Aug 13 07:46:25 Trollkarlen: meego.gitorious.org -> os base -> image-configurations Aug 13 07:47:45 Thx' Aug 13 07:52:09 Hi, all! Does someone knows if I can use rsync to create a mirror of MeeGo repository? Aug 13 07:57:14 I could not make it work, but that was in june, so dont know if they changed it. Aug 13 08:32:52 it's too bad gitorious projects don't have spec files for the rpms Aug 13 08:38:33 sivu: extract from srpms? Aug 13 08:41:49 stskeeps, yeah thats what ive been doing Aug 13 08:42:22 sivu: rpm2cpio *.src.rpm | cpio -id should give full content for obs Aug 13 08:52:10 hello Aug 13 08:52:24 afternoon Aug 13 08:52:57 I'm trying to compile PySide on meego Aug 13 08:53:22 according to zypper, the qt version in there is 4.7 Aug 13 08:53:49 but PySide complains that QElapsedTimer, added to QCore in 4.7, is not available Aug 13 08:54:27 and indeed, there is no trace of QElapsedTimer in /usr/include/Qt Aug 13 08:54:37 4.7 what version? Aug 13 08:55:09 4.7.0~prerelease-6.2 Aug 13 09:12:39 thiago: how much does NEON help on qt? Aug 13 09:32:36 Myrtti, is it your birthday by chance? (if so, Happy Birthday!) if not :P Aug 13 09:33:09 has anyone got multiboot 2.5. working with rc6 on mmcblk1px? Aug 13 10:06:48 Stskeeps: quite a bit Aug 13 10:07:00 Stskeeps: 700% improvement in RGB888 to ARGB conversion Aug 13 10:07:03 morning Stskeeps and thiago Aug 13 10:07:11 thiago: is there any way to do run-time enabling of NEON? MeeGo doesn't have NEON in ARMv7 so Aug 13 10:07:43 no Aug 13 10:07:54 ARM chips don't have "cpuid" Aug 13 10:08:00 either you build it with Neon, or you don't Aug 13 10:08:10 Qt builds with Neon unless you choose -no-neon Aug 13 10:08:43 thiago: sure? i thought i saw neon in /proc/cpuinfo earlier, but i guess that kind of detection sucks Aug 13 10:12:03 morn smoku Aug 13 10:12:10 'lo Aug 13 10:12:10 Stskeeps: Yes, you can do runtime detection of NEON. Aug 13 10:13:09 we're looking into performance issues of meego on n900 so Aug 13 10:14:09 Stskeeps: the kinda of performance issues that are very noticeable by the user or the kind where you need to benchmark to detect it? Aug 13 10:14:15 CosmoHill: noticable Aug 13 10:14:25 the worst kind Aug 13 10:15:07 Stskeeps: HWCAP_NEON is your friend. Aug 13 10:15:22 bunk: interesting Aug 13 10:15:59 (but that was added in 2.6.29) Aug 13 10:16:06 stuff like liboil has function vtables and populates them with the fastest available implementations at runtime Aug 13 10:16:10 neon or whatever Aug 13 10:16:34 so its a reasonable technique to build several versions and swap in the quickest you can run Aug 13 10:16:42 but i guess qt doesn't use liboil Aug 13 10:17:00 not likely - but it could structure something similar Aug 13 10:17:14 with a factory, pick the fastest class or whatever Aug 13 10:18:02 depends how localised the performance sensitive code (which benefits most from neon) is Aug 13 10:18:36 btw, are there many meego folks in .au? we've been pondering submitting a meego miniconference to LCA Aug 13 10:18:53 wondering if we'd get enough speakers - any intel folks or nokians going? Aug 13 10:18:54 the QMF peeps are in brisbane aren't they? Aug 13 10:19:12 could anyone suggest way to deal with configuring touchpad properly? Aug 13 10:19:16 yeah, qtmobility and qmf talks would fit there nicely Aug 13 10:19:41 it does support multitouch in win7 and sabayon, i would like to have that functionality in meego too Aug 13 10:19:47 maybe I should ping qgil / dawn in more detail when they arrive Aug 13 10:20:07 currently the driver seams to react rather chaotically to more than one finger on the pad Aug 13 10:20:13 mmeeks: would you come to lca and give a talk at a meego miniconference? :) Aug 13 10:20:21 Robot101, not a meego folk myself yet, but am interested :) Aug 13 10:20:44 so we have 1 audience member too! :) Aug 13 10:20:46 interested in the miniconference if there's one to be held in .au, preferrably Brisbane Aug 13 10:21:03 yeah, lca always has a couple of days for special topic miniconfs Aug 13 10:21:15 so it would be one day or one afternoon with a series of meego talks Aug 13 10:21:21 lca as in linux-conf au? :) Aug 13 10:21:25 yeah Aug 13 10:21:29 if they'd accept the proposal of course Aug 13 10:21:31 ahh thought so :) Aug 13 10:24:06 Robot101: would I like to fly to Australia ? well; we have no travel budget ;-) Aug 13 10:24:23 Robot101: and then there is breaking the news to the family ... Aug 13 10:24:31 Robot101: but it is a kind thought, Aug 13 10:24:44 Robot101: Aaron Bockover might be a good choice ? Aug 13 10:25:06 what, he'll fly anywhere and talk about anything? :) Aug 13 10:27:09 if for example we get enough meego folks/interested meego people in .au I was thinking we could probably pool some money together (via donation) and sponsoring a meego speaker :) Aug 13 10:27:51 well there are a few places to go for sponsorship of travel Aug 13 10:27:54 Robot101: sure, Aaron is good like that. Aug 13 10:28:11 unmarried, and doesn't loathe travelling - as long as there is bacon at the other end... Aug 13 10:28:21 and beer! :) Aug 13 10:28:24 I mean the meego summit is all the way in .ie lol, I really don't have that sort of budget to fly over there Aug 13 10:29:03 psycho_oreos, CONFERENCE Aug 13 10:29:05 *COUGH* Aug 13 10:29:06 :P Aug 13 10:30:06 s/summit/conference/ Aug 13 10:30:06 psycho_oreos meant: I mean the meego conference is all the way in .ie lol, I really don't have that sort of budget to fly over there Aug 13 10:44:51 hi guys, i need to convert some of my games over from appup to meego, totally new to linux, any meego developers here or people here to lend a hand actually getting a dev environment up and running? Aug 13 10:51:44 Dave111: you'll probably need to learn packaging for most parts, and for that a VM instance of any x86-meego environment is golden Aug 13 10:51:57 just a minute, I'll pull some notes how I got started Aug 13 10:52:04 thanks guys Aug 13 10:54:15 follow the installation instructions from here: http://wiki.meego.com/MeeGo_1.0_Netbook_VirtualBox Aug 13 10:54:47 quick question, would anyone be interesting in how to netboot grub2? Aug 13 10:54:49 ahh that looks awesome Aug 13 10:54:57 thank you very much Bostik Aug 13 10:55:02 then there's some nice page that taught me how to write .spec files... Aug 13 10:55:20 hunting it down right now (and no, it's not the deb conversion example; sorry Timo) Aug 13 10:55:35 thanks :D Aug 13 10:56:01 Dave111: at least that way you won't have to break your host system and can contain all the meego-specific trickery in a single (easy to find) VM system ;) Aug 13 10:57:00 Bostik: you can edit the boot loader on meego so that it always boots into init 3 instead of manually telling it to Aug 13 10:57:04 this is a good starting point, http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm/s1-rpm-build-creating-spec-file.html Aug 13 10:57:06 absolutely, this is a big relief Aug 13 10:57:12 great - many thanks Aug 13 10:57:35 CosmoHill: yes, I did that (or actually I edited /etc/inittab for it) and just removed the 'quiet' part from bootloader Aug 13 11:00:08 while I usually do my builds over nfs, for meego I couldn't do that; instead I just installed sshd and git-pushed my packaging efforts inside the VM, editing on host and building inside the VM until it worked Aug 13 11:08:58 Bostik, once meego is up and running, how do i actually develop for it? what tools, and where etc Aug 13 11:10:27 Dave111: you'll need to setup the environment (meego home dir, really) for rpmbuild; just a minute Aug 13 11:10:35 there were nice instructions again someplace Aug 13 11:10:45 awesome, sorry to be so demanding of your time Aug 13 11:11:49 http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-rpm1/ Aug 13 11:11:51 there it was Aug 13 11:12:25 so basically you need to create ~/rpmbuild/{SPECS,SOURCES,RPMS,SRPMS,BUILD} Aug 13 11:13:02 got you, thank you very much, enormously appreciated Aug 13 11:13:13 then to keep things simple, export the current sources into a tarball in rpmbuild/SOURCES/ and modify the .spec file in rpmbuild/SPECS Aug 13 11:13:56 it's best to set up a build script of some kind so it cleans the build and rpm directories before calling rpmbuild so you can keep things really simple Aug 13 11:14:19 thank you, i am a huge fan of simple :D Aug 13 11:15:07 ++ Aug 13 11:15:08 once you get to packaging you'll figure out the different parts of .spec file and how they work so at some point you may want to modify them to streamline your workflow even more but until then, that's a nice starting point :) Aug 13 11:15:12 Dave111, everyone is Aug 13 11:15:48 laziness and desire for comfort are the major driving forces of innovation, as far as I'm concerned Aug 13 11:16:15 i agree :) Aug 13 11:16:20 people are willing to spend quite a lot of effort so they would not need to spend any more further down the line Aug 13 11:19:46 hey vgrade Aug 13 11:26:02 hi CosmoHill Aug 13 11:26:49 just doing some research on OBS building Aug 13 11:27:05 or building on OBS should I say Aug 13 11:51:38 anyone has issue with MT capable touchpads? Aug 13 11:51:48 and netbook obviously Aug 13 11:59:55 holy crap it's suddenly chucking it down Aug 13 12:00:05 gutter is overflowing already and it only started 2 mins ago Aug 13 12:03:26 on the maemo community OBS, trying to build an x86 package seems to be broken Aug 13 12:05:01 see - http://dpaste.com/228478/ Aug 13 12:05:06 can anyone help? Aug 13 12:06:34 arfoll, confirmed. I reported it yesterday to lbt Aug 13 12:07:45 maybe X-Fade could take care of it once he gets back from lunch Aug 13 12:07:58 smoku: ok good to see i'm not just being an idiot as usual Aug 13 12:08:29 arfoll, I'm not so sure. meybe we are both being idiots ;-) Aug 13 12:09:48 smoku, let's hope not! is it normal it's being a little sluggish? Aug 13 12:10:06 this is the first time i've actually used it Aug 13 12:10:21 i couldn't do a checkout in the morning. it stalled in the middle Aug 13 12:11:42 well i've just imported ~500MB and doing a checkout now, it seems ok - just doesn't build Aug 13 12:13:48 arfoll: looking at it atm. Aug 13 12:14:43 x-fade, thanks and good luck - off to lunch Aug 13 12:14:53 arfoll, reported last week just after lbt got back, he's busy on no 2 OBS Aug 13 12:15:31 workaround is to build against the Meego-1.0 Rep not Meego:current Aug 13 12:16:07 vgrade: Yeah, it seems the :current import wasn't completed. Fixing that now. Aug 13 12:16:31 X-Fade, that Aug 13 12:16:47 X-Fade, that's why MeeGo: is missing from download? Aug 13 12:17:00 smoku: no, that is a different issue. Aug 13 12:17:31 I would like to build locally before commiting to OBS Aug 13 12:17:40 seems like everyone is going for an x86 build ATM Aug 13 12:18:04 smoku, thats where I am ATM Aug 13 12:18:06 vgrade: Can you try again? Aug 13 12:18:17 vgrade, it's easier to test on x86 Aug 13 12:19:01 Bostik you are old chap? Aug 13 12:19:28 well.. I'm past 30 Aug 13 12:19:37 if that makes me old, then yes Aug 13 12:19:38 X-Fade, thanks, arfoll can you test, im in the middle of a local build Aug 13 12:19:42 oops i typed that slightly wrong Aug 13 12:19:48 it meant to say are you around old chap Aug 13 12:19:58 not are you old - apologies :D Aug 13 12:20:02 that's why I liked Maemo SDK so much. you develop and debug on x86, and then once finished just switch to arm and repackage the same thing :) Aug 13 12:20:18 I'll be here, and if I'm off I'll stay online anyway Aug 13 12:20:31 i had a question for you if you have a mo Aug 13 12:20:46 * CosmoHill needs to fix his highlights Aug 13 12:20:47 im on the installing virtualbox quest additions from that link Aug 13 12:20:49 smoku: You should be able to do the same for MeeGo though. Aug 13 12:21:06 it says to download DKMS and suggests wget, i dont seem to have this wget thing Aug 13 12:21:39 X-Fade, well... that's what I'm trying to do now. :) but I cannot build locally without required packages Aug 13 12:21:52 you don't necessarily need to do that; but if you want to follow all the way: "sudo zypper refresh; sudo zypper install wget" Aug 13 12:22:06 great thats Aug 13 12:22:32 smoku: That is a bug, not a planned thing. Aug 13 12:22:46 smoku: You should be able to build locally of course. Aug 13 12:22:57 X-Fade, surely understood. waiting for a resolution :) Aug 13 12:28:01 anyone has issue with MT capable touchpads? Aug 13 12:28:31 or even better - does anyone have working multitouch touchpad with meego? Aug 13 12:28:39 driver seems to be proper Aug 13 12:32:22 back in a bit - thank you once again Bostik for all the help and advice Aug 13 12:37:48 vgrade, arfoll: the rpm fail liblua issue should be resolved now. Required a project config change, so it will trigger a rebuild. Aug 13 12:39:23 OBS is busy, busy, busy Aug 13 12:40:19 vgrade: That is the way we like to see it ;) Aug 13 12:43:58 all the x86 builds kicking off ? Aug 13 12:44:15 slaine: All builds against current ;) Aug 13 12:44:45 and a very silly question: where is xorg.conf in meego? Aug 13 12:45:12 There is none Aug 13 12:45:20 interesting Aug 13 12:45:28 not really Aug 13 12:45:34 how can i control seettings that are usualy found in it? Aug 13 12:45:38 Most modern distros are this way Aug 13 12:45:50 Phazorx: what are you looking to control ? Aug 13 12:45:50 X has been able to autoconfigure itself on launch probes for some time now Aug 13 12:46:19 slaine: i'm trying to figure out why touchpad here does not have MT capabilities enablable Aug 13 12:46:32 so i would have liked to look at pointer section in xorg.conf Aug 13 12:47:00 hal is the only way now? Aug 13 12:47:04 No Aug 13 12:47:07 hal is gone Aug 13 12:47:10 so... Aug 13 12:47:11 DeviceKit/udev Aug 13 12:47:16 okay Aug 13 12:47:22 is it policy driven? Aug 13 12:47:31 Or you can create section specific configs on /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d Aug 13 