**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Sep 20 02:59:56 2011 Sep 20 03:00:11 ghostinator: ok, thanks, I guess I didn't break it then, something else must be preventing it from going into suspend. Sep 20 03:00:29 which admittedly is rather dumb for a developer build. Sep 20 03:01:14 bet $10 it'll ask me to reboot too Sep 20 03:01:17 yep. Sep 20 03:01:28 scoutcamper I did it no change to pge Sep 20 03:01:35 hell, if I wanted to reboot I could just reboot into 7 and use novaterm there Sep 20 03:01:39 ah well, brb Sep 20 03:02:23 buckhr, hrm, i see alpha and beta feed stuff on that page, nothing specific to kernel feeds Sep 20 03:04:12 the kernels are listed in the beta feeds Sep 20 03:04:41 ok Sep 20 03:04:56 scoutcamper: didn't read the page carefully enough? ;) Sep 20 03:05:03 so, specifically which kernel are you installing Sep 20 03:05:14 what about reposting them lol Sep 20 03:05:41 rwhitby, the original page he linked to with the #Kernel_testing_feeds is from the old page Sep 20 03:05:55 tried installing 2 of them: warthogkernal and f4 phantom Sep 20 03:06:11 scoutcamper: then the instructions which are linking to that are obsolete Sep 20 03:06:19 indeed Sep 20 03:06:37 buckhr_, ok, and you get the same error on both? Sep 20 03:06:43 si Sep 20 03:06:49 odd Sep 20 03:07:00 * rwhitby hasn't seen the pastebin of the ipkg log yet ... Sep 20 03:07:13 what rwhitby said ;) Sep 20 03:07:16 i have uberkernal installed currently could that be causing problems Sep 20 03:07:23 yes Sep 20 03:07:26 ah Sep 20 03:07:44 can i just change kernel profiles or do i need to uninstalled uberkernel completely? Sep 20 03:07:47 * rwhitby still hasn't seen the pastebin of the ipkg log yet ... Sep 20 03:08:10 ugh rwhitby its not connected to pc Sep 20 03:08:30 * scoutcamper defers to rwhitby as he has done much more with TP kernels than i Sep 20 03:08:58 buckhr_: well, when you're connected again, you can resume alpha or beta testing those kernels. Sep 20 03:11:33 so that was it Sep 20 03:11:34 well, uninstalled uberkernel and the errors went away Sep 20 03:11:44 only now uberkernel isnt listed in preware Sep 20 03:11:53 which is strange considering i got it from preware Sep 20 03:12:04 how did you uninstall it? Sep 20 03:12:22 just through the "x" button Sep 20 03:12:38 changed profiles to original kernel first, then uninstalled Sep 20 03:12:43 anything you install through Preware you should also uninstall through Preware Sep 20 03:13:03 you've gone behind Preware's back, so you can't expect it to know what has happened until you restart Preware Sep 20 03:13:59 damn i did preware dirty Sep 20 03:14:32 thanks for the advice, noted for sure Sep 20 03:14:32 or just update feeds will also work Sep 20 03:16:52 hmm... warthog kernel profile did not show in govnah Sep 20 03:16:54 no errors though Sep 20 03:17:52 uninstalling and trying f4 phantom Sep 20 03:19:09 hmm Sep 20 03:19:17 novacomd crashed when I rebooted my touchpad with it plugged in Sep 20 03:19:18 interesting Sep 20 03:19:24 but I got the beta feeds enabled and working. Sep 20 03:19:42 always reinstall the stock palm kernel then reboot, then install whatever kernel you want. Keeps the transition nice and clean.. What i reccomend atleast Sep 20 03:20:45 great point. when i uninstalled and rebooted, the kernel icons were correct again, so i am trying the warthog again with free reboot Sep 20 03:20:50 fresh* reboot Sep 20 03:22:56 hmm still no warthog listed in kernel profiles, but the kernel itself seems to have installed properly Sep 20 03:23:57 for profile, you create them manually on the TP Sep 20 03:24:14 uberkernel automatically showed up after install though Sep 20 03:24:15 as long as it shows warthog and the version number next to where it shows govnah it's installed Sep 20 03:24:32 uber does for some reason, warthog and f15C and f4 don't Sep 20 03:24:41 not atleast between the billions of times i installed them to benchmark them Sep 20 03:25:04 how do i know what settings to set them to Sep 20 03:25:20 what values to set the settings to rather Sep 20 03:26:32 Thats where the fun of beta and alpha kernels come into play. With warthog your limited to 1.728 which most touchpads can run.. Sep 20 03:27:04 pick the cpu govner you want.. performance keeps the cpu at whatever speed you select, i use ondemand with a 0.05 poll time Sep 20 03:27:15 really just play with them or search the pre central forums for combo's that work for others Sep 20 03:27:32 ok cool thanks Sep 20 03:27:40 big thanks to all! Sep 20 03:29:42 buckhr_: have fun, and keep the doctor handy. Sep 20 03:30:39 where can i get the webos doctor? Sep 20 03:31:35 buckhr_: you're using alpha and beta feeds but don't know how to get the doctor? Sep 20 03:31:37 http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Webos_Doctor_Versions Sep 20 03:31:53 you should re read EVERYTHing at http://testing.preware.org Sep 20 03:32:08 buckhr_: what were you expecting to do when an experimental kernel wiped your device and made it unbootable? Sep 20 03:32:21 figure it out then Sep 20 03:32:24 lol Sep 20 03:32:36 hmm - not a good strategy, sir. Sep 20 03:32:52 do i need to have something installed on the tp prior to bricking it? Sep 20 03:33:10 not that i WANT to brick it, but clearly its a possibility Sep 20 03:33:33 bricking is not a possibility. wiping it and making it unbootable are. Sep 20 03:35:09 ok, do i need to have anything on installed on the device prior to wiping it and making it unbootable to be able to fix it with webos doctor Sep 20 03:35:58 