Feb 17 09:26:00 <russell--> is it possible for udhcpc to request an offer without actually configuring the interface with the information from the offer?  i've got a remote device that i set up with a static ip to work around a broken dhcp offer. i'd like to test the dhcp offer without breaking the network.

Feb 17 09:33:33 <russell--> Borromini: because the static ip was a kludge, the ISP just changed hands and i'm assuming they are going to break the static ip eventually, maybe sooner rather than later.
Feb 17 09:35:32 <russell--> the original broken dhcp lease as the network address or maybe the broadcast address, it was probably fixed, but i'd like to test.  i'm considering setting up a timer for a reboot, then trying the manual udhcpc and if it breaks,  the reboot will bring back the static ip address.