12:47:47 smoku: Your libhildon built fine for i586 now. Aug 13 12:47:57 slaine: i would like to look 1st at what is "assumed" to be the current config Aug 13 12:48:04 X-Fade, watching :) Aug 13 12:48:13 Check out what's in the /tmp/Xorg.0.log then Aug 13 12:48:14 X-Fade, what about local building? :> Aug 13 12:48:21 it'll tell you what it found. Aug 13 12:48:25 smoku: That is next :) Aug 13 12:48:42 i'll get a coffe then Aug 13 12:48:46 X-Fade, thanks alot my two test packages have built. Time to get the rest Aug 13 12:54:44 X-fade, I'm not too good on OBS internals but is the maemo set up to only accept building of up to 8 packages at a time? I don't mind just like to understand Aug 13 12:56:26 actually 10, I just can't count.. Aug 13 12:56:46 arfoll: The test one only has a limited amount of workers yes. It is just one server we had spare. Aug 13 12:57:01 slaine: could you please look at http://pastie.org/1090318 Aug 13 12:58:48 that was a bit clumsy, here is better one: http://pastie.org/1090322 Aug 13 12:59:44 yeah, what do you see there ? Aug 13 13:00:11 i see that it configures it and the drops the driver Aug 13 13:00:22 which is a bit strange to me Aug 13 13:00:38 Can I choose to somewhere ignore 'devel-file-in-non-devel-package' errors? Aug 13 13:00:42 For a mouse device, it finds it as a touchpad before that though and configures it properly Aug 13 13:01:02 slaine: but it unloads driver for it... Aug 13 13:01:22 Stskeeps: hey, just started re-visiting meego on joggler, seen the updates to the wiki, are there any prebuilt images available for a quick play? Aug 13 13:01:51 deegee__: no, but we have .ks'es, ask vgrade Aug 13 13:02:15 Stskeeps: yup seen the ks's Aug 13 13:02:43 Phazorx: this might help you setup an xorg.conf.d for it, http://andreascarpino.it/2010/04/xorg-1-8-synaptics-touchpad-configuration/ Aug 13 13:03:03 slaine: as an override - perhaps Aug 13 13:03:07 You should also read this, http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Input_device_configuration Aug 13 13:03:21 but what xactl is the issue that prevents xorg from using that it can see and configure properly? Aug 13 13:05:30 Phazorx: I don't have your setup so I don't know exactly. Aug 13 13:05:47 slaine: i'm open to sharing any relevant information Aug 13 13:05:57 just let me knoe what exactly would help Aug 13 13:06:06 I've setup touchscreens and saw similar issues Aug 13 13:07:55 Is mic2 suposed to work on ubuntu 9.10 ? Aug 13 13:09:00 slaine: thanks, i tihnk that will help Aug 13 13:09:15 is there a way i can get what options are supported from the driver tho? Aug 13 13:10:05 Phazorx: I had to create a catchall config for evdev to get everything working properly, you might have to do similar. Aug 13 13:10:21 I used google to find my parameters Aug 13 13:11:28 sounds like a challenge Aug 13 13:12:39 while we are on xorg subject - what do i do to adjust brightness if oem buttons are not functional and i dont see acpi handler in /sys/class/backlight ? Aug 13 13:37:00 Hi Aug 13 13:39:03 Hi Aug 13 13:40:51 what do i do to adjust brightness if oem buttons are not functional and i don't see acpi handler in /sys/class/backlight ? Aug 13 13:41:56 nothing Aug 13 13:42:32 or log bugs against kernel's acpi module Aug 13 13:42:34 You wear sunglasses ;) Aug 13 13:42:56 trollkarlen, I had a load of problems with 9.10 with mic, probably due to me installing the wrong things, then getting a new version from git etc etc Aug 13 13:44:17 worked in the end BUT I took the advice from the ARM guys and downloaded a fedora VM. Things seem more solid on this platform Aug 13 13:47:13 I had thought about putting my fedora Vbox image up for download with mic, osc etc configured with example kickstart files but you learn lots just getting the tools in place Aug 13 13:47:51 slaine: i would log abug if i knew how to localize it Aug 13 13:48:07 chances are it is somethin relevant to my specific HW or setup Aug 13 13:50:02 X-Fade, thanks, my packages have built against current now Aug 13 14:02:40 X-Fade, any news? Aug 13 14:03:05 Hi, Does anyone know where I could get info on the differences between the IVI and the netbook image? Aug 13 14:03:18 It should just work through the api too, which is the fallback. Aug 13 14:03:25 daisy21: meego.gitorious.org -> os base -> image-configurations and package-groups Aug 13 14:03:27 Looking at what can cause timeouts. Aug 13 14:04:35 vgrade / Stskeeps : working through creating a joggler meego ivi ux image on fedora now... Aug 13 14:04:43 so far so good. Aug 13 14:06:07 Stskeeps what will this page give me? Aug 13 14:11:58 arfoll: Do local builds work for you? Aug 13 14:12:03 daisy21: will tell you the contents of images Aug 13 14:12:27 Ok cool thanks! Aug 13 14:14:21 X-fade, what do you mean? Aug 13 14:14:29 I Aug 13 14:18:03 X-Fade, I get, trying openSUSE Build Service server for bash (MeeGo:current), since it is not on download.obs.maemo.org Aug 13 14:18:51 this times out and freezes, restarting the build kicks it into life but is stops again after Aug 13 14:19:51 vgrade: Ok that sounds exactly like what smoku sees ;) Aug 13 14:20:37 http://download.obs.maemo.org/ Aug 13 14:20:46 there is no MeeGo:/ here Aug 13 14:21:32 deegee cool, I have some edits to make to the ks file to sort out the initial black screen issue, see the kickstart on openaos. http://svn.openaos.org/svn/openaos/trunk/meego/archos9/archos9.ks Aug 13 14:32:47 damn... I planned to spend this day packaging software for MeeGo. instead I spent it waiting for OBS to be fixed Aug 13 14:33:08 smoku: i know this feeling by heart, back when meego obs in general was unstable Aug 13 14:33:08 :P Aug 13 14:36:30 chill, smoku, Aug 13 14:36:49 what were you building Aug 13 14:36:53 or not Aug 13 14:37:05 smoku: anyway, community obs is in beta and should hopefully have the child diseases out of it soon :) Aug 13 14:37:11 smoku: Can you try now? Aug 13 14:38:54 X-Fade, not now going to SUSE OBS but still time outs for me Aug 13 14:39:50 deleted the /var/tmp cache before I tried that Aug 13 14:41:29 is there a command to slow down the downloads ala wget, Aug 13 14:41:51 it works fine for a few seconds then stops Aug 13 14:44:18 X-Fade, a bit better Aug 13 14:44:20 (MeeGo:current) rpm-4.8.1-2.6.i586.rpm 52% |===================== | 288 kB 00:00 ETA Aug 13 14:44:30 seems like downloading from obs Aug 13 14:44:38 but it stopped at this 52% Aug 13 14:45:11 vgrade, i'm cool. i'm building libhildon Aug 13 14:45:41 smoku: try again? :) Aug 13 14:46:08 this time bash Aug 13 14:46:10 (MeeGo:current) rpm-4.8.1-2.6.i586.rpm 52% |===================== | 288 kB 00:00 ETA Aug 13 14:46:16 (MeeGo:current) bash-4.0.35-3.8.i586.rpm 7% |=== | 80 kB 00:03 ETA Aug 13 14:46:21 stopped at 7% Aug 13 14:48:03 and after some time it moved to getting it from openSUSE Aug 13 14:48:29 Yeah, it doesn't get it from openSUSE though, that is just osc being dumb. Aug 13 14:49:02 OBS is really made for