no, that thing can be done and the doc will fix it. But try to run it from a command line or terminal so your not flying blind incase it has issues (very rare) Sep 20 03:45:34 (not so rare, I see many per week) Sep 20 03:47:42 rwhitby: sounds like you could use moboot on the pre (jcsullins gave it a name) Sep 20 03:48:16 tmzt: no, user error, not doctor error. Sep 20 03:48:36 the users who have doctor problems would have more problems running a moboot :) Sep 20 03:48:54 sure, but it gives a fallback if the installed kernel fails assuming we do what you say Sep 20 03:49:24 that's true though Sep 20 03:49:30 tmzt: you're not touching bootie, right? so normal doctor recovery works. Sep 20 03:49:33 why are these kernels becoming unbootable Sep 20 03:50:00 oh, people installing a fixed 1.9GHz alpha testing kernel on a wimpy touchpad Sep 20 03:50:08 lol, I love chromium devs Sep 20 03:50:08 rwhitby: public instructions will not touch bootie, we will probably have that ability but it will require the person know what they're doing to isntall it (it also requires a header on p8 apparently) Sep 20 03:50:15 " Sep 20 03:50:16 Disables code for making sure window to attach to is visible on Sep 20 03:50:16 win8. This is temporary until I find a better way to go about this." Sep 20 03:50:25 and then the very next comment it's marked fixed. Sep 20 03:50:33 it's not fixed, it's a workaround Sep 20 03:50:33 lol Sep 20 03:52:54 1.9ghz just makes mt TP Reboot back to default :D trust me i've tried plenty of times, except that one time i froze my tp Sep 20 04:30:04 hello all Sep 20 04:30:18 I have a weird problem Sep 20 04:30:36 supposedly, I have 2 kernels installed at the same time Sep 20 04:32:43 any ideas what to do? Sep 20 04:39:44 reinstall palm default, reboot and go from there Sep 20 04:39:47 it'll clear that up Sep 20 04:47:35 http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh274/RobertR_93/?action=view¤t=photos-temp-0jpg-28.jpg Sep 20 04:47:52 preware dosent show palm default kernel Sep 20 04:47:57 so I can't reinstall it Sep 20 04:48:25 and uberkernel has errors when installing. says kernel is not stock Sep 20 04:50:12 fudge_palm: did you use Preware to install and uninstall those kernels? Sep 20 04:50:30 h Sep 20 04:50:35 yea. I did Sep 20 04:50:54 hmm Sep 20 04:50:56 so you had uberkernel installed, and then you installed the recovery kernel? Sep 20 04:51:37 nope, I tried installing uberkernel and then it said something about the current kernel not being stock or something Sep 20 04:51:42 I then rebooted the phone Sep 20 04:52:01 and saw that the uberkernel icon is in my launcher Sep 20 04:52:30 yeah, that can happen Sep 20 04:52:32 then I had attempted to reinstall the stock kernel, it went thru successfully Sep 20 04:52:38 yep Sep 20 04:52:45 Did you remove the already installed kernels first? Sep 20 04:52:53 and now I see 2 kernel icons Sep 20 04:52:58 (at that point you actually only have the stock kernel installed) Sep 20 04:53:17 the uberkernel package is installed, but the postinst failed, so the kernel is not actually installed into the rootfs Sep 20 04:53:32 ah Sep 20 04:53:55 opt-click on both to delete, do not reboot, start Preware, install stock kernel, reboot. Sep 20 04:54:22 or start preware, uninstall both from preware (without rebooting), then reinstall stock Sep 20 04:54:35 Is it possible to jailbreak the touchpad? Sep 20 04:54:37 ok. lemme try Sep 20 04:54:41 -_- Sep 20 04:55:03 LarrySteeze: "jailbreaking" does not make sense in the context of a webOS device Sep 20 04:55:13 rwhitby: I know...I was venting, sorry Sep 20 04:55:27 I came back to a PM asking me that Sep 20 04:55:30 oh, quotes would help the understanding in that case :) Sep 20 04:56:12 preware only reports one kernel (stock) installed, I removed it anyway Sep 20 04:56:27 rwhitby: how about this one then Sep 20 04:56:38 "I don't see a folder called root. What the heck are you talking about?" Sep 20 04:57:11 LarrySteeze: I presume you've just pointed the person to http://bit.ly/phd-ac ... Sep 20 04:57:19 I guess what else are father-in-laws for? Sep 20 04:57:40 rwhitby: ever since I memorized the link, I've pimped it like snoop dogg pimps rhymes Sep 20 04:58:18 lol Sep 20 04:59:12 Busta Rhymes Sep 20 04:59:36 I also got asked "if I get android on my TP, will I still be able to use preware?" Sep 20 04:59:59 my answer was obviously: Of course! As long as you use it within WebOS Sep 20 05:00:31 Sorry. I'm usually not nancy negative. Sep 20 05:00:41 That is an odd question to ask Sep 20 05:01:05 LarrySteeze: I've worked with both Android on TouchPad projects to ensure a dual-boot solution Sep 20 05:01:34 Saij_: The strange questions come directly to my PM box...I have no idea why. Especially since I've been quiet the last few days Sep 20 05:01:43 rwhitby: which is why my answer was worded the way it was Sep 20 05:02:09 rwhitby: are you going to be at SCALE by chance? Sep 20 05:02:28 unlikely, unless it corresponds with a business trip Sep 20 05:02:37 gotcha Sep 20 05:06:36 Whoa, whoops. Didn't mean to spam my nickserv queries here, apologies Sep 20 05:06:44 this IRC stuff, I'm only about 20 years behind the curve on this lol Sep 20 05:07:37 You didn't. Sep 20 05:07:46 hurrah :D Sep 20 05:16:09 Saij: you were pestering nickserv, eh? Sep 20 05:16:38 yeah, a bit. the Freenode greet on #reactos was telling me to register on nickserv Sep 20 05:17:28 alrigh Sep 20 05:17:29 t Sep 20 05:17:40 It's past 1 Am and time for me to hit the bed Sep 20 05:17:43 Yeah, just trying to learn this stuff