**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Oct 24 02:59:58 2010 Oct 24 10:31:55 Hello Oct 24 10:32:31 I would like to know if it is still safe to use SlugOS in a nslu2 for web-content hosting? Oct 24 10:32:59 I currently using debian, but i think it's a bit too heavy for what I need Oct 24 10:33:43 And SlugOS seems discontinued Oct 24 10:34:23 Else, does OpenWRT fits for a server usage? Oct 24 13:41:19 PPmarcel, SlugOS is not discontinued and is perfectly fine for web hosting (at least as well as one can expect with such a small CPU) Oct 24 13:57:31 mwester> you mean that even if the last firmware release have been released in march 2009, there are still security updates or developpement around it? Oct 24 14:45:23 PPmarcel, optware is maintained and is current. Oct 24 14:45:36 SlugOS is merely the low-level operating system. Oct 24 14:46:28 But if you want something that is constantly changing and bleeding edge, then you don't want anything that runs on the NSLU2, you'll be best off with an X86 box and something like Ubuntu or Fedora or Debian. Oct 24 14:52:02 mwester> yes i did that 2 years ago, with a eeebox and archlinux running on it.But today I want to use the nslu2 for hosting some particular contents. The challenge here is to use an embedded device such as the nslu2. But Debian is a bit heavy. I wanted to know if SlugOS could be a weakness in my network, for exemple by using old unsafe versions of softwares. Now if optware is still updated, I'm ok with that, it fits with waht i want. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Oct 25 02:59:57 2010
