**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon Jun 26 03:00:04 2017 Jun 26 10:20:58 i think it's time Jun 26 10:21:06 ;-; Jun 26 12:26:57 Enquired about an advertised 'white 64gb N9' online. He said he hadn't any problems with it and hasn't been used for the past 3yrs, was about to seal the deal; then asked him to test cellular. Jun 26 12:29:28 It seems that it doesn't recognise a working sim card. I asked him a few things, speculating about hardware or software issues. Jun 26 12:30:46 He's quite sure it's just software related and offerered a discount. Asked him a few more questions and he hasn't respondered since. Jun 26 12:33:26 It looks immaculate (as his description) apart from the chrome strip. Worth the risk for $80AUD ?? Jun 26 13:00:46 Depends how much you want an N9 I suppose. Jun 26 13:35:27 hmm. Yeah, I shouldn't be greedy; I already x2 64gb black n9. Cheers. Jun 26 13:35:39 *have Jun 26 14:14:11 N9 not rally known to have hw issues with cellmo Jun 26 14:15:21 however *might* be a mech-electrical issue with the "slot-in" SIM holder's contacts, particularly when somebody used a SIM in adapter frame Jun 26 14:16:18 I just wouldn't want an N9, not that I've used one. It just seemed the wrong direction at the time Jun 26 14:16:53 ~aegis Jun 26 14:16:54 http://www.developer.nokia.com/Community/Wiki/Harmattan:Developer_Library/Developing_for_Harmattan/Harmattan_security/Security_guide , or "The purpose of this framework is: ... to make sure that the platform meets the requirements set by third party software that requires a safe execution environment.", or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Computing#Criticism, or http://en.qi-hardware.com/w/images/1/10/ME_382_LockedUpTechnology2.gif Jun 26 14:16:58 same here Jun 26 14:17:12 ~factinfo aegis Jun 26 14:17:12 aegis -- created by DocScrutinizer <~halley@openmoko/engineers/joerg> at Sat Sep 24 21:21:15 2011 (2101 days); last modified at Sat Sep 24 21:21:22 2011 by DocScrutinizer!~halley@openmoko/engineers/joerg; it has been requested 137 times, last by sixwheeledbeast^, 19s ago. Jun 26 14:17:36 I understood competing with Android etc Jun 26 14:18:23 Android is "better" - more closed and thus more open when rooted Jun 26 14:18:50 while android has a hard shell, aegis sits everywhere inside that N9 Jun 26 14:20:31 basically AIUI when you once cracked the shell / armor of a Android, it's pretty much similar to a "normal" linux, as far as Android can ever be normal linux. On HARM you only can crack the whole thing by implementing your own kernel Jun 26 14:21:28 so from a security POV aegis > android security. For power users the relation gets reverted Jun 26 14:25:41 Point being coming from an N900 to an N9 would be a downgrade IMO. Jun 26 14:27:07 it felt like that, yes Jun 26 14:27:14 I used mine a 5 days Jun 26 14:27:52 Although at the moment moving to anything else is a downgrade :( Even if it is more powerful and modern etc etc Jun 26 14:28:05 now I should keep the pieces, and maybe even see if it possibly could get re-assembled Jun 26 15:36:37 i'm worried about what next after my n900 too Jun 26 15:37:26 i've put up a few ads this side trying to get n900's in any condition for parts. no responses yet :-( Jun 26 16:08:09 I have hardware spares for the future and I am still hopeful for the neo900 project. Jun 26 17:51:08 ~ham Jun 26 17:51:08 i guess ham is Hildon Application Manager. Slow as molasses. Anticipate you got time for a beer or two until it finishes whatever it does, or see ~speedyham Jun 26 17:51:46 ~speedy-ham Jun 26 17:51:51 ~speedyham Jun 26 17:51:52 somebody said speedyham was 30 times faster than HAM https://github.com/community-ssu/hildon-application-manager, now included in CSSU. Jun 26 18:52:48 i'm on cssu-thumb, running 2.6.28.10-cssu3 kernel. now i'm trying to install replacement bme, and apt wants to install pk. i guess the depencies need adjusting there Jun 26 18:55:13 maybe my understanding is wrong, but i think cssu3 kernel = pk53? Jun 26 19:19:32 freemangordon: so which is the plan for tls 1.2 https pages? :) Jun 26 22:15:10 xes: I don't think we have one :( Jun 26 22:16:47 cssu is effectively dead, fremantle port to devuan seems to be progressing way slower than I hoped, so... Jun 26 22:19:19 and maemo-browser uses internal nss to connect to https ..isn't it? Jun 26 22:30:12 afaik yes Jun 26 22:31:09 but I doubt we'll be able to port newer nss. And even if we are able, we don;t have any means to distribute it Jun 26 22:54:19 xes: the point is that I don't see any other dev (besides Wizzup, but it seems he has already too much stuff on the plate) interested in helping with maemo port Jun 26 22:55:11 freemangordon: actual devuan image can be used also in chroot? Jun 26 22:55:21 the best we could hope for is 2 or 3 more devs, porting FOSS stuff, with me doing the REing work Jun 26 22:55:25 I doubt Jun 26 22:55:47 it has jessie libc, and maemo kernel is too old afaik Jun 26 22:59:11 xes: you may want to look at https://github.com/dyne/arm-sdk Jun 26 22:59:38 it is really easy to be used, and you Jun 26 22:59:52 can tweak the board script to your needs Jun 26 23:00:09 like pre-installing lxde or whatever Jun 26 23:02:26 xes: on https://github.com/dyne/arm-sdk/blob/next/boards/nokia-n900.sh#L36 you may add whatever packages you need to be installed in the image Jun 26 23:05:09 very interesting and also pretty easy to guess Jun 26 23:05:20 mhm Jun 26 23:08:32 mhm? Jun 26 23:10:53 I mean - yes, it is interesting and easy :) Jun 26 23:11:24 anyway, I am going to have some sleep Jun 26 23:11:27 night Jun 26 23:12:48 goodnight Jun 27 00:48:12 got a sencond n900 today, so i have an test device now =) Jun 27 02:04:12 Hi freemangordon Jun 27 02:04:44 I have had jessie until last week (now on strech) Jun 27 02:17:45 http://termbin.com/tlua Jun 27 02:20:58 kotczarny shared his n900 chroot with me (I installed on the orange pi ). With that chroot I was able of compiling more than one package (for n900). So the best bet could be something similar for devuan. Perhaps We could prepare a devuan-chroot for orange pi. Then anyone with an h3 device (4 cores) could compile more than one package. That way we could make a list of pendant packages and more than one person could compile it. Jun 27 02:28:29 the idea was to keep the repos, nit to rebuild them Jun 27 02:28:34 not* **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue Jun 27 03:00:07 2017
