**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed Feb 18 03:00:00 2015 Feb 18 03:38:34 how does maemo do wifi? I can't find NetworkManager or wpa_supplicant running Feb 18 04:16:59 wtf, osso-wlan and eapd Feb 18 04:28:00 and eapd closed :( Feb 18 04:28:10 why you ask anyway? Feb 18 04:28:27 you can used wpa_supplicant if you have to ... Feb 18 04:39:58 Sicelo: I've been trying every permutation of options to get the Maemo to connect to a PEAP/mschapv2 network recently and was hoping to look at debug output to see something more informative than "authentication failure" Feb 18 04:40:26 worst-case I'll look into wpa_supplicant, but I assume that means the GUI becomes inoperative? Feb 18 04:41:46 why would they ship a closed-source component like that if there was a working open-source one out there? Feb 18 05:12:22 this site appears to be a spam site but planet-maemo is subscribed to its RSS feed http://www.maemo-guru.com/ Feb 18 05:12:28 could someone remove it? Feb 18 05:30:06 MonkeyofDoom: try the EAP tab in Advanced SEttings. Enable "Use manual user name" and re-enter the username in the "Manual user name field." If you've tried this and it didn't work, then wpa_supplicant is the only way you can connect to that network Feb 18 05:30:34 * Sicelo has a network like that at work, and wpa_supplicant works just fine Feb 18 05:30:51 I believe I've already tried exactly that Feb 18 05:30:57 but I'll give it a go next chance I get Feb 18 05:33:22 fairly garbage that there are networks where it Just Doesn't Work though, no? Feb 18 08:46:30 can i have multiple sdks in one scratchbox? Feb 18 08:47:20 ie. 770 and n800 and n900 ? Feb 18 09:17:39 KotCzarny: you can choose the target in sb, so .... I'd say "yes" but I dunno for sure and I have never tried Feb 18 09:18:30 bencoh: thought about that, but do sdk installers are dependant on specific tools versions etc Feb 18 09:18:54 worst case scenario is 3 separate sdks with home dirs symlinked Feb 18 09:21:30 dunno Feb 18 10:14:05 MonkeyofDoom: it looks like eapd isn't strictly at fault. seems most of the time there is actually something broken in the network or its config. N900 'takes things too seriously' with Enterprise networks. once something is amiss, it will refuse to connect, while almost all other devices will let you choose to connnect anyway. N900 will not even auto-connect to an enterprise network .. there is some bug against that, and Nokia said it's a feature. Feb 18 10:14:48 what do you mean by "once something is amiss" Feb 18 10:14:49 ? Feb 18 10:19:12 when there is something not exactly right with the network Feb 18 10:19:55 e.g. our work network has some certificate problem. even iPhone users get prompted to "connect anyway" the first time Feb 18 10:20:15 isn't enterprise about security? Feb 18 10:20:53 if enterprise sets fugly network, its' fugly enterprise and should be ticketed to it/sysadmins deparment Feb 18 10:21:06 depend of it guy workin in enterprise corpo i guess... Feb 18 10:21:08 which of course N900 does not. i setup a proper PEAP network at home, and N900 connects to it just fine. that's why i say N900 isn't exactly in the wrong, except that it does take things too seriously :) Feb 18 10:21:33 Sicelo: what is missing ? Feb 18 10:21:47 sicelo, as i said, nag the sysadmins Feb 18 10:21:49 :) Feb 18 10:21:56 lol.. KotCzarny :D Feb 18 10:22:18 it's their job they are paid for, right? Feb 18 10:22:24 there's over 1000, and i'm the only N900 user. you can guess i don't count Feb 18 10:22:37 *1000 users of this WiFi Feb 18 10:22:38 you've found a bug in their network Feb 18 10:22:53 and bugs usually mean there is a hole Feb 18 10:23:03 depends on the "bug" Feb 18 10:23:15 bugs are results of flaky code Feb 18 