May 24 18:08:13 how can i chanhe some setting of a compiled pkg? May 24 18:08:31 I need to have some pkg with some diffrent compile options May 24 18:08:49 Do i run the compile on the host? or should I do cross compile? May 24 18:09:17 In most cases, there is no need to do native compilation May 24 18:11:02 Reedy, so what do u think it is best May 24 18:11:09 I never did a cross compile May 24 18:11:16 usally I run X86 May 24 18:11:23 but this time i need to change something May 24 18:12:34 If you setup a cross compliation environment May 24 18:12:42 you should be able to just update the make file May 24 18:12:45 and compile for your own use May 24 18:13:00 I'm not usre about my skills May 24 18:13:11 it is hard? to build a cross tool chain? May 24 18:13:36 I very familer with C/C++ May 24 18:13:40 and ubuntu/debian May 24 18:13:46 but on a X86 platfrom May 24 18:13:55 http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware/AddAPackageToOptware should get you somewhere near May 24 18:13:56 not a ARM/FreeScale May 24 18:14:15 That's what cross compilation is -- you do all the work on the x86 host, but it creates binaries that run on the target. May 24 18:14:35 Ok, Thanks May 24 18:14:39 The wiki will help you get started. May 24 18:15:33 But, other than the build environment, most of it should be fairly familiar if you've done linux c/c++ May 24 18:15:33 I see the wiki, does the command there, after you full the code from the svn/git, will build you a full env with all the gcc/g++/cpp/bintils etc... May 24 18:15:51 so I can download some tar.gz and just do compile as usaual ? May 24 18:16:00 Sort of. May 24 18:16:20 mwester May 24 18:16:28 mwester: what do u mean sort of? May 24 18:16:40 Look at the examples provided for make files that will set the right flags when it invokes the package's makefile. May 24 18:17:18 OK, Thanks. One more issue - do any one of u know if there is a kerberos pkg ? May 24 18:18:17 Depending on the package authors, they may or may not have created a "cross-freindly" makefile, so sometimes changes or hacks are necessary to make it build. For example, if a makefile hardcodes "/usr/bin/cc" into the makefile, then that makefile will NEVER invoke your cross-compiler! So that has to be fixed. But many packages are written to use $(CC) instead, so all you have to do is set the various $(CC) and $(CFLAGS) vars to have the riht May 24 18:18:17 values. May 24 18:19:02 Once you download the optware dev environment, you can see if there is a makefile for the kerberos stuff you're interested in -- I'm not in a position right now to check (I'm at work, supposedly). May 24 18:20:54 I'm still waiting for my devel access :( May 24 18:21:09 blepsoaf, for more than a week? May 24 18:21:14 lol not at all May 24 18:21:40 I emailed all the stuff per the wiki on Friday - so not by any means has it been a long time May 24 18:21:48 sorry got disconected May 24 18:21:53 There's one person (at the moment) who handles that; and he too enjoys weekends. :) May 24 18:22:10 mwester, are u talking to me? May 24 18:22:25 Nope May 24 18:22:28 nope May 24 18:22:30 :-) May 24 18:22:44 There doesn't seem to be a kerberos pkg May 24 18:22:47 So one more issue: does any one can tell me where to get kerberos pkg? May 24 18:23:14 Going to have to make your own makefile for it I'd suspect May 24 18:23:16 mwester: I totally understand, and I'm just being annoying May 24 18:23:35 Reedy, could u please help ? May 24 18:23:39 I kind of lost May 24 18:23:49 Wiht? May 24 18:24:31 yes May 24 21:36:11 hi!
