**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon May 30 23:59:57 2005 May 31 05:01:09 Hi Guys. I have a question about the symlink to /opt May 31 05:04:45 unslung 4.2 does not have a symlink to opt. May 31 10:59:33 Hoi May 31 11:01:12 Anyone here using NFS on Unslug ? May 31 11:03:48 Hi, May 31 11:07:22 The README says, when unslinging, that I should connect my disk (after verifying that it works) and wait for it to be recognized. I have verified that the disk appears (as /dev/sda) on my laptop. It isn't formated (I just deleted the existing partitions). I plug it into the slug. The disk 1 light goes on, but a few minutes of waiting still gives my "Not installed" in the web interface about disk 1. May 31 11:09:00 dmesg reports the sda disk, but fails to find any file systems (for good reasons). /proc/bus/usb/devices reports one usb-storage device. I have /proc/hd_conn. May 31 11:09:57 So what do I do now? Everything tells me to do *exactly* what the README says, and the README says "Make sure that the drive is recognized in the web interface.". So now what? May 31 11:11:40 <[BioK]> hi all :) May 31 11:14:19 Hello ? May 31 11:15:18 Anyone around ? May 31 11:18:36 Hoi May 31 11:31:59 I was wondering if there was an automatic way of copying a specefic directory from disk 1 to disk 2 using the stock firmware May 31 11:34:42 Flipo: may be possible to create a backup job to another device, which is the network name of the slug, with an destination on a share, located on drive 2 May 31 11:34:54 Flipo: but haven't try that May 31 11:35:16 I tried and it says Source can't be local host May 31 11:35:23 [BioK]: hi May 31 11:36:20 hasse: which kind of enclosure you use, with which hd in it May 31 11:36:38 I programmed a scheduled task on my PC to do it but was wondering if it was possible to do it without a computer May 31 11:37:00 Flipo: so there's only the way to backup the whole drive 1 to drive 2 :-( May 31 11:37:31 caplink : yeah :( guess I'll stick with my scheduled task, could be worse May 31 11:38:22 Anyone using an IDE to USB2 cable instead of an enclosure ? I really enjoy doing that May 31 11:38:50 Flipo: but, if you have shell access, and want to update to unslung, you could use rsync to do that job May 31 11:39:15 cool, I'll probably get to install unslung once I find the time May 31 11:40:01 To obtain shell acess I need the slug besides me right ? May 31 11:41:08 My slug is kinda permanantly installed in a difficult to access closet May 31 11:41:47 Flipo: no, you need a network connection, and than you can telnet (stock), or ssh, or something else in th eslug May 31 11:42:07 Ok, this is different from the redboot procedure ? May 31 11:42:43 I tried accessing the telnet.cgi page but couldn't May 31 11:43:25 Flipo: start the slug, booting up, enabling telnet(stock), or let the ssh daemon start (automatic), and than you can aćcess the shell from a terminal (using the ip which you've assigned to the slug) May 31 11:43:49 Flipo: sorry, stock fw means r24/r25 or r29? May 31 11:44:13 I've got the latest, I guess they disabled the telnet access right ? May 31 11:44:17 r29 May 31 11:44:40 if it's r29, then yes, theres no telnet.cgi in the management directory May 31 11:45:00 So I need to do the redboot procedure ? May 31 11:45:42 for firmware update, no, imho, there must be the normal administration->advanced->upgrade page in the webinterface May 31 11:45:59 ok May 31 11:46:15 but, be aware and rtfm ;-) May 31 11:46:29 yeah... May 31 11:46:55 at the current time I don't really need to upgrade because I use the slug to stream media from a pocket pc and it works great May 31 11:47:09 to a pocket pc May 31 11:47:30 via a streaming server, or via a share? May 31 11:48:41 mongolito404: what's youre problem with nfs? May 31 11:49:38 simply via a share, I programmed a small utility that scans the disk and generates pocket pc compatible playlists that points to the slug May 31 11:50:17 using my slug to streams via twonkyvision to my terratec noxon, that works like a charm May 31 11:50:56 yeah if I buy one of those wireless media servers I will definately upgrade May 31 11:52:10 hmm that terratec looks real nice May 31 11:52:54 how much does it costs ? May 31 11:53:11 yeah, it's here in germany the cheapest possibililty to stream mp3's to the living room, 99€ from terratec May 31 11:53:42 the next is for the sleeping room, with some active speakers for the output May 31 11:54:15 or for kitchen, or the bath room May 31 11:54:26 Hmm that exactely what I wanted to do with the pocket pc but at 100e it's a real bargain May 31 11:54:59 Pocket PC for the bedroom and terratec for the living room. hmmm May 31 11:55:07 and with the rc it's much comfortable May 31 11:56:13 And you can access your files normally via share as well ? May 31 11:56:40 not with twonkyvision, only from the win pc May 31 11:57:03 the communication twonky<->noxon