openSUSE and they show it everywhere. (But it is fetching from api.obs.maemo.org in this case) Aug 13 14:50:18 http://pastebin.com/tFPDVryE this from debug, looks like it looks in cache, then download then api, the download one has too many // Aug 13 14:51:49 vgrade: Yes, but that should just work. Aug 13 16:14:41 Dave321: yeah, we've had mixed success with the GL forwarding under kvm. My Arrandale laptop runs it pretty well when I build a 64 bit qemu from source, but the distributed 32 bit binaries fail on both this and a 32 bit machine next to it. We've also had trouble getting it ported to recent code -- the newer Xorg hangs at startup, which sounds like your bug. Aug 13 16:14:59 now why the hell would that set off my highlight.,.. Aug 13 16:15:01 But FWIW: MeeGo core runs great in a vm. I build in it routinely. Aug 13 16:15:07 deegeehi, Aug 13 16:15:25 can some say "---" Aug 13 16:15:30 which ks did you build, one from jogglerwiki? Aug 13 16:16:02 ok, i have my own OBS server set up Aug 13 16:16:07 at least i think i do Aug 13 16:16:38 from where can I mirror the meego project files? (with obs_mirror_project) Aug 13 16:17:08 thanks andy, is there no solution to my xorg hanging problems at the moment? Aug 13 16:18:00 Try building qemu from the source on gitorious? That worked for at least one box. But the bigger problem is that you'll be stuck at an early-july snapshot for a lot of things, and will have to (very carefully) pick your upgrades so as not to break it. Aug 13 16:18:29 thanks andy will give that a try Aug 13 16:20:40 hi all Aug 13 16:21:43 sup Aug 13 16:26:44 screen -l Aug 13 16:26:47 anyone with nvidia hardware willing to tackle getting support in meego? http://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3653 Aug 13 16:26:47 screen -r Aug 13 16:26:50 lolol Aug 13 16:30:07 deegee, new ks for mouse and kb on joggler wiki, I also have to power off joggler and then usb hub, then on with the hub and then joggler to get the stick/mouse and kb to be picked up everytime Aug 13 16:37:20 deegee, add matchbox-keyboard to the list of packages in the ks, not used it myself but the archos guys use it Aug 13 17:03:35 X-Fade,Lbt, The Goto Repositories link on the OBS GUI points to http://downloads.obs.maemo.org/home:/vgrade/... instead of http://download.obs.maemo.org/home:/vgrade/... Aug 13 17:06:00 vgrade: sorry missed your msgs... Aug 13 17:06:12 vgrade: thanks for the tips on hub/joggler order will try that Aug 13 17:06:45 vgrade: and will try with the new kickstart also Aug 13 17:07:18 vgrade: the joggler's just taken a giant leap forward in usability if I can get over these few hurdles Aug 13 17:07:47 vgrade: I've also found some stunning looking copper heatsinks that should fit the joggler Aug 13 17:09:25 is there a proper solution for multipe dhcp based networks and resolv.conf being blanked on reboot? Aug 13 17:11:06 * w00t_ tries hard not to facepalm over -dev Aug 13 17:16:51 I have to say, mic2 is quite a nice tool to use Aug 13 17:18:35 deegee, yes once you can get it installed Aug 13 17:21:54 vgrade: easy with fedora ;o) Aug 13 17:22:35 vgrade: just rsyncing my new build across to the usb stick Aug 13 17:22:51 vgrade: what's the black screen problem you mentioned a while back? Aug 13 17:25:13 if you install the netbook UX the GUI did not start cleanly, is needed some command line stuff to get X up, still not got to the bottom of it but running X as root (yes I know thats bad) works round it Aug 13 17:25:38 Handset UX also needs some command line stuff to get that up Aug 13 17:25:45 vgrade: ahh ok, which is why I'm not seeing it running the IGI UX Aug 13 17:26:12 vgrade: thx Aug 13 17:27:22 vgrade: when I *do* get things running... is there anything that I need to look out for that's not working currently? Aug 13 17:31:18 usual Joggler stuf really, issues because its not got a bb RTC, no MAC on the wired eth0, audio crackling. There is some commands to get network up on the wiki. Other info on the other issues can be found on jogglerwiki in ubuntu, debian, Arch areas. Most, if not all snags have been sorted in one or more distos and waiting to be transtioned over to the Joggler Aug 13 17:31:46 to Meego Aug 13 17:32:41 vgrade: ok, that's cool, nothing new to troubleshoot then :o) Aug 13 17:32:56 * deegee__ heads off to try his latest build Aug 13 17:40:47 vgrade: power on order seems to mostly fix the kbd/mouse access... Aug 13 17:41:11 vgrade: but can't get it to enable the wifi/create a new connection Aug 13 17:41:17 vgrade: will have a fiddle with it Aug 13 17:41:26 vgrade: thanks Aug 13 17:44:56 so, hopefully there is an easy solution... Aug 13 17:45:12 is there a way that after you have installed libmeegotouch for it to *not* be used as the default style? Aug 13 18:09:24 deegee, wifi has caused problems on n900 as well Aug 13 18:09:53 not looked at it myself but BuBu has this line in his ks which sorted it for him Aug 13 18:11:34 Does anyone happen to know how one tells a (local) Qt installation what the default style is? After I have installed libmeegotouch, I have to manually specify "-style gtk+" on everything if I don't want it to come up in Meego. Aug 13 18:11:38 echo "wpa_supplicant -ieth0 -Dwext -u -B >/dev/null 2>&1" >>$INSTALL_ROOT/etc/rc.local Aug 13 18:12:20 also I'm not sure if the kernel you have in that ks has the wifi mod in it Aug 13 18:13:32 someone ought to report there is a dbus activation problem Aug 13 18:16:14 GordonS, use qtconfig Aug 13 18:16:31 I tried that; it says "Desktop settings". Aug 13 18:16:32 iirc, you can select the default style Aug 13 18:17:47 If I launch something built against the system Qt, it comes up in Oxygen (which is what my system settings is set to). Aug 13 18:18:01 But, if I launch something built against my local install, it always comes up in Meego. Aug 13 18:19:54 so select gtk+ ? Aug 13 18:20:21 i don't like hybrid environments Aug 13 18:23:35 vgrade: interesting, will take a look Aug 13 18:23:59 vgrade: my issue is that it initially wouldn't even enable wifi, the toggle switch kept flipping back to off... Aug 13 18:24:18 vgrade: but after rebooting it's behaving itself now, and allowing me to add a new connection Aug 13 18:24:31 vgrade: but it won't actually associate to anything Aug 13 18:24:43 vgrade: I'll have a dig into whats going on later Aug 13 18:28:44 Stskeeps, yes I did see somthing today about someone asking what brought wifi up Aug 13 19:10:28 hi, can i use Nokia Qt SDK to make Handset MeeGo apps? Aug 13 19:11:18 I believe so but I'm not the person to ask Aug 13 19:11:25 more or less, yes Aug 13 19:12:51 So, Nokia Qt SDK or so MeeGo SDK Aug 13 19:13:30 I want making apps for handset Aug 13 19:14:29 do you want to make apps in Qt? Aug 13 19:14:48 Yup, Qt and C++ Aug 13 19:15:14 well the nokia sdk is probably easier to use for that Aug 13 19:15:45 it might not be 100% compatible with meego but you are unlikely to run into any real