**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Jan 01 02:59:57 2012 Jan 01 12:02:39 [disclaimer: this might be offtopic here. if so, just let me know] so I have a one month old N900 in a tight reboot loop: it's off when unplugged; if I plug the wall charger or the USB cable it vibrates, it shows the faint nokia logo, the notification led shortly blinks in red, and after some 30s it reboots and everything starts over. lsusb in my laptop does not show the phone, booting for flashing does nothing different and I even left it plugged ... Jan 01 12:02:46 ... to the wall charger the whole night. any ideas? Jan 01 12:03:42 phone entered MALF state somehow Jan 01 12:03:51 malf? Jan 01 12:03:59 malfunction Jan 01 12:04:05 hardware-related Jan 01 12:04:21 either that, or getbootstate is moody Jan 01 12:04:30 try doing the battery pull trick Jan 01 12:04:50 pull the battery, plug it into USB for flashing, start flasher, put battery in Jan 01 12:06:28 hmm, now I tried to boot it, it goes up to showing the blue on white nokia logo, but I see nothing on lsusb Jan 01 12:06:33 I'll try that Jan 01 12:09:07 there is no way to boot it without a battery, right? I mean, it doesn't behave like a notebook... Jan 01 12:09:33 No/. Jan 01 12:15:03 no way to boot it w/o battery. Jan 01 12:15:59 that's the way nokia phones are. also, cellmodem needs a large jump in voltage for a short time, which USB cannot supply Jan 01 12:20:39 what you should do is to have the usb cable plugged into the N900 and obviously the other end plugged into the laptop. Have the flasher program running (when its waiting for a suitable device), hold the u key whilst inserting the battery. This should hopefully get your N900 into firmware update mode Jan 01 12:21:26 don't worry about the lsusb part, its rather pointless. What you need to do is to make sure that your N900 is getting reflashed. Jan 01 12:54:21 Hurrian: the modem needs a largelump of voltage for a short time? Jan 01 12:54:26 is that to connect to the tower? Jan 01 12:57:18 brain damage lol... classic horror there Jan 01 14:34:11 Hurrian: almost correct - modem introduces bursts where it consumes large amounts of electric *current*. And yes, they are beyond what USB could provide or could reasonably get buffered in any capacitor Jan 01 14:38:26 StyXman: please read *complete* page (your problem is briefly but comprehensively mentioned there, see buzzword "flat battery"): Jan 01 14:38:29 ~flash Jan 01 14:38:30 maemo-flashing is probably http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware Jan 01 14:39:32 StyXman: in short: bootloop does not charge // flasher does not flash when battery low // get external charger! Jan 01 14:40:07 and forget MALF, it doesn't exist on N900 Jan 01 14:41:28 * SpeedEvil sighs. Jan 01 14:41:38 Cleaning up is boring. Jan 01 14:41:46 OTOH - I found some microdisplays. Jan 01 14:41:54 Now - if I can just find the datasheets. Jan 01 17:11:08 happy new year #maemo! Jan 01 20:11:41 how can I run fsck on /home ? Jan 01 20:11:52 ~seen MohammadAG Jan 01 20:12:00 mohammadag is currently on #maemo #meego, last said: 'The pieces were transparent?'. Jan 01 20:12:13 cryptic indeed Jan 01 20:12:37 ?? Jan 01 20:12:52 cityLights: use backupmenu Jan 01 20:13:49 I *think* you could install it even when /home is mounted r/o due to fs corruption Jan 01 20:14:27 it's incredible that maemo has no OOTB measures to run fsck when needed Jan 01 20:23:10 javispedro: happy new year! Jan 01 20:23:39 happppyy Jan 01 20:27:12 this year we will see the world come to an end, the year of the linux handset, the year of the war on general purpose computing, and the year of the tablet. oh, and third world war. Jan 01 20:27:38 * RST38h does not see the linux handset part Jan 01 20:27:44 and maybe not the tablet Jan 01 20:27:44 and year of the troll, on freenode ;-) Jan 01 20:27:52 but yeah, the rest stand Jan 01 20:27:53 s Jan 01 20:29:11 * DocScrutinizer wonders how to place the IRCgadget, the MAILgadget, the OFFICEgadget, the SSHgadget, all on one small desk Jan 01 20:29:36 need Microsoft Surface for that, don't you? Jan 01 20:29:58 actually, I have this beatiful place where I thrown the hooker800... Jan 01 20:30:00 ooh, a virtual desk(-top)? Jan 01 20:31:01 * RST38h just spent 1+ hours "managing" an Android handset Jan 01 20:31:25 The amount of shit dropped to its SD card by various packages leaves even MSDOS drive C: in utter shame Jan 01 21:06:00 Ah, sweet, looks like a war with Iran is fashionable again in 2012! Jan 01 21:27:15 a fun thought for today. After reading the article that was posted in #qt about MS VisualStudio's splash screen ( http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudio/archive/2009/11/11/behind-the-scenes-splash-screen.aspx ), I realized that the code that handles the splash screen in VS2010 is probably larger than the entire VisualC++ 1.0 Jan 01 21:27:54 the power management section of the core i processors is bigger than a pentium 1 Jan 01 21:34:26 mavhc: ? Jan 01 21:34:34 mavhc: ah, you mean in number of transistors Jan 01 21:34:56 mavhc: well, the entire uncore is a ~486 iirc, so the power mgmt section can't be larger than a pentium1 Jan 01 21:35:07 either way, you cannot argue the relative usefulness of the uncore vs a splash screen =) Jan 01 21:36:54 * javispedro gtg Jan 01 22:38:31 hey, is anyone using AGTL (Automatic Geocaching Tool for Linux) on the N900? Jan 01 23:08:50 never mind, just had to upgrade to extras-devel :) Jan 02 00:30:12 hi Jan 02 00:31:25 hi Jan 02 00:31:57 alas & n8 **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Jan 02 02:59:56 2012
