Aug 04 16:16:47 * thiago should visit Sweden sometime now that he's employed by Intel Sweden AB Aug 04 16:17:30 i haven't like, actually spent any quality time in sweden besides driving through it, even though i've been living in denmark my entire youth Aug 04 16:17:36 so let's see how that country is like Aug 04 16:22:48 I've never been there Aug 04 16:22:51 Always wanted to Aug 04 16:22:51 my cousins live in sweden, so I've spent there months of my life Aug 04 16:22:55 Given that I have a Swedish name ;) Aug 04 16:22:56 I like it Aug 04 16:22:57 thiago: I recommend gothenburg Aug 04 16:23:14 I've been to IKEA a dozen times Aug 04 16:23:18 Does that count? ;) Aug 04 16:23:23 no :) Aug 04 16:23:29 Ulf^: maybe a dozen more... Aug 04 16:24:01 I used to have a swedish last name also :) Aug 04 16:24:25 but it was sort of a fashion in 30's to "translate" names to finnish Aug 04 16:24:35 berndhs, it only does if you used the tools they provide ;) Aug 04 16:24:50 although in this case the translation has nothing to do with the original name Aug 04 16:25:52 so dillström (dillstream) became tulilahti (firebay) :) Aug 04 17:39:48 what's the API port number for pub.meego? I would need to pull the workerstatus info Aug 04 17:49:03 Viltapi: mmm ? Aug 04 17:54:10 Viltapi: the port is http/https Aug 04 17:55:35 auke: right thanks, lbt pointed it out as well Aug 04 17:55:56 seems like some customization there or then I had an older OBS or something Aug 04 17:56:45 no... it's just that a 'simple' OBS install does port based vhosts Aug 04 17:56:58 https://api.pub.meego.com/build/_workerstatus is a normal api call Aug 04 17:58:16 Viltapi: shoulda said - discuss in room normally :) Aug 04 17:59:20 lbt: yeah I wasn't sure was there some "security by obscurity" here that you did not want to answer :P Aug 04 17:59:36 it seems to be fairly common in some... groups Aug 04 17:59:41 fair enough ... generally no Aug 04 18:19:41 hi Aug 04 18:19:49 hi Aug 04 18:20:32 is there a way to make taskbar to show up other way than reachung screen edge? Aug 04 18:20:43 it's quite hard on a touchscreen :D Aug 04 18:23:50 the windows key brings up the taskbar. bind a button to that action if you don't have a keyboard Aug 04 18:24:17 if you're referring to netbook ux taskbar Aug 04 18:24:42 yeah, netbook black top bar Aug 04 18:24:46 or tablet ux's "thingie" Aug 04 18:25:03 netbook Aug 04 18:25:03 (which seems to be the name i call everything on the tablet ux) Aug 04 18:25:18 is there a tablet version? Aug 04 18:25:29 thingie UX :) Aug 04 18:25:29 I haven't seen it Aug 04 18:25:48 ok, another question, how to logout/halt/reboot? :D Aug 04 18:25:48 there is but no stable release Aug 04 18:25:49 yes. hopefully someone from intel will step in and tell you all about it :-) Aug 04 18:26:09 lol? Aug 04 18:26:16 no way to halt? Aug 04 18:26:29 you need to press the hw button Aug 04 18:26:42 or login as root and do /sbin/halt Aug 04 18:26:54 and to logout? Aug 04 18:27:03 kill xorg? Aug 04 18:27:05 init 3 Aug 04 18:27:08 init 5 Aug 04 18:27:11 iirc there was a bug about missing ui button for power off, etc. but evidently that's not needed :/ Aug 04 18:27:20 not needed? Aug 04 18:27:24 preferably in that order Aug 04 18:27:48 k, I'm gonna install that and test for few days Aug 04 18:27:54 thanks for hints Aug 04 18:28:13 Wizard: the tablet ux is very particular about running normal apps on it Aug 04 18:28:59 if you're planning on running anything other than tablet-UX-built qml apps, you might want to stick with netbook ux as it's more standard Aug 04 18:31:39 http://nielsmayer.com/meego/tab/meegotab-screenshots.html for various fails Aug 04 18:32:41 Wizard: yeah. looks like the bug was filed by me :) bug 5943 Aug 04 18:32:44 Bug https://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5943 enh, Low, ---, priya.vijayan, NEW, Provide a way to shutdown/restart netbook from UX Aug 04 18:32:51 but that's what happens when you install standard Linux apps on tablet UX ( http://wiki.meego.com/MeeGo-Lem ) Aug 04 18:34:24 low prio == not going to happen. besides it's the bugs 1y birthday in 3 weeks :) Aug 04 18:41:06 even medium