**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Nov 26 02:59:57 2006 Nov 26 04:45:17 hi all Nov 26 04:45:28 how do I add a new group ? **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Nov 26 05:45:37 2006 **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Nov 26 06:19:27 2006 Nov 26 08:18:56 morning Nov 26 08:29:50 hello Nov 26 08:32:46 morning Nov 26 08:34:00 I am using debianSlug and suddenly the slug has started to blink the status led between green and yelow Nov 26 08:34:21 Before it was always just green Nov 26 11:50:23 hm..this is almost offtopic, but I got a application running on my openslug. It seems application use a lot of buffers and its increasing, and free ram decrease. what will happend, when ram is 0, will buffersize go down, or will it swap? google wasnt helpful... Nov 26 11:52:21 that is to say i dont really understand what is "buffer! Nov 26 11:52:37 "buffer" Nov 26 12:50:09 can somebody help me get rtorrent running? Running latest unslung. I can start it and add torrents, but they never start downloading! If I force a hash check I get an error saying: Hashing: Storage error: [Hash checker was unable to map chunk: Invalid argumen Nov 26 12:50:09 Nov 26 12:52:50 another thing question is how do you login to your slugs? Do you use the root account or do you create an user account? What about file rights? If I run rtorrent as root and save the downloads to at public folder, will they be readable from other pc's reading the shares? Nov 26 12:53:06 -thing :-) Nov 26 13:09:23 oled, create a user account wit id 1000, put him into the wheel group and the sudoers file, use su and sudo Nov 26 13:10:13 janne5011: you need to create some swap space on your hard drive(s) using mkswap and swapon, otherwise processes will be terminated when physical ram runs out Nov 26 13:10:22 ok Nov 26 13:22:10 hmm.. I get an unknow group name: wheel Nov 26 14:31:10 kfm82...ok thanks Nov 26 15:20:47 hi Nov 26 15:28:17 can anyone help me with samba? i configured 3 shares - admin2, disk2 and disk1 but when connecting i also see hdd_1_1_1 and i cant access the disk1-share Nov 26 15:41:14 rexsdog: so check what this symlinked file specifies: /etc/samba/smb.conf -> /share/hdd/conf/share/smb.conf Nov 26 15:41:51 fortunately, samba does support config changes at runtime without a restart Nov 26 15:41:51 yeah i checked that already Nov 26 15:42:03 any mention of hdd_XXX in there_ Nov 26 15:42:07 everything is alright Nov 26 15:42:11 nope :( Nov 26 15:42:24 smbpasswd looks ok as well? Nov 26 15:44:09 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Nov 26 17:00 smbpasswd -> /share/flh/conf/smbpasswd Nov 26 15:45:32 flh!? is that a symlink pointing somewhere else? certainly not a stock slug mount point Nov 26 15:46:19 its /share/flash/conf/smbpasswd Nov 26 15:46:26 paste didnt work correctly ;) Nov 26 15:46:44 i see Nov 26 15:47:19 and the password specified inside that smbpasswd are the same ones you enter when trying to mount? any specific error messages? Nov 26 15:47:29 yes Nov 26 15:47:40 i assume you are working with windows on the client side? xp? home or pro? Nov 26 15:47:54 xp home Nov 26 15:48:37 no error messages on the windows side? Nov 26 15:48:49 one mom im checking something Nov 26 15:49:09 perhaps you have configured some software firewalls in windows, e.g. zonealarm or sp2? Nov 26 15:49:49 nope i think i did sth wrong in the conf file, one mom Nov 26 15:50:16 ok i can access the share now :) Nov 26 15:50:26 but i do still have that ugly hdd_1_1_1 share Nov 26 15:50:33 although its not in the smb.conf file Nov 26 15:52:07 strange. have you tried locating possible other smb.conf files on your system? Nov 26 15:52:23 nope, let me check that real quick Nov 26 15:54:02 ok nice got it Nov 26 15:54:08 user_smb.conf included in another smb.conf Nov 26 15:54:53 also, cat /share/hdd/conf/share/share.info - that file seems to be generated by the stock web interface Nov 26 15:55:25 if you add a share via the linksys thttpd interface, it gets written into that file Nov 26 15:58:57 if HDD_1_1_1 is no longer a real share, just rm /etc/win_share.info and