**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue May 23 10:00:00 2006 May 23 12:17:59 hi there. we have openslug and jamvm (java virtual machine) 1.2.4 installed and are wondering how to install jamvm 1.4.2 May 23 12:29:15 or more gerally, i have the source for jamvm 1.4.3, how can i install that on the slug? i probably have to make some kind of .ipk to use ipkg install jamvm? May 23 13:12:16 hm, noone? :( May 23 13:17:24 could anyone explain few SCSI disk error lines (dmesg) for me? May 23 13:37:40 hi cap May 23 14:41:14 Paste the lines here, drif so that we can take a look at least... May 23 14:49:33 does someone know an alternative to pastebin.com? they seem to have a little too much load on their server May 23 16:47:24 hi May 23 16:47:30 anyone alive? May 23 16:48:52 i have an nslu2 but gave up on it long ago May 23 16:49:03 because it would 'freeze' every time i tried to transfer a large file May 23 16:49:19 i wonder if that problem is known and solved in the later unslungs May 23 16:51:58 hey capbot May 23 16:55:50 samba 3 is available maybe that helps with large files got no problems like that May 23 16:56:03 but my files are mainly around 300mb May 23 16:56:35 maybe, that something is wrong with your network setup... May 23 16:57:35 and, you should disable upnp too, is the whole network environment May 23 17:00:21 ah May 23 17:00:23 hmm May 23 17:00:31 i can't recall having it on May 23 17:00:38 but i have spare usb disk now May 23 17:00:47 so i thought about digging it up from under the dirt May 23 17:03:24 hold on, my router blasted out too, gotta replace it May 23 18:12:20 cap: could you help me with few SCSI disk error lines I get? May 23 18:13:30 when downloading that MasterMakefile, is 'make openslug' enough to.. like.. build the latest version of jamvm? or do i need 'make setup', 'make ....' ...? May 23 18:18:23 drif, dunno, but as mwester-away mentioned above, just c+p it here (~5-10 lines i would say), and maybe that someone have an idea about that May 23 18:27:45 SCSI disk error : host 1 channel 0 id 0 lun 0 return code = 8000000 May 23 18:27:46 Current sd08:01: sns = 70 b May 23 18:27:46 ASC= 8 ASCQ= 3 May 23 18:27:46 Raw sense data:0x70 0x00 0x0b 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0a 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x08 0x03 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 I/O error: dev 08:01, sector 7340048 May 23 18:30:09 I seem have missed mwester's reply May 23 19:08:31 drif: the fact that it's calling out a sector number is concerning. Does it consistenly call out the same (or nearby) sectors? Frankly, I would take the drive out, put it in a PC (IDE-attached), and run a full disk diagnostic (like the IBM disktest for IBM/Hitachi drives, which works on a few others as well). May 23 19:19:33 djoek: A problem involving high volumes of file I/O with NTFS disks has been reproduced. The problem also appears, however, on the stock Linksys R63 Firmware, which virtually confirms the suspicion that it is a bug in the proprietary NTFS module for which we have no source. So, to answer your question: if you are using NTFS there might be a problem with heavy I/O. However if you are using... May 23 19:19:34 ...the native ext3 format, there are no known confirmed problems with Unslung 6.8. Hope that helps... May 23 19:25:15 mwester: the same sector has come up several times - so far only four entrys - including once sector 131596304 May 23 19:25:37 entries May 23 19:31:22 mwester: I've though those errors concern my storage-drive but it seems host 1 refers to my system-drive May 23 19:33:40 Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: WDC WD80 Model: 0VE-07HDT0 Rev: 0000 May 23 19:36:44 That certainly could be. That sector is in the 64GB area, so it would be on the "data" partition on the system drive. May 23 19:39:29 i'm back :D May 23 19:39:31 hi May 23 19:39:31 with bad news :( May 23 19:39:40 get 6.8, unslung and all May 23 19:39:50 tried copying some files to it May 23 19:40:03 then it just disappearrs from the network after a few 100Mb May 23 19:40:14 and can't get on the web interface even May 23 19:41:03 mwester-away: so hostX and scsiX have same numbering? May 23 19:41:09 telnet froze as well May 23 19:42:20 mwester-away: only thing is I'm not (atleast knowingly) accessing anything on that 64G area on my system-drive at the moment - I'm downloading to my storage drive May 23 19:42:34 djoek, tell us something about your network setup... fixed ip or dhcp, do you use a switch or a hub... ? May 23 19:42:35 64GB May 23 19:42:42 fixed ip May 23 19:42:46 switched May 23 19:43:01 using a windows XP to copy files to the share May 23 19:43:04 and all devices are on 100mbit/s ? May 23 19:43:10 yes May 23 19:43:17 hm.. May 23 19:43:25 djoek: Do you have a ntfs disk connected to the slug? May 23 19:43:33 marcel, no May 23 19:43:39 a blank disk, straight from the box May 23 19:44:24 djoek, are you sure, that no device in your network would use upnp (like some routers do)? May 23 19:44:46 