10:23:16 for instance, if the certificate is expired, that's a "bug" Feb 18 10:23:26 Sicelo: maybe You using staff that match rfc-s ^^ Feb 18 10:23:35 drathir: i have forgot the exact problem .. been a while since i checked out the situation. Feb 18 10:23:47 using what? Feb 18 10:23:57 sicelo, in the worst case just set up wifi ap for yourself ;) Feb 18 10:24:03 if the CA they're using isnt installed on n900 (or if their cert is autosigned) it's not a bug Feb 18 10:24:21 Sicelo: specifications of interfaces used, not all stuff follow thats docs... Feb 18 10:24:22 i think he meant 'stuff' Feb 18 10:25:05 KotCzarny: not permitted in the work environment to install other connectivity devices. only managed cisco are here. even bluetooth service is disabled on all computers :p Feb 18 10:25:46 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Request_for_Comments Feb 18 10:25:47 so, back to 'try to debug and find what's wrong' phase then Feb 18 10:26:07 then to post the ticket for sysadmins Feb 18 10:26:08 ;) Feb 18 10:26:22 :D Feb 18 10:27:01 grab some linux machine, enable max debugs in wpa_supplicant, and see if there is anything interesting that might point you to the n900 issue Feb 18 10:27:12 i'm not a sysadmin, but am privileged to look at them. Nokia is officially not supported (this enterprise problem is not N900-specific .. even N8 and others have it) Feb 18 10:27:13 ie. try to connect at work with max debug Feb 18 10:27:25 KotCzarny: yea and the sysadmin go to angry mode ;p Feb 18 10:27:33 BOFH :p Feb 18 10:27:39 drathir: more like, 'i dont care' mode Feb 18 10:27:43 and i do have wap_supplicant on the N900 .. that's how i connect to this wifi Feb 18 10:28:00 so yes, they can keep their network, lol.. i don't care anymore Feb 18 10:28:03 sicelo, enable max debug, investigate for oddities Feb 18 10:28:35 i want the source code for message center Feb 18 10:28:37 where is it Feb 18 10:28:39 gibe source Feb 18 10:28:41 i can patch Feb 18 10:28:52 Sicelo: i say You that almost sure the bb9900 is even more restrictive "in secure config" than n900... Feb 18 10:28:58 i did that .. but that info isn't of any use in the end. they will not reconfigure it for me only, especially using such an 'ancient' device Feb 18 10:28:59 sicelo: find other users, make a lobby Feb 18 10:29:20 haha, maybe i'm a lazy guy then ... Feb 18 10:29:48 but i can assure you only Nokia users have problems here (symbian + my 2 maemo devices). so .. who cares Feb 18 10:29:48 or grab data plan for your phone Feb 18 10:30:08 10:27 < Sicelo> and i do have wap_supplicant on the N900 .. that's how i connect to this wifi Feb 18 10:30:30 does it work with wpa_supplicant ? Feb 18 10:30:34 100% Feb 18 10:30:56 oh, well ... Feb 18 10:31:00 symbian mostly not care about certs i guess... never have any warnings about... ;/ Feb 18 10:31:02 just disable cert verification in the config and you're done ;) Feb 18 10:31:15 Sicelo: is the cert autosigned, or expired ? Feb 18 10:31:25 symbian does care .. it just never warns you, same as maemo :p Feb 18 10:32:16 Sicelo: oh... /me not sure than whats is the point if not warn about... Feb 18 10:32:37 drathir: doesnt warn, just drops connection Feb 18 10:32:38 ;) Feb 18 10:32:43 ie. nazi mode Feb 18 10:32:44 * drathir like certpatrol ;p Feb 18 10:32:45 bencoh: i will recheck the cert issue for you.. there is a CA, and the cert is signed by that CA .. however using the root cert didn't help me at all. maybe it's missing some fields or something Feb 18 10:33:06 oh, sad Feb 18 10:34:35 KotCzarny: thats the point never have a symbin sytuation with drop, thats low possibility i have that big lucky, the bb9900 is nazi mode, because with really wrong cert even not allow to connect no