issues and recompiling the code with meego sdk should be trivial anyway Aug 13 19:16:05 otoh meego sdk lets you make apps using other libraries than qt Aug 13 19:24:48 hey guys... im using garage with a custom list and repository, with many applications... it happens that after installing/removing some applications, it gets stuck and the next application i try to install goes to the queue and nothing happens after... it stays at "Installing ..." can anyone help me with that? Aug 13 19:25:00 thx ali1234 Aug 13 19:29:02 Hello, does anyone know if the garage has an ebook reader or if there is an ebook reader app for meego yet? (IMHO) Aug 13 20:10:32 tink ivi desktop would be cool for something like smart r5 Aug 13 20:10:41 for reading ebooks Aug 13 20:10:51 sabayonuser: Yes you can just download and burn the image Aug 13 20:11:11 the r5 seems a bit overpriced Aug 13 20:11:13 But I think it has to be an intel CPU with ss3 Aug 13 20:11:15 ColdSun: think there is too much commercial interest in meego for it just to die :) Aug 13 20:11:25 good! Aug 13 20:31:24 or even how do i go about finding a reason for that? Aug 13 20:31:35 and installed it easily Aug 13 20:31:47 btw, to create a live usb, is fedora the only choice? Aug 13 20:31:54 idk Aug 13 20:32:04 sabayonuser: No almost any distro Aug 13 20:32:15 and do you hvae to worry about filesystems? Aug 13 20:32:16 but that's my first my first choice Aug 13 20:32:19 sabayonuser: Check out pendrivelinux Aug 13 20:32:26 unetbootin sems to be a choice for UFD based linux Aug 13 20:32:53 afaik, a lot of distros integrated moblin Aug 13 20:32:59 soon to be meego Aug 13 20:33:05 Nexus1: oh yes.. hear of that Aug 13 20:33:11 *d Aug 13 20:34:10 so liveusb-creator can be used too? Aug 13 20:36:23 creating a live usb or cd Aug 13 20:36:25 sabayonuser: I would rather download the iso off of bittorrent since it automatically checks the download Aug 13 20:36:53 ok.. cool Aug 13 20:37:34 taljurf: just wanted to know what choices are there for the usb Aug 13 20:38:19 u mean distros? Aug 13 20:39:05 sabayonuser: Ubuntu, linux mint, fedora, opensuse, pclinux, and many more Aug 13 20:39:08 when you burn an ISO to a cd the burner software has to tools to make it a live environment.. and similar for a live usb creator.. right? Aug 13 20:39:37 burning an iso to a cd is normal Aug 13 20:39:49 u don't need any specail operation Aug 13 20:39:58 just burn it and boot Aug 13 20:40:00 Nexus1: i have all those on a cd/dvd// and they are great.. just waiting to get the optimum hardware so i can start installing some of these Aug 13 20:40:07 at the moment i am limited Aug 13 20:40:24 but to a usb u should use a tool to make it bootable Aug 13 20:40:37 taljurf: yes.. i have done many of those.. but never created a live usb Aug 13 20:40:49 right Aug 13 20:41:15 first format it using this tool Aug 13 20:41:15 http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197 Aug 13 20:41:20 to make it bootable Aug 13 20:41:24 sabayonuser: Ifyou have a live cd for ubuntu and mint, they have a preinstalled tool to create a live USB Aug 13 20:41:41 then use any usb creating tool Aug 13 20:42:08 btw, some creating tools can make it bootable Aug 13 20:42:14 Nexus1: and that tool can be used to create a live usb for any distro? Aug 13 20:42:29 taljurf: cool Aug 13 20:42:55 in my case, when i create a bootable fedora usb Aug 13 20:43:05 i use the hp tool first Aug 13 20:43:23 i saw a little demo for the "sugar on a stick" Aug 13 20:43:24 then, i use fedora liveusb creator Aug 13 20:43:33 they used "liveusb-creator" Aug 13 20:43:42 ah Aug 13 20:43:44 :) Aug 13 20:43:46 yea, that's the one i use Aug 13 20:44:04 tripzero: sorry, went afk... Aug 13 20:44:05 then u have a ready live usb :) Aug 13 20:44:05 sabayonuser: I'm not sure, think it's only for that distro Aug 13 20:44:16 Nexus1: i c Aug 13 20:44:35 Nexus1: what is it? Aug 13 20:44:36 I don't much like multiple environments either, but I can't exactly have a different OS install for each version of Qt that I need... Aug 13 20:44:48 so meego and moblin are similar? Aug 13 20:44:58 they're now merged :) Aug 13 20:45:13 sabayonuser: Yes they are very similar Aug 13 20:45:15 moblin was release a year ago Aug 13 20:45:17 oh Aug 13 20:45:24 meego, still to come :) Aug 13 20:46:06 taljurf: I don't remember but I think it's under system >admin Aug 13 20:46:11 GordonS, yeah, i usually install a distro which has the latest Aug 13 20:46:18 and use that Aug 13 20:46:25 moblin 2.1 release on nov, 2009 is the latest? Aug 13 20:46:30 Nexus1: what is it? Aug 13 20:46:41 or, i backport qt from a future-possibly-still-alpha distro to my stable one Aug 13 20:46:56 well... first, I need Meego libs, and second, I need to be able to target different Qt versions depending on the customer... Aug 13 20:47:12 Nexus1: USB creator Aug 13 20:47:24 was there supposed to be a 1.0.80.15 build today? Aug 13 20:47:38 I already have three OSes installed natively on this machine :) Aug 13 20:47:49 GordonS, do you distribute binaries? i use a virtual machine if i need to target other platforms Aug 13 20:47:58 but for development, it's all bleeding edge Aug 13 20:48:15 tripzero: no, but even with ABI compatibility, sometimes behaviours change Aug 13 20:48:15 Nexus1: i have it in fedora under Applications>>System Tools Aug 13 20:48:29 and I can't target bleeding-edge for a customer that I know will use 4.7 Aug 13 20:48:34 wow, beta is only 6 days away Aug 13 20:48:38 or 4.6 even Aug 13 20:49:15 trolls gone... Aug 13 20:49:31 what troll? Aug 13 20:49:38 The "you go?" guy? Aug 13 20:49:41 is meego IVI different from regular meego? Aug 13 20:50:26 aimed at cars Aug 13 20:50:34 /netsplit Trolls Aug 13 20:50:42 sabayonuser: may I suggest you stop using sabayon and start using gentoo Aug 13 20:51:15 so if i was trying out a live cd then which one to download Aug 13 20:51:15 ScottishDuck: Sabayon is gentoo based Aug 13 20:51:20 I still boggle at the idea of using Gentoo for a "live" system... :) Aug 13 20:51:31 GordonS: you put the CD in, it starts compiling? Aug 13 20:51:32 it's great for embedded or heavily customized stuff though Aug 13 20:51:34 ScottishDuck: i just happened to be using a livecd of Sabayon... Aug 13 20:51:40 aha Aug 13 20:51:52 Nexus1: based yes, it uses binaries Aug 13 20:51:56 sorry, not quite what I meant Aug 13 20:52:10 I meant as in a normal desktop or server type system Aug 13 20:52:24 ScottishDuck: more like it offers binaries as preferd option Aug 13 20:52:36 but in general you get best of both worlds with sabayon Aug 13 20:52:51 not really Aug 13 20:52:54 it's pretty shoddy Aug 13 20:52:57 it's most hardware friendly binary based distro i seen at least Aug 13 20:53:16 ScottishDuck: i like it so far :) Aug 13 20:53:26 Phazorx: that *used* to be ... err... Aug 13 20:53:27 * thiago_home should try his string-comparison optimisations on the Atom processor Aug 13 20:53:28 eh Aug 13 20:53:31 