restart. Nov 26 15:59:38 Use "DO_Reboot" to restart, not "reboot" as the "reboot" and "halt" commands are more like a semi-controlled crash on the slug. Nov 26 15:59:54 ok Nov 26 16:00:01 thanks for that Nov 26 16:00:05 mwester, why would you tell him to unnecessarily reboot his entire box just to kill a stale samba share Nov 26 16:00:18 * kfm82 just celebrates 100 days of unslung uptime since last power cycle Nov 26 16:01:07 takes close to 10 minutes to bring it back up in many cases Nov 26 16:02:44 because I'm too lazy to sort through all the linksys code to decipher the spagetti logic to undo the erroneous share by hand. Congratulations on the uptime. It's not something most people consider important with a slug, though. Nov 26 16:03:07 mwester, i am curious, what then do they consider important? Nov 26 16:03:16 That it works. Nov 26 16:03:38 true Nov 26 16:03:55 If restarting the device to correct a problem takes 10 minutes (or 2 minutes for mine), that's preferable to poking about in Linksys code for 10 hours. Nov 26 16:05:03 mwester, unless for certain people who would rather write their own dirty little /opt/etc/init.d script to override linksys config files with their custom versions Nov 26 16:05:25 as i should be doing on my buffalo linkstation (mipsel) in any case Nov 26 16:07:46 When most folks begin doing the custom diversion scripts for core Unslung functionality, IMO that's when they should consider OpenSlug instead - they've graduated! ;) Nov 26 16:08:27 mwester, true, but i would still be somewhat wary of reflashing yet again... i could see myself doing more of a chroot Nov 26 16:08:59 also, the stock thttpd interface is nice to keep around just in case Nov 26 16:09:08 it's fluffy Nov 26 16:13:48 so i want to compile irssi-0.8.10 on the buffalo linkstation (mipsel/openlink) (currently running on unslung 5.5) ... any caveats? Nov 26 16:21:13 mwester: no matter what i do, when i delete win_share.info and reboot, win_share.info is there again and the share hdd_1_1_1 is also still there. Nov 26 16:27:26 rexsdog: seems like a job for an init script then Nov 26 16:28:38 rexsdog: do you have a FAT or an NTFS partition on the disk or flash memory device, then? Nov 26 16:29:13 have flash disks been formatted in NTFS? Nov 26 16:29:21 Sure. Nov 26 16:30:00 * kfm82 has only formatted USB sticks in HFS+ while playing around Nov 26 16:36:55 my flash drive which is the root is EXT3 Nov 26 16:37:01 my harddrive is NTFS Nov 26 16:37:50 hi there. I want to set up a wiki page on my slug. It is currently hosting web pages fine, and is running unslung6.8 - anyone know how I go about adding a wiki page? Nov 26 16:38:25 rexsdog: and your slug is writing to the ntfs disk with confidence? Nov 26 16:38:38 no more fears of data corruption? Nov 26 16:38:54 Jassossovinik: install a php/sql driven wiki solution Nov 26 16:39:20 kfm82, is there one in the nslu2 unslung repository? Nov 26 16:39:29 (i;ve never done anything with wiki's before) Nov 26 16:39:57 dokuwiki - 2006-03-09e-1 - DokuWiki is a standards compliant, simple to use Wiki Nov 26 16:40:01 mediawiki - 1.4.0-2 - A fast, full-featured, wiki based on php. Nov 26 16:40:03 py-moin - 1.5.5a-1 - MoinMoin is a nice and easy WikiEngine with advanced features, providing collaboration on easily editable web pages. Nov 26 16:40:08 kfm, dont know, i didnt check it yet Nov 26 16:40:42 rexsdog: if you have an NTFS hard drive, then the HDD_1_1_1 share is as it should be, there is nothing wrong. Nov 26 16:41:18 kfm82, do you have any knowledge of any of their merits other than what they say? Nov 26 16:41:31 mwester: duh Nov 26 16:41:54 Jassossovinik: read the respective ipkg infos and decide for yourself.... mediawiki is in wide usage all over the world Nov 26 16:42:05 ok :-) Nov 26 16:42:15 mwester: there is nothing i can do to remove it :( ? Nov 26 16:42:20 mwester: or at least to rename it Nov 26 16:42:27 Why do you want to remove it? What is the problem? Nov 26 16:44:45 If you wish to change the fundamental behavior of the shares and disks on Unslung, you should consider using a diversion script to disable the Linksys samba