is upnp May 31 11:57:10 <[BioK]> hey sup caplink811 :) May 31 11:57:49 <[BioK]> lol the dns-120 have channel somewhere ? they have not really info on their website lol May 31 11:57:52 but the files are on the hard drives like any other file, to add new music you just copy it from a pc ? May 31 11:57:54 seems the canadians have the majority this evening/morning May 31 11:58:12 <[BioK]> but it sound like really the same kind ixp420 except is MISP May 31 11:58:14 Flipo: yes, normal directory structure May 31 11:58:30 <[BioK]> humm, maybe i should try attaching a thin client on that device May 31 11:58:41 <[BioK]> + a kvm, it would make a cheap machine haha May 31 11:59:13 and the sound quality is nice ? May 31 11:59:59 at the moment, with my "old" analogue pioneer amplifier, and mp3 with 192kbit and greater, yes May 31 12:00:39 <[BioK]> Flipo, ide to usb2 Humm you mean you have an HDD on your desk without case ? :P May 31 12:01:44 BioK : in the closet actually, but yes no case May 31 12:02:11 <[BioK]> you connect a ide to usb cable but what is doing the power for the hdd ? May 31 12:02:43 an AC/DC adapter that comes with the cable May 31 12:02:56 <[BioK]> is cheaper that an enclosure ? May 31 12:03:25 <[BioK]> i should do that i have some old 386 hdd like.. 650m lol May 31 12:03:38 <[BioK]> wont scrap my cash for an enclosure for 650m May 31 12:04:01 23$ May 31 12:04:11 <[BioK]> oh man May 31 12:04:21 <[BioK]> for 10 more buck you have a complet enclosure May 31 12:04:28 I had them in an enclosure before but now I use my enclosure to carry around me May 31 12:05:06 Yeah it's not really for the money, but I don't see the point of having a nice enclosure in my closet May 31 12:05:11 http://www.sabrent.com/pics/3.5toIDE.gif May 31 12:05:13 [BioK]: have you read this http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/DNS_120_Network_Storage_Adapter/4852-3382_16-31117642.html?tag=tab ? May 31 12:05:49 <[BioK]> yeah they all say is slow May 31 12:06:54 hmm anyone heard of an upnp client for pocket pcs ? May 31 12:07:16 <[BioK]> Flipo, well the only advantage is, 3.5 encloser is like 30 buck and 5.3 encloser is like 50 buck but.. with you 23$ cable you can also run 5.3 drive May 31 12:07:42 <[BioK]> caplink811, well about the thin client i was talking for doing it with the slug one hehe May 31 12:09:30 Biok : I can run 2.5" disks also May 31 12:09:41 <[BioK]> yeah May 31 12:09:50 <[BioK]> you can add it in an enclosure but it will float haha May 31 12:10:08 I use it a lot to troubleshoot other people disks May 31 12:10:33 <[BioK]> well i understand that you dont have to complet remove the hdd from the case just changing cable May 31 12:10:39 <[BioK]> i agree is a useful tool May 31 12:10:47 <[BioK]> does they just do it for ide or you can also have scsi one ? May 31 12:11:06 never saw a scsi one, I'd love to find a SATA one May 31 12:11:34 <[BioK]> hell yeah, i would need it May 31 12:12:20 I know there is a SATA-USB2 chip in exsistence but no product uses it yet May 31 12:13:38 <[BioK]> true that May 31 12:14:04 <[BioK]> hey caplink811 you think running kvm + thin client and nslu2 as a machine can be nice ? or a total lost of time ? haha May 31 12:18:32 caplink : the upnp server will automatically generate playlists for albums ? May 31 12:20:28 Flipo: albums, playlists, folders, sort by artists May 31 12:20:55 [BioK]: dunno. May 31 12:21:27 cool May 31 12:23:19 Flipo: www.twonkyvision.de May 31 12:25:28 Nice, guess that'll be my next purchases May 31 12:25:58 <[BioK]> Did I mention that this will void the warranty on your NSLU2 May 31 12:26:24 <[BioK]> ahaw stop telling me that i dont care :), i have special warrity it wont work return it and we exchange it right now without question! :P May 31 12:28:26 <[BioK]> humm the kuro box should be nice to try too May 31 12:40:26 hmm finding the noxon doesn't seem easy May 31 12:55:44 hmm the netgear mp101 seems cheaper here May 31 12:57:27 yeah, but if i remember right, there are problems with mp101 and twonkyvision, you want to have a look at www.media-servers.com May 31 13:00:02 hmm are you sure of that link, doesn't work here May 31 13:00:31 hmm using the cached version May 31 13:00:47 the page is slow, but online May 31 13:02:22 I'd need to find a place to buy the terratec in canada May 31 13:02:50 hm, seems the problems with mp101 are solved with the latest version of tv May 31 13:06:03 it's 95e in canada May 31 13:45:55 My disk doesn't get recognized when I insert it to unsling to it. If I have it inserted while booting it shows up and can be formated, though. May 31 13:49:02 I have an old 10G Fujitsu drive in a Q-Tec box. May 31 14:10:36 Even more interesting, I just got my disk to be detected. For a while. Just after, it disappeared from the gui and I wasn't able to format it. :-( **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue May 31 23:59:56 2005
