**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri May 06 23:59:56 2005 May 07 13:35:27 I just installed unslung. When I go to http://192.168.1.77/, indedx.cgi isn't run but its binary contents are actually displayed. /etc/thttpd.conf has "cgipat=**.cgi". What's wrong? May 07 13:36:57 ah. it was installed with a permission problem. chmod a+rx index.cgi fixed it. May 07 19:02:07 hello May 07 19:02:18 hello May 07 19:02:46 I'm having a problem with getting NFS running on my nslu2 w/ Unslung May 07 19:03:50 is this a new NFS installation? May 07 19:04:24 i tried using the stock firmware telnet hack and the NFS in the tom's networking article and had the same problem May 07 19:07:18 just to check something... i put /share/hdd/data or /share/hdd/data/user's folder? May 07 19:07:58 have you looked at the www.nslu2-linux.org wiki? May 07 19:08:11 more up to date information (by at least 6 months) May 07 19:08:11 not fully May 07 19:09:09 ah, you need insecure for osx May 07 19:09:17 true! May 07 19:10:37 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 will cover the whole subnet? (sorry for the noob questions) May 07 19:12:25 one sec May 07 19:12:34 thanks May 07 19:13:49 yes May 07 19:14:12 hopefully this works now :) May 07 19:14:35 i find samba to be laggy on my mac May 07 19:14:47 I have /share/hdd/data 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0(rw,sync,no_root_squash,insecure) on one of my slugs May 07 19:15:24 and then the directory you mount is /share/hdd/data/exiva? May 07 19:15:52 well, I can mount anything that is shared May 07 19:17:52 -_- same thing May 07 19:18:12 could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct. May 07 19:18:54 you do have the users setup on your slug, right? May 07 19:18:59 yeah May 07 19:19:14 if i do ps -ax what would the process name be related to nfs? May 07 19:19:30 that depends on the nfs that you installed May 07 19:19:55 IIRC, there were 3 nfs related ipkgs May 07 19:20:09 Nfs-utils ? May 07 19:20:50 btw, have you rebooted since installing nfs? May 07 19:20:56 no? May 07 19:21:23 rebooted the slug, that is May 07 19:21:28 no May 07 19:21:54 try that (to make sure the diversion script has run) May 07 19:22:03 ok May 07 19:22:33 itll run the script to start nfs? May 07 19:23:04 yes, that diversion/startup script would have been installed by the ipkg that you installed for nfs May 07 19:24:33 name or password is not correct May 07 19:26:01 portmap is one daemon that whatever nfs ipkg should have made running May 07 19:26:33 im gonna go from whats in /opt/sbin i got portmap, statd, mountd May 07 19:27:03 sounds like it's running then May 07 19:27:57 =\ May 07 19:28:28 you could check the error messages in /var/log as well May 07 19:28:34 ok May 07 19:28:54 if it says that username/password problem's there as well, then it has to be related to your user setup May 07 19:29:24 it should be in /var/log/messages ? May 07 19:30:17 yes May 07 19:30:28 nothing related to nf May 07 19:30:28 s May 07 19:31:32 should i use nfs-server or nfs-utils ? May 07 19:32:15 I'm using nfs-utils (just checked) May 07 19:32:35 hmmm May 07 19:33:05 nfs://exiva:password@192.168.1.2/share/hdd/data/exiva is what im using as the server address in osx May 07 19:33:38 brb May 07 19:34:18 i only have one iMac and the wife has it atm May 07 19:49:24 oh May 07 19:49:35 how do i connect to nfs using windows? May 07 20:05:53 w00t! finally May 07 20:06:11 thanks for your'e help Byron :) May 07 20:50:37 Hey, has anyone ever seen an issue where an unslung NSLU2 will be pingable, then unavailable, then pingable again? It seems I keep losing connection.. May 07 20:51:30 depends on the network... May 07 20:51:53 oh... hello again May 07 20:51:53 heya, I was on last night with this issue, still unresolved May 07 20:51:56 :) May 07 20:52:29 I hardcoded my router to 100MB, and my pc to 100/full. So, the only devices on the network currently, are the router, pc and slug.. May 07 20:52:40 and I was about to ask that May 07 20:53:02 I used to have that issue with one of my slug's but it was 2.12 slug May 07 20:53:25 and it only happened when I was connecting via wireless May 07 20:53:29 This is the "Firmware Version: V2.3R25-uNSLUng-standard-3.18-beta" May 07 20:53:37 hmm, no, this is wired. May 07 20:53:42 3.18 should be good May 07 20:53:49 though 4.x is not too far away May 07 20:54:06 so, it is very possible that it could be resolved with different firmware? May 07 20:54:09 you might even just have a slug with a problem May 07 20:54:11 should I try the 4beta? May 07 20:54:20 I would wait on the beta May 07 20:54:31 heh, history has shown that the problem is usually me, and not the hardware May 07 20:54:48 how about rolling back to an earlier version.. 