entirely, replace it with your own, and manage your own shares via the standard Samba config files. This is documented (at least at a general level) in the wiki, as there are others who have had need to replace the Linksys Samba server.... Nov 26 16:44:46 ... What you wish to do can be done, but not easily. Nov 26 16:48:08 mwester, are you suggesting linksys actually modified samba to alter behaviour at source level? i thought it was just the web interface generating its own config files? Nov 26 17:01:08 mwester: i am using a diversion script accordingly to nslu2-linux.org but i still have the same problem Nov 26 17:02:46 I tried installing dokuwiki, i copied the files to the relevant place, but when I try going to the webpage it doesn't work properly: http://lunarlamp.dyndns.org/dokuwiki/ Nov 26 17:07:56 did you install apache, php, mysql? Nov 26 17:09:09 php already installed Nov 26 17:09:09 mysql installed Nov 26 17:09:20 apache must be installed as i had other pages already viewable... Nov 26 17:09:38 associated bindings? php-mysql and so on? Nov 26 17:10:01 php-mysql is already installed Nov 26 17:10:14 apache isn't though, i#ve been using thhttp? Nov 26 17:10:39 yes you have indeed Nov 26 17:10:52 is that an issue? Nov 26 17:11:26 http://lunarlamp.dyndns.org/dokuwiki/index.php <== I don't understand why this is being shown as code and not as a "page" of whatever it's supposed to be Nov 26 17:12:02 Jassossovinik: iirc mediawiki would require mysql, dokuwiki does not Nov 26 17:12:12 you need to install apache2, php, mysql, php-mysql bindings, enable the respective .so apache modules, put thttpd and httpd on the proper ports, route them, restart apache Nov 26 17:12:50 in other words, for dokuwiki, php-mysql or mysql is not needed Nov 26 17:13:05 eno, ok Nov 26 17:13:06 i suggest using cherokee or lighttpd Nov 26 17:13:21 instead of apache Nov 26 17:13:59 for the slug, apache uses too much resource Nov 26 17:14:53 yeah, i don't use apache at the moment Nov 26 17:14:58 http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/DeployPHPWebAppUsingFastCGI Nov 26 17:15:01 i already have a working site that doesn't use apache Nov 26 17:15:16 http://lunarlamp.dyndns.org/ Nov 26 17:15:23 i was trying to graft the wiki pages into that Nov 26 17:15:25 is thttpd + php working? Nov 26 17:16:13 how do I test? Nov 26 17:16:19 nope Nov 26 17:18:28 the DeployPHPWebAppUsingFastCGI page has a small info.php test page Nov 26 17:18:46 you can use that to test thttpd+php setting as well Nov 26 17:19:52 kfm82: Linksys did not modify Samba AFAIK -- but the creation/management of the shares and the controlling of the samba daemon is embedded into the fundamental processes that make up the Linksys firmware. The USB_Detect processes, for example, will trigger the code to write/rewrite the config files for shares, and eventually result in Samba re-reading those files. I am not saying that it... Nov 26 17:19:53 ...is not possible to reverse-engineer the entire Linksys scheme for managing samba shares; I am simply saying that nobody has ever documented same, and from what I know it appears that the effort in figuring out how all that works and building and testing all the use cases involved far far exceeds the effort of manually managing samba ones self. JMO. Nov 26 17:21:37 rexsdog: I do not know what diversion script you are using, but I am suggesting that you disable the Linksys samba entirely, and replace it with your own with your own config files -- that would require that you write your own diversion scripts. I cannot tell you more, as I've never done it (it's my opinion that by the time one gets to that level of customization of the core, fundamental... Nov 26 17:21:39 ...features that make Unslung what it is, one is better off going with OpenSlug which is more standard). Nov 26 17:23:42 i see, thanks for the elaborations Nov 26 17:29:37 yay, seems my irssi build on the mipsel-linkstation worked out after all Nov 26 17:30:25 even the stripped irssi binary is still almost double the size compared to the slug (1.3 megs vs. 724k)... and when i quit, i get a glibc related segfault Nov 26 