force mode at all... Feb 18 10:35:00 will be quicker to show you the error it throws on Windows for this ... it's in some MS KB Feb 18 10:36:29 Sicelo: wonder if they using multiple dns matching... ? Feb 18 11:23:51 this site appears to be a spam site but planet-maemo is subscribed to its RSS feed http://www.maemo-guru.com/ Feb 18 11:23:52 could someone remove it? Feb 18 11:36:11 the link to the SDK is dead http://maemo.org/development/sdks/ Feb 18 11:36:23 yes, for quite long time Feb 18 11:36:29 few years probably Feb 18 11:36:40 how do i start developing Feb 18 11:36:40 so, bencoh, drathir, KotCzarny ... Microsoft KB 2518158 ... that's what you get for this wifi network on a windows machine which is outside the domain. said laptop has the cert. managed laptops don't get this prompt Feb 18 11:36:52 i want the MUC chat to fix Feb 18 11:37:11 erlehmann: grab the source, change the code Feb 18 11:37:20 KotCzarny where is the repository for all source code? Feb 18 11:37:25 in case source is not available, find someone who can change it Feb 18 11:37:58 http://maemo.org/development/sources/ Feb 18 11:39:09 okay thx Feb 18 11:39:41 how is the messagengi interface called? Feb 18 11:40:27 sicelo: google found this for me: http://serverfault.com/questions/624218/setting-up-nps-with-a-certificate-that-is-valid-to-both-ad-and-non-ad-machines Feb 18 11:40:42 could be only one of many problems related to that kb Feb 18 11:41:36 ~sb Feb 18 11:41:36 scratchbox is probably a cross-compiling system that uses binfmt_misc, rpc calls, and an nfs mount to make a cross-build appear to be 100% native, and is found at http://www.scratchbox.org/, hosted by maemo now. Also at http://maemo.merlin1991.at/files/SB Feb 18 11:41:42 erlehmann: ^ Feb 18 11:42:21 apt-get source to fetch sources from repository Feb 18 11:42:29 and see gitorious.org/community-cssu Feb 18 11:42:35 err Feb 18 11:43:09 gitorious.org/community-ssu (no "c") Feb 18 11:43:15 i do not know how the package is called Feb 18 11:43:48 so anyway, you know how sysadmins are ... they know, you don't. when you try show that you know, they start hunting you down in suspcion of hacking, etc. Feb 18 11:44:07 welcome to the corpo world Feb 18 11:44:10 * Sicelo is satisfied with wpa_supplicant solution as a result :) Feb 18 11:44:12 :) Feb 18 11:44:12 Sicelo: thanks... Feb 18 11:45:13 sicelo, isnt it that what you are doing now? Feb 18 11:45:14 Sicelo: "real" sysadmins in a proper env aren't like that ;) Feb 18 11:45:30 ie. using different tools to connect, debug etc Feb 18 11:45:36 i'm not saying this is the problem on the network MonkeyofDoom is using, but that broken networks do exist in abundance, and no one cares to fix them Feb 18 11:45:40 tHATS hacking Feb 18 11:45:43 haha KotCzarny Feb 18 11:45:50 which is different from CRACKING Feb 18 11:45:55 learn the difference Feb 18 11:46:42 :-) Feb 18 11:46:51 i know. anyway, wpa_supplicant is 'hacking' my phone, not the network lulz Feb 18 11:47:28 still, you are hacking Feb 18 11:47:29 :) Feb 18 11:48:03 pity Exchange ActiveSync can't be fooled in the same way .. Feb 18 11:48:30 im pretty sure if they dont care about security of connect to network they even more dont care about Sicelo "hacking" ;p Feb 18 11:48:30 it's the only corporate resource i cannot use atm, and OWA is disabled on our network Feb 18 11:50:18 but true better not give solutions, because if someone goin to make nasty things You become first suspicious one ;/ that sad... Feb 18 11:50:44 yes, true that Feb 18 11:51:14 luckily, i'm the only N900 user, and Symbianers can't be helped this way Feb 18 11:52:12 That why me only allow to get access to friends pc, and not much like get access to random one persons from network even when