**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon Dec 21 02:59:57 2009 Dec 21 03:06:29 Anyone style a radiobutton? Dec 21 03:27:00 Anyone here write custom css styles for any widgets Dec 21 03:27:26 What do you need? Dec 21 03:28:04 I've done lists, spinners, groups, drawers. Dec 21 03:28:20 I want to apply a custom style to a widget but not sure where to include it, for example can you include it in the widget model Dec 21 03:28:35 it doesnt take if you style the div and I have no good examples Dec 21 03:29:31 it all depends on the widget Dec 21 03:29:49 wll like lists I can style in the template Dec 21 03:30:02 however buttons and radiobutton widgets you cant Dec 21 03:30:10 as there is no template Dec 21 03:30:20 Radiobuttons can't be restyled Dec 21 03:30:28 ugh Dec 21 03:30:35 Thats what I was affraid of Dec 21 03:30:46 or was that checkboxes... Dec 21 03:30:46 ok thanks Dec 21 03:30:49 One of them. Dec 21 03:30:51 hmm Dec 21 03:31:00 I remember reading something about that the other night Dec 21 03:31:11 "Can't" is a pretty strong word, isn't it? I imagine if you figure out the appropriate class names, you could do all sorts of things to break their styling in creative ways. Dec 21 03:31:33 FoxFireX: One of them it explicitly says in the API that it can't be restyled. Dec 21 03:32:03 Huh. Interesting. (Bet you could still get something done, but it wouldn't be pretty.) Dec 21 03:32:30 Looks like I can deffine a class Dec 21 03:32:36 let me try that instead of a style tag Dec 21 03:32:39 attribute Dec 21 03:32:43 FoxFireX: got the mileage app done. er...doneish. Dec 21 03:33:00 Yeah? Look pretty good? Dec 21 03:33:08 looks blah. but works Dec 21 03:33:26 Well, that's the important bit. Dec 21 03:33:26 I'm close to the complete revamp of RadioTime Dec 21 03:33:53 I've pretty much decided that unless I end up getting way more on this than I expect, I'm probably going to stick with blah and hope the functionality carries the day. :) Dec 21 03:34:25 what are your expectations? Dec 21 03:34:27 * haeffb is all about style over substance. uh...wait... Dec 21 03:35:28 I'm not sure what they are, exactly. But I will couch that in the fact that I do have a day job which pays quite well, and would require selling quite a large number of apps to make up for in salary and benefits. Dec 21 03:35:39 So I'm more motivated by hobbyist/personal enjoyment. Dec 21 03:36:04 Which means I don't particularly want to shell out for a graphic designer, which would be the best way to spruce up the look. :) Dec 21 03:36:05 FoxFireX: You can always use my model Dec 21 03:36:05 I think FoxFireX has just described the average webOS developer Dec 21 03:36:34 "I have a day job, but this is a lot of fun." Dec 21 03:36:43 FoxFireX: i could probably get you time with a designer for a decent price Dec 21 03:36:45 I wouldn't mind making a few good skeletons and doing this webosdev full time Dec 21 03:36:57 Not sure if a model would help; I never took any life drawing classes. Dec 21 03:37:05 We can pull $500 a day in ad revenue Dec 21 03:37:12 I'll use the model....! Dec 21 03:37:45 reality you have an extremly hot app tho, I assume you are the exception not the rule Dec 21 03:37:58 It's not "that" hot. Dec 21 03:38:09 It's only at 21,000 downloads Dec 21 03:38:12 n8o: Appreciated; not sure if/when I might investigate that route, though. Dec 21 03:38:29 Reversi has more than that Dec 21 03:38:37 Mine's got a large number of downloads, but it's also not an app folks would have up frequently. Just a few minutes every week or so. Dec 21 03:38:38 FoxFireX: of course, I totally understand. Dec 21 03:39:12 Feel free to pass along contact info if you'd like, so I have it on hand in case I do want to check it out. Dec 21 03:39:27 I used an app today that was tricky with their ads, they used a bottom menu button, with an ad directly underneith, they probably get a ton of accidental clicks Dec 21 03:39:50 PrototypicLaptop: Which one was that? Dec 21 03:39:55 jobr Dec 21 03:40:14 I was looking at competition for a job app, jobr seems to be the only one Dec 21 03:40:16 We use a bottom ad as well Dec 21 03:40:29 do you get paid for impressions or just clicks? Dec 21 03:41:01 We're mixed right now. It's about 30/70 CPM to CPC. But we'll be 70/30 CPM by the time this new revision comes out Dec 21 03:42:38 The goal is $1000 a day in ad revenue Dec 21 03:44:07 reality9110: very nice Dec 21 03:45:18 Hopefully, after it's featured, we can expand the user base 10 fold as well. If that happens...we may have to add additional ad networks in order to keep up. Dec 21 03:45:36 But I don't know of any other ad networks that are going to cut CPM deals. Dec 21 03:46:02 reality9110: this all just on webos? Dec 21 03:46:08 yes Dec 21 03:46:19 r u paying to be featured? Dec 21 03:46:23 no Dec 21 03:46:40 didn't know if they'd started that yet or not...? Dec 21 03:47:26 No, not yet. The criteria is something like have above a 3 rating, show off WebOS features, good user interface, good reviews. Dec 21 03:48:43 do apps have to be bought on the app store? Dec 21 03:49:09 What do you mean bought? Dec 21 03:49:16 there are free apps in the app store Dec 21 03:49:32 n8o: Our app is free. Dec 21 03:49:45 there are apps available through other repositories (precentral, etc) Dec 21 03:49:59 And frankly, free is the way to go if you want to make money Dec 21 03:50:26 reality9110: right, i meant obtained. i'm not sure how webOS apps are available Dec 21 03:50:30 <-- iPhone developer Dec 21 03:50:41 n8o: Yes, as of now. Dec 21 03:51:10 is the app store on the web, or only on the device? Dec 21 03:51:20 only on device Dec 21 03:51:31 ah Dec 21 03:51:54 but there are other avenues for apps: http://www.precentral.net/homebrew-apps Dec 21 03:52:21 