If I recall correctly, the Palm TX lacks cellular connectivity and is not even intended to be used as a VoIP telephone. Jan 05 04:22:42 I also have not had a hardware failure with the Dell products I have had (OptiPlex 960 minitower; Vostro V13 notebook; Latitude X1 notebook; P1130 21-inch Trinitron video monitor). When I bought the P1130 used, it had a problem caused by the the value of a parameter in the non-volatile memory (EEPROM?) being out of range and not being reset when telling the video monitor to restore the factory default configuration. I found instructions to manually correct Jan 05 04:22:42 the value of the parameter that went out of range. These instructions worked for me. This is a Trinitron problem, though, not a Dell problem. Trinitron is a Sony product, not a Dell product. Jan 05 04:24:27 Well, I think the power indicator light stopped working or became intermittent on the power supply/AC adapter for the Vostro V13 but it did not matter because the power supply still worked. Jan 05 04:43:07 I forgot to include the PowerEdge 2950 server at work in my list of Dell products. Jan 05 05:04:02 [06:08] Jan 05 05:04:34 I used to be enthusiastic and really want one Jan 05 05:04:47 from what reading I did so far, it's a bit like DOS Jan 05 05:04:57 in terms of memory separation Jan 05 05:10:28 https://twitter.com/Myrkraverk/status/948814886775046144 not unlike this joke Jan 05 05:21:37 hi CatButts) hi all Jan 05 05:21:48 uhllo Jan 05 05:23:06 I also did some testing and asking around for the powerbrick Jan 05 05:23:14 [18:58] i hate those noisy pieces of sh*t Jan 05 05:23:17 no kidding Jan 05 05:23:40 I put PC keyboard on top of laptop to write something Jan 05 05:23:58 PC keyboard input goes haywire Jan 05 05:24:07 PC speaker beeping Jan 05 13:10:28 CatButts: OK. I used to use Palm OS but the newest Palm OS computer I had was the Palm Z22. I should have used Windows Mobile (up to version 6.5) instead of Palm OS. Jan 05 13:22:45 Palm OS originally used the AMX RTOS for m68k from KADAK in my home city, Vancouver, Canada. Jan 05 15:04:58 [15:10] CatButts: OK. I used to use Palm OS but the newest Palm OS computer I had was the Palm Z22. I should have used Windows Mobile (up to version 6.5) instead of Palm OS. Jan 05 15:05:08 I used winmo 6.5 once Jan 05 15:05:25 from what I read, it's hit and miss, depending on the phone Jan 05 15:05:44 Motorola Q9H was a most definite miss Jan 05 18:27:33 CatButts: ACK. Jan 05 20:38:59 * timeless sighs Jan 05 20:39:07 * timeless looks for a grub/systemd expert Jan 05 20:39:27 remove that parasite Jan 05 20:39:28 :) Jan 05 20:39:39 i have a stupid computer that can't load a certain file system, so systemd prompts me for a root password Jan 05 20:39:53 i don't have ssh because it isn't ready yet (Grr) Jan 05 20:40:01 and i don't think anyone knows the root password Jan 05 20:40:13 * timeless is trying to find the right keystroke to talk to bios/boot sequence Jan 05 20:41:40 timeless: IIRC it's "e" on the selected entry to edit it. Jan 05 20:41:55 yes, i can edit, but i don't know what to add :( Jan 05 20:42:10 you're talking about grub, i can talk to grub and edit Jan 05 20:42:14 init=/bin/bash ; then mount -o remount,rw / to edit things Jan 05 20:42:15 but... what do i ask grub to tell what? Jan 05 20:42:19 oh Jan 05 20:42:22 sold. thanks Jan 05 20:45:22 grr, it's still pestering me Jan 05 20:47:45 turns out this system is uefi, so the solution was "system setup", change boot sequence Jan 05 20:48:10 oO Jan 05 20:48:11 yaay for new technology, simplifying lives.. Jan 05 20:48:57 Don't get me started about UEFI - Intel is selling its recent Cherrytrail Atoms with a 32bit EFI. Jan 05 20:49:41 i had a netbook that was 32bit efi Jan 05 20:49:57 which meant i couldn't run w10x64 which means i couldn't use WSL Jan 05 20:56:26 * timeless hates md0/pv/lvm Jan 05 21:09:12 warfare: thanks for the suggestion. in the end efi booting to the stick and then vgchange + mounting the root file system and editing fstab to comment out the missing volume got me where i needed to go Jan 05 21:09:27 * timeless hates that systemd thinks it's a good idea to fail the boot sequence at missing disks Jan 05 21:09:36 that was *never* the way linux/unix worked Jan 05 21:09:46 that's why it's a parasite Jan 05 21:09:54 it always hobbled forward to "sshd" and let people fix things remotely **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Jan 06 03:00:02 2018