and get it sorted Sep 20 05:17:49 Night then, fellow east coaster Sep 20 05:18:26 tomorrow, I install a new server then reassemble all of the phones on my desk. It shall be a good day. Sep 20 05:18:38 Sounds like good fun Sep 20 05:18:42 hardware hacking? Sep 20 05:19:03 couple cases of hacking...couple cases of repair Sep 20 05:19:11 one of which has been a failed repair as of yet Sep 20 05:19:17 Ah, that is tough Sep 20 05:19:19 stupid veer Sep 20 05:19:23 I'm debating attacking my Pixi+ Sep 20 05:19:32 Half my keyboard backlight is out of service Sep 20 05:19:38 minor annoyance, but whatever Sep 20 05:19:43 just replace it at this point Sep 20 05:20:00 Yeah, probably best. I have a pre2 but I'm not fond of webos 2.x in many regards Sep 20 05:20:00 AT&T or VZW> Sep 20 05:20:04 AT&T one Sep 20 05:20:10 pre2 is unlocked GSM Sep 20 05:20:17 you can get the pre 2 or veer Sep 20 05:20:36 Veer I've been trying to get, Pre2 is nice but I didn't like some webos 2.x behaviors Sep 20 05:20:40 plus it is gigantic Sep 20 05:20:55 You can't have been trying THAT hard Sep 20 05:21:05 My limit is 50$ :P Sep 20 05:21:20 you won't find it for 50 Sep 20 05:21:28 but you may find it for $5 more Sep 20 05:21:31 That is the sensation I'm getting Sep 20 05:21:32 really? Sep 20 05:21:38 Hm, maybe it is worth it then Sep 20 05:24:18 http://forums.precentral.net/webos-patches/295028-webos-2-x-3-x-behavior-questions.html Sep 20 05:24:22 This is why I hate webOS 2.x and 3.x Sep 20 05:24:28 Stupid maybe, but I got so used to 1.x Sep 20 07:14:15 hi Sep 20 07:17:05 so what about the prject to getting x direct on the webos desk_ Sep 20 07:20:15 technikfreak45, what does that mean? Sep 20 07:24:12 i thougt that vnc could directlz start within webos Sep 20 07:24:18 without starting chroot ect... Sep 20 07:25:13 gah perl Sep 20 07:27:41 with perl__ Sep 20 07:33:48 mh Sep 20 07:34:43 technikfreak45, it already does Sep 20 07:34:55 really Sep 20 07:35:12 the chroot is necessary as there is only 1 X application that is native. Sep 20 07:35:12 is there a guide on the wiki Sep 20 07:35:16 (sdl) Sep 20 07:35:24 and thats xterm. Sep 20 07:35:29 ah Sep 20 07:35:37 and from that i sart vnc yes Sep 20 07:35:37 the rest get their bits from the chroots. Sep 20 07:35:55 but i could not start it within the app dek from webos Sep 20 07:36:13 we are getting to where you can do that... Sep 20 07:36:35 soon now you will have xapps in individual cards called with 1 click Sep 20 07:37:07 takes time to move that direction Sep 20 07:40:10 okay back to alpha breaking...lessee if I can get the shim to build. Sep 20 07:41:17 then publish an xapp and test Sep 20 07:44:11 Oh cool Sep 20 07:47:01 Just FYI i really like that you are working on more xAps Sep 20 07:48:49 * RichT23 thinks X on WebOS is the way forward Sep 20 07:50:09 RichT23, for those things that we don't have a native app for and are not likely to in the near future I agree. Sep 20 07:50:15 but native is still better. Sep 20 07:50:46 yes, but there are lots of xaps already Sep 20 07:51:18 true, but not all work well on the Touchpad and other devices. Sep 20 07:51:19 how is the performance? Sep 20 07:51:30 I don't notice any issues on the 3 I use. Sep 20 07:51:48 chromium browser, Xchat and libreoffice. Sep 20 07:51:50 what are you using? Sep 20 07:51:56 ;) Sep 20 07:52:40 did i nosie corectly that these will / are in the alpha testing feed? Sep 20 07:52:48 will be Sep 20 07:53:02 most cool Sep 20 07:53:07 right now I'm just working on getting the shims into the chroots then I can publish the apps. Sep 20 07:54:03 so are you just having to compile the apps "localy" Sep 20 07:54:10 no Sep 20 07:54:32 How do you get them to work then? Sep 20 07:54:41 standard binarys? Sep 20 07:54:54 since they are chroot apps I created a shim to manage installation and removal of the apps inside the chroot using the normal methods for that chroot. Sep 20 07:55:14 whats a shim? Sep 20 07:55:47 and do they then just run in the Xserver app? Sep 20 07:56:05 they are called by xecutah and then attached to a x-serer Sep 20 07:56:09 x-server Sep 20 07:56:22 cool Sep 20 07:56:58 eventually I hope we can just click the icon and get it to come up. Sep 20 07:57:07 but not yet. Sep 20 07:57:44 the shim allow me to not care what method the chroot uses for installation and create a standard post-inst. Sep 20 07:58:10 so I don't care if its emerge, apt-get, yum or whatever. Sep 20 08:00:34 arr Sep 20 08:00:56 too late...unless you are in Hawaii Sep 20 08:04:19 cp ${APPDIR}/usr/sbin/Xapps.sh /media/ext3fs/${NAME}/usr/sbin/ Sep 20 08:04:49 any chance you would know which patch it was i had on my pixi that let me change options on the launcher menus... options like how wide in icons and if it had a title etc? Sep 20 08:05:08 i had it on the pixi but can not find it now i have the veer Sep 20 08:05:09 * ka6sox-away knows little if anything about patchse. Sep 20 08:05:20 i noted quite a few have been moved around Sep 20 08:05:31 to use the "advanced framewark" Sep 20 08:05:40 other than he dreads everytime he hears the patch portal is "hung up" or "stuck" Sep 20 08:05:50 hehe =) Sep 20 08:06:27 ill keep trying then, its so anoying having that title at the top and only 3 icons wide Sep 20 08:06:47 maybe i should not be so lazzy and actully have a look at the patches Sep 20 08:07:00 normally I stay away from anything with a UI... Sep 20 08:07:16 but I guess I can't mess this up too bad. Sep 20 08:07:21 it works for me anyways. Sep 20 08:07:23 =) Sep 20 08:07:32 Oh yes well im a Unix guy Sep 