i wish I could buy a pre here :S Dec 21 03:53:12 Where? Dec 21 03:53:17 saskatchewan Dec 21 03:53:55 Bell Canada doesn't cover it? Dec 21 03:53:59 nope Dec 21 03:54:27 the non-rogers GSM network that telus and bell built isn't finished here, and it won't be finished anytime soon either Dec 21 03:54:53 walk across the border to...wyoming?...and buy one. Dec 21 03:55:15 wait, saskatchewan is big, right? Dec 21 03:55:28 drive across the border. Dec 21 03:55:31 yeah, really big, haha Dec 21 03:57:37 One thing is a pain. Supplying support for a popular app Dec 21 03:58:18 that's why I write unpopular apps. Dec 21 03:58:52 haeffb: Are you one of my beta testers? Dec 21 03:58:55 haeffb what's unpopular? Dec 21 03:59:17 reality9110: for part of your $1000 a day, you could probably hire an overseas call center. Dec 21 03:59:18 I'm hoping my unpopular apps get at least 1k purchases Dec 21 03:59:31 0 purchases for me. Dec 21 03:59:46 haeffb: I need to split that with the website Dec 21 03:59:58 There's an overseas marketing agency for it though Dec 21 04:00:24 haeffb what app if you dont mind me asking Dec 21 04:00:50 The one app I have in the catalog, TaskAdder, is free. It has 734 unique users at this point. Dec 21 04:01:34 I have another app in precentral's homebrew, Agenda, which has almost 80,000 downloads. Also free. Dec 21 04:01:53 And another app that I just published on precentral today, Milez. Dec 21 04:02:12 how do you guys publish to precentral? Dec 21 04:02:14 reality9110: not a beta tester, but I do have RadioTime Dec 21 04:02:35 haeffb: You want to be a beta tester? Dec 21 04:03:00 sure. but the station I want to listen to isn't available in RadioTime. but I can still try it out. Dec 21 04:03:10 What station? Dec 21 04:03:42 PrototypicLaptop: you send a PM to the mods to tell them you want to publish an app and they'll give you access to the developer stuff. Dec 21 04:03:52 k that's what I did tonight Dec 21 04:03:55 810whb sports talk in Kansas City. Dec 21 04:04:15 we talked about this a week or more ago. they only stream in WMA Dec 21 04:04:20 hey guys do you know if js lint is working in the latest komodo add on? Dec 21 04:04:40 haeffb: I've answered about 500 emails about particular stations from people so I don't remember Dec 21 04:04:54 it was in here. no worries. Dec 21 04:05:40 PrototypicLaptop: Agenda uses "undocumented" API's which means that Palm won't allow it in the catalog. Dec 21 04:05:54 homebrew is the only avenue for apps like that. Dec 21 04:06:43 hey haeffb Dec 21 04:06:58 at lease palm seems pretty cool about the homebrew scene Dec 21 04:07:01 what up, my competition? Dec 21 04:07:08 :) Dec 21 04:07:27 used to be, my brother, but you know how it is...:) Dec 21 04:07:40 the fall from grace is fast Dec 21 04:08:00 yeah, but it's a great ride on the way down. Dec 21 04:08:16 I really wish the Pre/Pixi didn't have rounded corners Dec 21 04:08:24 new app Doc? Dec 21 04:08:32 * haeffb loves the rounded corners Dec 21 04:08:37 Bmyers: RadioTime version 1.0.6 Dec 21 04:08:49 improving the fill rates? Dec 21 16:32:27 lol ok, so i have to overwrite the class with one i create or the ID, and add the settings into the css? Dec 21 16:42:04 oh, yeah, just noticed it was a class not an id... Dec 21 16:50:18 PrototypicLaptop: it was easy enough: "$('boo').innerHTML = 'hello earth';" "
enter search text
" Dec 21 16:50:30 added "id=boo" Dec 21 16:57:26 anyone know what the search field in the app catalog searches on? app title? description? Dec 21 17:42:13 trying to uninstall an app from my emulator Dec 21 17:42:21 but when i list apps, there is a space between the app name and the version number Dec 21 17:42:34 and when i try to remove the app, it says app not found. so im not doing *something* properly in referencing the app Dec 21 17:43:24 com.._? Dec 21 18:09:46 There is a really slick streaming app up now Dec 21 18:10:13 chuqui: any reason why my apps "DMB Live Setlist" or "Ants Tour Central" wont show up when searching any of the terms in the app titles? Don't seem to work correctly Dec 21 18:13:19 so, what order do these files get appended together when you do a palm-package? It's complaining about line 324....which would be awesome if I knew which file it was Dec 21 18:14:20 sugardave: I thought only the appinfo.json file was looked at when packaging. Dec 21 18:14:32 yeah, just noticed it said char 324, not line Dec 21 18:14:40 can't figure out what is wrong with it... Dec 21 18:14:45 let you account manager know. But if you run it from the command line, rather than letting your IDE run it, it should complain. Dec 21 18:18:33 you should see an error if there is one. Dec 21 18:18:42 nah, it's just sitting there... Dec 21 18:18:55 going to castle or emulator? In my assistant I make a new Prefs object, then call myprefs.refreshPrefs, to pull a dictionary from the Depot and store it as an instance variable. Dec 21 19:51:11 problem is, the type of 'this' changes as I return from callbacks. So initially, I pass a success and failure callback to my refreshPrefs method. Dec 21 19:52:03 which get stored as ivars. then in refreshpreds, I refer to two callbacks to handle success failure. I'll pastebin so this makes more sense... Dec 21 19:53:42 http://pastie.org/752280 Dec 21 19:54:00 bah, i think my widget code is messed Dec 21 19:54:06 i get this error when clicking the button and doing a modelchanged Dec 21 19:54:07 WARNING: modelChanged() found no watchers. Did you call it with the ORIGINAL model object, and not a replacement? Dec 21 19:59:12 Rick_work: http://webos.pastebin.com/m5b4eaa29 Dec 21 19:59:16 thats my JS code Dec 21 19:59:47 and my HTML: http://webos.pastebin.com/m477770a7 Dec 21 19:59:58 working except the arrow isnt changing... Dec 21 20:02:26 do i