I can't remember the bloody name Aug 13 20:53:37 pretty stable and has a lot of stuff on this live cd Aug 13 20:53:37 on the i7, SSE2 is the fastest Aug 13 20:53:41 GordonS: mint? Aug 13 20:53:45 er... sec Aug 13 20:54:06 Knoppix, that's the one. Aug 13 20:54:15 I use gentoo because I like to tinker Aug 13 20:54:16 knoppix is kinda gentoo :) Aug 13 20:54:19 but that's ~3yo information Aug 13 20:54:23 *blink* it is? Aug 13 20:54:28 I thought Knoppix was a Debian. Aug 13 20:54:43 thiago_home: on i7, is sse2 even faster than the core i7 string ops ? Aug 13 20:54:48 that'd be surprising Aug 13 20:54:50 * taljurf proudly uses FEDORA! :) Aug 13 20:54:51 arjan: that was my result Aug 13 20:55:04 doesn't match what we get by a mile Aug 13 20:55:07 but hey ;) Aug 13 20:55:26 arjan: SSE2 > SSE2 + alignment > plain code > SSE4.2 > SSSE3 > trying to optimise plain code with int loads Aug 13 20:55:33 (I meant the sse4.2 stuff) Aug 13 20:55:34 taljurf: I realize that my experiences are not representative... but I have not managed to complete an install of Red Hat or Fedora since before there *was* a Fedora... Aug 13 20:55:45 Fedora is a nice hat, unstable distro Aug 13 20:56:05 arjan: I've been reading the glibc assembly to see what crafy things it tries to do to the string ops, but nothing special turns up Aug 13 20:56:06 F12 and F13 are rock solid Aug 13 20:56:10 sabayonuser: I like sabayons theme, but in terms of user friendliness I like meego and ubuntu Aug 13 20:56:21 arjan: and it's very hard to find examples of pcmpestrm (explicit length) Aug 13 20:56:29 i still cant befriend meego to my hardware :( Aug 13 20:56:46 seriously... I don't have a single machine that can run it sanely Aug 13 20:56:47 using sabayon liveusb as a rescue tool :) Aug 13 20:56:48 Gordons, ScottishDuck, Try F13, Rock Solid :) Aug 13 20:56:50 nothing with Intel graphics Aug 13 20:56:54 nah Aug 13 20:57:07 I'll stick with built from source, fully user configured :) Aug 13 20:57:20 too damn much work, I don't have time :) Aug 13 20:57:22 tried it ? Aug 13 20:57:32 what work? Aug 13 20:57:38 arjan: do you happen to know if pcmpestrm will cause a #GP if part of the quad-dword is on invalid pages (beyond the explicit length)? Aug 13 20:58:17 Nexus1: not sure which one to download, (moblin, meego, meego IVI) Aug 13 20:58:35 sabayonuser, meego, i think :) Aug 13 20:58:37 sabayonuser: I'll give you a link Aug 13 20:59:26 does meego have everything that meego IVI has except the car stuff? Aug 13 20:59:49 http://meego.com/downloads/releases/1.0/meego-v1.0-netbooks-google-chrome-browser Aug 13 20:59:53 sabayonuser: define "meego" Aug 13 21:00:03 Hi. where i can find meego ivi documentation? Aug 13 21:00:07 meego is not one single thing; meego is an OS that addresses multiple verticals Aug 13 21:00:19 netbook, ivi and soon phone and tv and such Aug 13 21:00:58 sabayonuser, so meego, and meego ivi are different Aug 13 21:00:59 arjan: thanks Aug 13 21:01:13 arjan: and an API :-P Aug 13 21:01:20 sabayonuser, like windows and windows mobile Aug 13 21:01:34 thiago: the netsplit is a lot more impressive-looking in #qt-labs :) Aug 13 21:01:40 got it.. but just wanted to know the difference is only the car stuff? Aug 13 21:01:53 taljurf: got it Aug 13 21:02:04 :) Aug 13 21:02:04 so meego is the big daddy? Aug 13 21:02:07 :) Aug 13 21:02:13 Parent Aug 13 21:02:19 exactly ;) Aug 13 21:02:24 arjan: I'm pretty sure my benchmarks are wrong though, but valgrind doesn't handle SSE4 Aug 13 21:02:25 sabayonuser: meego ivi is not made to be installed on computers Aug 13 21:02:32 and IVI and others will be a spin Aug 13 21:02:34 arjan: I need a different tool. What do you recommend? Aug 13 21:02:35 Stskeeps, Have I missed the beer Aug 13 21:02:45 Nexus1, depends on how you define "computer" Aug 13 21:02:47 ;) Aug 13 21:03:00 Meego is a base which a full UX is built upon Aug 13 21:03:02 Nexus1: but can i still use it as a live cd to play around? Aug 13 21:03:43 ivi is an iso so yes Aug 13 21:03:57 i understand the diff OS is written for diff devices, Aug 13 21:04:00 tripzero: You know what i mean, no need to be so technicle, but i meant desktop computers or laptop computers Aug 13 21:04:20 and IVI is targetted towards the car market Aug 13 21:04:29 Nexus1, ;) Aug 13 21:04:34 sabayonuser: No, just usethelink i gave you Aug 13 21:04:46 ok Aug 13 21:05:08 Nexus1, some people run desktop computers/laptops in their car. that's why i said that Aug 13 21:06:47 Nexus1: since the link you gave is for netbooks.. can it still be used for desktops/laptops Aug 13 21:07:08 tripzero: Meego IVIisa new os beingcreayed as an automobile dashboard OS Aug 13 21:07:11 like arjan said.. about ss3 Aug 13 21:07:14 sabayon: as long as you have Intel graphics Aug 13 21:07:21 sabayonuser: Yes i am using it on a desktop Aug 13 21:07:24 oh Aug 13 21:07:25 sabayonuser: and intel cpu Aug 13 21:07:28 indeed Aug 13 21:07:35 well i have dell p4 1.7Ghz, 1Gig Ram, nvidia,\ Aug 13 21:07:39 though I have heard rumour of it working on recent AMD Aug 13 21:07:43 sabayonuser: won;t work Aug 13 21:07:46 but no worky on nVidia right now Aug 13 21:07:48 too old Aug 13 21:07:51 I hope to fix that... Aug 13 21:07:57 the nVidia part I mean Aug 13 21:08:00 you just said intel cpu Aug 13 21:08:07 dell has intell cpu Aug 13 21:08:12 sabayonuser: recent intel cpu Aug 13 21:08:17 [15:07:06] sabayonuser: as long as you have Intel graphics Aug 13 21:08:18 core 2 or better Aug 13 21:08:23 or atmo Aug 13 21:08:24 ah Aug 13 21:08:26 atom even Aug 13 21:08:48 so a live usb/cd wont work on my hardware then? Aug 13 21:08:57 hell no Aug 13 21:09:01 i guess that is a sill y question Aug 13 21:09:31 i don't think it is a silly question Aug 13 21:09:46 i think it's silly that you can't run it personally. but there you go. Aug 13 21:09:58 :) Aug 13 21:10:22 i was just looking forward to creating a live cd and testing it out Aug 13 21:10:34 but i guess that is not going to work on my hardware Aug 13 21:11:18 Nexus1, I'm well familiar with what MeeGo IVI is. ;) Aug 13 21:11:47 well.. btw, i just remembered that i had that experience with "android" live cd. it booted to show my "Android" and sat there till i asked him for tea Aug 13 21:13:04 sabayonuser: Well if you get a new computer in the future with intel CPU then make sure to try it Aug 13 21:13:21 :).. can't wait Aug 13 21:13:51 just so confused about what to get so as to minimize all these limitations Aug 13 21:14:11 what cpu/mem/hd/graphics/ etc Aug 13 21:14:22 what is the optimum system? :) Aug 13 21:14:41 lotsa memory, lotsa cores, lotsa disk Aug 13 21:14:43 i was thinking ivi becouse it looks promising but were i can find it's future plans? everytime i pick one couple new ones step in. it's really hard to target one platform. Aug 13 21:14:55 is intel better than amd Aug 13 21:15:09 I think an hexcore 12-thread i7 with 8GB RAM and a 200 GB SSD, with a 1 GB NVidia 9600 is a good start Aug 13 