17:35:21 ouch Nov 26 17:36:13 hi again Nov 26 17:36:25 i fixed my diversion script and everything is working now. Nov 26 17:37:03 only one problem left, as soon as my nslu2 is started and i connect to my network, my windows pc complains about its name existing in the network already Nov 26 17:38:17 Hmm, topic is missing on this channel? Was looking for url to the wiki. Nov 26 17:38:30 www.nslu2-linux.org Nov 26 17:38:35 Thanks. Nov 26 17:38:49 rexsdog: name as in dns / dhcp name? Nov 26 17:39:03 or rather as in windows workgroup / domain / server name? Nov 26 17:39:19 i guess windows workgroup Nov 26 17:42:59 so do the names match according to smb.conf? Nov 26 17:43:16 one mom let me check in my network listing Nov 26 17:43:32 hmm Nov 26 17:43:37 if i check my workgroup Nov 26 17:43:37 i see no pcs Nov 26 17:43:37 :( Nov 26 17:44:10 watch out for the "browsable = yes / no" flag in your smb.conf Nov 26 17:46:08 what if i have no browseable flag at all in my smb.conf? Nov 26 17:46:36 rexsdog: i am not sure, but browsing might be disabled by default then. try putting it in there Nov 26 18:06:20 one moment, brb Nov 26 18:33:02 well although added browseable=yes to my smb.conf i still cant see my networkstorage in the windows network list and still have the problem about window complaining... Nov 26 18:42:39 also i have one directory that has a lot of files on my nslu2's ntfs harddisk... cant browse this directory via samba i dont get a direcotry listing Nov 26 18:47:04 which uid and gid you used while mounting? Nov 26 18:47:20 how can i check? Nov 26 18:47:32 beside that i dont think its because of uid and gid Nov 26 18:47:39 i think its too many files for samba? Nov 26 18:48:02 anyways the files inside the dir and the dir belong to guest/everyone Nov 26 18:48:04 other dirs work ok on that partition? Nov 26 18:50:02 yep Nov 26 18:50:03 all other dirs Nov 26 18:54:39 then it could be limitation ok...how many files/subdirs are we talking about? Nov 26 18:59:24 uhm Nov 26 18:59:28 any idea how i can check with ls :)? Nov 26 19:13:18 sorry got disconnected Nov 26 19:13:46 so how can i check how many files there are in the directory? does samba limit on amount per directory of files at all ? Nov 26 19:34:21 can anyone help i did a mistake and now my nslu2 is not reachable over the network anymore. what is the best way to restore it? Nov 26 19:44:28 no one here who can help :(? Nov 26 19:50:04 rex: what kind of mistake Nov 26 19:50:24 i switched the box to dhcp Nov 26 19:50:36 and it seems like my dhcp doesnt give it any address :( Nov 26 19:51:41 rexsdog: there is a default ip, i think it is 192.168.1.77 Nov 26 19:52:07 yeah but it seems like my nslu2 doesnt even have this ip at th emoment Nov 26 19:52:19 tried searching for it through the setup utility Nov 26 19:52:47 ping broadcast and see who is answering Nov 26 19:53:08 ping 255.255.255.255 Nov 26 19:53:26 in windows?? Nov 26 19:56:57 the nslu2?? Nov 26 19:59:54 brb Nov 26 20:08:24 hi again Nov 26 20:08:25 got my nslu2 back, but i just decided switching to debianslug Nov 26 20:08:55 can i install openslug on my nslu2 without the upgrade utility also? by just updating the firmware from the unslung web-interface? upgrade utility doesnt work on my pc Nov 26 20:12:12 rexdog do you use win? Nov 26 20:12:16 yep Nov 26 20:12:33 upgrade ut. should work... Nov 26 20:12:58 i dont think webinterface will work Nov 26 20:13:34 hmm ok damn, my windows installation is s f*cked up that upgrade utility is giving an error when starting Nov 26 20:13:34 :) Nov 26 20:13:40 let me try in safe mode Nov 26 20:13:41 brb Nov 26 20:13:44 aha lol Nov 26 20:21:51 how can i make sure swap really works? shouldnt that partittion show up when I type mount Nov 26 20:22:00 well i cant get upgrade utility to work on my windows installation :( Nov 26 20:22:13 is there maybe any application for cygwin that can do the job? Nov 26 20:26:09 i think i was wrong before you can use webinterface=) Nov 26 20:26:13 http://www.cyrius.com/debian/nslu2/install.html Nov 26 20:28:03 oh nic Nov 26 20:28:04 nice Nov 26 20:30:54 btw. Nov 26 20:31:11 will a 512mb memory