need to setup a button widget and assign the properties to the divider arrow? and then do a modelchanged on toggle? thats what i was trying to do and got that WARNING before Dec 21 20:06:54 got it. oddly enough, didnt need to do modelChanged Dec 21 20:34:12 * dBsooner wants to know where to get a blanket like Adora's? Did chuqui make that by hand? Dec 21 20:38:37 Can someone help me understand why the callbacks for my data object appear to change the class of the calling method? Is this a bug? Dec 21 20:39:54 in an event callback, what is the event.property for the widget/sender of the event? Dec 21 20:40:40 m55 event.item? I usually Object.toJSON(event) and log that to see what is going on for particular types of events. Dec 21 20:41:01 event.item gives you the model data, not the widget itself Dec 21 20:41:19 ah I see what you mean. You're looking for the DOM element? Dec 21 20:41:23 yeah Dec 21 20:49:42 ugh. another JSON issue w/ it killing my function dead when i try to put the items into a list Dec 21 20:50:24 the blanket was made by someone else for her. I've asked where they had it made, I want to create a few, too. Dec 21 20:51:11 ah - evalJSON: Dec 21 20:51:14 "force" is important Dec 21 20:54:50 i seem to have misplaced my this.. if i am trying to do: this.controller.window.setTimeout and it's not working. how can i reference it explicitly? Dec 21 21:07:57 morning Dec 21 21:12:40 Bmyers: Mojo.Controller.stageController.window.setTimeout or Mojo.Controller.getActiveStageController().window.setTimeout? Dec 21 21:13:14 i knew you would take a stab at it. lemme try the first one... Dec 21 21:16:28 anyone know how i would change the grey background of an expaded drawer to be transparent? Dec 21 21:16:30 expanded* Dec 21 21:16:44 is it possible to have the background show thru? Dec 21 21:16:51 no joy. neither one worked. Dec 21 21:21:28 BMyers, I just figured out the problem I was having... I also have misplaced my this Dec 21 21:22:29 fiftycal: habe you seen my this when u found yours? Dec 21 21:22:45 s/habe/maybe Dec 21 21:22:55 and I thought I had a sneaky workaround, but it doesn't quite work. Basically, I'm trying to put a wrapper around many of my Depot calls, so I can pull a big JSON array of settings into memory, and then access them synchronously until I need to "commit" them. Dec 21 21:23:01 blah i gotta brush up on CSS overrides Dec 21 21:23:17 no I hadn't seen this, but I think it's interesting how similar the problems are. Dec 21 21:23:48 basically I made a Prefs class, and have some methods on it that connect to the depot, fetch the data, save data, etc. Dec 21 21:24:23 the Prefs class also has two ivars, success, and failure, callbacks for whoever initially accessed the object. Dec 21 21:25:28 the problem is, "this" very soon stops being what I think "this" should be. Really strange. "this" from within a prototyped method on the Prefs class, no longer refers to a Prefs object. Dec 21 21:26:35 my cheesy workaround was to make a simple 'singleton' method that creates a Prefs object, and then just remove references to "this" within the Prefs class, only referring to getSharedPrefs().blah Dec 21 21:30:36 which _almost_ works... but when I go to call my callback at the end of the sequence of actions, it does nothing. if I Mojo.Log.info the callback function, it outputs the code that was originally associated with that callback. but invoking the method does nothing. I'm trying to invoke it this way: getSharedPrefs().success.invoke; Dec 21 21:33:12 chuqui: couldn't that be considered a violation of copyright? having that image of the OS printed? Dec 21 21:33:21 Just throwin that out there. ;) Dec 21 21:33:43 "fair use" Dec 21 21:33:51 ahh Dec 21 21:34:22 Now, if that blanket was available on Cafepress, it'd be marginal. If you tried selling it through Amazon, it'd be infringinging. Dec 21 21:34:37 oh shoot.. she's in here, so I can't say anything dirty relating to the blanket. Dec 21 21:36:15 Adora: were you standing on your tippy-toes to be able to see over the top of the blanket for the picture? Dec 21 21:36:24 hehehe, no Dec 21 21:36:53 it's -just- tall enough to cover everything but my head Dec 21 21:36:58 is anyone else having a problem installing RadioTime? Dec 21 21:36:58 Bmyers: lame...there was something about window..... Dec 21 21:37:18 Adora: even to be able to wrap it around your feetsies? Dec 21 21:37:36 http://www.precentral.net/app-spotlight-radiotime Dec 21 21:37:38 It's absolutely Adora-ble. :-) Dec 21 21:37:40 mmm, maybe not wrap around Dec 21 21:37:42 i'm consistently receiving the app limit hit Dec 21 21:37:50 but i've erased several apps and restarted the phone Dec 21 21:37:50 definitely cover Dec 21 21:38:28 Bmyers: isn't the controller the window? try it without .window Dec 21 21:38:31 srsly though, that blanket is the best christmas present ever Dec 21 21:38:52 Adora, do you know someone with a giant dye-sub printer? or what? Dec 21 21:39:33 madrox had it done by some online service Dec 21 21:39:47 standard print-your-photo-on-crap place Dec 21 21:40:10 define "crap"? Dec 21 21:40:25 mugs, totebags, mousepads, blankets Dec 21 21:40:26 your mom Dec 21 21:40:27 etc Dec 21 21:40:31 ohhhh Dec 21 21:40:49 I was thinkin the TOTALLY wrong thing. Dec 21 21:40:49 * Adora grins and wobbles dBsooner Dec 21 21:41:10 afk sec Dec 21 21:41:23 Oddly, at work just now we were having one of those "your mom" flashbacks.. Dec 21 21:42:38 tter Dec 21 21:43:46 Will Palm pay for a Charter bus for me from Tulsa to El Paso, TX on Dec 30 adn returning on Jan 1? Dec 21 21:43:55 I'll let them advertise all over the side of the bus.. Dec 21 21:44:22 Or heck.. if they pay for me a plane ticket to El Paso, I'll wear a costume of a Pixi or Pre. Dec 21 21:44:40 * dBsooner