**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Mar 16 02:59:56 2010 Mar 16 03:34:25 Well, THAT was kinda fun... Mar 16 03:34:43 Android on a FreeRunner. Probably not the best idea. Mar 16 03:36:59 About the most appealing distros I can find involve Qt, and sadly that's a dead project now. Mar 16 11:22:58 morning Mar 16 16:07:49 hey. Im looking for the best stable release of SHR. I heard it might be a testing version, but any recommendations? Mar 16 16:08:43 yeah its still in testing Mar 16 16:09:07 but give it a try Mar 16 16:11:56 Ddorda: use old testing image and dont upgrade for best stability Mar 16 16:13:28 JaMa: of course I will, but the image Im using atm is about 3 months old, I need to get something better Mar 16 16:15:07 current shr-t has few issues (more are already resolved in shr-u and spaetz is merging those fixes back to shr-t atm) Mar 16 16:15:36 so it's not best time to upgrade, if you cannot resolve those issues yourself Mar 16 16:18:03 JaMa: but is there any good image to download that is stable enough? Mar 16 16:18:31 and that I can add contacts? (not like what I have installed atm ;)) Mar 16 19:37:08 Stskeeps: It is possible - though annoying- to fix with a conventional iron Mar 16 19:37:30 i'd be worried about the lcd being under it Mar 16 19:37:57 itshouldn't damage the LCD in any way. Mar 16 19:38:10 (i'm an amateur, fwiwi) Mar 16 19:38:20 Stskeeps: could you repost the question please? Mar 16 19:38:50 DocScrutinizer: http://www.daimi.au.dk/~cvm/20100316_003.jpg , http://www.daimi.au.dk/~cvm/20100316_002.jpg - fixable/not fixable with solder? Mar 16 19:39:52 Stskeeps: yes, to me it looks like you should be able to fix it. You'll need a small iron for the contacts, and a rather strong one for the mechanical latches Mar 16 19:41:12 Stskeeps: I recommend to fixate the receptacle with a really good glue (acrylic or epoxy) - don't contaminate the soldering pads though while doing so Mar 16 19:41:15 DocScrutinizer, would it be possible to just align the connector on the pcb and heat it up to melt whatever solder is there or would that likely be too much heat stress on the components? Mar 16 19:41:35 DocScrutinizer: tomaszd'd probably be the guy fixing it/getting the broken freerunner :P Mar 16 19:41:56 hmm, glue is also a good idea Mar 16 19:41:59 TomaszD: I'm not sure about the reflux properties of the USB receptacle Mar 16 19:42:36 I would go for epoxy in this case I guess, should work if placed strategically Mar 16 19:49:52 Stskeeps: of course if you'd want to go for hot air jet, I could dig up the datasheet of the receptacle and check how much heat is allowed for which period of time Mar 16 19:50:57 Stskeeps: but honestly I think it's (even more) easily fixable with good old iron Mar 16 19:55:41 Stskeeps: I'd recommend you apply a small amount of solder to the 9 pads of the receptacle. Then apply a good non-corrosive resin activated flux to the pad on PCB and to the receptacle. Then place and adjust(!! in case?) the receptacle and simply heat the solder points with really hot iron until the joint is good Mar 16 23:06:49 I'm confused. I'm installing SHR. Do I add kernel modules and if I do, at what point? Mar 17 00:13:23 does GSM require correct time to reg with network? Mar 17 00:13:46 no Mar 17 00:13:47 trying to get timezone correct and my gsm has stopped connecting Mar 17 00:20:17 can you think of anything to do with time that would stop the gsm connecting Mar 17 00:21:17 cos its definitly dead now. shr Phone settings says gsm is off and the on/off slider wont turn on Mar 17 00:57:32 ok thats very odd. i tried restarting many times, and removing the battery etc. but gsm only started working again after i booted the older OS on the nand and got gsm to connect in that first, then restarted and booted main os back up again Mar 17 01:14:48 random Mar 17 01:15:28 time is completely unrelated to GSM registration (I'd hope so :-P) Mar 17 01:16:37 unless some silly conversion routine for log timestamps segfaults on your bogus system time Mar 17 01:17:13 whole GSM is pretty much time agnostic Mar 17 01:22:34 well, there is _one_ detail that may actually barf chunks: the modem has a RTC to timestamp SMS. This RTC has no backup battery so needs to be set each time the modem is initialized. I seem to remember reports about reading the RTC via AT cmd interface sometimes doesn't behave and returns a mangled time value/format Mar 17 01:23:19 mickey|away: could there be segfaults on modem RTC readout, in framework ? Mar 17 01:24:15 (not to say I even knew if there's any RTC readout or even init at all) **** ENDING LOGGING AT Wed Mar 17 02:59:57 2010
