**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Mar 21 10:59:57 2006 Mar 21 14:26:54 anyone using sr_mod on unslung? Mar 21 15:20:59 <_spilotes> hallo Mar 21 15:22:17 <_spilotes> ca i run a linuxapp on the nslug without connect a usb-hdd Mar 21 15:25:33 <_spilotes> has nobody a answer Mar 21 15:36:56 * pahartik has got answers and questions Mar 21 15:44:28 pahartik: hi there Mar 21 15:44:47 pahartik: if you remember from yesterday you mentioned me about sr_mod Mar 21 15:44:51 hello drif Mar 21 15:46:09 pahartik: got these after insmod: insmod: unresolved symbol cdrom_open Mar 21 15:47:10 drif: well, yes... do you see anything with "dmesg | tail" or "logread | tail" after trying? Mar 21 15:48:32 nope Mar 21 15:49:13 last line is usb.c: USB disconnect on device 00:01.2-2 address 3 - but hasn't changed since retry Mar 21 15:49:14 * pahartik has only used IEEE-1394 storage devices and OpenSlug... separately, of tourse Mar 21 15:49:55 so apparently cd/dvd under unslung isn't possible? Mar 21 15:50:46 drif: did you install "kernel-module-cdrom" package too? Mar 21 15:51:03 well, no I didn't Mar 21 15:52:11 hm, seems mroe quiet now :P Mar 21 15:52:13 more Mar 21 15:52:54 and dmesg is much more promising :) Mar 21 15:53:28 any clues about /dev? Mar 21 15:53:52 drif: "/dev/cdroms/cdrom0"? Mar 21 15:54:03 no cdroms Mar 21 15:55:57 drif: "/dev/scsi/host?/bus?/target?/lun?/disc"? Mar 21 15:56:48 no scsi branch either Mar 21 15:57:22 drif: "/dev/scd?"? Mar 21 15:57:48 sc0 could be it Mar 21 15:58:51 complained about read-only (forgot to set the option) and then next line: mount: Mounting /dev/scd0 on /cdrom failed: Invalid argument Mar 21 15:59:12 scd0 I meant Mar 21 16:02:07 drif: does that device get detected? "dmesg | tail" should show manufacturer and model... **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Mar 21 16:07:35 2006 Mar 21 16:11:51 drif: use "http://pastebin.com/" to show output of "dmesg", "ipkg list_installed", "lsmod"...? Mar 21 16:12:30 drif: or use some other HTTP server... Mar 21 16:15:54 For a CDrom did you remember to use the "-t iso9660" option on mount as well (that will also require that you installed the "isofs" kernel module) Mar 21 16:16:42 mwester: unless it is "UDF"... Mar 21 16:19:32 True! But I haven't seen a UDF CD in a looooong while... Mar 21 16:19:34 ISO9660+joliet Mar 21 16:19:55 and dvd actually Mar 21 16:20:51 dvd-data you mean, right -- you need a different drive to read the video. Mar 21 16:20:56 drif: "disktype" on workstation is good for figuring out what is stored on block device (type of partition map or disk label, filesystems within them...) Mar 21 16:20:58 c/drive/driver/ Mar 21 16:21:54 mwester: which is that? Mar 21 16:22:15 libdvdread? Mar 21 16:22:46 or is that for programmers Mar 21 16:27:08 I don't even know which driver that would be; I've never even considered using it on an NSLU2. Mar 21 16:28:15 all my data is nowadays on dvd Mar 21 16:29:53 Well as long as it is data it should be readable by the isofs driver AFAIK Mar 21 16:30:15 drif: "libdvdread" is only needed if one plans on running media player that is linked to that library (like "gxine" or "VLC") and using DVD video discs Mar 21 16:39:02 drif: what Unslung version are you using, and have you any luck in getting your CD/DVD mounted yet? Mar 21 17:15:43 mwester: 5.5b Mar 21 17:16:37 mwester: all I get when searching for isofstools is cdrtools package Mar 21 17:17:02 s/tools/driver Mar 21 17:20:30 mwester: sorry, you must have meant kernel-module Mar 21 17:21:41 which of course wasn't offered as .ipk Mar 21 17:28:47 Er, yes, I did mean kernel-module. For 5.5 you have to build it yoursef from source; for 6.x it will be in the feeds. You might try the unstable feeds to see if the 6.x kernel module is available yet (I don't think so, but might be worth looking for). Mar 21 17:34:09 mwester: ok, I'll look into it and install vmware + ubuntu system...recommended? Mar 21 17:36:17 It's been done before (vmware ubuntu). If you wait, I can put a 5.5 isofs.o for download somewhere though. I have to run to a meeting, so I can do that in an hour or so... Mar 21 17:37:23 mwester: you could do that? I'd really appreciate it :) Mar 21 17:38:01 just let me know when you're around Mar 21 20:17:07 drif: http://users.dls.net/~mwester/unslung/isofs.o Mar 21 20:23:44 mwester: thank you Mar 21 20:34:42 mwester: do I need any other modules? Mar 21 20:34:48 loaded Mar 21 20:39:51 mwester: seems to work now :) thanks again Mar 21 21:05:05 mwester: does it offer joliet support by any chance? Mar 21 21:06:18 That I do not know, I'm afraid. It would depend (I think) on how it was compiled originally, but I didn't compile that one so I don' t know. I'll add the Unslung 6.x version of isofs.o to the web site; that one I did compile and it has Joliet turned on AFAIK. Mar 21 21:09:06 try this one if the 5.5 version doesn't work: http://users.dls.net/~mwester/unslung/isofs.o.unslung6 Mar 21 21:09:11 thanks Mar 21 21:11:24 yesh :) it works Mar 22 01:52:24 why my nslu2 stops responding sometimes (often) when I remove or insert my usb stick Mar 22 02:14:38 * pahartik just managed to configure Linksys NSLU2 to "beep" whenever Bluetooth "PIN" authentication is attempted or "bnep0" network interface comes up Mar 22 02:15:40 ..."bnep0" as in "bnep*"... Mar 22 05:46:12 how can i change disk1's ext3 fs options? usually i would pass the kernel some boot parameters (e.g. bootflags=sync, data=journal). where does this go in unslung? Mar 22 05:48:23 another question: how can i force full fsck on boot rather than journal-only checking? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Wed Mar 22 10:59:56 2006