really doesn't want to drive 14 hours... Dec 21 21:44:51 aha, final score javascript: 29, C developer: 2 Dec 21 21:44:57 just found my issue... Dec 21 21:45:03 ".bind(this)" Dec 21 21:46:44 adora: im jealous of that blanket Dec 21 21:46:48 DO WANT Dec 21 21:48:39 aw yeah. multiple drawers, each displaying lists and dynamically updating the title of each drawer w/ the number of list items. all based on a cookie used to pull cloud data :) Dec 21 21:52:40 I guess Palm isn't going to take me up on my "cheap" advertisement offer. I figured you dev relations folk would fork it over. Dec 21 21:53:13 hello Dec 21 21:53:13 dBsooner: What is happening in El Paso? Dec 21 21:53:15 * rwhitby wonders where the blanket picture is ... Dec 21 21:55:20 has anyone here explored group texting possibilities? Dec 21 21:55:59 rwhitby: it's gross, you don't want to see it.. it's Adora clad in only a blanket. The blanket has webOS graphics on it. Dec 21 21:56:02 dBsooner: all we can offer right now is webOS books Dec 21 21:56:15 will those help you get to el paso? Dec 21 21:56:18 Adora: well shoot.. I'd take those as well.. Dec 21 21:56:28 Adora: yeah.. would help me not be bored on my 14 hour drive. Dec 21 21:56:32 Adora: I finally got a book! nebula sent one to me :-) Dec 21 21:56:39 rwhitby: \o/ Dec 21 21:56:42 sugardave: Sun Bowl.. Stanford vs Oklahoma Dec 21 21:57:02 dBsooner: email me your address, will ship one your way Dec 21 21:57:06 * rwhitby now has two Pre's, four touchstones, and a book :-) Dec 21 21:57:11 do you have any friends who would want a copy? Dec 21 21:57:23 all I got was a bag of rocks Dec 21 21:57:23 * FoxFireX is in San Antonio. "Were I to drive to El Paso, I'd encounter approximately one metric ton of jack squat. Such empty country." Dec 21 21:57:34 Aye.. one friend, Adora. Dec 21 21:57:44 what webOS book? Dec 21 21:57:45 all i have is a bag of tricks Dec 21 21:58:02 it's the webOS book that comes with the phone. ;) LOL Dec 21 21:58:13 dBsooner: mention how many copies you want in the email Dec 21 21:58:35 500! Dec 21 21:58:49 someone giving away books here? Dec 21 21:59:01 * dBsooner sells them for $10 a pop to buy his plane ticket to El Paso. :) Dec 21 21:59:07 j/k Dec 21 21:59:09 LoneStar34: eventually, yeah Dec 21 21:59:33 no promises on how soon we'll get around to actually shipping them, but we have tons to give away Dec 21 21:59:40 adora: what sort of books? Dec 21 21:59:41 not Mojo.Controller.stageController.setTimeout Dec 21 21:59:54 hell, I have more than a case of books at my house Dec 21 22:00:02 books with pictures? Dec 21 22:00:03 LOL Dec 21 22:00:16 http://www.amazon.com/Palm-webOS-Mitch-Allen/dp/0596155255 Dec 21 22:00:28 Bmyers: still kind of looking at that...why not just fire off one at the beginning of the (whatever) and kill it when you need to? Dec 21 22:00:42 O'reilly WebOS books? Dec 21 22:00:58 That irish lad does make some good books Dec 21 22:01:06 * FoxFireX bought that one when it was in preview form. "Just had to learn about what webOS was going to be like as early as possible." Dec 21 22:01:08 sugardave: yes, gonna do it that way. Dec 21 22:01:41 * FoxFireX always wanted to do PalmOS development, but just never quite got around to it. "Figured I'd jump in on the ground floor this time." Dec 21 22:01:47 I still have the roughcuts "last" version Dec 21 22:01:56 but no hard copy Dec 21 22:02:18 I bought the roughtcuts (forgot that name) plus hard copy version. Figured I was gonna buy it anyway. :) Dec 21 22:03:04 FoxFireX: I did, too, but I had to have my check card re-issued and when they went to hit it for the price of the book, it failed Dec 21 22:03:34 once again, procrastination pays off as I can now get one for free, it seems :D Dec 21 22:03:37 Huh. That's unfortunate, although it does give me ideas for cheapskating things later if desired. ;) Dec 21 22:03:39 < has no book at all :( Dec 21 22:03:53 * FoxFireX honestly finds the online help more helpful now, anyway. Dec 21 22:04:17 Once there's a "webOS, the Definitive Guide", that one I'll probably use. Dec 21 22:04:19 me too, buy ppl here like, sleep and stuff? its such a pain.. Dec 21 22:04:49 * kesne is back Dec 21 22:04:55 I hope no starch press does a webos book Dec 21 22:04:59 Despite all the inaccuracies, I still get enough out of the official docs to make most of my way. Dec 21 22:04:59 some of their stuff is hilarious Dec 21 22:05:01 s/buy/but Dec 21 22:05:09 Hey Adora! Dec 21 22:05:44 absolute bsd is one of my favorite books ever Dec 21 22:05:46 heya kesne Dec 21 22:09:39 Adora: same here love my unix/ bsd/ linux reference books Dec 21 22:10:00 can anyone help me understand how the messaging API stuff works? ..I'm trying to understand how contacts are separated in the To: field. Dec 21 22:13:13 ie when entering a contact, pressing comma "selects" the contact, but if you feed it as data from another program, it takes the comma as a comma. Dec 21 22:13:27 how do I create the fading in the scroller widget? Dec 21 22:15:06 Tokyo_Ben: Not familiar with that API, but have you tried passing an array of contacts instead? No idea if it'd work, but that seems to be how the email one is set up. Dec 21 22:15:58 I can try that. thanks Dec 21 22:16:34 LoneStar34 it's called a scroller scrim. Look it up in the API Dec 21 22:18:03 rick_work: ok thanks... Dec 21 22:19:11 free books for webos dev? count me in! Dec 21 22:19:13 * yetdog raises hand Dec 21 22:19:15 * FoxFireX ponders... "Do I install VirtualBox and the SDK on the little netbook I just got for my upcoming Christmas travel plans..." Dec 21 22:20:11 FoxFireX yes, duh Dec 21 22:20:25 Just wondering whether it's poor little processor can keep up. Dec 21 22:20:59 you want to be stuck in some relative's home with no highspeed internet