21:16:02 but i hear that i5 does something better than i7... is that true? Aug 13 21:16:11 no Aug 13 21:16:24 i don't know what exactly.. just heard it in a computer shop yestereday Aug 13 21:16:30 the only thing it might do better is it might use less electricity Aug 13 21:16:38 hehe Aug 13 21:16:39 lol Aug 13 21:16:56 all i would say is 1. hyperthreading sucks Aug 13 21:16:59 ok. i have a question about noise Aug 13 21:17:05 is there a noiseless system Aug 13 21:17:06 sabayonuser: A netbook with intel atom or a computer/laptop with intel core2duo, pentium dual core, core 13, core 15, core i7 should all work.... Memory doesn't matter, but at least 1 gig would be nice....hd doesn't matter... Not sureabout graphics though Aug 13 21:17:13 and 2. amd is cheaper than intel for the same spec, if you include the price of motherboard and ram Aug 13 21:17:50 Sorry I ment i3 and i5 instead of 13 and 15 Aug 13 21:17:58 and what about heat Aug 13 21:18:16 all1234: but Aug 13 21:18:28 i hear some OS run producing less heat Aug 13 21:18:36 ali1234: Meego won't run on amd CPU Aug 13 21:18:41 Nexus1: yes, i know Aug 13 21:19:14 Nexus1: that's not a good reason to buy intel instead of amd. in fact, it is a good reason to buy amd instead of intel imo Aug 13 21:19:33 then comes the fact which drivers are easily available for which OS Aug 13 21:19:45 gosh.. decisions decisions Aug 13 21:20:10 in linux i meant Aug 13 21:20:24 i'm donne with 'indoz Aug 13 21:20:48 don't want to see it unless its attached to my house Aug 13 21:20:50 lol Aug 13 21:20:58 Can anyone tell who is contact person for meego ivi? Aug 13 21:21:40 zariz: on which subject? Aug 13 21:24:06 defining one's application/needs it has become impossible to just have one machine .. multiple hardware has become mandatory.. Aug 13 21:24:25 http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/26/meego-becomes-infotainment-operating-system-of-choice-for-bmw-g/ Aug 13 21:25:01 hardware and software battle continues.. hard punches and soft punches Aug 13 21:25:03 lol Aug 13 21:25:59 Nexus1: i'm asuming they mean the IVI version . right? Aug 13 21:26:10 sabayonuser: Yes Aug 13 21:26:17 k Aug 13 21:27:00 i should have read it first.. it does say "...infotainment.." Aug 13 21:27:01 lol Aug 13 21:27:10 I think that's gonna be real cool... Programmers will be able to develop software for their dashboards Aug 13 21:27:36 it better be voice operated Aug 13 21:27:38 :) Aug 13 21:28:23 if you ask it to avoid traffic.. with the machine fly? Aug 13 21:28:25 :) Aug 13 21:28:31 I'm pretty sure they have thought of that ;) Aug 13 21:28:43 rofl Aug 13 21:30:48 i have a at&t tilt.. phone.. with windows mobile.. can meego be installed on that Aug 13 21:31:48 or is that a silly question? Aug 13 21:32:01 sabayonuser: what processor does that have? Do you have a flasher tool for that phone? Aug 13 21:32:19 well. Aug 13 21:32:20 it's a htc, probably snapdragon or msm Aug 13 21:32:36 ali1234: yep htc Aug 13 21:32:46 nearly all of them are hacked now Aug 13 21:33:03 have to look for the docs for the processor.. but i'm sure ali1234 is right Aug 13 21:33:12 there is almost certainly an android for it, i expect meego builds on htc to start popping up as someone explains how the hell we're supposed to compile it Aug 13 21:33:17 ali1234: so it is possible? Aug 13 21:33:23 possible, sure Aug 13 21:33:29 ARMv7 generic builds are done Aug 13 21:33:33 the question is hardware adaptation Aug 13 21:33:35 i think tilt is kaiser actually Aug 13 21:33:49 ARM hardware varies quite a lot, and unlike x86, there's very little in terms of detection Aug 13 21:33:50 which is armv5 iirc Aug 13 21:34:06 why should there be? You know what hardware you put on your device :-) Aug 13 21:34:20 yes, i know, i work on a linux port to one of these htc phones Aug 13 21:34:23 it's a damn mess Aug 13 21:34:25 sabayonuser: no, meego os for cell phones is still not stable... It's not even in beta yet Aug 13 21:34:28 if you don't have docs Aug 13 21:34:33 but there's not much we can do about it Aug 13 21:35:33 sabayonuser: in mean time you can play with this: http://www.androidonhtc.com/wiki/Latest_Builds_(Kaiser) Aug 13 21:37:16 of course kaiser only has QVGA - i'm not expecting meego interface to work on such a low res, not without a lot of hacking anyway Aug 13 21:37:27 also it has no hw3d Aug 13 21:37:51 thiago_home: i don't have a flasher tool.. although i remember downloading something.. but never used it Aug 13 21:38:09 MSG thiago_home I like to know developent cource for meego ivi. So i can integrate my application for it Aug 13 21:38:42 Nexus1: but on the web site it says something about handheld devices Aug 13 21:38:45 zariz: Have you checked the meego website? Aug 13 21:38:52 zariz: all the source is online Aug 13 21:39:00 zariz: not sure there are images for IVI yet Aug 13 21:39:45 zariz: the easiest way, for now, is to get a netbook image and develop inside Aug 13 21:39:49 SDKs are coming soon Aug 13 21:40:02 ali1234: so android can be installed? Aug 13 21:40:07 yes Aug 13 21:40:17 sabayonuser: Yes but as it says on the right it's only a developer preview Aug 13 21:40:18 it might not work with all hardware, i don't know Aug 13 21:40:25 ok.. i've never done something like this.. so what is my first step Aug 13 21:40:38 Nexus1: oh Aug 13 21:40:47 sabayonuser: this isn't really the right place to talk about it Aug 13 21:40:59 its a tilt 8900 family Aug 13 21:41:07 ok Aug 13 21:41:12 sorry Aug 13 21:41:15 sovvy Aug 13 21:41:17 lol Aug 13 21:41:26 you'll have to read the wiki i linked to Aug 13 21:42:23 sabayonuser: Check the android channel or android-dev channel Aug 13 21:43:00 ali1234: Nexus1 ok.. Aug 13 21:43:17 actually htc people are all in #htc-linux, but they're all kernel developers and don't much like getting "how i install android?" questions Aug 13 21:43:32 lol Aug 13 21:43:37 ok.. won't ask Aug 13 21:43:54 there's a guide on that wiki anyway Aug 13 21:44:24 ok another question.. is android better that the windows moble 6 pro Aug 13 21:44:39 for the htc i mean Aug 13 21:44:41 at least it's Linux Aug 13 21:44:55 but you should ask that question to people who have tried both on that hardware Aug 13 21:44:56 thiago_home: true Aug 13 21:44:58 this is #meego Aug 13 21:45:31 Alright gonna go now bye everyone Aug 13 21:45:40 yes.. just drifted coz i really would like to see meego on mobile Aug 13 21:45:53 somehow you set off my highlight Aug 13 21:45:59 good evning everyone .o/ Aug 13 21:46:02 we're working on it... well, i am Aug 13 21:46:09 meego on htc i mean Aug 13 21:46:19 ah Aug 13 21:46:23 nice Aug 13 21:46:37 although it's probably going to end up as meego ui on top of gentoo on htc, because i'll be damned if i can figure out how OBS works Aug 13 21:47:09 well the HD2 seems like a good candidate for meego Aug 13 21:47:12 and that's if meego ui can even be coaxed to work on 320x240 screen Aug 13 21:47:32 limitations