stick as root drive be enough for an opendebianslug system? Nov 26 20:32:09 ppl say its no good idea to use mem stick.. i tried anyway and got stuck becuse partition failed.not recommended- Nov 26 20:32:53 I don't know about opendebianslug, but I've got regular plain-jane debian installed on a 1gb drive using just about 500mb (a bit less before I started adding random packages) Nov 26 20:33:29 Debian-installer doesn't like it though, for some reason. You'll have to manually configure and enable swap Nov 26 20:34:07 yes and thats a nighmare=) Nov 26 20:36:15 sorry got discocnnected again Nov 26 20:36:25 well i dont want to stick with unslung :( Nov 26 20:39:47 how much will opendebianslug take withou any additional packages? Nov 26 20:41:04 raher anwered before think upu missed it becuse you was disconnected Nov 26 20:41:06 rexsdog: i haven't actually installed debian on my slug, but i suppose it would be somewhere around 600 megs (that's a typical installation on i386) Nov 26 20:54:32 Hi I need help Nov 26 20:54:46 I have installed unslung fw Nov 26 20:55:02 and I have an USB memory stick plugged in to Disk 2 Nov 26 20:55:38 When I want to enable telnet I get "unable to save data to file" Nov 26 20:55:51 without the stick plugged in I can enable telnet Nov 26 20:55:54 Any ideas? Nov 26 20:58:09 rexsdog: Right after installation, my stystem was about 375Mb + swap partition. So room will be tight on a 512mb stick Nov 26 20:58:39 gig sticks are around 15 euros, don't be a penny pincher Nov 26 20:58:54 I've seen it work with a 512 mem stick Nov 26 20:59:15 why would it work without the stick plugged in? Nov 26 21:00:12 WfromP: please carefully restate your question so people might try and help you Nov 26 21:01:11 when I want to enable telnet with my memory stick plugged in I get "unable to save data to file" Nov 26 21:01:30 when the stick is not plugged in, i can enable telnet without any problems Nov 26 21:01:39 i see. did you boot from the stick in the former case? Nov 26 21:01:53 does it perhaps have a write protection latch on the outside somewhere? Nov 26 21:03:10 yes I used it for my unslung NSLU before, it was running fine Nov 26 21:03:33 but I have to rebuild the whole configuration and I've been stuck for a while Nov 26 21:04:35 Reformat the stick to a FAT single-partition; the linksys firmware is automatically-mounting it, which is confusing the (simple-minded) telnet-enable code. Nov 26 21:04:55 I use XP for that? Nov 26 21:06:10 whatever works - is not important what formats it, just that it is partitioned and/or formatted in such a way that the Linksys code no longer recognizes it as a natively-formatted device. I use Windows 2000 usually. Nov 26 21:07:44 ok it's formatted Nov 26 21:07:57 I boot the slug with the stick plugged in? Nov 26 21:08:24 in disk 2? Nov 26 21:08:25 booting... Nov 26 21:08:33 Best if you boot without anything plugged in, enable telnet, log in, then plug in the disk or stick and format same. Nov 26 21:09:01 ok, I cancelled the boot process Nov 26 21:09:08 now booting without the stick Nov 26 21:11:07 booting complete Nov 26 21:11:08 win /9 Nov 26 21:11:30 telnet enabled Nov 26 21:11:47 stick plugged in Nov 26 21:12:27 now formatting using wen interface Nov 26 21:12:32 web interface Nov 26 21:13:11 mwester: should i then reboot with the stick in place or unsling to the stick directly? Nov 26 21:14:32 Formatting... Nov 26 21:15:01 The README should be pretty clear on that -- if you boot with the stick in place, you will no longer be able to log into the device (the linksys firmware formats the stick and places a password file on disk, and we do not know that password). Nov 26 21:15:35 the formatting is finished Nov 26 21:15:44 It shows; Formatted (FAT16/32) is that normal? Nov 26 21:15:59 The web interface is confused often at this point. Nov 26 21:16:10 what does the "mount" command show Nov 26 21:16:10 so I unsling? Nov 26 21:16:55 damn! Nov 26 21:17:09 I enabled telnet, but I didn't actually log in Nov 26 21:17:16 now I'm locked out... Nov 26 21:17:25 Yep Nov 26 21:17:42 no I'm not... Nov 26 21:17:43 The instructions are your