**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Jul 11 02:59:56 2008 Jul 11 08:34:17 Hi, I'm having problems with transmission+clutch running on unslung on nslu2. I got the clutch gui to interact with the transmission-daemon and add the torrents correctly, but after a minute or two the client gets disconnected and if I ssh to the machine the system hangs when i try to access the disk (/share/hdd/data/HDD_1_1_1/) and both http and ssh locks down so I have to restart the nslu2. Any ideas on where to begin the debugging? Jul 11 13:54:42 http://wiki.flexion.org/IntranetServer.html Jul 11 13:55:04 he's using an nslu2 for intranet functions, dns, nfs, samba, etc. Jul 11 13:57:58 quite well written Jul 11 13:58:13 Reedy: glad you liked it. Jul 11 13:58:28 Installing ntpdate (4.2.2p3-r1) to root... Jul 11 13:58:28 Downloading http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/slugosbe/cross/4.8-beta/ntpdate_4.2.2p3-r1_armv5teb.ipk Jul 11 13:58:28 ntpdate: unsatisfied recommendation for iana-etc Jul 11 13:58:28 Nothing to be done Jul 11 13:59:01 what's the right ntp for slugosbe? Jul 11 13:59:29 weird, im on the same ISP, i dont get cut off Jul 11 13:59:32 (as that guy) Jul 11 14:03:10 Reedy: you are in the UK? Jul 11 14:03:16 aye Jul 11 14:14:03 Reedy: what do you use for ntp on your nslu2 Jul 11 14:14:24 dunno, just installed ntp i think on my debian Jul 11 14:14:32 and ntp, ntpdate and something else when i had the unslung one Jul 11 14:15:59 ok, debian for you. i'm on slugos Jul 11 14:16:05 Reedy: thanks Jul 11 14:16:46 chrisb, ntp ntpclient on unslung Jul 11 14:21:08 * Reedy does some tweaking to his nslu2 from that guide Jul 11 14:37:32 what's this iana-etc which i am lacking and which is not compatible with slugosbe evidently? Jul 11 14:38:06 presumably its some dependancy Jul 11 17:43:07 hello, i have a question. the nslu2 needs for booting debian the linux kernel. you must first install the "kernel-firmware" and THEN debian. is it possible to replace the firmware-kernel to an original debian kernel. kernel-updates from debian should be installed with apt-get. Is it possible? Jul 11 17:43:23 :/ Jul 11 17:43:35 just install a firmware image from www.slug-firmware.net Jul 11 17:48:59 Reedy: have this firmware the original debian kernel? works it with the linux-soruce packets? Jul 11 17:50:01 yes, its the debian kernel (the arm version), its just got some NSLU2 specific stuff bundled into it Jul 11 17:50:07 (into the image) Jul 11 17:52:51 Reedy: is it updateable with apt-get? Jul 11 17:52:57 yup Jul 11 17:52:59 fully Jul 11 17:53:19 thanks Jul 11 23:06:39 Hi all Jul 11 23:06:53 anyone around? Jul 11 23:09:11 yes me Jul 11 23:10:00 im just looking for some extra confirmation, about using upslug2 to flash Unslung to my slug Jul 11 23:10:19 ive checked the wiki article on upslug2, but its examples didn't clarify things for me Jul 11 23:10:45 im running it from Ubuntu, hardy heron Jul 11 23:11:59 does this look alright? .... sudo upslug2 --target="00:1e:e5:95:00:27" --image="/home/brian/Desktop/Unslung-6.10-beta.bin" Jul 11 23:12:33 im new to all this linux stuff, been picking things up slowly as i go Jul 11 23:13:45 ive got the slug in upgrade mode, its flashing between green and dark orange Jul 11 23:13:45 i flashed my nslu2 from windows Jul 11 23:13:51 ah right :/ Jul 11 23:14:00 but i use linux Jul 11 23:14:05 i couldn't get the windows util to work Jul 11 23:14:10 so im trying from linux Jul 11 23:14:14 upslug2 is a tool? Jul 11 23:14:26 yeah, to flash the slug Jul 11 23:14:36 cool... isnt there a howto? Jul 11 23:14:59 there is, ive been following it, its just the --image="" part im not sure about, more a general linux query i guess Jul 11 23:15:35 the example in the howto gives the example .... upslug2 --target="xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" --image="openslug.img" Jul 11 23:15:36 whats the problem? Jul 11 23:15:41 what error du you get? Jul 11 23:15:52 it seems to be very simple Jul 11 23:16:01 more simple than windows util Jul 11 23:16:01 nothing, nothing happens at all, no changing leds, no message, no progress of if its working Jul 11 23:16:24 are u sure the nslu2 is visible and connected to your network? Jul 11 23:16:48 DrunkDwarf: i'm not sure whether it's "--image=image.bin" or "--image image.bin" Jul 11 23:17:04 i simply used "-i image.bin" Jul 11 23:17:28 also, the "--target" is only needed if you have more than 1 slug in upgrade mode Jul 11 23:17:44 just checked, and i have a firewall util called Firestarter thats blocking it.... tried again, and got an error message this time Jul 11 23:18:09 timeout occured, sequence error detected Jul 11 23:18:39 without specifying "--target" actually allows upslug2 to detect slug in upgrade mode Jul 11 23:19:06 something is blocking your connection to the nslu2 Jul 11 23:24:12 ok, its not showing under the network browser at all, but upslug2 itself initially finds a NSLU device on the network and provides an address for the device Jul 11 23:26:00 check that the mac adress is correct Jul 11 23:26:14 the windows util to flash the device just gives me the message "Could not get system information correctly. Please exit Upgrade Utility and execute RmDrv.exe which located in the same directory with Upgrade Utility then run Upgrade Utility again." so i gave up on it Jul 11 23:27:00 doomax, what would the command for that be? Jul 11 23:36:54 well, this isn't working Jul 11 23:47:41 DrunkDwarf-: is one of your systems on a wireless network, or on the other side of a router/firewall? Jul 11 23:48:17 well, yes Jul 11 23:48:28 ive got a BT Homehub (it was free, works alright) Jul 11 23:48:49 and the Linux box i was using to try the commands, is a Laptop connected via wireless Jul 11 23:49:09 the windows box is a pc connected via ethernet, but the windows util doesn't work for me Jul 11 23:50:52 the slug is attached to the same BT Homehub via ethernet Jul 11 23:53:00 Don't flash anything over wireless; its a sure recipe for disaster. Specifically upslug2 is very sensitive to wireless issues, so try again with the linux box on the wired network this time. Jul 11 23:58:35 ill brb, going to switch laptop over to using ethernet cable Jul 12 00:03:53 w00t, ok, now on ethernet, ran the same command, and now its saying "erasing" with a progress bar Jul 12 00:05:25 nice, its saying its done, and rebooting Jul 12 00:05:29 thank you dude **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Jul 12 02:59:56 2008
