**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Thu Sep 23 02:59:58 2010 Sep 23 03:47:58 <__key__> sup fellas Sep 23 03:48:07 * __key__ is trying to figure out what meego is Sep 23 03:48:42 <__key__> anybody here know ? Sep 23 03:48:58 it's a linux distribution put together in collaboration between intel and nokia Sep 23 03:49:23 <__key__> ahh Sep 23 03:49:29 <__key__> for phones ? Sep 23 03:49:42 for the kinds of devices listed on this page: http://meego.com/ Sep 23 03:49:54 <__key__> hrmm Sep 23 03:49:56 <__key__> *sign Sep 23 03:50:09 <__key__> so, it's like a mini os Sep 23 03:50:15 <__key__> for fridges ? Sep 23 03:50:24 it's a linux distribution put together in collaboration between intel and nokia Sep 23 03:50:51 <__key__> ok Sep 23 03:56:05 mmm, fridgeOS Sep 23 03:59:43 Can anyone give a quick pointer on how to get an account at build server ? Sep 23 04:02:44 mgoddard|nok, I would have done the salesman shtick a little better, but I'm pretty sure that guy is the same troll who showed up here and in other channels before ... Sep 23 04:04:08 johnx: wouldn't surprise me :) Sep 23 04:05:58 14:52 < __key__> is it an operating system for small household items ? Sep 23 04:05:58 14:52 < __key__> like a cable box Sep 23 04:05:58 14:52 < __key__> ?? Sep 23 04:06:41 from earlier? Sep 23 04:08:58 johnx, ignore the fridgeOS guy ... he's hopeless ... can you give me info on the build.meego.com OBS server ? Sep 23 04:12:35 johnx: yeah Sep 23 04:13:03 johnx: ~3pm us central time Sep 23 04:14:27 I want MeeGo on *my* fridge... :P Sep 23 04:14:40 (pity my fridge doesn't have an ARM chip...) Sep 23 04:17:43 bat, fraid not. I mainly hack around with packages that are already built. sorry :| Sep 23 04:18:09 thanks for reply ... Sep 23 04:35:47 re Sep 23 05:56:56 HI There some documentation available about building meego from source code, Till now i cud get info only about how to build meeego from rpms using mic Sep 23 05:57:51 sharmaP: that's done with an OBS, first off: why would you want to rebuild meego? Sep 23 05:58:43 Stskeeps: your answer sounds like "no, it's dark magic" Sep 23 05:59:02 @stskeeps, OBS requires username and passwords, I want to set up my own local repo and build meego from there, am trying to port meego to IMX platform Sep 23 05:59:12 sharmaP: what IMX device? Sep 23 05:59:21 sharmaP: and you can install OBS locally if you'd like Sep 23 05:59:26 @Stskeeps imx51 Sep 23 05:59:52 that's ARMv7 isn't it? Sep 23 05:59:55 @stskeeps , so can i configure it to use my sources Sep 23 05:59:56 yes Sep 23 06:00:17 sharmaP: you don't need to build it :) ARMv7 is already provided by repo.meego.com Sep 23 06:00:25 you just need to add hardware adaptation packages Sep 23 06:01:22 Stskeeps: you're more insisting on "that is total voodoo, use prebuilt binaries" Sep 23 06:02:02 slonopotamus: do you have anything valuable to contribute? this is the way it's done in MeeGo - take a pre-built platform and build above it Sep 23 06:02:25 @ stskeeps, yeah but our customer requires some modifications in the source.s tahst why m interested in setting up my own local repo n build from it... Sep 23 06:02:50 I thinks thats the whole idea of building n open source projects Sep 23 06:03:08 yes, of course - but for MeeGo compliance, you often shouldn't have to modify sources Sep 23 06:03:14 sharmaP: ok, then you'll want to look into setting up your own OBS. Keep in mind that some modifications are not MeeGo compliant Sep 23 06:03:29 sharmaP: and I would instead of rebuilding the whole thing, rebuild individual packages Sep 23 06:03:36 @ stskeeps,, ok Sep 23 06:04:28 @ stskeeps u mean taking a base .img and then building over it.. Sep 23 06:04:36 what DE or WM is used in meego, and if it's not secret which one would be used in Nokia UIX ? Sep 23 06:04:51 sharmaP: sec Sep 23 06:05:50 sharmaP: http://wiki.meego.com/MPG and discuss on meego-porting mailing list :) Sep 23 06:06:10 sharmaP: and not exactly .img, but all the prebuilt packages and a kickstart file Sep 23 06:07:33 @ stskeeps have tried it Sep 23 06:07:41 the kickstart file can be used to add device-specific packages and config Sep 23 06:07:55 sharmaP: ok, can you try to make your own first image with mic2? Sep 23 06:08:00 cud create a image from the meego's prebuilt sources,,, b Sep 23 06:08:45 @stskeeps have done it for atom and beagle board, was looking on how to start from from building sources rather than using prebuilt binaries Sep 23 06:09:22 sharmaP: ok, so the situation is that you rarely would want to rebuild the entire thing - an ARM rebuild can take up to 3 days with ~40 workers :) Sep 23 06:09:34 sharmaP: so you would want to set up an OBS and patch individual patches Sep 23 06:09:39 er, patch individual packages Sep 23 06:09:43 @ stskeeps yes Sep 23 06:09:59 so, check out the MPG, it has instructions