friend! Nov 26 21:18:06 (I've had some unsling attempts earlier on) Nov 26 21:18:26 shut it down, unplug the stick, reboot, re-enable telnet, LOG IN!, insert stick, check "mount" command to see that it's mounted correctly, then unsling. Nov 26 21:19:18 i'll do that Nov 26 21:22:48 '/dev/sda1 on /share/flash/data type ext3 (rw) Nov 26 21:22:50 '/dev/sda2 on /share/flash/conf type ext3 (rw,sync) Nov 26 21:22:51 Does that look ok? Nov 26 21:23:32 it's now unslinging Nov 26 21:23:34 :-) Nov 26 21:24:13 I guess I should follow the instructions, but will I be able to activate telnet with the stick plugged in after rebooting? Nov 26 21:24:58 no answer Nov 26 21:25:06 so i'll have to try... Nov 26 21:25:26 Yes, once properly unslung, all should be well again. But I would suggest that you consider the use of OpenSSH instead of telnet for many reasons... Nov 26 21:25:57 I'd love to use ssh, but I need to get the thing working properly first to install anything Nov 26 21:26:06 (it's now rebooting) Nov 26 21:27:08 nope: I get the same old error when I try to enable telnet Nov 26 21:28:33 Error: unable to save data to file Nov 26 21:28:42 any idea? Nov 26 21:28:58 otherwise I'll just give up for tonight Nov 26 21:30:12 What language settings do you have for the NSLU2? Nov 26 21:30:39 USA (437) Nov 26 21:32:07 Ok. There's something not right about the data or the stick. Shut it down, unplug the flash device, reboot, telnet in, and plug it back in. Nov 26 21:35:10 done Nov 26 21:36:27 what should I do next? Nov 26 21:38:42 What's the output from mount? Nov 26 21:39:28 '/dev/mtdblock4 on / type jffs2 (rw) Nov 26 21:39:30 '/proc on /proc type proc (rw) Nov 26 21:39:31 '/usbdevfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw) Nov 26 21:39:35 '/dev/sda1 on /share/flash/data type ext3 (rw) Nov 26 21:39:36 '/dev/sda2 on /share/flash/conf type ext3 (rw,sync) Nov 26 21:39:53 sorry no slash before usbdevfs Nov 26 21:39:54 and "du -k" Nov 26 21:40:31 that's quite long... Nov 26 21:40:39 what part are you interested in? Nov 26 21:40:59 Sorry, try df -k Nov 26 21:41:27 Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on Nov 26 21:41:29 rootfs 6528 6340 188 97% / Nov 26 21:41:30 '/dev/mtdblock4 6528 6340 188 97% / Nov 26 21:41:32 '/dev/sda1 243983 15268 226196 6% /share/flash/data Nov 26 21:41:33 '/dev/sda2 123923 4139 118505 3% /share/flash/conf Nov 26 21:44:02 Ok. Can you disable and enable telnet at this point? Nov 26 21:44:38 no, I can't disable it Nov 26 21:44:58 Excellent. What are the last several lines of "dmesg"? Nov 26 21:47:58 How are you shutting it down? But even so, it shouldn't have errors. Nov 26 21:48:40 I push the button... Nov 26 21:49:01 Hmmm... no reason for data corruption like that then. Nov 26 21:50:14 Let's check the partition sizes. Nov 26 21:50:25 how do I do that? Nov 26 21:50:44 What's the output from "fdisk -l /dev/sda" (or sdb, whichever it is) Nov 26 21:51:31 Disk /dev/sda: 16 heads, 62 sectors, 1024 cylinders Nov 26 21:51:32 Units = cylinders of 992 * 512 bytes Nov 26 21:51:34 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System Nov 26 21:51:36 '/dev/sda1 1 508 251937 83 Linux Nov 26 21:51:37 '/dev/sda2 509 766 127968 83 Linux Nov 26 21:51:38 '/dev/sda3 767 1024 127968 82 Linux swap Nov 26 21:55:13 Ok. All I can suggest is to take that stick to a windows machine where you can run some tests on it. Reformat it, make sure you can see all 512MB of it, fill it with data of any sort and make sure it's working. Then retry the steps -- you can't proceed until the disk errors you've observed are not present (we could try to fix them, but they shouldn't be present in the first place, so... Nov 26 21:55:18 ...there's no reason to think that whatever caused them won't just break something else -- best to test the device first)... Nov 26 21:56:12 i'll do that and come back later (tomorrow) Nov 26 21:56:22 it's past my bedtime over here Nov 26 21:56:28 thanks for you help so far Nov 26 21:57:05 np - hope it works better tomorrow. Nov 26 21:58:09 maybe I'll just buy a new stick **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Nov 27 02:59:57 2006