access, no wifi, and the family watching football or burning the yule log without anything to occupy your mind, then be my guest!!! Dec 21 22:21:10 anyone, I have button in scene html, that do not want to be displayed until certain conditions are present, the problem is the button is defined in assistant.setup, hence automatically displays... Dec 21 22:21:34 Shove it in a div, set the div's display to none in your activate() method. :) Dec 21 22:21:36 LoneStar34 put the button inside another div. Dec 21 22:21:47 then set display = none in the style for the outer div. Dec 21 22:21:51 like FoxFireX said Dec 21 22:22:11 I think you have to set the display none after setting it up; I ran into a problem setting up a widget in a display none div at some point. Dec 21 22:22:19 Set it up first, then hide it, though, and it should be okay. Dec 21 22:22:26 i think you can also set its method to hide() Dec 21 22:22:27 oh ok, so when the conditon is met, send out a "display:block" to the div... Dec 21 22:23:12 That's the idea, yeah. Dec 21 22:24:00 i know how to send text and stuff to a div, but how do I send "display:block" via DOM Dec 21 22:25:10 divObj.style.display = "block"; Dec 21 22:25:39 $('divID').setStyle({display:'block'}); Dec 21 22:25:45 or what FoxFireX said Dec 21 22:26:07 in javascript, 10,326 ways to kill a cat Dec 21 22:26:07 Does setStyle overwrite other, non-related styles? Dec 21 22:26:14 FoxFireX no Dec 21 22:26:22 Cool; haven't used it, so didn't know. Dec 21 22:26:35 really nice, just hand it a json object. Dec 21 22:26:51 That part of Prototype? Dec 21 22:26:51 http://www.prototypejs.org/api/element/setStyle Dec 21 22:26:56 I guess so. :) Dec 21 22:27:14 ok thanks, will mess this this stuff , will post a fix on the forums and webos101 Dec 21 22:27:44 * FoxFireX wishes he'd known about Prototype back when he started a JS-inclusive app for work. "That is, if it existed back then. Been working on that program for what, seven years now? Gah." Dec 21 22:28:47 earliest rev 2006... but you could include the js file NOW and start calling it as you mod stuff. Dec 21 22:29:38 Yeah, but then we get into a state of having some parts that work one way, other parts that work a different way, and honestly we've got so many splits like that already, I'm hesitant to introduce yet another variant. Dec 21 22:29:54 Although the alternate view is if it's already that fragmented, what's one more grenade? Dec 21 22:30:00 Well, tell you what we recently did. Dec 21 22:30:12 we did three passes through an app recently... Dec 21 22:31:23 1) convert every mention of a string to a call to db the stores a string. Dec 21 22:31:45 2) change every call to "getelementbyid" to $('divID') Dec 21 22:32:20 3) change every call to create a new ajax object to the prototype ajax call. Dec 21 22:32:34 At no point did we touch program logic. Nor did we mess with code flow Dec 21 22:32:52 we just cleaned up those things, and by golly, ended up with much more readable code. Dec 21 22:33:12 it took 2 days. It was worth it. Dec 21 22:33:17 i just wanna say, im on fire thanks to y'all in here. Dec 21 22:33:22 I'd probably go to something like that, although I'd also need to figure out which parts would be most applicable. We don't really do much in the way of AJAX. Dec 21 22:33:24 and not in that burning, itching sort of way :p Dec 21 22:34:04 it looks like msging only accepts a string as contactAddress Dec 21 22:34:19 not an array. but im kinda new to js Dec 21 22:34:21 I'd also have to get the higher ups to sign on, both in terms of including open source licensed software (which they're leery of) and of spending the time to do it. Not sure if we could convince the client to cover the cost of it. Dec 21 22:34:30 the next thing we need to do is to go through and eliminate global variables. Dec 21 22:34:40 Tokyo_Ben yes, string, not an array. yep yep Dec 21 22:35:10 so... not possible to do group txt at all? Dec 21 22:35:14 FoxFireX it's MIT license. So, no restrictions on corporate use, and no "license infection" Dec 21 22:35:23 Tokyo_Ben nope. Not at this time. Dec 21 22:35:44 Yeah, I know it's MIT. The issue is our legal folks have this "Well they can't PROVE they own the code to give away rights to it" mentality. Dec 21 22:35:53 We can only get through that with firm backing from management. Dec 21 22:35:56 can't input a string that contains whatever separator is used between contacts? Dec 21 22:36:01 weird Dec 21 22:36:27 * FoxFireX shrugs. "They've given us some really odd legal opinions on other stuff as well, but I guess that's why I'm not a lawyer." Dec 21 22:36:56 Tokyo_Ben http://developer.palm.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1660 Dec 21 22:37:12 Tokyo_Ben and I quote "Note: This currently supports only one number" Dec 21 22:37:35 Well, that was the one that's "an alternative" to the other method. Dec 21 22:37:44 You figure the one recipient applies to both methods? Dec 21 22:37:54 Yea I've been on that page for a while now. hmm Dec 21 22:38:20 FoxFireX it clearly said _This applies only to the launched chat view_ IE one contact. Dec 21 22:39:14 There ya go then. Dec 21 22:39:21 Tokyo_Ben there are patches to messaging that allow broadcast, but those patches are not part of the published api. If you're working on homebrew, no problem, if you're app-catalog focused, then one by one. Dec 21 22:39:49 and note that this only LAUNCHES the messaging app, that the human must still press SEND unless you patch the messaging app as well. Dec 21 22:40:02 same as email and same as telephone Dec 21 22:40:13 I don't think I've seen those patches. Are they in preware? Dec 21 22:41:56 I wonder if it would be too tedious to populate the chat for contacts one at a time, with a notification you could