prio often means "not going to happen", seeing that nearly nobody uses low prio... Aug 04 19:19:42 hey, was module/driver is needed for the rotation sensor? Aug 04 19:19:48 in the exoPC Aug 04 19:30:37 gandhijee_: Just asus_laptop, which should be pulled in automatically Aug 04 19:31:08 ok Aug 04 19:31:16 andyross: i'm building my own kernel Aug 04 19:31:54 The patch isn't upstream yet, sadly. MeeGo is carrying it in the kernel-adaptation-pinetrail; check OBS. Aug 04 19:32:52 and asus_laptop is only for wireless stuff it seems Aug 04 19:33:10 The accelerometer driver is in asus_laptop Aug 04 19:33:30 actually i think it might be in the pega_ext Aug 04 19:34:03 No, it's in asus_laptop. I wrote it. There is a pega_ext module shipped with the WeTab software. It's a mess. Aug 04 19:34:41 i see Aug 04 19:35:15 so your asus_laptop driver with the accelerometer stuff isn't upstreamed, correct? Aug 04 19:35:31 ping Aug 04 19:36:52 It was submitted, some questions came back about panics I'd seen. But at that point MeeGo had already picked it up and I got pulled off to work on other things. I'm still sort of vainly hoping someone else picks it up and does the legwork; I know one person was working on getting it into Fedora, for example. But basically blame me for it not being in mainline. Aug 04 19:37:26 I've installed meego, updated and now I get this: Aug 04 19:37:29 gnome-control-center: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/control-center-1/extensions/libsystray.so: undefined symbol: mux_label_new Aug 04 19:37:49 i see Aug 04 19:38:31 bah Aug 04 19:38:35 don't tell me Aug 04 19:38:39 html Aug 04 19:38:41 on desktop Aug 04 19:38:43 pffff Aug 04 19:39:55 whoops, wrong window, sorry Aug 04 19:40:43 i've removed this library and now control center starts Aug 04 19:41:10 could somebody put it in bugzilla? :> Aug 04 19:43:23 ok, never mind.. Aug 04 19:45:29 no java, no git, no svn :/ Aug 04 19:45:33 no wine Aug 04 19:45:36 no xchat Aug 04 19:45:52 o_O Aug 04 19:46:29 I would like to add new category in menu, Can any one tell me how can I do that Aug 04 19:46:43 andyross: is it the ALS part that you added? Aug 04 19:47:31 so the files in some particular folder comes into that menu category Aug 04 19:47:46 I had created .menu and .directory file Aug 04 19:47:55 but it doesnt working.. Aug 04 20:10:43 so andy i have your driver from the meego kernel pulled in and compiled... did you touch anything else where to get the thing working? Aug 04 20:41:39 Sorry, was afk. If the driver is compiled, you'll have an accelerometer device in /dev/input. If you want the MeeGo sensorfw to recognize it, you need to install the sensorfw-pegatron. Aug 04 21:07:44 can any one help me with adding custom category in menu? Aug 04 21:36:51 now theres a thing, http://build.meegoo.com/ Aug 04 21:38:23 i'm not cool enough for those things Aug 04 22:48:39 hi, is lbt around? Aug 04 22:50:38 no, are you after an Community OBS account? Aug 04 22:51:39 Hey! I am thinking about using Meego on my netbook. I just have afew questions. Its linux right? what package manager does it use? can you run most linux apps? and what can you do in term of customization? Aug 04 22:52:28 CosmoHill, no -- I had posted an error message I am getting uploading files on the devel list and he suggested contacting him here. Aug 04 22:52:56 * nasa01 wonders if he could have stated that any worse... Aug 04 22:52:57 nasa01: okay, try about 9~10am GMT+1 Aug 04 22:54:16 Jayro: hi, MeeGo does use the Linux kernel and the command line Package mangager is Zyppper Aug 04 22:54:47 There is Core, Netbook, In Vechial something, and handset Aug 04 22:55:11 CosmoHill, so as for linux apps such as thunderbird or command line tools like nmap or vlc. How does it work? Aug 04 22:55:51 there are two types of programs, Offical meego ones and ones made by the community Aug 04 22:56:12 IIRC Meego does not come with VLC and I don't think it uses thunderbird Aug 04 22:56:25 CosmoHill, so a program that runs on say.. debian will not run on Meego? Aug 04 22:56:30 It doesn't use Gnome / Unitly or KDE but it's own MeeGo UI Aug 04 22:56:53 no, MeeGo is based