20 08:08:03 but its hard to use a phone with out a gui Sep 20 08:08:06 sysV r3.5.1 Sep 20 08:08:28 though im liking the thorght of a cl phone Sep 20 08:09:22 I just want to type: cu 18885551212 Sep 20 08:09:25 ka6sox-away : but how i oculd start it with one click? Sep 20 08:09:47 technikfreak45, not yet. Sep 20 08:09:53 still a work in progress. Sep 20 08:09:57 ah ok Sep 20 08:10:07 and did you have some other stuff that will be usefull for audio technicans? Sep 20 08:10:14 maybe new things Sep 20 08:10:39 not there yet. Sep 20 08:10:59 I am too busy right now...1am and I should be in bed. Sep 20 08:11:10 but I wanted to push this out tonight Sep 20 08:11:16 then play tommorrow with it. Sep 20 08:12:30 RichT23, I rarely use the GUI on my TP... Sep 20 08:12:48 I use xterm/novaterm/and my 1 concession to the GUI...Tide... Sep 20 08:13:04 cool Sep 20 08:13:18 have a good sleep Sep 20 08:13:22 thanks Sep 20 08:13:37 I shall play tommorrow. for tonight I sleep. Sep 20 08:53:34 ka6sox-away: =) gnight Sep 20 10:47:20 slightly offtopic, but can anyone recommend a keyboard cover for the TouchPad? Sep 20 11:45:05 Is there any alternative screen lock apps maybe one with an onscreen unlock? Sep 20 13:08:10 woahhhhhhhh Sep 20 14:52:57 hi Sep 20 15:15:20 have a question on touchpad webos. I set up different alarm clocks. every time I restart luna or the TP I have to open up the alarm section in the clock application (applications->clock) to make the alarm come up in the top task bar. is there a way to make it working also if I do not open the alarm section in clock application? for me this seems to be a bug, isn't it? there are more things. also the notification for events doesn't really w Sep 20 15:54:56 the TP does draw power from a USB port when plugged in Sep 20 16:01:33 howdy folks! Sep 20 16:01:34 ajay_, hi Sep 20 16:01:45 so... why do you need to activate but not doctor? Sep 20 16:02:01 RagingMind: I don't have the doctor Sep 20 16:02:17 this a att/vzw pre3? Sep 20 16:02:21 might be Sep 20 16:02:52 if such things existed, i mean.. i think unicorns are more real Sep 20 16:03:02 we were all drooling looking at the ebay listings Sep 20 16:03:53 oh are there unicorns listed on ebay? Sep 20 16:04:03 I remember thinkgeek used to sell (do they still?) unicorn meat Sep 20 16:04:31 from tales of device activations abroad, i take it impostah works fine w/ a bypassed activation? Sep 20 16:05:01 ajay_, for att pre3s rwhitby has instructions on the wiki to make it *look* like a european pre3 for doctoring purposes Sep 20 16:05:53 if it's vzw... I suggesting trying to find another way first... cause the file system would still have nifty bits on it that you might need later if a doctor is gonna work... like the modem's firmware Sep 20 16:05:58 RagingMind: oh I didn't know there was a special doctoring procedure, interesting.. i wonder how that works w/ the modems Sep 20 16:06:18 damn if we didn't write similar things at the same time.. ;^) Sep 20 16:06:24 att and eu pres both use the same GSM modem/firmware Sep 20 16:06:36 RagingMind: even though the att uses an extra band? Sep 20 16:07:11 (850) i assume going to one's palm profile won't reveal a doctor download? Sep 20 16:07:16 if it's a cdma pre... you *might* be able to use a modified world doctor, but I really suggest trying to get that modem firmware and maybe other stuff (like device tokens) copied off first Sep 20 16:07:29 RagingMind: that sounds _messy_! Sep 20 16:08:10 not sure about pre3, but with older pres you can do a nifty thing called memboot, and meta-doctor has a mode to make a backup of stuff Sep 20 16:08:27 RagingMind: oooo.. that sounds HOT! Sep 20 16:09:09 ajay_, you'll wanna catch rwhitby when he's online. he might be interested in helping Sep 20 16:10:06 s/online/awake Sep 20 16:14:22 RagingMind: good call Sep 20 16:14:53 but in terms of impostah, that's how it's designed to work, skip first use (using any methodology?), load up impostah, and activate, correct? Sep 20 16:15:48 impostah activation is if you want to change what app cat you get Sep 20 16:16:24 I've used pres/pixis with a palm profile, but without activating on the cell network with just meta-doc Sep 20 16:16:36 or the palm-bypass tool Sep 20 16:16:47 RagingMind: well, that's one way to look at it.. yeah i guess i didn't mean activation, just logging into the palm profile Sep 20 16:17:19 you *may* need impostah to get paid app cat access, not sure about that though Sep 20 17:06:27 Any news on full screen patch for ubuntu chroot? Sep 20 17:07:01 emoose, what are you asking? Sep 20 17:07:02 emoose: oh yeah, was wondering yesterday why it wasn't full screen, i assume it was before it had (onscreen) kbd support.. Sep 20 17:07:22 emoose, thats a tweak you can set Sep 20 17:07:28 its support for the OSK Sep 20 17:07:45 since I use an external keyboard mine is full screen. Sep 20 17:08:01 I have mine set to full screen (on screen keyboard = none) and use my BT keyboard ;) Sep 20 17:08:52 same here Sep 20 17:09:03 emoose, its a tweaks setting Sep 20 17:09:32 I use the bt keyboard and it still has the black at the bottom. Sep 20 17:09:57 is that fatal? Sep 20 17:10:37 Sorta... Sep 20 17:10:43 emit, do you have tweaks installed? Sep 20 17:10:51 * emoose Sep 20 17:11:27 emoose, what is fatal about a black band (small as it is) across the bottom? Sep 20 17:11:27 Ya tweaks is installed Sep 20 17:11:40 it doesn't change automatically with the bt keyboard, you still have to use Tweaks to set how much space is set aside for the keyboard at the bottom Sep 20 