tap to proceed through a "group" of contacts.. Dec 21 22:42:20 some people really want this functionality Dec 21 22:42:26 some do. Dec 21 22:42:35 do you understand why it's an issue for palm? Dec 21 22:42:44 Spamming? Dec 21 22:42:47 there's two problems.... Dec 21 22:43:22 that's one. the other is, some carriers charge per-recipient for sending sms... not per message. Dec 21 22:45:05 dawm_: my latest update borked my registration system Dec 21 22:45:08 erg Dec 21 22:46:11 interesting Dec 21 22:47:17 Someone just told me their iphone 1st gen didn't even support multiple recipients in the early period Dec 21 22:47:38 due to atts network Dec 21 22:47:46 Tokyo_Ben of course, the messaging APP supports multiple recipients, jut not the API. Dec 21 22:48:26 what a lot of people seem to want is a way to store the GROUP LIST in the messaging app, which would be a patch to the messaging app. Dec 21 22:48:28 AT&T's NOTwork Dec 21 22:48:34 Yea that's why I'm so interested in why it's not possible to use the APP's full capability Dec 21 22:48:41 haha Dec 21 22:49:14 if you're willing to do it as homebrew is I would clone the messaging app into com.palm.multimessage and modify palm's code to add the "mailing list" function. Dec 21 22:49:53 then, have dbsooner or someone help you extract all your diff's and package them into a multi-messaging patch. Dec 21 22:50:22 cant just loop an array of recipients into the single SMS call? Dec 21 22:50:33 so, single message for each recip? Dec 21 22:50:35 nope you get a stack of messages Dec 21 22:50:51 oh so he wants it to show up in the messaging app as 1 messge Dec 21 22:50:54 and not a big@$$ list Dec 21 22:50:55 ? Dec 21 22:51:14 yes, which the app does. Dec 21 22:51:18 ah gotcha Dec 21 22:52:24 these drawers are awesome - AJAX calls to populate each with a list, each w/ its own scroller Dec 21 22:52:33 the gap between email and sms is really disappearing with smartphones Dec 21 22:52:35 and the AJAX call also updates the title of each drawer w/ the number of results Dec 21 22:52:37 pretty sweet :) Dec 21 22:54:18 I am still disappointed at most of the apps that are out. Like you're saying, the potential of AJAX, JS, CSS, HTML is huge. We just need corporations to get on board. Dec 21 22:54:58 tokyo - what would you like to see that hasnt been done yet? (honestly curious) Dec 21 22:55:50 well this is my first smartphone so im not sure what im expecting but i haven't found many apps I'm willing to buy Dec 21 22:56:03 if I had a good idea for an app I would be making it Dec 21 22:56:06 i like to compare it to the iphone, as thats what ive switched from Dec 21 22:56:16 we are definitely in dire need of GPU acceleration Dec 21 22:56:22 but many of the popular things on iphone are specialized, or trademarked Dec 21 22:56:24 yea for sure Dec 21 22:56:40 and a binary SDK that allows more access, like mic recording support Dec 21 22:56:46 although the toppleball game got smoother since its release Dec 21 22:56:52 if they crack open the GPU itll be sweet Dec 21 22:57:03 yea, mic, camera, all the hardware Dec 21 22:57:17 i want to see a photo modification app Dec 21 22:58:15 like the iphone one that desaturates pics, or a photobooth type thing Dec 21 23:07:04 i guess it would have to use pixastic or something Dec 21 23:07:13 js based image processor Dec 21 23:32:31 within the stage controller, how can you send a method call to the top scene assistant? Dec 21 23:33:21 this.controller.topScene().methodCall(); and this.controller.topScene().controller.methodCall(); Dec 21 23:33:24 doesn't work Dec 21 23:37:13 this.controller.activeScene().methodCall(); maybe... Dec 21 23:38:23 There may be a .assistant in there somewhere. Dec 21 23:41:27 this.controller.activeScene().assistant.downloadData(); does work, thanks Dec 21 23:52:05 * sugardave needs to remember assistant. Dec 21 23:56:22 i could use an assistant myself.. Dec 22 00:00:05 hello Dec 22 00:00:59 I'd like to ask if anyone is familiar with manipulating hard keyboard layouts Dec 22 00:01:04 I want to add a Dec 22 00:01:50 I want to add a greek keyboard layout on the hard keyboard. Anyone can point me to the right direction? Dec 22 00:05:56 you want to remap the keys via software ? Dec 22 00:10:02 yes, that's the my goal. Dec 22 00:10:16 is it possible? Dec 22 00:11:19 sorry for the typo Dec 22 00:20:53 diosif: i dont know if it is. Would mind being in Greece right now tho. Dec 22 00:21:12 Perhaps the folks on webos-internal could point you in the right direction. Dec 22 00:26:02 I've been there... No one knows now... Dec 22 00:26:36 thnks anyway Dec 22 00:37:59 diosif: I think you should be apply to capture the keypress event and then remap it in the handler and then say flush that to a text box or whatever input field is active Dec 22 00:39:45 Have you logged Mojo.Event.keypress.originalEvent to see what info it contains? Dec 22 00:40:13 I'm guessing it passes the keycode. You could use that as keys for a hash that contains the remappig Dec 22 00:40:41 The details are non-existent on what properties the keypress.originalEvent has...so you'll have to figure that out Dec 22 00:50:54 jfelectron: Thank you, i'll look into that! Good idea Dec 22 00:51:31 NP.....let me know if it works :) Dec 22 00:53:22 can the look of a textfield be modified to look different? Dec 22 00:53:44 LS34: hmm...interesting....have you looked at inspector? Dec 22 00:53:56 to see what div's surround it and their styles? Dec 22 00:54:18 at the least you should be able to use border-image or something Dec 22 00:55:26 jfelectron: Don't you think that there is another way to do it? This one might work, but it is a work around, isn't it? Dec 22 00:55:39 a work around? Dec 22 00:55:56 I mean I guess you could find the underlying code