on itself Aug 04 22:57:18 whilst a program from Debian might run on Ubuntu it won't run on Gentoo or Redhat Aug 04 22:57:26 (well probably won't) Aug 04 22:57:56 CosmoHill, Okay.. so what can be done in terms of custimization? What if i dont like the cuet characters and the bright colors? Aug 04 22:58:20 cute* Aug 04 22:58:29 at the moment I'm not so sure Aug 04 22:58:47 then i shall srick with jolios for the moment :3 Aug 04 22:59:07 I remember they were discussing ways to separate the branding from the applications to make it easier for vendors to supply their own branding Aug 04 22:59:18 nasa01: ping Aug 04 22:59:26 you can make your own UI, but it's a bit of work Aug 04 22:59:43 lbt: pong Aug 04 22:59:46 * Jayro dosnt like work Aug 04 22:59:46 :) Aug 04 22:59:58 * nasa01 wonders if anyone does Aug 04 23:00:02 the tablet theme has 2004 image files Aug 04 23:00:17 approximately :) Aug 04 23:00:29 lbt: I can try an upload anytime you like Aug 04 23:00:39 OK .. is it reproduceable? Aug 04 23:21:31 looks like some kind of timeout at 60s Aug 04 23:22:40 on my end? Aug 04 23:24:39 try again Aug 04 23:25:15 started Aug 04 23:27:08 worked? Aug 04 23:28:33 no Aug 04 23:29:42 btw: I also tried uploading these files from my office -- with the same results Aug 04 23:32:33 one last time... Aug 04 23:32:40 then I have to go sleep Aug 04 23:32:46 Does meego have day to day apps like a mail client, flash support, java support, stuff like that? Aug 04 23:33:44 started now -- and sleep is good Aug 04 23:35:53 still no go Aug 04 23:39:01 sorry ... can you upload using osc? Aug 04 23:44:16 why would a text file fail to upload? Aug 04 23:44:51 dunno... but it's fairly busy with people uploading code Aug 04 23:45:05 so it seems to be you having the problem.... :) Aug 04 23:45:11 not for sure of course Aug 04 23:45:20 email me the file though : david@dgreaves.com ... I'll try it in the morning Aug 04 23:45:24 but it's likely a good guess Aug 04 23:45:29 sure Aug 04 23:45:55 gotta go ... eyes closing :) Aug 04 23:45:55 I need to run, so go get some sleep lbt Aug 04 23:46:21 BTW ... log a bug too Aug 04 23:46:57 ok, sure thing Aug 04 23:47:21 Thanks for the hand Aug 05 00:30:13 somebody offered to buy my Nokia N950 on Youtube, I told him politely to fuck off. Aug 05 00:33:28 apparently he didn't offer enogh money :) Aug 05 00:34:26 i wouldn't sell it if i were offered 10 times the price Aug 05 00:34:30 1. i love the thing Aug 05 00:34:33 2. it's a dev loaner Aug 05 00:34:50 right, wasn't nearly enough Aug 05 01:06:32 TSCHAKeee: I'm shocked. Aug 05 01:06:55 :-) Aug 05 01:07:05 what's an even bigger insult Aug 05 01:07:08 is when they offer $600 Aug 05 01:07:13 which doesn't even cover the cost of the unit Aug 05 01:07:19 i''m like....really? Aug 05 01:07:26 fucking morons. Aug 05 01:07:49 his name is hho1994... stupid kid. Aug 05 01:08:05 Nobody has any idea what devices actually cost (or /should/ cost) any more. Aug 05 01:08:13 and even after I explained the whole situation Aug 05 01:08:30 he was like, "i'm sorry, i really want the phone, how about $600?" Aug 05 01:08:53 hee hee Aug 05 01:09:10 if he had offered enough money for a comfortable retirement... Aug 05 01:09:30 i'm like, "you idiot, if I _LOSE_ the device, I'm out almost $900 to Nokia. if I SELL the device, as I said before, I'D BE UP FOR CRIMINAL CHARGES!" Aug 05 01:10:07 "yeah, but.. I really want the phone." Aug 05 01:10:15 *rolls-eyes* Aug 05 01:10:17 sounds like my kids. Aug 05 01:10:18 well there's your retirement home right there Aug 05 01:10:23 :-/ Aug 05 01:10:31 but.. but... Aug 05 01:10:35 I want it! Aug 05 01:10:43 this is what gets me though Aug 05 01:10:51 for the class of users who would want the N9 Aug 05 01:10:56 are the same class who want a keyboard Aug 05 01:11:13 now me, I don't mind.. the on screen keyboard on Harmattan works great for me Aug 05 01:11:37 yep. Aug 05 01:12:02 but i'm hearing from more than one person that they consider the lack of a keyboard on the N9 a deal breaker Aug 05 01:12:07 which is unfortunate.. I think it's silly Aug 05 01:12:10 but Aug 05 01:12:12 meh. Aug 05 01:12:55 not to mention, i