**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed May 18 23:59:57 2005 May 19 07:57:47 ka6sox: Did not find the FTDI schematic at openjtag.net so far. Is it delayed ? May 19 08:04:24 yes...RL has intervened. May 19 08:04:50 and after realizing that I need more power than the FT chip can provide at 3.3v for the CPLD. May 19 08:04:58 so I'm adding a 50ma Regulator. May 19 08:05:40 it *should* be out tonight (my time) May 19 08:05:53 in time for you to have the weekend to play with it. May 19 08:06:12 great :-) May 19 08:06:33 you have gschem? May 19 08:06:35 and PCB? May 19 08:07:03 No. but I know were to find them. May 19 08:07:39 Did Xilinx OK the different Volatges on the IOBs ? May 19 08:08:13 no...in the 9536 there is only 1 IOB May 19 08:08:54 I see May 19 08:08:58 what I mean to say is that theere is only 1 bank May 19 08:09:02 and one connections May 19 08:09:35 but the inputs are 2.5-5.0v tolerant and the outputs can be OpenCollector so I can use that to make it work. May 19 08:10:16 Are You a HW engineer ? May 19 08:10:22 yes May 19 08:10:53 and I write VHDL for CPLD's and FPGA's daily. May 19 08:11:08 I call myself a "glue engineer" May 19 08:11:09 gret, Just asked, to know what terms I can use ... May 19 08:11:44 is the xilinx for voltage translation only ? May 19 08:11:54 the 9536 has more than enough resources for this job May 19 08:12:11 the xilinx is for 2 things: May 19 08:12:14 1) May 19 08:12:23 Voltage translation. May 19 08:12:25 2) May 19 08:12:40 to switch between different connectors May 19 08:12:52 there are 3 popular connectors May 19 08:13:02 1) Digilent 7pin straight May 19 08:13:23 2)Xilinx IV/V dual row May 19 08:13:34 3) flying leads. May 19 08:14:02 so I'm trying to accomodate all three systems. May 19 08:14:47 OK, I wait for the schematic/pcb. May 19 08:15:06 Are the PCB tools easy to install ? May 19 08:15:10 yes May 19 08:15:21 just install geda and you will get it all. May 19 08:15:26 If not: maybe You can generate a postscript or pdf ? May 19 08:15:31 (geda is the metapackage) May 19 08:15:43 what distro are you using? May 19 08:16:10 SUSE 9.2 or Knoppix Live CD May 19 08:16:55 * ka6sox forgets what packaging scheme that Suse uses.... May 19 08:17:07 rpm? May 19 08:18:38 I guess I'll put up PDF's I know how to do that. May 19 08:20:00 sorry, my line dropped May 19 08:20:16 they use YAST as default tool May 19 08:20:27 rpm is included as well May 19 08:22:39 normally YAST can install rpm. May 19 08:28:53 okay then install the geda rpm May 19 08:29:01 that should install it all May 19 08:30:14 <[g2]> what SW do you need to reference the design ? May 19 08:31:29 * [g2] mastered a custom Knoppix distro yesterday that can build Unslung and Openslug May 19 08:31:47 <[g2]> it would make sense to include the tools for OpenJTAG if they weren't too big May 19 08:32:33 <[g2]> looks like geda's in apt May 19 08:40:00 geda... May 19 08:40:05 <[g2]> hey there's a USB to JTAG (gTAG) in the geda examples May 19 08:40:06 the suite including PCB May 19 08:40:15 yes... May 19 08:40:18 saw that. May 19 08:41:05 [g2] could you add geda and PCB to your remastered Knoppix? May 19 08:41:32 <[g2]> I think so May 19 08:41:41 <[g2]> I need to add SVN May 19 08:42:23 <[g2]> does geda do gerber ? May 19 08:42:32 <[g2]> or should I load gerbv May 19 08:43:32 <[g2]> which is the project file I should load for the gTAG example ? May 19 08:46:10 PCB does gerber May 19 08:48:07 you would need to get a .pcb file...and load it into PCB May 19 08:48:15 or a .sch file is for gschem. May 19 08:51:10 gotta head into work..bbi 30mins May 19 09:31:06 ep1220, in the office now. **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Thu May 19 10:38:49 2005 May 19 13:37:24 Uh.... May 19 13:38:30 geda isnt a program proper. Geda is the name of a set of programs that was a extension of "gaf" gschem and friends. So if you install the geda set, you will get gerbv whether you want it or not. May 19 13:40:20 and if someone can figure outo how to make geda compile under Mandrake/mandriva it would make my life so much easier. May 19 13:40:34 right now I have to use colinux under windows to use pcb/gschem. its quite a pain. May 19 13:50:53 hiya dyoung May 19 13:58:45 <[g2]> geda's installed on knoppix May 19 14:00:43 [g2] thanks May 19 14:01:37 <[g2]> my knoppix system :) May 19 14:01:53 <[g2]> and will be on Sluggix if it works and isn't too big May 19 14:20:48 [g2]: btw, virtually everyone in elinux does embedded dev May 19 14:21:33 <[g2]> prpplague, I was asking about embedded hw dev May 19 14:21:42 <[g2]> prpplague, thx May 19 14:22:30 [g2]: ahh, most of the ppl in elinux are software/OS May 19 14:22:56 [g2]: hehe, we are mostly homebrew ppl as far as hardware goes May 19 14:23:25 [g2]: t0mW is the only one that actually does hardware dev **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu May 19 23:59:56 2005