that is doing and replace the built-in table Dec 22 00:56:08 I don't know where that is though Dec 22 00:56:18 that's the point Dec 22 00:56:44 if i can replace, or even better, add another codepage Dec 22 00:56:58 have you grepped around? Dec 22 00:57:05 and make the keyboard use both (one at a time :) ) Dec 22 00:57:35 not yet, I am just researching for public knowledge... Dec 22 00:57:37 http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Key_Codes Dec 22 00:58:12 you just gave me homework :) Dec 22 00:58:17 Anybody on bell? Dec 22 00:58:30 You should be able to modify or or extend the Mojo.Char class Dec 22 00:59:01 diosif: what is a greek layout? is it different from qwerty, qwertz or azerty? Dec 22 00:59:30 (which are the three layouts supported by Palm in the binaries) Dec 22 00:59:39 rwitby: No, it is qwerty but with greek font Dec 22 01:00:17 for example, s is sigma (σ), u is theta (θ) etc Dec 22 01:00:22 diosif: so you want to change the font rather than the keyboard mapping? Dec 22 01:01:08 mmm, I think it is the mapping because the unicode has allready greek support... Dec 22 01:01:15 but I am not sure Dec 22 01:02:17 does it? The symbols don't include greek characters do they? Dec 22 01:02:48 I can read greek on the emulator for sure... Dec 22 01:02:59 in the browser? Dec 22 01:03:07 greek web pages show correctly, greek contacts and calendar too Dec 22 01:03:18 ahh....ok Dec 22 01:03:38 and i read on O'reillys book about greek font support Dec 22 01:04:08 (not that they care about greece! They just need greek characters for scientific texts) Dec 22 01:04:39 oh yes: 1253 (Greek) Dec 22 01:04:46 exactly Dec 22 01:04:50 yes....that's why I wanted greek characters! Dec 22 01:05:12 Can't stand people that criticize things Dec 22 01:05:38 so, do you think i need low level api in order to do that or I should start trying with the one we have? Dec 22 01:06:02 Ok...looks like you can setup localization for your app Dec 22 01:06:17 do you have the allen book? Dec 22 01:06:46 "Localized applications have an additional directory, resources, at the application’s root directory, and within it are directories for each locale" Dec 22 01:06:57 yes, i do Dec 22 01:07:08 i read the chapter Dec 22 01:07:09 pg. 265 Dec 22 01:07:15 that doesn't help? Dec 22 01:07:19 get some more interesting feedback Doc? Dec 22 01:07:46 actually it would help if i wanted to build a "english-greek" dictionary Dec 22 01:07:56 but not for using greek in my calendar Dec 22 01:08:21 ahhh......crap I see it supports the the codepage but doesn't have greek localization support Dec 22 01:08:45 Bmyers: Some jackass on Precentral Dec 22 01:08:48 :* Dec 22 01:08:53 :( Dec 22 01:09:40 thats odd... Dec 22 01:09:42 And these Bell people as well Dec 22 01:09:52 Two of them say it doesn't work. Dec 22 01:10:00 And then they make up some odd reasoning why Dec 22 01:10:19 And I'm just like, "No...impossible." Dec 22 01:11:41 I just want to say, "Hey...I have a better idea. How about you quit modding the hell out of your Pre?" Dec 22 01:11:43 I am trying to contact the people who made the greek localization of ubuntu. Maybe they could help Dec 22 01:12:14 but instead you are calmed by the revenue checks coming in from the ads? Dec 22 01:12:43 reality9110: May i ask which app you are talking about? Dec 22 01:12:46 You try answering 30 emails a day asking the same questions over and over again and see how calm you remain Dec 22 01:12:49 diosif: RadioTime Dec 22 01:12:59 whats it pay? Dec 22 01:13:03 thanks Dec 22 01:13:15 i can do onshore support if the price is right.. Dec 22 01:13:19 Bmyers: $0 Dec 22 01:13:36 i'll think about it.. Dec 22 01:13:43 i thought about it.. no thanks.. Dec 22 01:14:25 maybe you should start a support forum Dec 22 01:14:34 that way you could answer it once Dec 22 01:14:48 I'm modding the app to handle the stupid crap Dec 22 01:14:50 and have everyone else in the forum yell at them to search the forum first Dec 22 01:16:14 jfelectron: Just an idea... What if i make a script that changes the keycode file on the fly? Would it work? Dec 22 01:16:40 Well....my idea what to use the keypress event handler to do that Dec 22 01:17:25 haeefb!!! Dec 22 01:17:33 Bmyers!!! Dec 22 01:17:36 I hope i'll find time to try both ideas soon... Dec 22 01:17:38 The thing is, I'm not sure how to prevent it propagating to whatever is normally doing it Dec 22 01:18:08 well there is the virtual keyboard too that might give you some clues. Dec 22 01:18:19 yes Dec 22 01:18:33 but those are separate events Dec 22 01:18:43 I know, i talked to the developer (help me with the name...) but he pointed me here Dec 22 01:18:55 haeffe: whats the word? Dec 22 01:19:26 how to use the hard keyboard with greek fonts (1253) Dec 22 01:19:39 this is what it's all about Dec 22 01:19:53 checking out feedback on precentral Dec 22 01:20:16 tried that and got nothing... Dec 22 01:20:21 "please add this, and that, and have it wash the dishes, too..." Dec 22 01:21:06 I think you can listen to the keypress events...but how to stop it propagating to the 'internal' handler Dec 22 01:21:08 ? Dec 22 01:21:56 LoneStar34: ping ping Dec 22 01:21:57 and nobody commented on the cool drawers in the list. Dec 22 01:22:14 bastards....they just don't know a good thing when they see it Dec 22 01:22:21 commented where? Dec 22 01:22:39 http://forums.precentral.net/homebrew-apps/220436-milez.html Dec 22 01:23:41 that can be done... I read it somewhere... It is like when you use a key to fire a weapon. It just captures the keyboard Dec 22 01:23:56 but i can't recall where i saw it Dec 22 01:24:45 jfelectron: sorry was taking a picture of a background, that may go into my app Dec 22 01:24:45 haeffb: ahh.....well a good UI shouldn't be noticed right? Dec 