had a discussion with a friend who works over at Sony-Ericsson, and he had been given a preliminary price estimate that the N9 will be over $1100 Aug 05 01:13:17 I wanna call bullshit, but he usually is right. Aug 05 01:14:39 and he was in a meeting when the CEO heard that Elop had killed MeeGo and Symbian, to which the CEO replied, "Elop should be hung while being disemboweled." Aug 05 01:14:52 anyway. Aug 05 01:15:03 Did he throw a chair? Aug 05 01:15:07 haha Aug 05 01:15:27 no, but i did find the reference to a viking execution reserved for traitors to be a nice touch. Aug 05 01:15:33 it isn't obvious that this will work for Elop Aug 05 01:15:39 yes, that is. Aug 05 01:15:48 TSCHAKeee: ^^^ (not berndhs) Aug 05 01:16:19 Reckon $1100 is just an MSRP? I can't imagine carriers paying that. Aug 05 01:16:32 if that is, I'm gonna shit a brick Aug 05 01:16:43 i will pay it, but i will still shit a brick Aug 05 01:16:47 that's how much I love this phone. Aug 05 01:17:04 seriously, i wanna cry Aug 05 01:17:13 everything possible to run the phone into the ground Aug 05 01:17:45 gabrbedd: and you have to understand too, _NOBODY_ carried the N900 over here. Aug 05 01:17:49 NOBODY. Aug 05 01:17:51 (the US) Aug 05 01:18:53 yep. think it'll be different with the N9? Aug 05 01:18:57 Or even the WP7? Aug 05 01:19:13 * gabrbedd didn't mean those as snide questions. Aug 05 01:20:04 gabrbedd: i really don't know anymore. Aug 05 01:20:16 I will buy the N9..and after that, i am jumping ship. Aug 05 01:20:52 you know it's bad, when a competing cell phone company's CEO looks over and facepalms. Aug 05 01:21:30 Well, I've kept quiet with my N9 opinion... but I won't be getting an N9. It looks awesome and all... but... well... you know. Aug 05 01:21:52 it will be the best phone they've ever done. Aug 05 01:21:56 ever. Aug 05 01:23:02 TSCHAKeee: That's pretty shocking :-) Aug 05 01:23:11 * TSCHAKeee laughs Aug 05 01:23:18 sarcasm...pretty...thick in here... Aug 05 01:23:29 * Jaffa meant the CEO bit ;-) Aug 05 01:23:38 Sometimes, though, I'm nearly overwhelmed with the urge to support our MeeGo and Qt friends in NOK and get their excellent handiwork. Aug 05 01:23:44 Aug 05 01:28:48 gabrbedd: do you know why mic2 sometimes installs a package you explicitly removed ? Aug 05 01:30:41 berndhs: if a package is /only/ listed in the pattern, it should be excluded. But if another package has a dep... it's going to be included. Aug 05 01:30:53 ah Aug 05 01:31:50 the way I get around if is to make a bogus empty package with teh same name and version 999.999.999 Aug 05 01:32:16 feels kinda hokey though Aug 05 01:55:04 Hello. I just updated my netbook from an ancient version of moblin to meego 1.2 netbook (chrome). But with chrome I am getting nothing but SSL errors wherever I go. I am assuming I am missing some SSL dep? Aug 05 01:56:31 is the clock correct on your netbook? Aug 05 02:02:15 Yes it is Aug 05 02:02:27 I just install openssl-certs and I think it might have worked Aug 05 02:02:33 weird that it wasnt installed by default Aug 05 02:02:37 let me double check Aug 05 02:05:15 Yep... installed openssl-certs and everything is working perfectly. Thats so stange that its not installed by default with a vanilla meego installation. It is a required package for the update manager. When i tried to update meego it told me there was a security certificate error, just like chrome was doing. Now that I have that package installed its working just fine. Submit a bug report? Aug 05 02:06:19 Also, what is the cli package manager for this? Seems like it uses packagekit like fedora but there is no yum. should I install yum or is there something else it is using? I'm only familiar with apt(itude) yum and zypper Aug 05 02:06:55 zypper Aug 05 02:17:39 bad space weather http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewsr.html?pid=37900 Aug 05 02:21:16 In the repos there is chromium 11 and chromium 13. If I make sure the meego integration package for chromium is installed, can i safely upgrade to 13 and still keep all the integration stuff? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Fri Aug 05 02:59:56 2011