helping... Feb 18 11:53:18 well.. friends can be your worst enemy Feb 18 11:53:20 :) Feb 18 11:53:34 ofc often me takes few min to fix somethin than few h to make a follow person with my minds ;p Feb 18 11:54:12 but taht is more secure for me, and for person bc he also should feel more secure... Feb 18 11:54:26 why computers have viruses? because of people using them (mostly) Feb 18 11:57:55 KotCzarny: thats true, but personally not have a much friend, but them are real one root meaning of that word not like this days "normal" ppl understandin "friends" word mean... personally even save to give full acces to bank account w/o any aware... ;p Feb 18 11:58:24 KotCzarny: bc of winscary... Feb 18 11:58:25 friend is someone you give root access to Feb 18 11:58:27 :) Feb 18 11:58:41 KotCzarny: that all bad is bc of m$ ;p Feb 18 11:59:45 (stupid pygtk not showing icons on buttons *grumble*) Feb 18 11:59:52 KotCzarny: which one make ppl more stupid one than real them are... m$ is brain vaccum for ppl... Feb 18 12:00:14 here is alt link: http://repository.maemo.org/stable/fremantle/ Feb 18 12:00:25 drathir: windows started as a way to allow not-computer-savvy people use computers Feb 18 12:00:47 then it just went the 'we know, you dont, but here, click those icons' Feb 18 12:01:02 neo-illiteracy Feb 18 12:01:21 from understanding back to image-communication Feb 18 12:02:20 KotCzarny: no they find good way to drain ppl money for nothing and make ppl dumb-er and foul them... ;/ no thinkin when using a pc is worser than not using pc at all... Feb 18 12:02:29 that too Feb 18 12:03:38 but it's the way world went, many years ago if kid was running free late, no one cared much, now.. 'oh no, you must be with kid ALL the time or something bad will happen' Feb 18 12:03:52 * drathir when only can direct ppl to linux and help and learn to using the "better and safer" os... Feb 18 12:03:55 ie. from civilised to gangsta Feb 18 12:06:30 KotCzarny: but honestly wonder and will little scared what will happen if linux get as much donation like m$ drain from ppl... aware if not became better but worser... Feb 18 12:07:18 drathir: linux doesnt need donations but big user base Feb 18 12:07:41 once that happens, people and corpos will consider it worthy of attention Feb 18 12:07:44 the same bad like become now with ubuntu in my opinion now... Feb 18 12:07:54 one now* Feb 18 12:07:57 * KotCzarny uses slackware Feb 18 12:08:12 since 4.0 Feb 18 12:08:26 tried all debian/rh based ones Feb 18 12:08:30 KotCzarny: nice... Feb 18 12:08:40 they got too far from k.i.s.s. principle Feb 18 12:08:47 they got m$ Feb 18 12:08:52 m$ way Feb 18 12:09:00 'we know, you don't' Feb 18 12:09:41 * drathir sitting at arch, but only one alternative if arch goin really bad in decisions is openbsd... Feb 18 12:10:09 slackware is nice because it doesnt overcomplicate things, tries to get as much out of your way as possible Feb 18 12:10:38 KotCzarny: slackware have systemd onboard? Feb 18 12:10:44 nope Feb 18 12:10:51 one of the few that don't Feb 18 12:10:57 KotCzarny: thats good news... Feb 18 12:11:39 i guess need to prepare vm for slacckware in near future... Feb 18 12:11:50 and slackware leader explicitily said it doesn't like systemd Feb 18 12:11:58 KotCzarny: package manager/format rpm? Feb 18 12:12:09 txz Feb 18 12:12:11 tgz Feb 18 12:12:25 O.o thats also good... Feb 18 12:12:28 package manager is there but i do things manually Feb 18 12:12:51 wonder if pacman able to assimilate... Feb 18 12:13:14 you can even do rpm2tgz and install resultant package without caring about the deps Feb 18 12:13:47 it's really simple, but allows you to do interesting things without being policed by package manager Feb 18 12:19:34 drathir, also, preparing