22 01:25:01 well, it has been very interesting talking to you here Dec 22 01:25:18 gotta go to work tomorrow (it is 3 in the morning here) Dec 22 01:25:22 LS34: ok...looking at the styling spreadsheet you want to mod .textfield-group Dec 22 01:25:47 thank you very much (specially jfelectron) Dec 22 01:25:56 and see you soon Dec 22 01:26:12 bye Dec 22 01:26:14 no problem....did what we could :/ Dec 22 01:26:18 .textfield-group { Dec 22 01:26:18 clear: both; Dec 22 01:26:18 border-width: 15px; Dec 22 01:26:19 -webkit-border-image: url(../images/textfield-noshadow.png) 15 15 15 15 stretch stretch; Dec 22 01:26:19 } Dec 22 01:26:40 LS34 you can override the border image Dec 22 01:26:52 that will change the look Dec 22 01:28:18 LS34: I highly reccomend getting the style spreadsheet...it tells you exactly what default classes are applied to the different widgets Dec 22 01:28:20 jfelectron: what about the "palm-row-wrapper textfield-group" Dec 22 01:28:44 LS34: that means its applying both palm-row-wrapper and texfield-group Dec 22 01:29:13 is the textfield in a list? Dec 22 01:29:17 is preferences a mandatory menu item? Dec 22 01:29:30 the actual textfield style is still being set by text-field group Dec 22 01:29:56 palm-row-wrapper doesn't have a border-image set Dec 22 01:30:20 jfelectron: no just a regular textfield, with the "palm-group-title" Dec 22 01:30:54 LS34: but its a textfield widget right? Dec 22 01:31:11 jfelectron: yes Dec 22 01:31:11 if its a widget....textfield-group will be applied automatically Dec 22 01:31:30 you should be able to see that in the inspector Dec 22 01:31:49 m55: I don't think so, doesn't seem applicable to every app Dec 22 01:32:03 jfelectron: ok thanks, doing some last minute testing, will submit the app tonight Dec 22 01:32:14 and UI tweaking Dec 22 01:32:14 LS34: Nice Dec 22 01:32:52 its just a matter of figuring out which styles to apply to which divs to get just the look you want :) Dec 22 01:33:08 hopefully it will not get lost like my other app did at palm Dec 22 01:33:11 =) Dec 22 01:33:15 lol...yeah Dec 22 01:33:40 what do you do if the debugger refuses to break inside a function? Dec 22 01:33:56 Its clearly being called because log calls inside it are recorded Dec 22 01:34:27 jfelectron: no sure about the function question... Dec 22 01:34:47 this debugger is circa 1975 Dec 22 01:34:52 lol Dec 22 01:35:11 the beginning of BMX Dec 22 01:35:15 nay....1981....at least its high level code Dec 22 01:35:20 :) Dec 22 01:35:52 BMX....like bikes? Dec 22 01:36:49 yeah Dec 22 01:38:35 where the first one's bike or smalled wheeled? Dec 22 01:39:12 just wondering what the genesis was? What did they make the first BMX from? Dec 22 01:42:22 any change the view or commandmenu label while the scene is active? Dec 22 01:44:33 have you tried modelChanged? Dec 22 01:45:11 my wifi has been so damn inconsistent the last couple of days Dec 22 01:45:12 both the labels and the commands tied to the button/choices are in the model Dec 22 01:45:25 LS34: in your house or work? Dec 22 01:45:40 home: Dec 22 01:46:10 bringing on another programmer into webOS Dec 22 01:47:19 802.11? Dec 22 01:47:33 b/g or n? Dec 22 01:48:11 not sure, but, tjhe at&t folks told my father, that the lines are old, and will fail at one poing Dec 22 01:48:13 point Dec 22 01:50:38 ahhh...so its the DSL that's the problem Dec 22 01:50:48 not the wifi per se Dec 22 01:54:00 i think it is a combo Dec 22 01:54:43 really sucks when trying to test a webOS app... Dec 22 01:55:47 ahh...crap....I think its Doctor time for my phone...one patch too many I guess Dec 22 01:57:47 what version of webOS is your phone running? Dec 22 01:58:08 lol...actually I was accidentally running the debugger on my phone...forgot it was plugged into my laptop.....(hits palm to forehead) Dec 22 01:58:44 wow Dec 22 01:58:45 nice Dec 22 02:00:48 would suck to be stuck in an airport for a couple days due to weather... Dec 22 02:03:22 did you see the new FAA regs re: time or tarmac? Dec 22 02:03:36 three hours is still quite a lot of time to be stuck in a plane on the ground Dec 22 02:03:55 yeah, 3 hours, would really suck Dec 22 02:04:02 would rather be at the bar Dec 22 02:04:29 spending $8.00 a beer Dec 22 02:05:24 I had a 9 hour delay at O'hare once, my bar tab was more than the ticket. Dec 22 02:05:43 damn that is nuts Dec 22 02:06:34 airport bars are fun Dec 22 02:07:14 crashing in a plane because of bad weather would be worse than being stuck in a plane on the ground for hours.. Dec 22 02:07:29 yeah, forsure Dec 22 02:08:12 i'm just saying.. Dec 22 02:08:37 it would really suck being grounded on a plane for hours and some plane crashes into your grounded plane Dec 22 02:09:30 So it looks like pop and shift from array are being redefined somewhere, but I can't seem to figure out where. Anyone know mojo framework well enough to know where off their head or if it's possible to get the native implementations back? Dec 22 02:09:52 i think in that situation they would let you off the plane.. Dec 22 02:10:24 Sloloem, you mean prototype? Dec 22 02:12:11 Bmyers, I assumed it was prototype, but I took a look through the prototype.js file in refcode and couldn't find the redefine. Dec 22 02:13:00 It's definitely not native, since outputting anArray.pop to Mojo.Log doesn't say: function () { [ native code] } Dec 22 02:57:25 how do I use the opposite type ("pop") of transition with this.controller.stageController.swapScene({name:'scene', transition: Mojo.Transition.zoomFade}); ? Dec 22 02:57:42 using SceneController.prepareTransition() makes my app freeze Dec 22 02:57:56 giving me [20091221-18:55:31.496921] warning: Only one transition may be run at a time **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue Dec 22 02:59:56 2009
