Does anyone have a pointer to the l-a-k thread on this? Nov 17 16:39:35 I would like to test the most recent kernels I can get a hang of for IXP4xx, even real-time etc. Anyone tried real-time preempt on the ixp4xx yet? Nov 17 16:41:46 Not I. I'm still trying to figure out how to disable or at least increase the time before oom-killer goes nuts. My poor NSLU2 with a thumbdrive sometimes goes nuts when under a heavy I/O load. Best guess is that there's a timeout when trying to hit swap. Nov 17 17:11:10 joshin: you want it to push out dirty pages to disk earlier, so that more room remains available for memory allocations. Nov 17 17:11:37 joshin: I read something on the LKML about this heuristic and parameters. Nov 17 17:15:27 Possibly. I'll look at that. But really, my slugs should not be crashing when untarring a huge file or doing other I/O intensive stuff. Nov 17 17:15:40 * joshin grumbles about USB disks and flash devices. :) Nov 17 20:15:12 joshin: ping, see here: http://www.westnet.com/~gsmith/content/linux-pdflush.htm Nov 17 20:15:31 joshin: especially "Tuning Recommendations for write-heavy operations" **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sun Nov 18 02:59:56 2007
