Don't ask if you can ask a question first. Don't ask if a person is there; just ask what you intended to ask them. Better questions more frequently yield better answers. Jan 07 04:15:35 * timeless sighs Jan 07 04:15:43 * timeless starts cursing AWS/EC2 Jan 07 04:16:12 i have 2 instances in AWS, i did an os update of one of them a week ago, and it was totally fine (including a reboot) Jan 07 04:16:40 but i just tried updating (for meltdown), and the system didn't come back after rebooting Jan 07 04:17:04 i just tried rebuilding it (which took a bloody long time), and it too hasn't come up after rebooting Jan 07 04:17:12 up = pingable Jan 07 04:17:18 i.e. i can't ping it Jan 07 04:18:06 https://forums.aws.amazon.com/thread.jspa?messageID=823033 <- looks like i might not be alone Jan 07 06:55:12 CyanogenMod 11 on my Galaxy Note 3 unexpectedly rebooted while installing application but not OS updates for the first time in months, then CyanogenMod got stuck in a boot loop. I used TWRP to clear the Dalvik cache and some other cache. Now the computer just displays the CyanogenMod boot screen forever (for ever?) but no longer reboots by itself. Jan 07 06:58:18 I really want to avoid the huge chore of starting over with a new installation of the Android OS. Jan 07 07:12:25 The battery feels slightly bulgey/swollen again. (fail) Jan 07 07:15:08 brolin_empey: i installed Lineage os 13 in my galaxy tab 2 lately. Works well so far. Jan 07 07:18:47 Vajb: I installed CyanogenMod 11 right after I bought my Galaxy Note 3 in around 2015 May and had been using the same installation of CyanogenMod 11 since then. Jan 07 07:19:53 I should not have wiped more than one thing at once. Jan 07 07:20:26 i wanted to instal it too, but then saw that cyanogenmod is no more and Lineage is it's successor Jan 07 07:21:13 I only wiped caches, which I thought was safe because I assumed that what was cached could be recreated. Jan 07 07:21:37 can u copy it contents via some flashing tool? Jan 07 07:21:48 adb or tw something Jan 07 07:22:57 i think that lineage is preparations asked to clear some caches too. So maybe cache means something else in android camp Jan 07 07:23:00 Vajb: CyanogenMod was still active in 2015 May but the current version was already at least 12 by then. I should have installed version 12 but installed version 11 due to a misunderstanding. Jan 07 07:25:06 look for lineage web page. Flash process is pretty straight forward Jan 07 07:26:10 i got some problems first, but that was because i didn't realize that vol- and power leads to different place than vol+ and power Jan 07 07:28:26 My old CyanogenMod 11 installation actually finally finished booting after multiple minutes but Trebuchet, the launcher used by CyanogenMod, constantly crashes after I unlock the video console. Jan 07 07:30:23 did you install something suspicious Jan 07 07:43:39 I actually did not manually install anything. Since 2017 July or earlier I began using only the celluar network and stopped using Wireless LANs on my handheld computer because I usually do not need to use a Wireless LAN for my use case because I never reach my 2 GB cellular data limit per billing period and I want to avoid privacy issues caused by automatically connecting to a Wireless LAN. My installation of the Android OS is configured so that Jan 07 07:43:39 application updates (using Google Play) are automatically installed only when using a Wireless LAN or other unmetered Internet connection to avoid large bills from large downloads using the cellular data connection. I had not connected to a Wireless LAN for multiple months, maybe not since 2017 July, but I intentionally connected to my Wireless LAN at home on Saturday morning because someone called me via Google Hangouts (VoIP call); the call quality with Jan 07 07:43:39 at least Google Hangouts is too poor when using the cellular network but is OK when using a wired Internet connection (DSL in this case) via a Wireless LAN. So then the Android OS began downloading and installing maybe even at least 5 months worth of queued updates to installed applications. Jan 07 07:53:55 The OS does not run for long enough before rebooting for me to disconnect from the Wireless LAN to stop the automatic installation of application updates. I would have to either disable the Wireless LAN access point on my gateway or block the hardware (MAC) address of the Wireless LAN controller in my handheld computer. Jan 07 08:06:12 I should be able to temporarily remove the MAC address from the allow list because my access point is configured to allow only known MAC addresses to connect. Jan 07 09:03:29 what android version it uses? Lineage 13 uses 6,0. That gave new life to my old tablet. Since most of the apps in play store wouldn't install before. Jan 07 09:59:31 Ideally would be better to have the device "always ask" before connection to WLAN. MAC address filtering is a waste of time as a security measure on WLAN. Jan 07 16:31:23 Vajb: CyanogenMod 11 is based on Android OS 4.4 . Almost everything I have wanted to use on the Android OS still works with Android OS 4.4 . termux requires at least Android OS 5 but that does not matter because I wanted termux so I could run Python on my handheld computer because I use Python, specifically IDLE, as my calculator on my desktop computer but I do not need Python as a calculator for the Android OS because I can use Mathdroid, which still Jan 07 16:31:23 supports Android OS 4.4 . Jan 07 16:34:02 it is a bit newer than the version which i were using. I thing it had something like 3,5. I bought a smart scale which software was not supported, so i finally decided to flash the thing :D Jan 07 16:34:33 kinda like last straw Jan 07 16:37:41 Vajb: OK. Jan 07 17:01:58 i'm rooting my new ma's android phone, and i was wondering.. what exactly is fastboot? can we have that on n900? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Jan 08 03:00:02 2018