17:11:58 It's nice to have it fullscreen because it's my main pc at school Sep 20 17:12:12 Will try restarting xserver now Sep 20 17:12:17 "nice to have it fullscreen" is not fatal. Sep 20 17:12:39 yeah... once xserver is open it's set one way till you restart it Sep 20 17:12:46 Thanks all Sep 20 17:12:50 Works great Sep 20 17:12:59 I thought it was something devs were working on... Sep 20 17:13:04 * emoose kicks himself Sep 20 17:13:04 it is... Sep 20 17:13:26 there's the beginnings of xrandr support (resize/rotate) Sep 20 17:13:35 emoose: I use it with no virt keyboard all the time Sep 20 17:13:45 ka6sox-away: it's more than a 'small black band' :) Sep 20 17:14:36 wow...I use it all the time and don't have an issue with it set for external keyboard. Sep 20 17:16:05 you can change the size of the virtual screen too Sep 20 17:24:57 hello Sep 20 17:25:42 anyone around? It seems the newest F15C doesnt play too well with my touchpad - sent it into a bootloop Sep 20 17:25:56 trying to memboot now. how long is that meant to take? Sep 20 17:27:09 might have to wait a while for one of the kernel people to drop in Sep 20 17:28:38 ok, cheers Sep 20 17:30:09 memboot it and remove f15c Sep 20 17:30:20 that should default it back Sep 20 17:30:38 then post in the thread your experience and recovery method. Sep 20 17:30:58 MikeSz, is this an alpha or Beta kernel? Sep 20 17:31:39 yeah, just worked it out Sep 20 17:31:43 ka6sox-away: ping Sep 20 17:31:49 thought memboot was taking ages but mistyped command Sep 20 17:32:05 membooted fine, just removing F15 now Sep 20 17:32:13 there is no palm Sep 20 17:32:39 it was an alpha version of F15 so to be expected, but the first time I've had to memboot Sep 20 17:33:23 good...post in the thread... Sep 20 17:33:58 will do, cheers Sep 20 17:47:52 f15c? fedora 15? :p Sep 20 17:57:07 F-15 like the plane :P Sep 20 17:59:38 SoulShadow: oo, do you have a fedora 15 chroot going? hot! ;^) Sep 20 18:01:22 RagingMind: fedora has a plane? wow Sep 20 18:01:22 ;^) Sep 20 18:01:24 ok, ttfn! Sep 20 18:01:24 I'm running Preware 1.8.3 on a TouchPad, I followed the instructions (and have already re-read them and re-done them several times) on testing.preware.org, and still no beta feeds. Sep 20 18:01:41 The only thing I haven't done is tried removing and re-installing Preware. Sep 20 18:02:08 Is this a known issue, is there a fix somewhere that I just can't find or am I just an idiot? Sep 20 18:02:50 To note, I did uninstall Preware the first time. Sep 20 18:03:26 Could it be a leftover file that's preventing it from updating properly? Sep 20 18:07:27 I wish I could help you, AtomicPlayboy, but I'll probably be going through the same thing tonight. Sep 20 18:09:33 Yep, still nothing. Sep 20 18:10:33 Oh Sep 20 18:10:39 Never mind, I am, in fact, an idiot. Sep 20 18:10:42 I see the problem now. Sep 20 18:12:00 what was it? Sep 20 18:12:39 ... Sep 20 18:12:49 Ah, okay Sep 20 18:13:15 Okay, I'm not an idiot, it was a bad uninstall. Sep 20 18:14:24 The ipkg process broke while it was being removed and the application was virtually untouched. Sep 20 18:14:52 I did a find, rm -rf and rebooted, re-installed Preware, and violin. Sep 20 18:25:23 hello Sep 20 18:28:00 anyone familiar with luna-send usage through an enyo app? I know how to use it via putty etc. the palm:// bit is commenting the rest of the line out though and thus breaking it Sep 20 18:28:57 you mean, a service request? Sep 20 18:29:01 through enyo? Sep 20 18:29:41 I think so. I'm new to programming on webos. its my first day Sep 20 18:30:31 {name: 'am', kind: 'PalmService', service: 'palm://com.palm.applicationManager/', method: 'open', onResponse: 'amResponse'}, Sep 20 18:32:28 ahh, cool. also just found it in the guide. I just didn't know this sort of thing is called a service. thanks :) Sep 20 18:32:54 np Sep 20 18:33:21 some things you can call with luna-send you can't call from enyo Sep 20 18:33:47 they could be on the private bus (only open to apps whos appid starts with com.palm.) Sep 20 18:34:10 if you're trying it and not getting a response you may try that Sep 20 18:34:28 ok Sep 20 18:39:30 what does method stand for in this case? Sep 20 18:40:08 its the method you're calling in the service Sep 20 18:40:33 hm Sep 20 18:40:48 like, exposed function Sep 20 18:40:48 I think I have properly read about that Sep 20 18:41:05 copy/paste me your luna-send line Sep 20 18:41:24 ok hold on Sep 20 18:42:01 luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.connectionmanager/configureNwProxies '{"action":"add","proxyInfo":{"proxyScope":"default","proxyServer":"10.22.0.1","proxyPort":8080}}' Sep 20 18:42:20 so you're calling com.palm.connectionmanager, thats the service Sep 20 18:42:26 where configureNwProxies is your method Sep 20 18:42:38 oh, that's nice of you... making palm a GUI for that Sep 20 18:42:52 yeah :D its needed Sep 20 18:43:00 the example i pasted doesnt send params Sep 20 18:43:05 it should be in the enyo docs though how to do it Sep 20 18:43:14 and the json object at the end (between teh {}s) is your parameters Sep 20 18:43:29 yeah, I'll figure that out Sep 20 18:44:04 I think :p Sep 20 18:44:49 great thing about enyo + service requests Sep 20 18:44:56 you can test on-pc in-browser Sep 20 18:45:10 and it tunels the service requests to the device over usb Sep 20 18:45:22 allowing you to use chromes debug tools Sep 20 18:45:53 does it? didn't know. I got the browser thing open but I didn't know it redirects as well. that's awesome Sep 20 18:46:08 yeah, it uses a little java applet