But the kernel can only be 1MB in size, so compiling the modules in is not possible. Even putting them in the initrd is tricky, as the initrd is already stuffed with other things. If you can create a initrd-image with nfs + configuration + network and nfs-remote-boot script ... well yes. But that's no longer unslung.
