**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Jun 13 02:59:57 2008 Jun 13 08:22:18 hi mwester, oke i will find out what the packages are that i need to compile. Jun 13 12:01:16 Guys, how do I find out the ip address of the slug? I'm on windows. I flashed SlugOS/Be - everything went well. But I'm stuck on ssh. I assigned an ip to the slug. I can ping it on that ip, but I cant get ssh to it via Putty. Jun 13 12:02:22 if its responding to ping, its presumably there Jun 13 12:04:20 yes, but when I start ssh via Putty it says - connection refused on the server. I've just tried to put 192.168.1.77 instead of mine ip (192.168.0.2) and it was thinking very long, but then gave me a connection timeout error. Jun 13 12:17:42 Is the ip address a part of your subnet? Or do you connect directly with a cross-cable? Jun 13 12:18:15 nslu2 is directly connected to my computer Jun 13 12:18:49 I've setup an ip for it, when I ping - there is a response Jun 13 12:19:14 but when I want to start a ssh session it says connection refused Jun 13 12:20:52 in network settings (TCP/IP properties) I've set 192.168.0.3 ip. It pings well. But with putty (ssh on port 22) - error "connection refused by the server" Jun 13 13:11:30 Yes that is strange. PC en nslu2 are in the same subnet? e.g. PC has ip 192.168.0.3 and nslu2 ip 192.168.0.77 and the netmask is 255.255.255.0 on both sides? Jun 13 13:11:52 I think you have, otherwise you can't ping. Jun 13 13:14:20 connection refused byy server messages like that server disconnected. Your use ssh version 2 with putty? Jun 13 13:14:45 You can set it by the ssh options in putty. Jun 13 13:15:14 Connection Refused usually means there's no ssh daemon running on the IP you're trying to connect to Jun 13 13:15:42 btw, first boot of slugos takes several minutes... Jun 13 13:16:40 yep, jou are right. maybe thats the problem of 'sonofnet'. Jun 13 13:18:02 sonofnet, What IP did you set for your slug, and what IP did you set in TCP/IP properties on your computer? Jun 13 13:19:15 the Ip I've set on the computer 192.168.0.3, but I didn't set any Ip on the slug, I've flashed it out of the box. Jun 13 13:20:46 You haven't used the nslu2 before? Jun 13 13:24:28 no Jun 13 13:25:49 according to http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/SlugOS/SlugOSBE it will not work if you haven't used the nslu2 before and set its IP from the linksys interface Jun 13 13:26:55 when I flash back to the linksys firmware I'm dont have a web interface, and the slug is not visible by the setup software Jun 13 13:28:31 What IP do you enter into putty? Jun 13 13:29:23 The one that I've set in my windows tcp/ip properties Jun 13 13:29:32 that's wrong Jun 13 13:29:37 That's your own computer's IP Jun 13 13:29:41 ok Jun 13 13:29:42 Your own computer does not have sshd Jun 13 13:29:55 what should I do? Jun 13 13:30:15 What colour are the LEDs on the nslu2? Jun 13 13:30:33 both green, and I didnt attach the hdd Jun 13 13:31:44 I'd try set your computer to IP 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 Jun 13 13:31:50 ok Jun 13 13:31:53 and see if the nslu2 is on 192.168.1.77 Jun 13 13:32:04 bb Jun 13 13:32:11 I have a problem finding my nslu2 in my network after flashing it with the debian image.... I read, that i had to fill all (even DNS) settings and one i didn't fill DNS settings.... Jun 13 13:32:32 but i can't even find it on 1.77 Jun 13 13:33:05 I'll reboot, and be back in a minute Jun 13 13:35:08 any hint for me? Jun 13 13:36:55 I'm not familiar with debian on nslu2... Jun 13 13:37:22 :-/ Jun 13 13:37:42 if i at least could find it on my net.... Jun 13 13:37:43 OH YES THAT WORKS! :) Jun 13 13:38:06 Ah you found it on 192.168.1.77? Jun 13 13:38:08 Thanks a logt! Jun 13 13:38:25 yes, I guess u may add this to the faq section Jun 13 13:38:35 it the slug has not been set Jun 13 13:38:52 setup the 192.168.1.1 and u'll find it on 1.77 Jun 13 13:39:11 Now I need to initialise it, right? Jun 13 13:40:17 McGo, do you have arping? Jun 13 13:41:15 jep. I just tcpdumped a bit. Theres silence... Jun 13 13:42:38 do you have it connected to your lan, and does your lan have a dhcp server? Jun 13 13:43:30 sonofnet, I guess you'd continue with the installation instructions where they talk about 'turnup' if you want to run it on a flash drive or harddrive and have space to install other software... Jun 13 13:45:04 ShadowJK: I can rebuild what you want. Got i LAN (with this PC) with a DHCP Server and a second lan with a switch, my laptop und the nslu2 with static adresses Jun 13 13:45:21 I've changed the pass, I'll stay with dhcp. Now I'll need to attach the disk and format it. Jun 13 13:45:44 sonofnet, you're not using dhcp though? :-) Jun 13 13:45:50 i will reflash it now... back to start ;-) Jun 13 13:45:54 McGo, actually Jun 13 13:45:59 I will :) Jun 13 13:46:01 McGo: What static IP did you assign? Jun 13 13:46:49 Do i need to setup samba for windows users to be able to copy files? Jun 13 13:46:53 Debian will not honor the static address of 192.168.1.77 -- if you use that address, it will switch to DHCP mode. Apparently this is a "feature", not a bug. Jun 13 13:47:04 My problem is, that i forget to assign a DNS Server. I took .0.50 with 255.255.255.0 netmask and .0.1 as gateway Jun 13 13:47:12 ;-) Jun 13 13:47:54 mwester: I am tcpdumping in another terminal. Silance, only my ubuntu laptop broadcast every 4-5 minutes. Jun 13 13:48:10 It just finished dumping the image and said rebooting ... done Jun 13 13:48:25 ping -b 192.168.0.255 ? :-) Jun 13 13:49:37 though my slug with slugosbe doesn't seem to reply to that Jun 13 13:50:00 broadcast is in progress... how long do i need to wait after flashing until i can connect via ssh? Jun 13 13:50:27 do i have to reboot the slug by pressing the powerbutton or reset thing on the back? Jun 13 14:07:49 So, i waited for 20 minutes now, but my slug doesn't give me the neede 3 beeps (as described on http://www.cyrius.com/debian/nslu2/install.html ) Now, what can I do? Jun 13 14:43:51 i reflashed the original firmware, added the DNS setting, flashed the debian mage and have a ssh connectino right now! Yeaha! Jun 13 14:44:27 McGo: congrats! Jun 13 14:44:45 thx Jun 13 21:31:11 Guys, need some hlp plz Jun 13 21:37:02 I'm trying to attach a disc to my slug, and to transfer the root partition to it. I've attached the disc, but the green lite doesnt indicate it. But I can normally work with the disc. I've used fdisk to create 3 partitions (according to this howto http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/OpenSlug/InitialisingDisks). Then I rebooted. After the reboot, I unmounted /dev/sda1 but I'm not able to create filesystems. In the fdisk partitions are shown as follows: Jun 13 22:01:26 everything seems to be ok. I need to be more carefull when using fdisk... should have worked with /dev/sda instead of /dev/sda1 Jun 14 01:40:47 clean **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Jun 14 02:59:56 2008