for setting up a OBS, i hope :) Sep 23 06:10:16 http://wiki.meego.com/MPG#Vendor.27s_own_OBS Sep 23 06:11:17 @stskeeps thanks for the link, hae been thru MPG , but the Vendor OBS link seems pretty interesting , hope i get somethn over there Sep 23 06:12:02 sharmaP: please discuss on meego-porting mailing list and point out flaws and problems in instructions :) Sep 23 06:12:08 ZogG, it's a custom WM/DE, written in Qt, I believe Sep 23 06:25:11 @Stskeeps sure Sep 23 06:26:00 sharmaP: you're also welcome to folllow #meego-arm - general principle: we don't do your homework, but we can guide you in the right direction Sep 23 06:26:10 and OBS stuff is best asked in #meego-dev for instance Sep 23 06:26:58 @Stskeeps thanks, will make sure i do my homework... Sep 23 06:38:13 [root@sapan-laptop /]# startmeego & [1] 5559 [root@sapan-laptop /]# bash: startmeego: command not found Sep 23 06:38:26 i want to login as meego root Sep 23 06:38:45 how to open terminal in meego root Sep 23 06:39:31 i was able to login previously on root@meego-netbook-sdk: Sep 23 06:39:57 anybody der for help? No time to test :-( Sep 23 07:27:22 Error: Qt has been built as static libraries so either the -g or -k argument Sep 23 07:27:23 should be used. <<< no pain, no gain Sep 23 07:39:19 Morning Sep 23 07:39:35 ok i got no luck trying to compile on the obs pyqt :) Sep 23 07:39:36 sipQtCoreQt.cpp:957:41: error: 'WindowSoftkeysRespondHint' is not a member of 'Qt' Sep 23 07:39:36 sipQtCoreQt.cpp:958:41: error: 'WindowSoftkeysVisibleHint' is not a member of 'Qt' Sep 23 08:01:23 Hi. Can anyone help me install windows without being able to boot from usb or dvd ? Sep 23 08:01:48 think you might be a bit off track here, this is a MeeGo channel :) Sep 23 08:01:55 yeah im running meego on the wetab Sep 23 08:01:56 actually Sep 23 08:01:57 ;) Sep 23 08:02:07 thats why i came in here Sep 23 08:02:14 well, we don't know how to install windows ;) Sep 23 08:02:20 haha Sep 23 08:02:30 i wanted to set up some dualboot Sep 23 08:02:44 how's the hardware like anyway? Sep 23 08:02:57 wetab-specific forums would be the best place to ask Sep 23 08:03:30 segobi: but no idea how to install windows on a wetab, you'll have to work that out yourselves Sep 23 08:03:36 1gb ram, 32gb sandisk ssd, atom 1.6ghz. There are not enough wetab users right now hehe Sep 23 08:03:47 I was thinking about maybe cloning a windows installation to a new partition Sep 23 08:03:48 or so Sep 23 08:03:50 Yes, it is a PC Sep 23 08:03:51 and then make it boot that Sep 23 08:03:58 But how does it feel? Sep 23 08:04:06 its heavy ;) Sep 23 08:04:11 the touchscreen does not react well Sep 23 08:04:15 oh Sep 23 08:04:58 And I wanted to see if it runs windows better...its like a beta version to run with WeTabOS / Meego. The ExoPC looks better and its the same HW Sep 23 08:05:10 but you can access the bios on the exopc..which you cant on wetab Sep 23 08:05:10 lol Sep 23 08:05:21 I am trying to install MeeGo Netbook UX on a 4gb flash drive. It stops at the last step saying "Installing Bootloader". What could be the reason? Sep 23 08:06:19 how long does the battery last? Sep 23 08:06:34 which systems rpms would be most compatible with meego ? Sep 23 08:06:36 segobi: is there a terminal on it? :P Sep 23 08:06:49 yes Sep 23 08:06:52 there is one... Sep 23 08:23:44 segobi: basically the xorg.0.log tells me it's not setting up the multitouch screen properly :P Sep 23 08:23:49 each of them has an input device, so Sep 23 08:23:53 each points, that is Sep 23 08:24:41 yes its not using multitouch yet Sep 23 08:24:48 they said it would come with an update Sep 23 08:25:08 449 eur and the better one costs 569 Sep 23 08:26:05 segobi: well, more like, that events from anything but one point is ignored Sep 23 08:26:15 which might mean some of the touch input gets lost even with singletouch Sep 23 08:27:02 hmm u have a solution ? Sep 23 10:46:14 i mean the community one Sep 23 10:47:46 at next weekly i think Sep 23 11:53:40 for Qt application development using OpenGL ES 2.0, will I need the virtualization in QEMU and the gles wrapper libraries or is it possible to set it all up in the meego chroot? Sep 23 11:56:12 not a bad question Sep 23 12:01:40 faid: think gles is still an error not completely explored in 1.1 Sep 23 12:01:42 err, area Sep 23 12:02:07 faid: you need the wrapper lib and kfgles module, so I guess only QEMU Sep 23 12:03:27 which is actually broken (mcompositor segfaults) Sep 23 12:22:22 fabo: hmm ok, bummer, my workstation doesn't have VT (enabled at least, could've been switched off in BIOS) which is why I was hoping for chroot. in any case, what you're saying is that QEMU wouldn't work anyway because mcompositor segfaults? Sep 23 12:28:01 faid: yes Sep 23 12:30:14 fabo: thanks Sep 23 12:40:51 how do i pxe boot from my WDS server using extlinux ?