to talk to the device over novacom Sep 20 18:46:37 I only need to open the index.html and that's it? Sep 20 18:46:48 yeah Sep 20 18:47:01 wow, that's really cool Sep 20 18:47:05 you need to make sure the path in index.html to the enyo source on your pc from the sdk is correct though Sep 20 18:47:24 yeah. I've done that Sep 20 18:47:29 and you need to start chrome with some special flags to access local files or something Sep 20 18:47:46 done that as well Sep 20 18:47:48 --allow-file-access-from-files Sep 20 18:47:50 then you're all set Sep 20 18:47:51 haha Sep 20 18:48:38 I just did it because I said its needed. I didn't know for what its needed though :p Sep 20 18:49:14 lol Sep 20 18:49:20 :) Sep 20 18:49:21 i dont think it had such a nice message before Sep 20 18:49:28 it just didn't work and you had to find out why/how to fix Sep 20 18:52:06 hehe yeah. what's so nice about that? :p Sep 20 19:33:50 SUCCESS! Sep 20 19:34:36 * LarrySteeze has fixed his veer and removd the microsim adapter without damaging his sim slot! Sep 20 19:35:10 LarrySteeze: nice :) Sep 20 19:35:14 how is the veer? Sep 20 19:36:16 I don't know Sep 20 19:36:26 I got the sim adapter stuck pretty much immediately Sep 20 19:36:31 doh! Sep 20 19:36:31 took a week's worth of surgery Sep 20 19:36:57 but now that I know what it took to fix it, if anyone else ever has an issue, I'm more than happy to help Sep 20 19:37:16 seems people forget what "ALPHA" and "BETA" means. Sep 20 19:37:25 * uNiXpSyChO is a little meowy right now Sep 20 19:37:34 uNiXpSyChO: heh. yeah. they often do Sep 20 19:38:05 uNiXpSyChO: Alpha means most stable, and beta means second most stable, right? Sep 20 19:38:16 wise ass ;-) Sep 20 19:38:18 what happened, did your kernel break govnah again? Sep 20 19:38:34 My kernels break everything... even bricks iPhones Sep 20 19:38:42 lol Sep 20 19:39:12 so THATS why my car didn't start this morning... Sep 20 19:41:28 oil: your car runs on an iphone? that's frightening Sep 20 19:41:58 * oil just wanted a reason to blame uNiXpSyChO for something Sep 20 19:42:00 :) Sep 20 19:42:36 booooooooo Sep 20 19:42:51 and Global Warming... Sep 20 19:43:24 we all know that Global Warming isn't true, the Scientific Community (tm) is still out on that Sep 20 19:43:25 dont forget hte economy Sep 20 19:46:00 maybe it was the most difficult part of this veer reassembly? reattaching the void sticker, which never had any of the letters come off Sep 20 19:46:33 how'd you get it off? Sep 20 19:47:09 peel Sep 20 19:47:40 well, so, the only palm void stick I've ever encountered is the one on top of the screws on my pre- Sep 20 19:47:52 given your answer, I assume the one on the veer is in a different place Sep 20 19:48:06 * summatusmentis needs to figure out if t-mobile is usable around here Sep 20 19:48:49 ah Sep 20 19:48:50 yes Sep 20 19:48:57 in the veer, it's an actual white sticker Sep 20 19:49:21 oh Sep 20 19:49:45 I'd really like to use a veer, but, you know, gsm Sep 20 19:51:11 * LarrySteeze is on sprint Sep 20 19:51:26 yeah, me too Sep 20 19:51:50 My veer is on a tour of Texas Sep 20 19:52:37 I'm seriously considering switching to a gsm carrier so I can use a veer, if they can convince me my service will be decent Sep 20 19:53:21 I like the veer for its size...just wish I could keep switching between a few Sep 20 19:53:25 phones easily Sep 20 19:53:32 I guess that means I'd like a gsm carrier more Sep 20 19:54:55 yep Sep 20 19:55:42 alright Sep 20 19:55:45 now for the testing Sep 20 19:55:48 * LarrySteeze powers up his veer Sep 20 19:55:50 My friend is on one of those employee everything for $30/mo plans Sep 20 19:56:01 He isnt going to switch anytime soon Sep 20 19:56:40 i thought you can't upgrade phones with that plan Sep 20 19:57:37 LarrySteeze, it looks like he can, he's looking at different phones to get when he can upgrade Sep 20 19:58:29 sweet, keyboard works Sep 20 19:58:30 Hi, is there a way to paste text from brwser to xterm in webos? Sep 20 19:59:58 wrea: I am too Sep 20 20:00:09 afriza: nope, not afaik Sep 20 20:00:19 I pay an extra $10/mo to use my pre- Sep 20 20:01:10 thanks dtzWill Sep 20 20:03:27 I'm having problem with browser patch that adds "Download Link" option Sep 20 20:03:36 Looks like expedited shipping isnt next day Sep 20 20:04:42 nothing seems to happen after I tap "Download Link" Sep 20 20:06:40 alright Sep 20 20:06:47 so this should be fun Sep 20 20:08:31 is will using --wifi-only on a meta-doctor build preclude the device from ever being used on a cell network again? Sep 20 20:08:47 or if I redoctored, would that make it available to be used on a cell network? Sep 20 20:09:56 so the verdict is out. It looks like the sim slot is damaged. Sep 20 20:17:24 Hi. i want to download mp4 file to my HP TP but it alwat Sep 20 20:17:56 it always got played instead of downloaded Sep 20 20:24:09 how do i remove an installed Feed in Preware? Sep 20 20:25:31 when I write a enyo app, that app works on webos 2.2 and 3.0.x? Sep 20 20:25:49 just swipe it Sep 20 20:27:53 copystring_ - ah hah, thanks... i was installing webos-internals feeds per tutorials at http://goo.gl/7Q5Ce to overclock my girlfriend's touchpad... but turns out one of those feeds is obsolete... where should i be going now? Sep 20 20:28:40 testing.preware.org is the new url I believe Sep 20 20:28:41 summatusmentis, you don't even have to redoctor to use it on a cell Sep 20 20:29:14 well... okay with verizon you don't have to redoctor, I just called their programming number after activating the phone and it just worked