Aug 13 21:47:36 got it Aug 13 21:47:50 make different apps Aug 13 21:47:58 if not, then it will be "some bits of meego running in gpe running on gentoo running on htc" Aug 13 21:48:09 MeeGo requires HW acceleration though Aug 13 21:48:43 i assume it is only the window manager that needsit? Aug 13 21:48:49 too many layers Aug 13 21:49:00 it's not Aug 13 21:49:01 ali1234: mcompositor needs it Aug 13 21:49:12 (but it could do s/w rendering if someone wrote a backend for it) Aug 13 21:49:12 apps make use of OpenGL too Aug 13 21:49:15 what is mcompositor? Aug 13 21:49:19 thiago_home: they have a -software flag, and it works Aug 13 21:49:21 and without it, it's just too slow Aug 13 21:49:25 yeah Aug 13 21:49:31 and no, it isn't slow anymore Aug 13 21:49:36 it isn't? Aug 13 21:49:39 well, on what hardware? Aug 13 21:49:45 software rendering on 320x240 shouldn't be that slow Aug 13 21:49:57 it's not like you need a huge fill rate Aug 13 21:50:01 thiago_home: http://blog.rburchell.com/2010/04/every-time-you-scale-pixmap-god-kills.html Aug 13 21:50:06 does the software mode use llvmpipe Aug 13 21:50:10 5 FPS to 170 FPS on my laptop, and that's a dual core Aug 13 21:50:21 so I can only imagine that it's at least usable on something slower Aug 13 21:50:23 well, it's 5 times less pixels Aug 13 21:50:53 (and that was before the tonnes of optimisation that has been thrown in over the past months, I should rebenchmark..) Aug 13 21:50:55 ScottishDuck: no, just the Qt raster engine Aug 13 21:51:15 speaking of rebenchmarking, argh, I need to go install Qt again Aug 13 21:51:17 I hate OS reinstalls Aug 13 21:51:27 I would have thought llvmpipe would be quite useful Aug 13 21:53:15 ScottishDuck: the raster engine is pretty good already, if you don't have something better than your CPU Aug 13 21:53:43 thiago_home: it got a rather huge amount of work over 4.7 too, didn't it? Aug 13 21:54:13 yeah, always Aug 13 21:54:26 the SSSE3 improvements aren't in 4.7.0 though Aug 13 21:55:05 so nokiaN900 is another beast altogether? Aug 13 21:55:41 sabayonuser: compared to what? Aug 13 21:55:54 it's a TI OMAP3430 Aug 13 21:56:08 to other mobiles Aug 13 21:56:23 Please be a little more specific Aug 13 21:56:31 no, it's not a completely different beast Aug 13 21:56:43 It's technically not a phone Aug 13 21:56:47 there are similar devices on OMAP platforms Aug 13 21:56:55 Nokia consider it to be an internet tablet that happens to make phone calls Aug 13 21:57:05 ScottishDuck: no, it's a "mobile computer" Aug 13 21:57:11 we don't call it tablet anymore Aug 13 21:57:16 oh I see Aug 13 21:57:18 :3 Aug 13 21:57:31 w00t_: i'm not surprised (read your blog) Aug 13 21:58:18 ScottishDuck: yeah, most their customers didn't really agree... Aug 13 21:58:30 The advertising was misleading Aug 13 21:59:01 i use it in exactly the same way i used my old phone, which was WM Aug 13 22:00:14 on the community OBS the 'go to repository' urls seem to be wrong - http://downloads.obs.maemo.org/home:/arfoll/MeeGo_current Aug 13 22:00:25 that's the link it gives me but it doesn\t exist Aug 13 22:00:43 I had it working earlier today which is weird but of course I forgot how I got it.... Aug 13 22:05:24 just saw moblin on LG on youtube.. wow Aug 13 22:05:35 3D and all Aug 13 22:05:58 1080 screen HD Aug 13 22:06:45 LG is based on Intel's Moorestown Aug 13 22:10:33 thanks folks.. have a good one Aug 13 22:21:16 w/ 29 Aug 13 22:23:14 nite all, sweet dreams Aug 13 22:30:56 kmail locks up trying to decode that email from ryan... Aug 13 22:32:17 * w00t_ hugs sup Aug 13 22:36:13 arfoll, re rep links, I reported this to X-Fade but I think he had gone Aug 13 22:37:21 I managed to do a local build of a random package (uxlaunch) without the ssse3 and atom flags Aug 13 22:41:50 I'll put a writeup on the nonSSSE3 wiki page over the weekend Aug 13 22:42:03 night Aug 13 22:42:28 arjan you still on? Aug 13 22:42:38 vgrade: nice Aug 13 22:53:18 vgrade: are you sure you didn't link any static libs into it? Aug 13 22:58:56 what i mean is, if you build *all* packages like that, can you be sure nothing static is ever linked in? Aug 13 23:26:24 vgrade: wassup? Aug 14 00:38:25 anybody home? Aug 14 00:39:43 presumably most of us are at home Aug 14 00:39:54 I'm certainly at home Aug 14 00:40:04 or someones home Aug 14 00:40:11 good Aug 14 00:40:23 is there a proper solution for multiple dhcp based networks and resolv.conf being blanked on reboot? Aug 14 00:45:00 that wast menat to be a show-stopper question actually Aug 14 00:45:13 i sort of expected that it is a very common problem Aug 14 00:46:11 pretty much for any person who swiches netwrk between home and office - manualy editing resolv.conf each time is unlikely to be something that you want to do often Aug 14 00:53:45 if you use dhcp, why does it matter if dresolv.conf gets blanked? dhcp will just write a new one Aug 14 00:58:52 i wish it did Aug 14 00:59:18 apparently at the moment it does not get the dns server via dhcp Aug 14 01:00:52 well... it's supposed to. have you checked the dhcp server actually sends it? Aug 14 01:04:22 http://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3674 Aug 14 01:05:28 Phazorx: that could be your bug ^ Aug 14 01:06:33 well sort of i guess Aug 14 01:07:18 http://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4818 Aug 14 01:08:47 my current issue is - a home when it connects the dhcp part works for everything but the dns Aug 14 01:08:53 so i have to add dns manually Aug 14 01:08:58 and i can make it stick if i have to Aug 14 01:09:27 so it works on some dhcp server but not others? Aug 14 01:09:28 but if i go somewhere else, where i dont know what the dns servers are, it is not an option Aug 14 01:09:39 or it fails everywhere? Aug 14 01:09:40 for me here it does not work for any Aug 14 01:10:06 and if there would have been only one - you could create a sttic resol.conf and make it presist Aug 14 01:10:20 because it is regenerated on every reboot at the moment Aug 14 01:10:45 presumably it is regenerated as an empty file every time dhcp asks for an address Aug 14 01:11:07 it adds loopback there as far as i recall Aug 14 01:11:17 but i dont see it adding the dns server Aug 14 01:11:35 well i think connman is supposed to run a dns proxy on localhost Aug 14 01:11:55 does it work? Aug 14 01:12:20 i dunno, but it does sound to me like you hit those bugs i linked Aug 14 01:12:42 because if you put another dns server in resolv.conf you skip around the connman proxy, and that's where those bugs are located Aug 14 01:13:08 so in short, no it doesn't work properly, currently Aug 14 01:13:22 sorry, what doesn't work? Aug 14 01:13:50 connman dns proxy Aug 14 01:14:03 according to http://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4818 Aug 14 01:14:05 on what image/installation? Aug 14 01:14:15 idk, i'm not bug reporter Aug 14 01:55:15 Hi **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Aug 14 02:59:57 2010
