Oct 14 03:40:00 on my regular debian box this would be through the mtdblk module which would emulate a mtd from /dev/sda Oct 14 03:40:33 a77ila: good question. dunno. Oct 14 03:42:02 but there is no such module on the slug (or is it already there with a /dev/mtdsomething) ? Oct 14 03:43:39 regular ext2/3/reiser will eat the flash pretty quick :( Oct 14 03:45:31 03rwhitby * 10debian/patches/installer-armeb.patch: Moved nslu2-specific jffs2 options to nslu2.cfg Oct 14 03:46:28 a77ila: jffs2 is no good on usb flash. usb flash usually has it's own wear-levelling Oct 14 03:46:45 just use ext3 and turn off atime Oct 14 03:55:41 will try Oct 14 03:55:59 but something very peculiar is happening Oct 14 03:56:25 if I do remount / -o remount, noatime the whole thing dies on me Oct 14 03:56:49 if I put it in fstab it won't even boot Oct 14 03:57:07 * a77ila scratches his head Oct 14 03:58:29 rwhitby-away: I'm not sure about wear-leveling but on the rwhitby-away: does any of the 'regular' rw fs's have compression ? Oct 14 04:03:15 dunno Oct 14 04:04:06 a77ila: be aware that mounting the fs would take *ages* Oct 14 04:06:42 NAiL: I know, but this is a 24/7 box, it's not supposed to boot/mount, like, ever (on the destop, 256 megs took ~10 minutes to boot, that's OK with me). Oct 14 04:07:55 afaik, jffs still doesn't support NAND flash thoug Oct 14 04:07:58 though Oct 14 04:11:40 I was talking all the time about jffs2, AFAIK it has NAND support Oct 14 04:12:11 or do you mean the actual openslug-kernel-jffs2 ? Oct 14 04:13:47 plain jffs (_not_ 2) is the one that has no NAND Oct 14 04:31:01 "The latest code, including preliminary support for NAND flash"... Oct 14 04:37:58 NAiL: IIRC I ran across it the Debian sarge kernel (2.6.8) Oct 14 04:39:27 2.6.11 most certainly has it (I used it with that one, not a Deb standard issue tho) Oct 14 08:41:12 03florian 07org.openembedded.dev * r8e8ea79d... 10/packages/gpe-bluetooth/gpe-bluetooth_0.46.bb: gpe-bluetooth: Add new release. Oct 14 12:15:33 ECHO! ....echo... ...echo... .... echo..... (bit silent here) :) Oct 14 13:35:36 Does anyone know what version of crond is used in unslung (and presumably also the linksys firmware). I'm trying to find what options should be supported in the crontab file. So far strings has revealed that it expects to find a mailer called /bin/mail but not much more. Oct 14 13:36:01 I'm downloading the Linksys source to see if it is there but it is taking a while Oct 14 13:46:00 AdamBaker: I would guess it's the one that comes with busybox Oct 14 13:49:52 hm, uNSLUng-5.5 -> -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13216 Jan 1 1970 /usr/sbin/crond Oct 14 13:50:16 which doesn't support -f option, what busybox crond should do Oct 14 13:54:17 strange, you have busybox all over your tools and waist space on a separate cron Oct 14 13:57:04 nope, only use busybox 0.6x which is delivered with Linksys FW/uNSLUng-5.5, dunno if there is the crond link supplied Oct 14 13:58:52 eh. provided Oct 14 14:00:24 yvasilev: busybox comes with the stock firmware. most experienced linux users using unslung install the full-blown tools instead of installing the busybox package Oct 14 14:00:53 AdamBaker: install the cron optware package, then put the stuff in /opt/etc/cron.d/... Oct 14 14:01:04 it's basically vixie cron I think Oct 14 14:11:20 dwery-away: please report that to jbowler so he can update upslug2 Oct 14 14:52:44 <[g2]> dwery-away yvasilev are you guys familiar with the PMU on the IXP42X ? It definitely isn't vixie cron despite the copyright message in the linksys source as many telltale strings are missing. It looks like I will need to install the cron ipkg to get a full featured cron. Oct 14 21:28:54 [g2]: not me Oct 14 21:47:07 rwhitby: it still may make sense to use busybox based daemons to save memory and freely use full versions of "run once" commands, but on the other hand changing to uClibc with full versions should give a greater memory savings than glibc + busybox (there is also an option of using uclibc + busybox ;-) ) Oct 14 21:48:10 yvasilev: nod **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Oct 15 02:59:56 2005
