Dec 27 03:01:10 i hope n900 is better than mine Dec 27 03:01:58 around $150 cis heap? or expensive? Dec 27 03:02:02 * Dhraakellian wonders if plasma-active is still considered viable on the n900 Dec 27 03:02:29 xev: for an n900? Dec 27 03:02:31 xev: $150 is a nice deal Dec 27 03:02:34 Dhraakellian, yea.. Dec 27 03:02:41 * Dhraakellian paid $350 a year and a half ago Dec 27 03:02:43 Dhraakellian: Plasma Netbook was buggy, haven't tried Active yet Dec 27 03:02:47 xev: where at? Dec 27 03:02:54 luke-jr: ...on the n900? Dec 27 03:02:54 luke-jr, malaysia. Dec 27 03:03:17 my µUSB port broke off months ago Dec 27 03:03:39 Dhraakellian: I run Gentoo on my N900. Dec 27 03:03:58 I only recently got one soldered back on (and then bought some beer for the guy who did the soldering) Dec 27 03:04:08 luke-jr, really? you can do that? Dec 27 03:04:13 ...but my cell hardware still isn't working Dec 27 03:04:32 xev: why not? Dec 27 03:04:33 how about battery usage? Dec 27 03:04:36 I noticed in the tear-down for the USB port reinstallation that I'm missing one of the tiny phillips screws Dec 27 03:04:53 xev: battery usage seems better under Gentoo than Maemo ;) Dec 27 03:05:03 would that cause/contribute to "communications errors"? Dec 27 03:05:15 what with contacts not being properly held in place? Dec 27 03:05:18 maemo how long usually? on stanby ? Dec 27 03:05:22 avarage usage? Dec 27 03:05:50 * Dhraakellian is guessing not, since it's no longer an intermittant thing like it was back in march–june or so Dec 27 03:06:07 how about meego? Dec 27 03:06:19 It can last about a week with communication off and nothing sucking up CPU time. Realistically, it should last about a day with a few hours of browsing etc. Dec 27 03:06:28 xev: Meego is dead Dec 27 03:06:41 Instant messengers etc, however, will definately suck battery Dec 27 03:07:26 i'm going to use maemo first.. default os.. Dec 27 03:07:34 then going to learn more on gentoo.. Dec 27 03:07:38 cool Dec 27 03:07:48 I'm still working on getting Gentoo 100% usable Dec 27 03:08:12 other than that? what os i can use on n900? Dec 27 03:08:34 dunno Dec 27 03:08:35 meamo/gentoo/meego Dec 27 05:38:49 Can anyone here help. Ive been trying to create a bootable sdcard partition on my n900 (linux smart-phone) but the partition keeps going to a read only file. I'm trying to install NITDroid with this guide ----> http://nitdroid.com/index.php?title=N900-install <---- but it's not working, I hane tried # nitdroid and # nitdroid-help.. no answer. Dec 27 05:41:15 please im so close. Dec 27 05:42:19 been up all night Dec 27 05:42:40 read everything i can find.. im not trying to troll Dec 27 09:52:42 Hi. I recently reflashed my N900. Today I noticed that I when I wanted to download some missing stuff from Ovi store (launched via "Store" from the menu) I could do that for the free applications without any kind of login. Nice. It would be even nicer, if I could store the .deb packages that are downloaded by the application manager, so that I can reinstall the from the command line the next time. Dec 27 09:52:43 Apparently the files are downloaded to a temporary location, but deleted immediately after download. Any ideas how to get the files anyway? Dec 27 09:59:45 mihu, it's do-able Dec 27 09:59:57 mihu, can actually generate a package from the installed system Dec 27 10:01:34 http://sprunge.us/VOKL <-- mihu that's the script... store it into genbreakrepo chmod +x it you need bash and gnu sed on the device then you can run ./genbreakrepo gen_backup package_name Dec 27 10:01:40 and it should produce a package Dec 27 10:10:46 or you can hack the apt-get to make it download to a certain location which I think also prevents downloaded deb files being deleted after its being installed. Though really you should seek a long term solution such as using something like backupmenu by robbiethe1st. There are programs which has a fair few dependencies if not more.. without installing them in the correct order produces errors and you can't simply apt-get them without running a local repos Dec 27 10:10:47 itory or some sort. Dec 27 10:27:18 ruskie: Thanks for the link. Hm, but I think it's nicer to have the original package. Dec 27 10:27:52 psycho_oreos: The download lands in /home/user/MyDocs/.apt-archive-cache/partial/ If the download is big enough and it takes some time to install it, I think I can just copy it from there. Dec 27 10:33:39 how to shut off im sound? even when volume is jacked all the way down, it interferes with fm radio Dec 27 10:34:25 settings > profiles Dec 27 10:35:18 Sicelo: turned down volume via Settings > Profiles Dec 27 10:35:42 radio feed is still interrupted Dec 27 10:35:51 volume for IM? Dec 27 10:35:59 yes Dec 27 10:37:10 i have no idea then. u may want to try C Fmradio. tends to have less interruptions Dec 27 10:37:23 have not found any setting to disable sound for incoming im Dec 27 10:37:38 only to change soundfile/volume Dec 27 10:38:29 looked in Conversations and Settings > IM Accounts Dec 27 10:39:31 the next best thing would probably be Silent profile Dec 27 10:39:50 i'm sure if u dig into the configuration files u might find something Dec 27 10:41:11 Sicelo: thanks Dec 27 10:41:27 silent mode mutes the radio :P Dec 27 10:41:45 but I'll do some digging :) Dec 27 10:42:58 later Dec 27 10:44:35 0.0 omg. maemo is weird Dec 27 11:08:35 I wanted to "snag" a download that is done from the Ovi store. I found out that the download ends up in /home/user/MyDocs/.apt-archive-cache, but is deleted afterwards. Because the installation takes time, you can copy the .deb from that location during the install. I used the following one-liner to achieve that. It will try to copy any .deb file from that directory every second and will stop if it succeeded. Dec 27 11:08:40 cd /home/user/MyDocs/.apt-archive-cache; while [ 1 ]; do cp *.deb /home/user/MyDocs/; if [ "$?" -eq 0 ]; then echo "done"; break; fi; echo "waiting"; sleep 1; done Dec 27 11:09:14 You can launch the one-liner from the terminal, then do the install and after the install, the .deb file can by found in /home/user/MyDocs/ Dec 27 11:12:39 #maemo:298. #meego:280 Dec 27 11:19:30 mihu: (untested!) while inotifywait -e modify -t 240; do cp -a /home/user/MyDocs/.apt-archive-cache /home/user/MyDocs/.apt-archive-cache_snatchit; done Dec 27 11:33:45 Doc: #harmattan:165 Dec 27 11:48:20 #harmattan never been a competitor for this chan, it's explicitly complementary to here Dec 27 11:48:51 regarding what #harmattan is meant for, 165 is an amazing number Dec 27 11:49:23 yeah Dec 27 11:49:35 that is what I meant, actually :) Dec 27 11:51:09 btw my minimum highlight regex still is "docsc.*\:" Dec 27 11:51:21 or joerg Dec 27 11:52:47 or "doc.*er\:" Dec 27 11:53:38 doc and docs is a poor choice for highlighting Dec 27 11:53:46 whats up doc :P Dec 27 11:55:36 Doc: "docsc" sounds scatological, I would not do something like this Dec 27 11:55:53 anyway it works :-D Dec 27 16:52:43 is it normal that the images i take with fcamera are only 640x480 large?
