**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Jun 16 02:59:59 2015 Jun 16 09:22:52 Hello. Looking aroung for a solution to play music in my living room and thinking about hifiberry with volumio, I remembered my n900. My n900 is not used since the gsm-modul is broken. Hm, perhaps I could reanimate this device? Some google-searches later I could't find something that fits for me. So my question here: Are there known projects for the n900, that will help me to stream my music? Jun 16 09:23:03 alx: try oscp Jun 16 09:24:15 it might be a bit different from what you ask, but also might be a lot better than what you thing to implement' Jun 16 09:24:53 ie. you put music library on the n900, connect it to hifi box then control from any other device in your house Jun 16 09:25:20 KotCzarny: confess that you have a trigger for 'music', 'streaming', 'play', 'sound', 'mp3' Jun 16 09:25:41 ceene: in a way, but my irc client doesnt have such script Jun 16 09:26:18 you are the most efficient PR Jun 16 09:26:46 nope Jun 16 09:26:51 coca cola should hire you to do their publicity stunts :) Jun 16 09:27:15 if i was one, i would promote it on other platforms as well Jun 16 09:27:55 i'm most probably gonna install oscp on a little x86 computer i have Jun 16 09:28:03 alx_: mpd? Jun 16 09:28:08 to make it stream to my wireless headphones and control it from the n900 :) Jun 16 09:28:17 :) Jun 16 09:28:25 ceene: oscp is a virus, it killed my brother Jun 16 09:28:28 hehehe Jun 16 09:28:33 as long as it supports .flac and .cue files Jun 16 09:28:50 ceene: flac yes, cue, how do i support it? Jun 16 09:29:14 i don't know much Jun 16 09:29:16 playlists Jun 16 09:29:23 hmm, maybe as a virtual playlist in a .m3u style Jun 16 09:29:25 yeah Jun 16 09:29:25 .cue files are basically playlists for long single .flac files Jun 16 09:29:34 put on todo Jun 16 09:30:09 is omp supporting cue? Jun 16 09:30:30 dunno Jun 16 09:30:45 i don't use it Jun 16 09:30:58 alx_: run mpd on your n900? Jun 16 09:31:04 that's likely what you want Jun 16 09:32:12 thank you for the hints, I just searching about oscp and mpd at this moment Jun 16 09:32:34 http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=94590 Jun 16 09:32:38 this is oscp's thread Jun 16 09:32:53 read about it's features here and decide Jun 16 09:40:44 alx_: mpd is the de facto 'living room' player with easy remote control Jun 16 09:43:31 and oscp is lightweight, almost-no-dependencies, play-it-all, no-stupid-media-library-scanner alternative Jun 16 09:44:51 * Wizzup thought we're in #maemo, not in #oscp ;-) Jun 16 09:45:47 oscp has many maemo specific features Jun 16 09:46:14 also, there are two types of people, media library fans and directory based libraries Jun 16 09:47:05 mpd is both Jun 16 09:48:00 lets just say that it's good to have a choice Jun 16 09:48:27 i wasnt able to find a player that would suit my needs, hence oscp was born Jun 16 14:16:13 I just installed mpd, because of the available clients(android for my wife, jolla for myself...) Everything works fine. The project from KotCzarny I bookmarked, it seemes interesting, I will check it too. Jun 16 14:17:10 Just curious if anybody uses an external soundcard via micro usb with the n900 for a better output quality? Jun 16 14:17:24 thanks for the tips so long Jun 16 14:17:45 i just use some cheapo 200mhz 10watt machine with lineout Jun 16 14:18:38 i think usb soundcard would draw too much power to make it permanent Jun 16 14:21:45 I kind of understand both points of view. If your media files are properly tagged then that's all that's needed to organise your stuff. On the other hand file system is already a strucure that carries most of the necessary information. I use command line tools to play music and adjust volume levels - but I'm also rather pedantic and must have everthing tagged in a uniform manner. Jun 16 14:22:51 wnd, i have music grouped by main type (ie techno/rock/electronic/classical/etc) then by more refined types, then artists etc Jun 16 14:23:20 so if i want to play more or less specific mood i just navigate to proper dir and press 'make recursive list' button Jun 16 14:23:25 then just cruise on shuffle Jun 16 14:23:54 no media library player can do that for me Jun 16 14:24:44 I suppose that's the essential difference. I just play Karnivool/Sound_Awake/02.Goliath.flac followed by Haken/The_Mountain/*.flac because I tend know what I want to listen to. Jun 16 14:25:02 you can also make fixed .m3u lists Jun 16 14:25:15 and bind them to quick keys Jun 16 14:25:50 ie. find -type f -iname karnivool -o -iname haken > list1.m3u Jun 16 14:26:01 when I don't know exactly what I want, then I may do $(rand Muse/*/*.flac) Jun 16 14:30:04 I allready have an amp, sound card I thougt just for better sound quality Jun 16 14:31:37 last time i read about headphone-out and line-out difference and noticed impedance matching IS audible **** ENDING LOGGING AT Wed Jun 17 02:59:59 2015