no May 23 19:44:51 i asked here earlier May 23 19:45:00 made usre upnp was disabled on all devices May 23 19:46:13 * caplink811-log have no more ideas at all... :( May 23 19:46:19 all i can do now is reset May 23 19:46:37 if i push the power button it doesn't react at all May 23 19:46:49 I have had the same thing May 23 19:46:50 Pull the cable May 23 19:46:59 drif, how did yo ufix it? May 23 19:47:22 well, I moved from flash to usb-hdd - has done much less (if any) since May 23 19:47:48 this is a usb hdd May 23 19:47:53 Lacie Porsche May 23 19:48:25 cap: you got any ideas on my scsi errors? May 23 19:48:47 nope (a bad evening it is...) May 23 19:50:13 and only seems to get better ... my nslu2 just froze May 23 19:50:43 djoek: What is the air temperature around the usb hdd? Can you try to put a fan on it or cool it some other way? (The Lacie drives are said to be very hot and have had many reported complaints - perhaps that is contributing to the problem). May 23 19:51:01 room temp May 23 19:51:11 I had a lacie drive broke and when I got it back from service, it was still broken May 23 19:51:15 i can easily put my hand on it May 23 19:51:16 for a while it seems - and while doing that it skipped my ftp-transfer by one file May 23 19:51:33 i had this problem for ever May 23 19:51:52 with different kinds of disks May 23 19:51:56 different firmwares May 23 19:51:58 always the same May 23 19:52:21 no matter which files i copy May 23 19:52:35 it stops at differnt points in teh copy too May 23 19:56:07 drif, are you able to run a full fsck.ext3 on your disk from a "real" linux box, e.g. knoppix or something like that? May 23 19:56:12 it feels like a kernel bug May 23 19:57:27 cap: what I'd like to know does /proc/scsi/scsi: Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 refer to SCSI disk error : host 1 channel 0 id 0 lun 0 return code = 8000000 (dmesg-line) May 23 19:57:57 so I could atleast check the right drive May 23 19:58:38 what official release is 6.8 based on? May 23 19:59:20 djoek does the disk work outside the slug? May 23 19:59:28 yes May 23 19:59:30 perfectly May 23 19:59:36 you have run badblocks on it etc? May 23 19:59:37 it's copying fine now for almost a gig May 23 19:59:40 no May 23 20:00:24 have you tried other versions besides 6.8? May 23 20:00:37 yes May 23 20:00:38 plenty May 23 20:00:40 in the past May 23 20:00:46 4, 3, one of the first too May 23 20:00:50 all have the same problem May 23 20:00:55 the official fws do too May 23 20:01:11 that's quite bizarre May 23 20:01:27 my friend has 2 porches with unslung, dunno which version May 23 20:01:42 i think the problem is my slug May 23 20:02:07 have you soldered it too much or anything heh? May 23 20:02:09 :) May 23 20:02:14 no May 23 20:02:20 it's in it's original state May 23 20:02:24 has been like this since day one May 23 20:02:32 drif: scsi0 == host0/bus0/target0/lun0 == sda == USB Port 2 on unslung 6.8 May 23 20:02:34 when did you buy it? is it too late for a refund? May 23 20:02:41 or, replacing it... May 23 20:02:48 drif: So scsi1 is the drive on USB Port 1... May 23 20:02:49 drif, just check both ;) May 23 20:02:56 too late :) May 23 20:03:01 i thought i'd get it fixed May 23 20:03:14 fortunately the slug is quite inexpensive.. May 23 20:04:01 yeah well May 23 20:04:06 i'm not buying a new one May 23 20:06:20 i do notice May 23 20:06:26 i have my disk on port 1 May 23 20:06:34 and i read now it's not advised May 23 20:06:48 Do you have one disk? May 23 20:06:51 yes May 23 20:06:59 and don't plan to put another one on it May 23 20:07:11 and the system-drive being usb-only attachable (no IDE-possibility) doesn't change things? May 23 20:07:15 In that case it's oke. May 23 20:07:24 ok May 23 20:07:35 it does only see the first partition May 23 20:08:03 What tells the mount command? May 23 20:08:41 mwester/cap: how could I calculate the position which to read via dd so I could reproduce the error? May 23 20:09:04 hmm May 23 20:09:11 can't web interface in to activate telnet May 23 20:10:39 drif, dunno.. May 23 20:12:08 marceln: were you asking me? May 23 20:13:51 if so, yes, i can see the second partition May 23 20:14:02 but i can't use it apparently May 23 20:14:57 ahhh May 23 20:15:00 i have something May 23 20:16:28 smb crashes May 23 20:16:30 http://pastebin.com/733728 May 23 20:21:10 Adding Swap: 120480k swap-space (priority -1) May 23 20:21:10 Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 27eedb28 May 23 20:21:43 It's start swapping and crashes on page request. May 23 20:22:09 it seems, that there is something weird wrong.. May 23 20:22:40 Probably you should check the disk independent of the slug. May 23 20:23:01 Check if the partition table is correct May 23 20:23:26 Check if the disk is completely readable May 23 20:24:08 no, i had this with different disks May 23 20:24:16 this one is bbrand new and i checked it May 23 20:24:22 chatting with linksys support now May 23 20:24:46 lines 2-32 are errors from the jffs2, are you sure, that your disk is realy unslinged?