2.12 or something, just to test? May 07 20:54:50 to troubleshoot, I would probably try putting on Linksys Firmware and if the same thing happened May 07 20:55:02 ok, I'll try that, thanks for your assistance, Byron May 07 20:55:08 then I might try out another switch May 07 20:55:19 to an older FW? May 07 20:55:20 (el cheapo switch that is) May 07 20:55:25 oh.. ok May 07 20:55:39 maybe I'll do that first, put the pc and slug on a diff. hub May 07 20:55:46 and if same thing, then go ahead and contact Linksys - amd maybe get a replacement slug May 07 20:56:40 just have to make sure I put their firmware back on, right? they'll get antsy about that, I'm sure May 07 20:57:50 well, that would be the other reason for flashing Linksys firmware May 07 20:57:57 fair 'nuff May 07 20:58:44 to troubleshoot... after the problem is id'd back to Unslung.... :) May 07 20:59:16 so, let's say I leave a ping -t running for 10 minutes on a different hub, and don't have any problems.. never have a timeout.. that would mean that the SLUG doesn't like my router.. that's unfortunate for me, right May 07 20:59:57 well, not responding to Ping - by itself - IMHO is not a big deal May 07 21:00:10 oh, and also, the web interface timesout May 07 21:00:35 but if while using said slug (music streaming), file serving or print server hanging... then I might do something about it May 07 21:01:00 one, hubs are not good May 07 21:01:11 ugh, don't want to have to replace my router.. heh, spent enough money lately May 07 21:01:29 switches are the way to go (sorta suprised that you can still buy hubs these days) May 07 21:02:31 yeah? I should get a switch instead? May 07 21:03:02 by the way, 246 successful pings, no failures, when the router is not in the picture.. May 07 21:03:23 what version router? May 07 21:03:36 err "brand" May 07 21:03:44 DI-624 - http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=6 May 07 21:03:57 latest firmware on the DI as well May 07 21:04:13 ouch... yeah, IIRC there have been some issues with that particular router May 07 21:04:59 oooh, really!? May 07 21:05:04 I see, good to know May 07 21:05:15 uh... May 07 21:05:22 did you ever read the FAQ? May 07 21:05:24 IIRC = If I read correctly? May 07 21:05:36 #28 May 07 21:05:53 http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Main/FAQ May 07 21:06:00 D'oh May 07 21:06:03 sorry about that May 07 21:06:11 :) May 07 21:06:15 I did look over it, but.. guess I didn't realize May 07 21:06:19 thanks for your patience May 07 21:06:20 two days on this... May 07 21:06:31 you lost more than I did... nbd May 07 21:06:42 at least no big deal for me May 07 21:07:14 heh, that is exactly my issue! ok, going to disable UPnP on both sides, is there any ill affect from that? will I be losing any functionality? May 07 21:07:56 PnP with windows machines just auto shows stuff in Network Neighborhood (and will auto connect some things) May 07 21:08:31 it's sorta like DHCP for network devices... auto discover and connect May 07 21:09:18 but browsing network - will still show slug without issues with PnP disabled May 07 21:09:20 ok, seems to be good now =) May 07 21:09:48 time to go install the fun stuff May 07 21:09:57 have fun May 07 21:10:45 thanks loads! May 07 21:10:58 you're welcome May 07 21:11:20 don't forget to add your name to the yahoo nlsu2-linux database (if you haven't already) May 07 21:14:01 already did :) May 07 21:14:11 #278 May 07 21:14:42 good deal. welcome to unslung May 07 21:15:01 thanks! May 07 21:30:51 already into trouble May 07 21:31:07 "no space left on device" when install ssh May 07 21:31:23 what did you unsling to? May 07 21:31:52 usb flash device or a hd? May 07 21:31:54 maybe that's my issue.. I didn't understand that.. I though I had it unslung to my 160 gig HD (which reads as 128Gig) May 07 21:32:02 but, I guess that isn't the case? May 07 21:32:10 df May 07 21:32:29 what's df? May 07 21:32:31 at a command prompt should show you the partition sizes May 07 21:33:19 how do I get to a command prompt on the slug? through telnet? May 07 21:33:25 yes May 07 21:33:41 and then ipkg install dropbear or openssh May 07 21:34:02 so that you don't have to use telnet (or enable it after every reboot) May 07 21:34:15 then use PuTTy to access the slug May 07 21:34:30 I did "ipkg update" first, then the "ipkg install openssh" May 07 21:34:38 and, during the openssh, started getting the space errors May 07 21:34:45 ewwww May 07 21:34:53 did you unsling at all? May 07 21:35:34 cause that sounds like the ipkg is installing to the jffs2 (which has no real free space) May 07 21:35:35 I thought I did. I didn't have the HD installed, then followed your directions, adding the HD when stated... May 07 21:35:45 ya May 07 21:35:49 how can I check? May 07 21:36:11 whelp, you're on your way to a RecoverFromABadFlash May 07 21:36:15 :) May 07 21:36:19 lol, figures May 07 21:36:29 course, it might just be easiest to start clean May 07 21:36:46 I like that option.. just install the first firmware? May 07 21:36:55 flash to linksys R25 firmware May 07 21:37:02 ok May 07 21:37:03 and then follow README May 07 21:38:07 grab the firmware from linksys' site, correct? May 07 21:38:12 yes May 07 21:42:07 <-heading to bed May 07 21:42:13 thanks again, Byron, take care May 07 21:42:17 good luck May 07 21:43:30 thanks May 07 22:49:08 hi. I've been hacking my NSLU2, I got it to a point that I used RedBoot to recover to a stable image. Something went wrong and the image doesn't boot. Now I'm trying to recover from that. RedBoot is okay through my hacked serial connection. But the network card isn't working (192.168.0.1). Any ideas? May 07 22:50:33 I'm kind of hosed, since networking isn't working in RedBoot, I can't get an image in. Does this mean I have to use JTAG to recover? Or is there some known problem about RedBoot with messed up networking>? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat May 07 23:59:56 2005
