**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed Jun 17 02:59:57 2020 Jun 17 03:10:14 luke-jr: I guess I am confusing Spectre and Meltdown. They were publicly announced years ago so I may have forgotten some of the details. I guess it is Meltdown then to which AMD x86 CPUs are reportedly not vulnerable because the AMD microarchitecture was correctly done in the first place, unlike with Intel and VIA x86 CPUs. Jun 17 07:25:15 AMD and ARM were vulnerable to some Spectre but the dozens of others since have been Intel only. Jun 17 07:27:33 swb: only out-of-order arms were vulnerable Jun 17 07:27:42 a7 is in-order cpu Jun 17 07:30:45 Cortex-A8 in n900 is using a7 cores Jun 17 07:31:25 ARMv7-A Jun 17 07:31:27 specifically Jun 17 07:32:17 Yep Jun 17 07:33:51 I was generalising, the point is there there are so many vulnerabilities for older Intel hardware to patch them all there is no performance. Jun 17 07:34:42 which basically means their whole out-of-order optimisation is a failure Jun 17 07:34:52 and raw power rulez Jun 17 07:35:42 well, if they kept the security of the data intact, it wouldnt Jun 17 07:35:54 k.i.s.s. Jun 17 07:37:16 When you can buy a modern 3.5Ghz Dual core "system" mobo/cpu/ram for around 150USD. I stand by may original comments on spending money on obsolete hardware. Jun 17 07:37:27 yup Jun 17 07:38:03 i recently replaced all my core(2)duo systems with i5 3gen or higher Jun 17 09:05:01 brolin_empey: I cannot get to the APN Configuration. That Menu Item is greyed out Jun 17 09:05:24 brolin_empey: Also Flight Mode is always turned on, and when i try to turn it off, it turns itself on again Jun 17 10:58:46 APic: what android version is that? Jun 17 11:20:14 sicelo: Android 2.3.7 Jun 17 14:55:09 APic: How about using Android on an HTC/T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide instead of on a Nokia N900? Jun 17 16:09:07 brolin_empey: I only have 2 Phones. An LG Nexus 5X and a Nokia N900. I would just like to have a Backup-Phone that can navigate me when the Battery on the Nexus runs empty. I cannot get Routing with modRana under Maemo to work, so i hoped it would work on NITDroid. If i have to buy a new Device, maybe i would be better off with just a Power-Bank instead of a new/old Phone Jun 17 16:09:36 s/it would/Google Maps would/ Jun 17 16:09:36 APic meant: brolin_empey: I only have 2 Phones. I do not know off hand if that model has an easily accessible and removable battery, though. Jun 17 16:50:12 Not easily accessible Jun 17 16:52:03 Yes, I just checked Wikipedia and saw that too. Jun 17 16:57:17 APic: why not get a device for Maemo Leste? :D Jun 17 16:57:26 motorola droid 4 is supercheap on ebay etc Jun 17 16:59:29 thats also a supported device for several of the android compiles out there Jun 17 16:59:36 lineage OS or something Jun 17 16:59:59 (not anymore though) Jun 17 18:20:44 also, the Nexus 5X are known to be defective :x Jun 17 18:44:05 seems to me nitdroid is the round-about way to approach your problem/need Jun 17 23:48:33 Hi. Guys {for media storage} fat32 is the better option? 4 gb limit does not sound right Jun 18 01:20:38 APic: If you like the hardware design of the Nokia N900 but want to run Android, it seems like it would be easier to use an HTC/T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide, which shipped with Android in 2011 (if I recall correctly) and can unofficially run up to somewhat recent versions of Android, have not researched it for maybe already at least a year by now so do not know the current specifics. Jun 18 01:26:27 You could also get an Android smartphone without an integrated hardware keyboard but that otherwise has nice hardware and can unofficially run recent versions of Android, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or maybe the Galaxy Note 4, at least the Snapdragon versions. The Galaxy Note 4 and earlier have an easily accessible and removable battery, which sells new on eBay for <20 CAD if I recall correctly. Jun 18 01:27:16 Then you could just keep at least one spare battery and not need a battery-powered battery charger AKA a power bank. Jun 18 01:27:37 i think he's not looking at buying another device. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu Jun 18 02:59:57 2020