Sep 20 20:29:26 but yes you can redoctor and use on cell Sep 20 20:30:20 ebow, depends on how much you want to overclock Sep 20 20:30:44 the uberkernel (with 1.5GHz) is in the stable/normal kernel feed Sep 20 20:32:02 RagingMind: interesting. I've got a veer sitting at home that I might do wifi only on to play with Sep 20 20:32:09 ebow: http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Testing_Feeds Sep 20 20:32:17 ALL other directions are obselete Sep 20 20:32:18 but I may want to use it at some point in the future Sep 20 20:38:15 oilsworkn: so those instructions refer only to alpha and beta. there is nothing finished? Sep 20 20:39:07 it refers to alpha/beta _testing_ feeds Sep 20 20:39:16 once something moves out of the testing feeds, it's finished? Sep 20 20:39:45 not finished. Sep 20 20:39:51 it is usable. Sep 20 20:40:20 apps out of the testing feed can still be improved and updated Sep 20 20:40:54 well, now i've followed the instructions on that page to uninstall preware, and now i can no longer find preware in the webos quick install app!! Sep 20 20:41:37 Tibfib: well, sure, but there's no "out of beta" testig feeds Sep 20 20:41:50 once it's out of beta, it moves to the real feeds Sep 20 20:41:55 right Sep 20 20:41:57 where has it gone? Sep 20 20:42:05 but it's not finished ;) Sep 20 20:42:08 oh got it Sep 20 20:42:49 let me step back and ask this question: how do i overclock my touchpad? Sep 20 20:43:07 ebow: wait for a stable solution Sep 20 20:43:12 sounds like the testing feeds aren't for you Sep 20 20:43:58 although, is there a stable solution available? Sep 20 20:44:01 I don't even know Sep 20 20:44:07 Tibfib: no, i'm happy to do this, i'm just a newcomer to webos and want to be sure i'm not getting bogged down in a philosophical position that loses focus... Sep 20 20:44:37 Tidfib: so we're saying, the only way to get to overclocking is to follow the instructions on the testing wiki page? Sep 20 20:44:50 and that all other tutorials on the web are now obslete? Sep 20 20:44:52 I believe so. Sep 20 20:45:01 there MAY be a public kernel Sep 20 20:45:04 I don't know for sure. Sep 20 20:49:35 all the kernels are public Sep 20 20:50:21 the user simply needs to read the testing.preware.org URL carefully. Sep 20 20:50:29 uNiXpSyChO, I'm proud of the guy who had an issue, and instead of just whinning he went ahead and fixed it. Sep 20 20:50:44 did a memboot and recovered. Sep 20 20:50:54 true Sep 20 20:51:18 but there were still others that failed to read and started useless threads Sep 20 20:51:21 so he followed the rules and I just asked him to report what happened in the thread. Sep 20 20:51:34 and how he recovered. Sep 20 20:53:08 ok so i've followed the guidelines - accessed the device command line, issued the commands to make a org.webosinternals.preware directory and an enable-beta-feeds file in it... now i have reinstalled prewar, which has several more feeds available... Sep 20 20:53:37 enabled: webos-internals, webos-kernels, webos-patches, optware, precentral Sep 20 20:54:18 do i ned to enable/disable anything else? the next step, flipping back to my original tutorial, was to install UberKernel and Govnah Sep 20 20:56:05 the feeds with the "beta-" prefix are *not* enabled - should i enable these? Sep 20 20:57:39 eberon: read the directions Sep 20 20:57:43 it has all the information you need. Sep 20 20:57:57 wrong nick Tibfib Sep 20 20:58:00 hey man I know how to RTFM damn it Sep 20 20:58:04 dangit Sep 20 20:58:05 8) Sep 20 20:58:11 infobot: give eberon a cookie Sep 20 20:58:11 * infobot gives eberon a home-baked oatmeal raisin cookie to cheer him up. Sep 20 20:58:15 IT WORKED Sep 20 20:58:16 dang Sep 20 20:58:18 ! Sep 20 21:01:00 so, let me understand... Preware came with some feeds of its own, but the tutorial i followed also added the feeds prefixed with "beta-" ? Sep 20 21:01:34 "read the directions. it has all the information you need." Sep 20 21:04:02 Tidfib: help me understand whether, to overclock, what i should have enabled and disabled. currently, webos-internals, webos-kernels, webos-patches, optware and precentral are enabled, but those prefixed "beta-" are not Sep 20 21:06:39 haha. first, it's Tibfib. two, I'm not sure what it is called. just experiment Sep 20 21:06:44 it will take like 2 minutes to figure it out Sep 20 21:08:03 "read the directions. it has all the information you need" - if it did, i wouldn't need to ask. "just experiment" doesn't tally with "understanding the risks". Sep 20 21:08:28 pls, can somebody help with Mojo.Event.hold ? Sep 20 21:08:32 event Sep 20 21:09:16 in list widget Sep 20 21:11:32 ebow: the directions are not written to tell people how to overclock Sep 20 21:11:40 i know Sep 20 21:12:29 they're not written well Sep 20 21:13:09 they are, they're instructions for how to add testing feeds Sep 20 21:13:22 from there, you have to decide which feeds you want to get what you need Sep 20 21:13:51 panel: ask in #webos Sep 20 21:13:59 oh, thanks Sep 20 21:14:54 yes, so what is the difference between the feeds prefixed "beta-" and the ones prefixed "webos-"? Sep 20 21:16:30 ... Sep 20 21:24:26 ebow: well, were the ones prefixed "beta-" there before you setup beta feeds? Sep 20 21:25:37 summatusme...: no Sep 20 21:25:51 summatusmentis: he didn't read the full instructions. Sep 20 21:25:57 so... I think you have your answer Sep 20 22:16:32 I love how folks say "they're not written well", but never follow it up with "how can I help improve them" ... Sep 20 22:17:19 "those things you gave to me for