your own packages is VERY simple Feb 18 12:22:22 KotCzarny: arch with aur is a really flexible things too... need to watch in action that os too... Feb 18 12:38:36 504 Host tablets-dev.nokia.com lookup failed: Host not found Feb 18 12:38:39 where do i get current image Feb 18 12:39:51 here? http://www.jedge.com/n900/ Feb 18 12:40:03 ~image Feb 18 12:40:04 See 'iso' Feb 18 12:40:08 ~iso Feb 18 12:40:09 i guess iso is 20megs, but it has a complete secure web interface Feb 18 12:40:12 wat Feb 18 12:40:14 ~flash Feb 18 12:40:15 it has been said that maemo-flashing is http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware, or - on linux PC - download&extract http://maemo.cloud-7.de/maemo5/patches_n_tools/maemo-my-private-workdir.tgz, cd into it, do sudo ./flash-it-all.sh Feb 18 12:40:27 ~flasher Feb 18 12:40:28 extra, extra, read all about it, flasher is at http://www.jedge.com/n810/flasher/maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.tar.gz (also .exe!), or http://www.chakra-project.org/ccr/packages.php?ID=5027 or generally http://www.google.com/search?q=maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.tar.gz. Since gtalk became Hangouts (unless i'm mistaken) does it mean i can call those users? Feb 18 15:28:53 no with hangouts but with gmail web plugin Feb 18 15:29:01 that old one Feb 18 15:29:32 ok. no idea about that plugin. will look Feb 18 15:34:26 Pali merlin1991 i think i got it! Feb 18 15:46:44 i have not run the code in question. Feb 18 15:46:53 as i have no idea to build this stuff Feb 18 15:47:02 but i am reasonably certain that it should work Feb 18 15:47:45 have you fetched the sb vm ? Feb 18 15:47:57 the what? Feb 18 15:55:36 erlehmann: they probably dont either Feb 18 15:56:01 bencoh i will find out Feb 18 15:57:21 in #telepathy someone told me i misunderstood everything! Feb 18 15:58:19 erlehmann: you've misunderstood the protocol slightly; this ... thing is not a history message by itself, it's metadata which is included in the message which XMPP uses to join the MUC Feb 18 15:58:19 erlehmann: http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0045.html#enter-managehistory "This is accomplished by including a child in the initial presence stanza sent when joining the room." Feb 18 19:02:17 anyway, new day, new knowledge Feb 18 19:03:15 fast-application-manager says: some packages have unmet dependencies :D Feb 18 19:03:29 fapman is unsupported Feb 18 19:08:24 KotCzarny: fun bug :) Feb 18 19:08:50 bencoh, yeah.. trying to add daemonizing option to the interactive program Feb 18 19:10:48 so, proper fix, instead of close(0); one shall use: int fd = open("/dev/null", O_WRONLY); dup2(fd, 0); close(fd); Feb 18 19:13:27 similar fun with stdout and stderr Feb 18 19:14:22 if you close(1) then have some socket bind to fdesc 1, then you have forgotten printf, it will output to that socket Feb 18 19:14:30 yay for /dev/null! Feb 18 20:56:34 Anyone have knowledge of bpf with maemo? Feb 18 21:06:18 Hi all. I have a few issues and was going to report bugs. problem is i'm not sure which components are free/can have bugs reported and which aren't. is there a canonical list where i can check? Feb 18 21:10:33 Pali: ping? Feb 18 21:10:42 stryngs: pong Feb 18 21:10:53 Pali: bpf, it seems the kernel was not created with it in mind Feb 18 21:11:01 trying to do some packet sniffing and injection Feb 18 21:11:10 which kernel? Feb 18 21:11:14 isnt it bsd thing? Feb 18 21:11:24 ie. linux does iptables Feb 18 21:11:30 Linux Nokia-N900 2.6.28.10-power53 #1 PREEMPT Wed Dec 10 13:52:39 UTC 2014 armv7l GNU/Linux Feb 18 21:11:52 But in the code for packit, there is: Feb 18 21:11:53 if(pcap_compile(pkt, &bpf, filter, 0, netmask) < 0) Feb 18 21:11:53 fprintf(stderr, "\nWarning: Unable to compile packet filters: %s\n", pcap_geterr(pkt)); Feb 18 21:11:56 sys_bpf() call was added to arm only now (3.19) Feb 18 21:12:09 So, in laymans terms, not possible with n900? Feb 18 21:12:17 or it was ebpf call? Feb 18 21:12:19 do not rememebr Feb 18 21:13:02 poh well, it's late, time to run before i say more stupid things Feb 18 21:13:07 Pali: I take it, it's not possible on the n900 then? Feb 18 21:13:22 Pali: Trying to make this a packet sniffer that greps for a given GET, and then injects =) Feb 18 21:13:40 But most pre-written softwares die on the n900 with the filtering not working, and it works beautifully on a laptop Feb 18 21:15:25 check kernel power defconfig Feb 18 21:15:39 maybe your needed option is just disabled Feb 18 21:15:57 I do not know if it is possible on n900 with kernel power Feb 18 21:16:14 kernel power defconfig doesn't work Feb 18 21:16:21 i have kernel-config Feb 18 21:16:28 and kernel-load Feb 18 21:16:40 defconfig is kernel compile-time config file Feb 18 21:16:49 nothing related to kernel-load and etc Feb 18 21:17:03 is this going to be in the kp .deb file? Feb 18 21:17:17 Plz bear with, I am NOT a kernel person by ANY means or stretch of the imagination Feb 18 21:17:17 do not know Feb 18 21:17:20 Oh Feb 18 21:17:27 check /proc/config.gz Feb 18 21:17:30 or /proc/config Feb 18 21:17:56 doesnt exist =) Feb 18 21:17:57 if not, you need to download sources and check it here Feb 18 21:18:00 looked there a while ago Feb 18 21:18:02 Ah Feb 18 21:18:10 So your're saying I might could enable it Feb 18 21:18:27 first you need to know what to enable Feb 18 21:18:48 try to find on internet why your function fails Feb 18 21:19:07 All i've got is the sourcecode, google failed me Feb 18 21:19:07 if it depends on some kernel feature CONFIG_ Feb 18 21:19:25 then this can be enabled/disabled at compile time Feb 18 21:19:50 Are there a list of available flags to throw in the file? Feb 18 21:20:16 rx51_defconfig is filename in kernel-power source code Feb 18 21:20:27 and each CONFIG is either enabled or commented Feb 18 21:21:01 looking here, yes? http://maemo.org/packages/view/kernel-power-source/ Feb 18 21:21:06 not /kernel-power Feb 18 21:21:56 its ok Feb 18 21:22:00 as in http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/pool/fremantle/free/k/kernel-power/ Feb 18 21:22:01 unpack it and see Feb 18 21:22:04 k Feb 18 21:22:08 just nervous pali =) Feb 18 21:22:11 It's my only n900 Feb 18 21:22:17 hate messing with this low level stuff Feb 18 21:22:22 but if i can fix it, ill try Feb 18 21:22:45 no dsc or tarball Feb 18 21:22:51 ill just unpack .deb, eh? Feb 18 21:22:56 yes Feb 18 21:23:11 you have working USB port? flasher can load the resulting kernel & boot it without flashing, so you will be fine :) Feb 18 21:23:16 and then unpack /usr/src/kernel-power-source-2.6.28.10-power53.tar.bz2 Feb 18 21:23:49 Sicelo: Even with my funky ass mounting? Feb 18 21:23:55 This is exciting =) Feb 18 21:24:05 then look into file kernel-power/arch/arm/configs/rx51_defconfig Feb 18 21:24:12 this is that defconfig file ^^^ Feb 18 21:24:23 dloading now =) Feb 18 21:24:31 38,447,411 834.58K/s ETA 00:31 Feb 18 21:24:32 =) Feb 18 21:24:38 Good ole t-moble Feb 18 21:25:00 ok, thats all from me now Feb 18 21:25:01 bye Feb 18 21:25:07 thanks pali =) Feb 18 21:25:10 MUCH obliged Feb 18 23:37:35 Kamping_Kaiser: if you have some issue please do tell us about it (here and/on or talk.maemo.org) if you're not sure where to report it :) Feb 18 23:41:25 re, battery full and led is green :) Feb 19 02:23:55 hey there. how to view current sip login info located at /home/user/.signon/user_db.xml ? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu Feb 19 02:59:58 2015
