**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Nov 19 03:00:00 2017 Nov 19 17:57:55 I'm here! Nov 19 17:58:46 Here is today's agenda: http://forums.webosnation.com/webos-events/331758-webos-user-s-online-meet-up-3.html#post3452046 Nov 19 18:01:00 I suspect it may just be me this time! ;-) But is there anyone new who wants to introduce themselves? Nov 19 18:02:41 That was: 1. Attendees & Introductions of new attendees. Nov 19 18:03:08 I assume we will be skipping over 2. Any proposed updates to the aims or rules of the group...? Nov 19 18:03:28 3. Possible selection of officers or area contacts. Nov 19 18:03:42 Does anyone have anything on this? Nov 19 18:04:49 4. Progress reports Nov 19 18:05:33 4a. New browser for TP only. (nizovn) The thread for this project is here: http://forums.webosnation.com/hp-touchpad/331764-tp-qupzilla.html Nov 19 18:06:22 Is anyone here at all? Nov 19 18:08:17 OK, for the sake of completeness and for any late arrivals, I'll just post the agenda and call it done. Nov 19 18:08:32 4b. Legacy browser patch. (Misj, Shuswap) Nov 19 18:10:19 4c. Updated meta-doctors. (Herrie, bbito) Nov 19 18:10:31 4d. Updated location service. (Misj, mazzinia) Nov 19 18:11:00 4e. Fix the webos internals patch feed or manage it manually. (novaldex, Preemptive) Nov 19 18:13:43 'm going to propose renaming this item as the wiki is basically fixed. This is now about adding & updating information to the wiki. I guess it should be added to the general documentation project. I know bbito has added some items. I asked George Mari to write and article on clearing the /var partition for smooth operation and I think that should also be added to the wiki. Nov 19 18:14:02 4f. webOS Nation App gallery submission and access. (Preemptive) Nov 19 18:15:48 I cannot personally fix this, so it is either a question of waiting for the Mobile nations admins to fix it, or I am open to suggestions - the two obvious ones might be to ask Dieter Bohn & Derek Kessler for suppoert or even to do the work, but I don't know if that will get any traction. Nov 19 18:16:09 4g. Preservation / Restoration of sources of documentation (including original Palm documents, Open WebOS & 3rd party sources such as webOS101). Nov 19 18:16:40 4g.1. Use the webOS internals wiki for technical information. (novaldex, Preemptive, bbito & Shuswap) Nov 19 18:16:56 See above basically. Nov 19 18:17:09 4g.2. Find / improve documentation of mojo / enyo. (Misj) Nov 19 18:17:31 I think some more sources were found, so i think this is going OK Nov 19 18:17:46 4g.3. git.webos-internals.org has gone for a long time, so maybe some sources of preware apps are lost.. would be nice to recover it too Nov 19 18:18:50 I believe this issue is pretty much resolved, or needs to move to a next stage. Proposals welcome. It may relate to any moves towards a new app catalog. Nov 19 18:19:01 4g.4. On device Help System.. Nov 19 18:27:38 I'm pretty sure the original documents exist and were on palm.si If those parts could be used to make web pages, then a simple webviewing app could be used to access all the sites covered under item 4g. The problem is that (I think) the original help app sent device and version numbers to the server, which selected the correct help files based on that. I suppose such a system could be replicated, but it might be simpler to enable Nov 19 18:27:40 greater user input or just have a generally searchable site. Of course, all the original on-device help material is likely to be technically copyright of HP / Palm, but it's only value is as documentation and if we can't set up the original material to be accessed easily, then we may have to 'rewrite' it anyway. Finally, I suspect it was all fairly basic operating help anyway, which could easily be covered in say, the pivotCE guide, Nov 19 18:27:41 which would include details of more recent required fixes. Nov 19 18:27:54 4g.5. Old domains associated with webOS. Nov 19 18:28:03 I have nothing to add here Nov 19 18:28:34 4h. Lobbing TCL for an open Palm device. Nov 19 18:30:43 Beyond the original positive response from webOS Ports, I've had no further reply here. I was hoping to hear back from Halium and then to contact other projects via them. I also hoped for some input on the contents of the letter. But I guess I will just have to take another crack at it. Nov 19 18:30:59 5. Discussion of other items Nov 19 18:31:56 5a. Krack hack Nov 19 18:34:03 As far as I'm aware, nothing has happened here. To recap, the fixes should be known by now & should not be a huge challenge for someone with skills like the person who fixed the SSL issue. Therefore, the obstacle is finding