**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon Nov 16 02:59:56 2009 Nov 16 19:41:11 Hi guys is there an nslu2 guru in the room? Nov 16 19:41:19 i got a major problem Nov 16 19:42:45 After configurating port settings with telnet my webinterfase is not reachable cant enable telnet Nov 16 19:42:49 with unslung Nov 16 19:44:07 cant find any docs to recover from this problem Nov 16 19:47:06 when i do a portscan on the nslu2 the ports 21, 139 and 445 are the only open ones Nov 16 19:49:20 You failed to follow the very strong recommendations to install openssh, then? Nov 16 19:50:12 yep Nov 16 19:51:08 pretty much a goner then. You can try to boot the device up without external storage, telnet in, hot-plug the disk, and then edit the files on disk directly to reset the port settings. Nov 16 19:51:10 why can the linksys utility change the ip settings but cant we login the the device when telnet is not enabled? Nov 16 19:51:44 that's what ssh is for. Nov 16 19:52:30 telnet is inherently a security issue; but openssh is too big to be pre-installed. So telnet is installed for the purpose of getting openssh installed, and at that point you should never use telnet again. Nov 16 19:56:37 thanks for the advise Nov 16 20:02:14 mwester, i there no .bin file what i can upgrade using ugutil thats preinstalled ssh Nov 16 20:08:24 ssh is too big to fit :( Nov 16 20:08:35 So you have to install it afterward. Nov 16 20:09:20 can i change the settings using redboot acces? Nov 16 20:09:29 What settings are those? Nov 16 20:10:55 my nslu2 dont load the webinterface / port anymore it doesnt matter what .bin file i upgrade unslung or the linksys .bin file Nov 16 20:11:14 i use Nov 16 20:12:43 after upgrade to the nslu2 the usb can only be accesed by linksys utility to setup the ip settings and ftp to reach an usb stick Nov 16 20:13:14 i dont have a clue how to recover with a telnet session Nov 16 20:13:37 im on it for 3 months Nov 16 20:14:08 Ah. Nov 16 20:14:25 You need to follow the Linksys instructions to reset it to factory defaults. Nov 16 20:14:59 Flash one of the Linksys firmwares, then let it boot up -- then follow the instructions they provide to reset the factory defaults. Nov 16 20:15:21 Reboot - and it should be running. Nov 16 20:15:38 At that point, you should be able to reach the linksys Web GUI on it. Nov 16 20:16:02 ok thanks i gonna try that Nov 16 20:16:26 If not, then you'll have to follow the instructions on the wiki to reset the sysconfig -- but do that only as a last resort, becuase if you type even a single digit wrong when you do that reset of the sysconfig partition, you will brick the unit permanently! Nov 16 20:18:42 the solution of linksys is to hold the reset button 10 seconds Nov 16 20:20:32 it gonna be the sysconfig docs i fear Nov 16 20:20:35 lol Nov 16 20:28:22 thanks mwester thats not to dificult can i send my nslu2 over when its becomes a brik lol Nov 16 21:11:35 mwester, the slug is up and running again! Nov 16 21:11:55 thank you verry mutch! **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue Nov 17 02:59:56 2009