free, and which you expect the community to be involved in improving, well they suck" Sep 20 22:18:42 "since you've already spent all your spare time developing the kernels and making sure that they don't damage my device, the least you could do is also do my research for me so that I don't have to read anything before using them" Sep 20 22:20:21 "I don't like your instructions, so instead of improving them in place, I'll just copy half of them to somewhere else, add some other stuff which will become obsolete and confusing when you update your instructions, and then attempt to take all the credit for my awesome set of instructions without even referencing back to the official page" Sep 20 22:20:57 Aren't end users awesome? Sep 20 22:20:58 Sep 20 22:22:27 * rwhitby also notes that in none of the backlog was rule #8 invoked ... Sep 20 22:23:12 "...and let me spread flames about how developers are alienating users" Sep 20 22:29:42 rwhitby: yeah I realized that once I read the rules for myself Sep 20 22:29:52 (I haven't had a need to re-enable the testing feeds yet) Sep 20 22:48:04 rwhitby: rofl Sep 20 22:49:52 I understand the downsides to doing so, but one way to make it easier to improve the documentation is to turn anonymous editing on in some fashion, even if the anonymous updates have to be approved Sep 20 22:51:22 or, to somehow make it clear that if one registers, one *will* be able to edit Sep 20 22:51:30 right now the pages just say "view source" Sep 20 22:52:19 dwc-: if someone doesn't know a wiki is editable, we don't want them editing the wiki Sep 20 22:52:20 dwc-: unfortunately, when anonymous editing is on, the wiki gets filled with spam. we've already tried that. Sep 20 22:52:30 Tibfib: I'm not sure that's the case. Sep 20 22:52:35 Tibfib: not all wikis are publicly editable..... Sep 20 22:52:38 heh. I take it back Sep 20 22:52:42 I forgot that you could disable it Sep 20 22:52:47 dwc-: if you have any ideas on how to make it more obvious on our wiki, we're all ears. Sep 20 22:53:13 not too familiar with wikimedia... but you should be able to change the 'view source' label on the tab back to 'edit' Sep 20 22:53:42 and then make the "you do not have permission" message a little friendlier so that it's clear that Users is any registered user Sep 20 22:54:04 or maybe turn it into an announcement on the top of each page? (I think I've seen something like that on wikipedia around donation drive time) Sep 20 22:54:46 rwhitby: are you talking about automated spam (bots) or random human spam? Sep 20 22:55:08 (i.e, do bots get past recaptcha these days?) Sep 20 22:56:55 dwc-: both Sep 20 22:58:16 well, recaptcha is just teaching bots to be better at passing it no? haha Sep 20 22:58:20 well, the human spam isn't much prevented by requiring an account Sep 20 23:13:37 hey rwhitby Sep 20 23:13:57 was just told by a friend of mine that the pre 3 has less usable ram than the pre 2 Sep 20 23:14:03 that is correct. Sep 20 23:14:13 380MB vs 512B. Sep 20 23:14:42 is this causing significan problems ? i'll be getting a pre 3 tomorrow Sep 20 23:15:14 wha, thats weird Sep 20 23:15:30 bhuey: more frequent TMC errors Sep 20 23:15:43 yeah I have yet to play with one intensively Sep 20 23:15:48 oil: single chip APPS&MODEM. Pre 3 modem steals from user RAM. Sep 20 23:15:53 just have a pre 2 with 2.1 here and it works well Sep 20 23:16:02 Pre 2 had separate modem chip with it's own RAM chip. Sep 20 23:16:09 ah Sep 20 23:16:16 is that part of the device spec ? ooh Sep 20 23:16:35 device specs always say user accessible RAM is less. Sep 20 23:16:37 modem chip uses 130mb of ram? Sep 20 23:17:07 well, something is using it. Linux is not seeing it. Sep 20 23:17:13 modem would be one of those things Sep 20 23:17:17 I'll ask around Sep 20 23:17:31 HP axing 525 WebOS developers in massive layoff: http://gear.lv/pQVkke Sep 20 23:17:50 we're yet to put in our TMC fix which causes swap to be used before calling TMC error. Sep 20 23:17:57 hardware product development, etc... Sep 20 23:18:07 software group is completely intact still Sep 20 23:18:18 ruumis: nothing new - HP announced this a month ago. Dunno why people think it's news. Sep 20 23:18:46 probably because it's actually happening immediately Sep 20 23:18:48 (of course when it finally happens it absolutely sucks for those involved) Sep 20 23:19:30 dwc-: yeah, but none of the reports actually contemplate the connection with the previous announcement, and all reports are trying to make it sound like the SW side is gone, which is not true. Sep 20 23:19:39 happening this week Sep 20 23:19:50 software side is completely intact Sep 20 23:20:00 no changes for the moment, it's bad reporting Sep 20 23:20:26 at least one more update is planned to be released for the touchpad, but everybody knows that, it's public knowledge Sep 20 23:22:44 as far as I know :) Sep 20 23:24:18 rwhitby: short attention span. they can't remember what happened last month, that was like 2 news cycles ago! Sep 20 23:25:33 still royally sucks Sep 21 01:10:13 is there any reason to Impostah a Pre 3 rather than activating it on AT&T in the US? Sep 21 01:11:38 Xuzz: http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Pre_3_Impersonation Sep 21 01:11:50 it's an EU Pre 3 Sep 21 01:11:57 (AZERTY via Palm Eurostore) Sep 21 01:12:16 oh, just activating in the US *should* be ok then, but I've never tried it myself. Sep 21 01:12:31 done! Sep 21 01:13:37 the Pre 3 keyboard is so much better than Pre 2... Sep 21 01:28:58 Xuzz: are you going to use it as your daily phone?