someone with the knowledge, desire and time to do this work. Nov 19 18:34:17 5b. webOS time service issue (Network Time not keeping clocks accurate) Nov 19 18:37:23 It remains unclear how easy it would be to fix this. It could be a simple matter of changing a server IP or address in the code. For now, ClockSync remains a workaround. We own the code for this app, so possibly the automated, periodic sync mode could be integrated into the system via the Service Pack Meta-doctor Nov 19 18:38:50 5c. Device back up options. Nov 19 18:39:22 Preemptive: For teh time issue Nov 19 18:39:27 I think I tested that at my end Nov 19 18:39:39 Hi Herrie! Nov 19 18:39:39 And it's working OK with the patched binary for the Timeserver Nov 19 18:39:45 Just around for a bit Nov 19 18:39:49 Oh, good news! Nov 19 18:40:03 So we could include it in a patched meta doctor and put a patch in Preware Nov 19 18:41:16 That sounds great. I'll 'upgrade' this item to a project... or maybe if you feel it's already fixed, we can just deal with it as part of the Meta-doctor project? Nov 19 18:41:55 Preemptive: No needs work for sure Nov 19 18:42:01 I just patched binary and put on my device Nov 19 18:42:09 And can confirm it works Nov 19 18:42:27 At least that's my gut feeling Nov 19 18:42:38 OK, project it is. I'll post an update to the existing thread. Thanks for the work on this. Nov 19 18:43:02 So, back to: 5c. Device back up options. Nov 19 18:43:59 Preemptive: Not sure if you have anything in log files about timeservice or ntp Nov 19 18:44:00 ? Nov 19 18:44:37 Er... no... You mean on any of my devices? or other logs? Nov 19 18:45:11 If you want testers, we could set up a little program with instructions? Nov 19 18:46:05 Ah wait I don't have it on my pre3 Nov 19 18:46:09 Must have been TP then Nov 19 18:46:26 I think i meant 'programme'. Nov 19 18:48:26 Preemptive: Yeah should sort that Nov 19 18:49:00 Would you like to have a programme to test your patch and have testers check logs etc? We can try that on the thread. Nov 19 18:49:16 Yeah I guess so Nov 19 18:49:22 I need to test first myself a bit more Nov 19 18:49:37 OK. I'll make a post after the meeting and we'll take it from there. Nov 19 18:52:55 Re: 5c. Some proposed solutions have been made. They may be sufficient to enable a 'Hotsync' style back up to a user's local machine. Probably the best thing to do is to canvas a few more suggestions and test, moving from manual back up to triggered sync of certain files. If we can get all the items that were previously backed up in a form where they can be restored, then that might be enough, but I'll hold back on making this an Nov 19 18:52:56 official project. Nov 19 18:53:20 5d. App stores discussion. Nov 19 18:56:17 There has been no more discussion on this. The obstacles remain: Server space, cost & administration. There has been some work done to index a collection of apps on the web, allowing and app to display a listing and down load IPKs. Nov 19 18:56:27 s/and/an Nov 19 18:56:44 5e. Default apps: Can we patch the system to give us more default options? (e.g. Qupzilla, LuneTube) Nov 19 18:56:57 morning, seems it's not crowded here today.. Nov 19 18:58:02 I'm not aware of anyone offering knowledge of how to 'unlock' the default apps listing so we can use newer apps over the old core/system apps Nov 19 18:58:11 Hi nizovn! Nov 19 18:58:37 nizovn: That should be, Morning! Nov 19 18:59:03 Preemptive: hi :) Nov 19 18:59:11 6. Any other business. Nov 19 18:59:38 I've got a feeling I was going to have something here, but I don't remember... Nov 19 18:59:49 Any one else? Nov 19 19:01:38 Oh, looking at recent posts, there was some activity on George Mari's thread on his TP RAM upgrade. I was going to suggest if there was any point in investigating posssibe H/W upgrades for legacy devices. Nov 19 19:02:08 ..but I'll just leave it there and add it under section 5 for next time. Nov 19 19:03:50 7. Date of next meeting. Nov 19 19:05:25 I originally set the time as 1700 GMT and would prefer that time over 1800. As there only seem to be 3 of us here... is that OK with everyone? Nov 19 19:05:45 I'm also thinking 17th December Nov 19 19:06:03 it's ok with me Nov 19 19:06:56 Great! Anyone else want to conform or reject the 17th December at 1700GMT? Nov 19 19:07:38 ... Nov 19 19:08:16 everyone agree i think :P Nov 19 19:08:52 OK, We'll call that agreed! Thanks to nizovn & Herrie for showing up! See you on the forums and here next month! Nov 19 19:09:23 nizovn: Goodnight! ;-) Nov 19 19:09:40 Herrie: Goodnight! Nov 19 19:09:48 Preemptive: bye! **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Nov 20 03:00:00 2017
