30 04:06:02 I am just learning about the PocketBone. I am just some person in this community. I can try to learn more but I like the older (HOPEFULLY never legacy) systems for now. Sep 30 04:06:06 the obvious thing would be to default it to the USB connector that comes with it since that's what every other board in the history of boards does, it's also sort of kind of what it sounds like the skimpy documentation implies, but does not seem to work Sep 30 04:07:44 Oh and...I think the board needs Click Boards for now to access Internet. Sep 30 04:09:03 https://groups.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!msg/beagleboard/JtOGZb-FH2A/9GVu7I6kAQAJ is some other stuff. Let me read more into it. Sep 30 04:14:30 I'm not really concerned with accessing internet at the moment, just the serial console Sep 30 04:16:52 Serial, please hold. Sep 30 04:17:55 WIP (Work in Progress)/From: https://github.com/beagleboard/pocketbeagle/wiki/Software-status Sep 30 04:18:37 ...I think those fellows and gals are trying to produce a product as we speak and make things run extra smooth. Sep 30 04:20:26 The BBBlue came out similarly. It was a typo, to a well-rounded machine, to a flying bone! Sep 30 04:20:43 If someone sends one to space, we are in like flint! Sep 30 04:21:23 ...Sounds silly. I know. Sep 30 04:21:42 I lived through years of the BBB.io people doing things and making accessible items available. Sep 30 04:21:52 Bone! Sep 30 06:32:06 I figured out what issue was keeping me from using the OLED display. yea boy! Sep 30 06:33:41 Bragging and Dragging! Sep 30 08:44:19 saranix: what kind of usb serial adapter are you using? I do hope it's 3.3v Sep 30 08:45:56 saranix: also, unlike the BBB, the pocketbone doesn't have any protection or isolation on the serial console... they're just two processor pins that are directly exposed, just like the rest of the digital I/O, so it's not actually safe to connect it to a serial cable before the pocketbone is powered Sep 30 08:47:16 so, unless you specifically need the serial console, it's safer to use usb (where you also get a console once the system has booted) Sep 30 12:34:20 zmatt: I know yesterday we were talking about the BBGW and the 96x96 OLED display. Sep 30 12:34:23 ... Sep 30 12:34:35 I found that the software needs support. Sep 30 12:40:31 e.g. Oled = Adafruit_I2C(0x3c, 2) instead of Oled = Adafruit_I2C(0x3c), respectively. Sep 30 13:08:09 specifying the right i2c bus will help yes Sep 30 20:11:54 has anyone used any of the beagle boards as X / GLX device from a PC linux box? I was thinking that might be a useful function (IE display extender). **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sun Oct 01 03:00:01 2017
